My Twitter Feed, which has been suspended as of yesterday or the day before! And I am not sure of my transgression(s), but one of the last things I tweeted was calling a divisive racist bitch a "divisive racist bitch." Or maybe it was telling Chris Cuomo that in fact, Fredo is a great nickname for him! Or maybe it was telling a CNN reporter that he was an idiot. Or maybe it was me asking Jessica Yaniv if he knew how fucking insane he was.... But Twitter is as evil as Google, just smaller. So participating may not be a good thing.

I've been thinking about this for a while and going "Back to the future" may be a way to thwart the tech giants and still communicate. What about listservs? We all have email, most have several, so let's use them and then everyone is their own censor.

My original exposure to local politics was as a young teen, my dad would drag us down to the monthly Zoning Board meetings where he would rant and rave and rip the Zoning commissioners a new one. He believed in it , and he was good at it.
The best part was that the Zoning Commissioner he used to give the most hell to was Dennis Deconcini, who went on to become a US Senator.

That's not exactly true. If the slaughterhouse operation creates a legal nuisance - i.e. it interferes with the quite enjoyment of the rural homeowners' property, then a lawsuit could shut it down.

Yup. Had a friend in Denver who was old Denver - she and her siblings make their living managing an enormous collection of properties acquired by her grandfather and father (and she's now in her 80's). She said by far the worst thing they had to deal with was eminent domain.

We're signing a contract today to buy 5 acres in MT. Water rights are a big thing here but strict zoning not so much. We're purchasing in a small planned community. Geared towards equestrian pursuits where we are allowed 5 or 10 animals, no goats/sheep/roosters. Against my better judgement we are purchasing in a development with a HOA. I hate naziland HOA's. Hoping this one is different. Since zoning is questionable we're hoping this keeps the wrecked cars, heaps of trash and homestyle car repair places at bay.

Roy. The developer has already asked Mr. NEC to serve on the HOA board. Since only 10 of 27 lots are sold the owners have most of the say at this point. Hubby said no. Been there, done that. Twice

I know I'm in a minority but I like HOAs.
I like living in a 'hood where people have to keep their lawns looking good, can't park 5 cars in a 2 car driveway and can't own 5 dogs that bark all day long.
What kills me though is people who move into an HOA fully knowing the rules then immediately bitching about having to follow the rules. Kinda like someone who moves next to the airport and then complains about noise.
I like living in a 'hood where people have to keep their lawns looking good, can't park 5 cars in a 2 car driveway and can't own 5 dogs that bark all day long.

Read those by laws VERY CAREFULLY. Make sure you understand what rights as a normal property owner would have that you are signing away.Fences? Pool? Pets? Can you have a truck? Must garage doors always be down? Color of house? etc.

59 We're signing a contract today to buy 5 acres in MT. Water rights are a big thing here but strict zoning not so much. We're purchasing in a small planned community. Geared towards equestrian pursuits where we are allowed 5 or 10 animals, no goats/sheep/roosters. Against my better judgement we are purchasing in a development with a HOA. I hate naziland HOA's. Hoping this one is different. Since zoning is questionable we're hoping this keeps the wrecked cars, heaps of trash and homestyle car repair places at bay.

This is simple. If you don't like the way your town is changing, try to buy the land at a fair price, suck it up and figure it out, or move.
This is why conservatives have conserved nothing and have an abysmal losing record. Community is important. REALLY important. If we had stronger communities (and had our conservative leaders taken any interest whatsoever in preserving small communities and their freedom of association), we wouldn't have, for example, drag queens in libraries. Folks wouldn't put up with it. But when you're just a bunch of random, deracinated, autistic strangers concerned about nothing more than your own personal economics, evil flourishes. Property rights have to be secondary to the rights of people to have the community that they want. Of course, it's about 50 years to late for this anyway, so who cares.

96 59 We're signing a contract today to buy 5 acres in MT. Water rights are a big thing here but strict zoning not so much. We're purchasing in a small planned community. Geared towards equestrian pursuits where we are allowed 5 or 10 animals, no goats/sheep/roosters. Against my better judgement we are purchasing in a development with a HOA. I hate naziland HOA's. Hoping this one is different. Since zoning is questionable we're hoping this keeps the wrecked cars, heaps of trash and homestyle car repair places at bay.

Read those by laws VERY CAREFULLY. Make sure you understand what rights as a normal property owner would have that you are signing away.Fences? Pool? Pets? Can you have a truck? Must garage doors always be down? Color of house? etc.

I did the HOA once. Will not be in a rush to do it again. We had a private road to maintain as well as shared leach field system (each house had a septic tank, but all drained into common leach fields). None of the homeowners wanted to pay into build up cash reserves to maintain these items. Plus there was the snow plowing and mowing. Homeowners weren't supposed to have a truck bigger than a 3/4 ton. Well -except for the builder's daughter and SIL - they could have their 1ton.

If we had stronger communities (and had our conservative leaders taken any interest whatsoever in preserving small communities and their freedom of association), we wouldn't have, for example, drag queens in libraries. Folks wouldn't put up with it. But when you're just a bunch of random, deracinated, autistic strangers concerned about nothing more than your own personal economics, evil flourishes. Sounds like our broken country.

Our Founders were absolute correct to put limits on government in order to prevent exactly what's happening today in DC. They never intended for politics to become a full-time job because they were students of human nature and psychology as much as the law and legal matters.
Progressives recognize no limits. That alone should make people wary of them.

The right to bear arms should not be infringed. That means that you should not decorate all around the law, and I paraphrase one of the founders "so as to deprive people the practical use of it".
We don't just have a right to bear arms. We have a guarantee that it should not be infringed.
A reasonable tax could only be argued to deprive poor people of gun ownership. But a considerable tax is arguably exactly the infringement that the founders wrote about.

As far as gun legislation goes, it's a good thing congress is on vacation. By the time they get back the emotional rush will be depleted. I think Trump will eventually reject any red-flag law and just go with enhanced background checks.
It might be to the point where any legislation will be tabled until after the election.

My small town out here in the burbs have had a decades long fight about turning land on a major highway corridor into commercially zoned land. Many residents want to keep the small town atmosphere despite the loss in taxes.
It is an internal decision for town residents, as is Chester NY. it is their absolute right to determine the makeup of their town.
And when laws are changed after the fact it indicates that something else is going on.

As someone who has been on both sides of a zoning fight, zoning per se is not the problem. It is an unrealistic expectation that one can do whatever one wants with property as it was never the case where our land laws or common law originated in England.
In the U.S. zoning laws replaced widespread ad hoc litigation using various common law approaches to damages with the ironic acceptance at the time by developers for predictability purposes and use of things like public nuisance laws to criminally and civilly charge folks. Laissez faire type property treatment in the U.S. came about primarily from the frontier mentality of endless abundance of land. As the frontier vanished and the U.S. became more densely settled, there was significant conflict in the courts over development. Developers make money by buying land cheap and then "improving it" to sell it for a higher price. Then, they are gone.
Existing residents then may have issues like flooding, sediment deposits, decreased water pressure/sewage capacity, crowded schools and roads, and destruction of sightlines, noise and lighting , pollution, and so forth. And many of those factors can actually decrease the value of one's own home. The new purchasers of the property may be making a gain at the expense of existing residents.
Thus, zoning laws proliferated especially after the Supreme Court gave its blessings in the 1920's and some states went as far as constitutional amendments to state constitutions giving localities and the state power to zone property for use. The Orthodox are a diverse group. Some are fine; some are totally backward, clannish assholes. It just depends who you're interacting with.
I don't think anything should be done to infringe their rights (unless they are breaking the law of course). I'm also reluctant to wade into this, because the holier-than-thou attitude of Westernized Jews toward the Ashkenazi Orthodox has been a long-standing problem in Jewish communities.
But to deny that some of them maintain a different holier-than-thou attitude toward their fully assimilated Jewish and Christian neighbors simply isn't true. Some of them can be extremely hostile. Even in Israel.

Hasidim isn't strange. It's a destructive criminal cult that has bilked the taxpayers of many upstate communities, robbed the public till and subverted both zoning and housing laws. They have a script, the enter a community, rob it and destroy it. There practices are demonstrably unhealthy for both the community and it's residents. The musket was useful in a military setting because it was fast to reload. No rifling, etc. The main issue was lack of range and accuracy, hence the tactics used (massed volleys, grouped fires, etc).
If you showed up to muster with a rifle, you'd be placed with others in a more mobile unit, so for a set piece battle you may concentrate on cavalry (rifles had a 200 yard range or more with skill) or work to flank the enemy and try to take out some officers. The rifle was also greatly prized for guerilla operations.
Two different tools.
That said, muskets were cheaper and for a lot of families they were the primary arm owing to cost and such.

The problem was not that Americans did not own firearms-levels of gun ownership in America were much higher than in England-but that most Americans did not want military-style weapons. Such guns were relatively heavy, and not especially suited to shooting the critters that ate their crops or to hunting birds. Neither was the bayonet, a standard fixture necessary for military muskets, much use for farmers who wanted to have turkey for dinner...

My hometown had a large population of Amish type people that called themselves Huldemans. They certainly weren't the majority but they held enough economic sway that the town did much of what they wished.
Example: While I was growing up in that town, there were never any dances within the town limits. We never had proms, we had banquets.

We should start off with a forceful "No." No you will not let a highly publicized shooting, as unfortunate as that is, fuel a knee-jerk reaction to punish innocent people by taking away their Constitutional right to self-defense. We already have thousands of laws on the books to prevent guns from falling into the wrong person's hands, but no law is perfect and there are always people who will not abide by them.
We're all saddened by these shootings, but there's a lot of evil that we have to suffer every day. Progressive demagoguery will not stop it.
Then we need to push back against the Progs whose fondest wish is to disarm us.

No hard and fast law, but Due Process does play a part. A D/P challenge should force an enacting body to justify the change; i.e., show a substantial and legitimate state interest. If they can't, the judicial arm of checks-and-balances, does have (potentially, anyway) the power to strike down an arbitrary re-zoning.

No hard and fast law, but Due Process does play a part. A D/P challenge should force an enacting body to justify the change; i.e., show a substantial and legitimate state interest. If they can't, the judicial arm of checks-and-balances, does have (potentially, anyway) the power to strike down an arbitrary re-zoning.

The article does not mention it, but in some locales (including a town near me), the Hasidim declare their homes to be places of worship. This exempts them from property taxes. Naturally, the people who do pay property taxes resent this.
It is also common for local Hasidim to get married in a religious ceremony that is not recognized by the state. This allows the wives to claim government benefits as single moms.

I am reading this not as anti-Semitism, but simply as another instance of conflict between groups who live communally vs those who live as individuals or self-contained families. We have the same sort of tensions here in Alberta between Hutterites, and everybody else, for example.

I'd much rather live among the Hasidim, than among the violent anarchic black thugs I live with now. That said, "restriction of property rights limits economic growth" is a DUMB reason to FORCE people to integrate, and violates our freedom of association.
People should be able to found communities in which they can restrict ownership to people they love and trust, without the Federal Govt coming in with bayonets to force them to accept outsiders they don't want. We were able to do that until the 1940s, when SCOTUS removed that right.
Now we joyfully celebrate the "Mississippi Burning" Fed Govt coming in and FORCING us to erect housing for people we hate.

My Outlook constantly puts the PJ Media newsletter into the 'Junk Box'. I un-spam it every day and next day (or the day after) it's back in the 'Junk'.

The news stories I've found say that it's a burden on the town to bus 30,000 kids to private schools when they only have 6,000 kids in public schools, but I don't understand the whole thing.

In NYS, transportation attaches to the student, whichever school he goes to. My public high school would have been a 10 or 15 minute walk from our house, vs the hour (in Long Island/NYC traffic) to the high school I actually attended. My first three years, the school district provided a bus. When the number of students going to schools in the same area fell below a bus worth, they brought a ticket on the Long Island, and bus fare from Jamaica Station (Change at Jamaica!) to school.
