OK, I got a lot of good feedback about last Friday's dump ONT, so I'm going to do another one. This one, however, has a theme!
There's a popular meme that's been going around Twitter and Facebook for a while now, the premise is the back and forth between God and the angels (and sometimes Adam) as he's creating the world. Like this:

Cape Cod sure is a pretty place to visit, but dear LAWD, the leftism there is beyond measure.
And *shhhh*.... though the quality of the seafood in New England is top notch in every respect... the chefs, seasonings, spices and recipes are across the board, better, here.
Anywhere on the Gulf Coast, actually.
Whole lot of expertly prepared, pretty bland seafood dishes up there in the Frozen North.
How they can get Clam Chowdah so right, and damn near everything else so wrong, is amazing.

Take the original and add a scene in which a young Donald Trump makes his first yuge international deal by convincing a Politburo member that it'd be all-around great if the Big Red Machine threw the game against USA. Maybe, Trump says, if the USA wins then Americans will feel good about their country and re-elect Carter, which is good for the Soves. The Soviet official agrees and gives the order to the hockey coach.
People here will think it's a documentary and the game will make sense in that Team USA, representing a nation that sucks, couldn't possibly beat the USSR in a fair matchup. And the Russians have been interfering with U.S. elections since at least 1980. And Trump was colluding with them!!!
That would sell.

Her campaign people were implying Trump was working with Russia via Manafort during the Democrat convention in late July/early August, IIRC. In a weird way, I'm grateful for SpyGate. A great economy and strength abroad won't be enough to ensure Trump's reelection. He also needs to take down the criminal Democrats. A thorough exposure of their crimes and coverups will be needed to discredit them and make a few people see that they've been lied to for years, their gods are clay, and their "enemies" (us) were right all along.

Same here -- and I'm an IL resident who actually had a very very minor role in Blago's impeachment process (doing research for a state agency director who testified at the impeachment hearings). Yes, Blago was a sleazebag who should never have been governor, but 14 years in prison (not 1
for what he did seems kinda excessive. Plus, nothing he did ever killed anyone, which is more than can be said for his immediate predecessor, George Ryan* -- and Blago's already done more time in the clink than him (7 years).
*Ryan, a Republican (corruption in IL is truly bipartisan) went to prison for having sold commercial drivers' licenses to unqualified drivers in the early 90s when he was IL Secretary of State (before he was governor). One of those drivers was involved in an accident that killed 6 kids from one family.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, under severe pressure from Democrats and a growing number of Republicans, suggested Thursday that the Senate could look at a ban on assault weapons and that there's Senate support for a move to expand background checks to nearly all gun sales.
Speaking on WHAS 840 in Louisville, the Kentucky Republican said President Donald Trump called him Thursday morning and is "anxious to get an outcome and so am I."
He said the two talked about various proposals that will be "front and center" in Senate discussions, including so-called red flag warning legislation that would keep guns from people deemed a threat by their friends and family members, as well as expanding background checks.
"There's a lot of support for that," McConnell said, referring to legislation championed by Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pennsylvania, and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, who are hoping to revive legislation that would extend background checks for nearly all gun sales. A similar effort died in the Senate in 2013.
"The urgency of this is not lost on any of us," McConnell said.
But he noted the bar for legislation includes passing the House, garnering 60 votes in the Senate and a presidential signature.
He did not rule out looking at a ban on assault weapons, but noted there is a dispute over whether the 1994 ban that expired in 2004 had showed results.
"It's certainly one of the front and center issues," he said. "But what we can't do is fail to pass something. What I want to see here is an outcome, not a bunch of partisan back and forths, shots across the bow."...

Heh! I remember doing that as a kid. Most balls had the elastic winding. Some had a hard rubber core, and some of those had a steel ball in the center of the core, and some even had liquid. No telling what they use now.

Based on my experience, not hard enough.
I had a goldfish -- it was really my girlfriend's at the time, but I digress -- she went out of town for a weekend told me to watch it. I didn't. I gave it food every day but I didn't watch it. Anyway, she got back late Sunday night, had to go through police barricades, real hassle, she said "What's going on?" Her tone was accusatory, like everything was my fault. Little did I know at the time.
We ended up moving in together and I still never really looked at the fish. Meanwhile, trouble started brewing in our town, and mass graves were being uncovered in the Balkan Peninsula. Next thing I know, we're bombing Belgrade and sending troops into Kosovo.
After a few years the goldfish died and things coincidentally settled down. Needless to say, I learned my lesson.

The ones with the liquid were dangerous from what I remember. It was some kind of acid. I remember some PSA type article in the paper years ago about kids getting fucked up from cutting open golf balls and getting burned by the acid core. I was really young when my mom showed me the article. Of course they showed a kid's melted hand.

See which ones fit your itinerary and tastes, and plan accordingly.
Other tourist highlights? I've never been there, but mine would be The Arizona, the Punch Bowl and other historic Pearl Harbor monuments and museums.

Nice boat. My kind of boat. Not set up for "sleeps many", but surely set up to make ocean crossings.
No mention of a bow-thruster. Bet it has one. In which case, it'd be a peach around the docks.
Also, no mention of keel design. Shows the relative inexperience of our young hosts. I won't go into detail, but the keel and rudder plan matters more than just a little.
All in all, a very professionally executed, well made boat.
So much so that I'll send an email and investigate the bid(s)/sales status thus far.

Novels are short stories with lots of padding.
Bierce's short stories, particularly his Civil War ones, are great. Maybe that has to do with him serving in the Union Army and being wounded in battle giving him a hard-boiled, realistic perspective in his writing. But then I'm a Bierce fan. His 'The Devil's Dictionary' is also, um, novel in that the entries/definitions were either terse sentences or poems, with some of those poems being very good in their own right.
One entry that still rings true is this:

Which is exactly what you want in Blue Water. We're not talking about lightweight racing boats here.
That "narrow" stern is what's called a "Canoe Stern". The better to lose your guns from, of course.
Advantage? In heavy "following seas", the stern breaks the wave pretty much the same as the bow. So, the boat rides up over the sea, as opposed to a large wave impacting and "breaking" against a square stern.
This is called "pooping". You don't want your boat to be pooped. You might want to poop FROM the Poop Deck, but again, you don't want your boat to be pooped.
Some other details I'd wanna know. How are the chainplates affixed? And where? Specs on the standing rigging? Wire or Rod Rigging?
I see a frame for a Bimini and Dodger. Is the Sunbrella for those on board, or yet to be made?
And after that, minor nits, at best.
Yeah, all the electronics are no longer current. Sell 'em at the flea market, and replace with new. ALL of it, including the VHF.
Biggest expense yet to incur? No sight of a dinghy or davits. Or engine for the dink.
That's not gonna be a cheap add to the boat, but an absolutely necessary one, to be sure.

All those opening cabinets are not "hiding spots" from Customs or etc.
Hiding spots are recesses in the core structures which do not have "finger hole" access with internal latch systems. Great for heavy seas, lousy for Customs.
For Customs, you want to think along the lines of false fuel tanks, extra spaces behind critical engine components, and etc.
I won't go into detail. Trade secrets, you understand.
Suffice to say that guns are VERY hard to hide on a boat. Customs and such has seen it all. And you/me/they haven' thought of it all much beyond that.

Depends on your security settings on the browser. Mine at home are set one way and retain the info, while the one I use at another location has private browsing enabled, so I have to set it back up whenever I start the browser up.
