Rush Limbaugh was having a lot of fun with this "news" report, featuring government-paid media badgering a husband about what he will do to appease his Trump-deranged wife, and not giving any effs about what his Trump-deranged wife might do to accommodate him.
His wife cries like a lunatic, and the husband Jimmy just shrugs and says, "Well, I guess she has to roll and flow with her emotions," and otherwise doesn't really care that is wife is a shaking-sobbing mental case. I'll give my local PBS outlet this, they frequently show classic movies uninterrupted, both from the '30s-'40s-'50s, and also from '60s to the early '90s. It's hard to wrap my mind around the idea that Ghostbusters (1984) is now considered a "vintage" movie . . . but it's 35, older than Dracula (1931) was when I first saw it in 1963!

One of my buddies (who voted for Trump) is dating an overall lovely woman who turns in to a shrieking angry bitch when someone even gets close to saying something political. She freaked out of a mutual friend when we were all out having a good time because he grumbled that the gas tax was too high in MA.
We all got subjected to a 30 minute lecture about roads and bridges.
It must be miserable to walk around on high alert like that all the time ready to be triggered and angry at acquaintances over minor things like that

I'm approaching the end of my viewing days vis-a-vis the Progressive (née Public) Broadcasting System's "PBS NewsHour" program.
SInce Ms. Judy (Judy, Judy) Woodruff has taken over the Captain's Chair it has steadily followed the Progressive line down to mostly exasperation.
Major contributions come from her five-female politics cabal and the Friday "Brooks and Shields" segment. Mr. Brooks seems to be having more and more problems with his facial muscles as he spouts the required lies of the week. Mr. Shields has been Never-Trump obsessed since about November 2016.
The second level contributors all seem to be aware of only the Progressive side of any other issue.
A once worthwhile program now circling my media drain.

If they're not super happy now, it'll go downhill from there. Newborns inevitably put a strain on any relationship; sleepless nights, added expenses, fewer fun times going out, a divergence in focus, with mom's now on the baby (and possibly resenting it), dad's on paying for mom and the baby (and possibly resenting it also), etc.
If they're "meh" now, they'll be at daggers drawn then.
You can't spend your whole life in bed (although it's fun to try). Eventually it comes down to companionship, and that means talking about all kinds of things. Which apparently is a problem with these two. Every election night is going to be a battle royale.

It's not only that, but at least where I live (New England), there are a decent number of conservatives. We just know not to bring up politics or talk politics in public and to mostly just nod and go along with whatever asinine shit leftist (mostly women) are saying.
I would bet 50-75% of people in my friend / acquaintance social circles have no inkling that I voted for Trump and would be horrified if they learned I did, and would probably try to ostracize me.

Anyway, he's conservative and lives in Atlanta. He was making Panopticon during the election, and the day after Hillary lost, his main actor took control of the room and said that he was sure that everyone was just feeling awful.
Jeff was pretty pissed, but kept quiet because he couldn't lose his leading man.

If you had done this exact same video 20-30 years ago, the point of the video would have been exactly different. Jimmy would be seen as sympathetic automatically while his gibbering, mewling wife would have been seen as a horrible weight on his life, and the thrust would have been not to let politics invade your personal space to the point that it makes you incapacitated.
The fact that PBS did this and assumes that all viewers will react to the WIFE sympathetically is kind of telling.

Funny, isn't it? My circle, and even extended circle, of friends that all went to school together and hung out together, never discussed politics. We didn't care. It was a way-off thing that was low on our priority lists. We just wanted to be young and have a good time being together. My boyfriend of many years...we never once talked politics. The last couple of generations are proving so unbelievably mentally ill with politics. Everything politics. 24/7/365 politics that is really the cornerstone of their existence. Not really, not out in the real world that isn't attached to a computer. Go look at the ratings for those shows, check how many are on Twitter, who follow American politicians, and are American citizens.
The number is surprisingly small. They're loud, they're screamy, they're great at getting attention, but they aren't many in number. It is, I think, a mistake to conflate your interest in a subject to the public at large, or to conflate your level of interest to anyone but yourself.

That happened to me as well. I worked in an industry that is very liberal for a company based in a suuuuper liberal area. And one day at dinner with some colleagues it was a huge reveal that all 4 of us were in the closed conservatives. And then we were like, shit if the 4 of us are this way, maybe there's others too. My now wife was middlingish, soft left when we first met, but now is totally on board with my politics. Why? Because my track record of predictions of how things will work out has been very good indeed, convincing her that there must be some merit in my perspective.
When we first met, I scoffed at the notion that AIDS was going to spread like wildfire through the normal population. "Homosexual propaganda to hijack the public health agenda." At the same time homosexuals were pushing for tolerance; they weren't interested in marriage. "After they get tolerance they'll go after marriage next."
More recently, I predicted that Trump was a good bet to win the nomination, and if he did, he might also very well win the general election. My entire family guffawed at this notion.

That ship sailed ages ago. I suspect a lot of people didn't notice it because their particular workplace was a bit insulated, and/or they paid zero attention to their kids' schools... or didn't have kids.
You cannot escape politics, and we're rolling along towards critical mass for The Great Shut Up. And it's accelerating, with the left stepping up attacks on the rest of us and eating their own.
Several acquaintances of the casual lefty-ish persuasion have gotten their shit wrecked in the last 2-3 years. Hounded out of groups by snowflakes for perceived insufficient woke-ness, reported for nonsensical offenses, being singled out in events they didn't realize were re-skinned struggle sessions. The consequences of these events for them were a big deal; some have learned their lesson, some have not.
For me, personally - virtually everyone who knew me before a certain time period and therefore gets the general drift of my politics and leans left is out of my life, almost always from their end. Zero exceptions. The only recent acquaintances left who lean left have no idea, and it will likely stay that way.

I don't know what it is but other than that one time they're very pleasant people. They knew my background because I worked for a GOP firm once I started dating their daughter. It was out there from the get go.
I think it's been customary since 80's cable for them to come home flip on CNN and watch the "news." Their pro-life, christian democrats and I keep telling them "you're not going to have a party after 2020, just remember that."
The funny thing is my wife is the least political person in the world. Hates the stuff, but she has no idea how law and order, nat sec conservative she is. I've told her that if we were on a reality show people would brand her all sorts of -ists.
