Company Proposes, Exhibits Standing-Room Only Airplane "Seating"

Except it's not seating, it's standing, with a little bit of leaning, plus a bicycle-like saddle delivering pressure right where you want it, in your groin.

That should make turbulent air especially fun.

You'd get a discount, I guess.

Maybe this would be plausible for a shuttle-type plane, a one-hour or 1:20 flight.

Maybe.

Meanwhile, Huntington Park, California deploys "HP Robocop," a "crime-fighting robot," though it seems to be more of a remotely-piloted drone that travels on the ground (slowly) rather than flying.

The robot, dubbed "HP Robocop," is described as an "autonomous data machine" and is expected to be officially unveiled by the Huntington Park police department on Tuesday.

Equipped with 360-degree video cameras, Huntington Park police will deploy "HP RoboCop" to monitor and surveil areas such as parks and city buildings. The robot will then be able to relay video footage from its cameras to police headquarters in order to facilitate fast and safe responses from police officers.

"HP RoboCop" will also be able to roll down sidewalks and recite phrases to members of the public, such as "excuse me" and "good day to you."

Take this back. This is not the future I ordered. No, I don't know who ordered this. No one ordered it, I would expect.

I would like you to make a whole new future, the one I specifically ordered. I need a total re-do.

Get to the airport.

Add time for sitting on the runway waiting to take off past the scheduled departure.
1:20 flight.
Taxiing after landing.
Add more time to unload, get out of airport, find shuttle.

Versus getting in the car and driving that > 290 mile distance in four or so hours without the smelly fat guy hijacking your armrest and the baby behind you mewling non stop and getting clobbered by the flight crew?

Delta and USAir had a Boston-NYC-DC shuttle. Service every hour for each, so between the two of them every 30 minutes. It was like a bus route, just show up, buy a ticket, on the plane within 30 minutes. I'd be in a cab and based on what time it was, I'd tell the driver to either go to the Delta terminal or USAir terminal to catch the next flight.

I flew that route at least 100 times between NYC and both DC/Boston.

And companies that get it right - that "have a purpose, in an authentic way" - are the festival's big winners, bringing home Lions and boosting the bottom line. What about the 2+ hour trip to the departure airport takeoff, and the 2+ hour trip from the arrival airport landing to your real destination?

Driving, I'd stop, stretch my legs, see the sights, maybe plan intermediate stops of interest. No tickets, schedules, checkpoints, long labyrinthine airport hikes, nor having to sit with people you probably won't like.

Apparently no airline has been brave enough to try them yet; even they seem to sense that there are limits to what customers will put up with.

I bet this could work in very limited instances, though. The example I've always heard tossed about is to use it for short flights to party destinations aimed mostly at college kids on a budget.

Well yeah if your final destination is 40 miles from the airport, it's not really an apples to apples comparison.

I travel so much I have it down to a science. I never check bags, take Uber/taxis vs renting cars or airport parking and show up as the flight starts boarding. TSA pre-check makes security a non-issue time wise, best $100 you'll ever spend. Flying can be very efficient if you plan it well.

I can typically be door to door anywhere on the west coast in under 4 hours.

There are several directors out there who should be demoted. JJ Abrams for example: cinematographer, maybe second unit. Just because you had one success doesn't mean you know how to do the big job well. Abrams is great at making things look amazing, let him do that job.

He also was one of the more conservative predictions for 2016. His final model had a 70% chance of Hillary winning, and IIRC he even pointed out that Trump had a better shot than people were giving him, and that if Trump did well in the Upper Midwest he had a good chance to win.

Nate Silver's schtick has always been to give a range of possibilities and talk about the odds of each.

455 All this buildup against Iran looks ominous.

Why doesn't Trump just call the Iranian representatives, John Kerry and Valarie Jarrett, and start immediate negotiations?
========
the deep state is trying to start a fight hoping that they can use the hostilities as cover to kill the primary witnesses against them - ? mullahs;IRG generals;Iranian ex pats - before Trump cuts a deal with them to testify against the deep state or

Maybe Iran is just that dumb. I mean, wow, look at how dumb Iraq was supposed to have been.

459 How long before a bunch of teenagers ambush robocop? Because I know that is what my buddies and I would do, with our Louisville Sluggers from little league, would be thinking....back in the day. Good times...good times.

=========================

Pre WWII, the USA hit Japan with an oil embargo and other measures due to Japan's bad behavior.. And then...

I hear pundits saying the USA is wrecking Irna's economy -- do we not expect some pushback? Losing a drone vs. a wrecked economy? Not bad.

461 156 My Stop n Shop has a robot. It runs around looking for spills and announcing "cleanup in aisle 5".

A good robot would to the cleanup instead of just yelling for humans to do. It's really just a nag-bot.

Almost positive this is cover to get high-resolution video of customers' faces for "loss prevention".

470 I suppose they will cut holes so our heads can fit into the overhead compartments. Maybe they'll provide a screen in there so we can enjoy some in-flight entertainment.
