Claim: Trump Has Reassured Wayne LaPierre, Current Head of the NRA, That Universal Background Checks Are Off the Table in Gun Discussions

Weirdly, I saw NeverTrumpers complaining about Trump's lack of dedication to pushing for universal background checks.

Universal Background Check: If I sell a gun to you, we would have to go to a licensed dealer so he can run the background check.

Currently, it's no one's fucking business if I sell you a bicycle or a gun or a car or a bowling ball or or or or ... from my personal property.

If you buy a firearm from a licensed dealer you must, under EVERY circumstance, pass a background check. However, if you buy a firearm from a private individual it depends on the state. Some (like NC) require some sort of purchase permit, some do not. In NC it is only for handguns but not if you have a CCW (which is one of the reasons I got mine).

NICS checks are performed with the FBI only when a firearm is purchased through a federally-licensed firearms dealer (FFL). Any interstate transfer of ownership must be done at an FFL, and any transfer done by an FFL - even off-premises, like at a gun show - must be done on a form 4473 with a NICS check.*

Person-to-person private transfers within a state do not require a NICS check and do not require an FFL to be involved (I guess it depends on the state).

* some states, such as my beloved Mitten Kingdom, will accept a state concealed carry permit in lieu of a NICS check since a more thorough background check than NICS is performed to obtain one.

Posted by: hogmartin at August 20, 2019 08:10 PM (t+qrx)

30 because all the street guns are bought by the user in a legal transaction.

PDJT needs to have Barr order a 100% FEDERAL prosecution of all straw purchases, and aty least investigate all rejected 4473s.

also 100% FEDERAL prosecution of felons with a gun. that's a mandatory 10 years in the federal pen.

Beating strangers in the street ten against one is against the law. In Democrat cities, the police just stand and watch Antifa do this. Unless the victims fight back successfully-- then the police arrest the victims.

Tyranny operates in practice mostly by unequal and capricious enforcement of the law. We have plenty of laws already. They are not equally enforced. The more laws, the more opportunity for selective enforcement of the law.

The little bitches of the Left will use any red flag law to constantly nail conservatives. It'll be organized -- they'll hold meetings snd publish a handbook. The red flag laws are written to their specifications.

88 A mandate that all firearm transfers (including intra-state) go through FFLs amounts to de facto federal firearm registration which greatly closes the gap to the end goal of firearm confiscation.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind having access to NICS prior to a lawful intra-state person-to-person transfer as I certainly wouldn't want to help a hardened criminal. But, that isn't what this is all about.

I wouldn't either, if I knew for a fact that it wouldn't be used to create a registry, but that's not going to happen.

If you buy a firearm from a dealer, on a 4473, and sell it (or it's stolen) and located at a crime scene, the police will ask the dealer about it. I don't know how long they have to keep the bound book record of sales and transfers.

As I understand it, gang guns are often loaned out for a small fee to individual 'bangers for specific drive-bys, pre-meditated murders in alleys etc., rather than paying full price for a gun you're just going to get rid of anyway. Gangstas are frugal, dawg.

When the cops finally catch someone with the pistola tucked into their waistband, it's not uncommon to find out that the same gun has a dozen murders on it once they run the ballistics.

Criminals aren't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. They'd rather pay $75 to rent a gun from another 'banger for 24 hours (and risk getting popped for all the other murders) to do their drive-by than pay $500 to buy a gun that they'll just throw away when it's all over.

162 An element to both the UBC and red flag discussions that cannot be omitted:

- The FBI is already refusing to process background check appeals on regular purchases, and in some cases refuses to even process background checks for NFA transfers at all - meaning you're just blanket rejected. Fixing either requires direct intervention from a US senator or rep.

- Gov employees responsible for reporting, entering, or applying data related to making individuals prohibited persons (i.e., can't buy, own, or handle firearms) have been granted explicit immunity in a growing list of states for anything resulting from failing to do their job, or doing it to people in error.

- Almost every high profile mass shooter from the last 30 years was reported to the authorities prior to their attack.

These people are already fucking up left and right and abusing their authority.

The law prohibited purchase of firearms by persons convicted of domestic assault or abuse, charges that often were the result of misdemeanor pleas during the course of a sloppy divorce and just as often were bogus and entered to end the insanity.

Almost immediately, domestic assault and abuse charges became routine during the course of divorces, particularly if the accused owned firearms or had to use guns in the course of work.

246 Way off topic, but....

Fauxcahontas "apologizing" to a group of Native Americans got me to thinking. If reparations to descendants of slaves are ever approved, at least 1/4 of the Earth's population will apply for a slice of the pie. Every person outside of Western Europe, China, Russia, India, and Australia will claim they're descended from a freed slave.

"Folklore ancestry" as pioneered by Lizzy Warren will be the scam. Every applicant will claim something like: "A slave called Tall Tom, freed from Sweetwater Plantation in Alabama in 1865, stowed away on a ship in 1866, and ended-up in Nigeria. He started a family, and I'm in the eighth generation descended from him. His story has been passed-down these 150-plus year, from father to children."

And the Democrat-run and staffed Reparations Claim Commission will say, "OK! Sounds good! You should receive your first check within 10 days!"

Still happens that way in may-issue states, just with more paperwork. Although the county sheriff can usually be persuaded by a fat contribution to his re-election fund.

I see the title "producer" all over movies and tv shows. Executive producer, producer, associate producer, co-producer ... Movies seem to have 20 "producers", at least. I can't imagine all but one of two of them do anything but put some cash in. I think very few people who get credited as any sort of a "producer" of anything actually do any producing of any sort, whatsoever.

I remember in some movie they joked about giving the secretary an "associate producer" credit in lieu of a raise and then cracked up about how ridiculous an "associate producer" credit was.

I also like how movies gives credits to every semi-human who came into contact with the production ... head janitor, toilet cleaner, main coke supplier ...

337 314> My understanding is there are 3 Thompsons purchased by an individual several years ago as part of an auction. I'm looking at one of those 3. Furthermore, my understanding is that all 3 are SBR (I'm assuming same length.) The difference is in furniture, age, wear, etc. The "providence" is, of course, questionable. But, a 1970's vintage Thompson, for less than 1K, in very good condition, might be worth it.

406 Surprised that so many are unclear about "universal background checks." At present the National Instant Criminal Background Check System applies only to gun purchases from Federal Firearms Licensed dealers. It does not apply to within-state transfers of firearms between private parties. "Universal checks" is thus a code phrase for federal regulation of private firearms transfers between unlicensed individuals. This would require an enforcement mechanism, which would very likely develop into a registration system.
