Leil Leibovitz: How Virtuous Are the NeverTrump Virtue-Signalers, Really?

Facts not in evidence.

This is a flamethrower of an article. Highly recommended.

Now that [the Russia Hoax that the NeverTrumpers pushed so hard] has been thoroughly investigated and discredited, it seems fair to ask: Is championing a loony and deeply corrosive conspiracy theory proof of anyone’s superior virtue? The fact that these accusations were false implies that the Never Trumpers who made them early and often were among the political pyromaniacs, and are therefore deserving of the very obloquy that they heaped on Trump [for allegedly poisoning public discourse]. And what about people like Carter Page, a blameless ex-Navy officer who was defamed as an agent of a shadowy, ever-expanding conspiracy headquartered in Moscow?

Conspiracy-mongering doesn’t seem like much of a public virtue. Certainly, the Never Trumpers should have known better than to join in the massive publicity campaign around a "dossier" supposedly compiled by a former British intelligence officer rehashing third-hand hearsay and paid for by Hillary Clinton’s campaign. You can still find many faults with Donald Trump’s behavior in and out of office, including some cardinal enough perhaps to merit impeachment, without buying in to some moronic ghost story about an orange-hued traitor who seized the highest office in the land with the help of Vladimir Putin’s social media goons. All that should go without saying, especially for people who ostensibly devote their lives to elevating and enriching the tone of our public discourse.

It is therefore particularly strange to find that David French lent his considerable conservative credibility to the Russiagate lunacy....

It is true that French took care to sound unfailingly fair, a lone voice for reason in a political reality inflamed by lunatics left and right. The thing he was being reasonable about, however, was an FBI investigation that emerged out of a blatant politically motivated forgery. Now, it’s perfectly plausible that French was carrying on his arguments in good faith, even when overwhelming evidence to the contrary was always there for a slightly more curious or skeptical journalist to discover. What's disturbing, from the public virtue standpoint, is that French has yet to admit his own failings, which are compounded by his less-than-courageous misrepresentations of what he actually wrote: In his reply to Ahmari, he strongly denied he had promoted the collusion story, a point of view that’s difficult to defend when your byline appears on stories like "There Is Now Evidence That Senior Trump Officials Attempted to Collude with Russia."

French and the other self-appointed guardians of civility, then, should do us all a favor and drop the civic virtue act.

Like I said, read it in full.

The excellent Julie Kelly, Scourge of Cruise Ship Swabbies, also questions David French's recent claims that he was never a propagator of the Hillary-Clinton information operation.

French claimed that he did not promote the Russian election collusion hoax, as Ahmari stated in his piece. That is patently and provably false.

Time and again, French legitimized the FBI's investigation into the Trump campaign for alleged collusion with the Kremlin, frequently cobbling together a disparate array of "contacts" and meetings as evidence to justify the probe. He downplayed the political origins of the Steele dossier. He repeatedly and willfully omits key details about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting, overlooking the fact that the meeting with Don Jr. included Russian lobbyists who were working with Fusion GPS chief Glenn Simpson on behalf of a Russian tycoon at the time.

In March 2017, French detailed all the reasons Americans should be suspicious about collusion and even suggested that "we can never really know" whether the Russians helped elect Trump. French ridiculed the "Conspiracy Theory Right" for believing the collusion scheme was based on false premises manufactured by partisan bureaucrats in the Obama Administration to sabotage Trump. "Who needs [Russia Today] when you have got Sean Hannity?" French joked to MSNBC’s Chuck Todd in May 2018.

French outrageously demanded that Representative Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the then-chairman of the House Intelligence Committee who was exposing the real scandal, resign his post. "If Nunes steps down as chairman, he can quickly transition from part of the problem to part of the solution," he wrote as Democrats seeded a bogus ethics charge against Nunes.

While he criticized the Nunes memo for failing to make the case (it did) on how the FBI misled the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, French defended a counter memo--now completely discredited--authored by Nunes' nemesis, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) To date, French has not written or tweeted one critical word about Schiff, despite his egregious lies to the American public and to Congress about proof of Russian collusion.

For more than two years, French aided the Left in promoting the now disproven election collusion hoax in order to damage Donald Trump; to say otherwise is simply untrue.

Another read-the-whole-thing recommendation on that.

The NeverTrumpers have a certain NPC script wherein they resort to incoherent spluttering when confronted with their own eager volunteerism in Hillary Clinton's/Sydney Blumenthal's owned-and-operated disinformation.

This idiot exemplifies that NPC script:

A friend sums up the NeverTrumper position on their past support of the Russiagate Conspiracy Theory: We never once endorsed the Russiagate Conspiracy Theory, and oh, by the way, our endorsement of the Russiagate Conspiracy Theory was just and proper and will be vindicated by future historians.

They all do this. Jonah Goldberg and David French repeatedly deny their own activities on behalf of Sydney Blumenthal's conspiracy-mongering, but each and every time a leftist blows false life into the Conspiracy Theory corpse again, they're both on board for a Second Look at the Conspiracy Theory.

And then right back to denying they were ever believers in the conspiracy theory in the first place.

They're good people, though. Very virtuous. Very honest.

Since there is no constitutional definition for "high crimes and misdemeanors", it's really up to the charging authority (the House) to define it.

The process is purely political, and the House needs to find a reason that they can pass of politically so that the Senate will convict.

Dershowitz was right when he said that SCOTUS could probably reverse it, but if the political will exists to impeach and convict, SCOTUS won't go against it unless it's populated by people who don't give a shit about preserving SCOTUS' importance to the American government in practical reality. The people would turn on it en masse if they reverse a popular impeachment and conviction.

We can forsake a commitment to liberty and launch the political version of the Battle of Verdun, seeking the ruin of our foes, or we can recommit to our shared citizenship and preserve a space for all American voices, even as we compete against those voices in politics and the marketplace of ideas."

Apparently French won't see that the other side has decided "No free speech for you!!" until he and his cuck pals are kicked off all social media/internet and run out of DC. Maybe even then he'll council civility while the Antifa mob chants outside his home and lights in on fire. . .

Bingo. Since it is a political body doing what is essentially a political act, and one that is checked by having another political body having to agree by a super-majority, then the political act must be overwhelmingly popular in order to be done. I'm sorry, but where does the constitution define what is a high crime or a misdemeanor?

It's all about political will. 100%.

If the political will exists to impeach a president because they have bad hair, then its enough to convince a majority of the House and a supermajority of the Senate to go through with it.

If that happens, SCOTUS risks becoming public enemy #1 if they true to reverse it.

Impeachment is a political process with a lawful facade.

The only ones giving the NeverTrumpers a stage are the left wing media and the particular zines they work for (for now) or were just created to show case them like The CuckShed (The Bulwark) for Kristol et al.

These will either die a quick death when the donations stop (around about when Trump is reelected) or (in the case of the zines they work for and have history) they decide to embrace the Orange Man before he focuses on them once he gets reelected.

Thus sayeth Wiki:

Political commentator Bill Kristol...named French as his choice to run for US President as an independent conservative candidate to defeat presumptive Republican nominee Trump on May 31. On June 5, French announced that he had considered running, but ultimately decided not to.

184 Now that [the Russia Hoax that the NeverTrumpers pushed so hard] has been thoroughly investigated and discredited, it seems fair to ask: Is championing a loony and deeply corrosive conspiracy theory proof of anyone's superior virtue?

This is not the issue. It isn't a matter of the America-hating Vichy Republicans just being loony. They actively helped in a coup attempt.

The fact that these accusations were false implies that the Never Trumpers who made them early and often were among the political pyromaniacs, and are therefore deserving of the very obloquy that they heaped on Trump [for allegedly poisoning public discourse].

They were part of the coup attempt - carried out in conspiracy with various foreigners looking to cut America down to size. They should all suffer the just punishment for treason (yes, it is treason for the Americans who gave aid and comfort to foreigners looking to destroy America) and the foreigners should just be taken out by poisoned umbrella tips, rabid packs of chi-hua-huas and various other spycrafty ways of ending the existence of foreigners.

==========

Of course, the reality is that there isn't the political will sufficient to support impeachment, much less conviction.

Impeachment ain't going anywhere, and I predict that it will be as successful in removing presidents for the next 230 years of the Republic as it was in the first 230 years.

222 >>And you may have lurched onto something deeper here. The globalists hate him because he is American first and refuses, with aplomb, to be one of the "Hate-America-firsters." That sentiment has been so deeply woven into the urban-chic-academic crowd they don't even know why they react as they do.

Also: Trump says things no one says. He uses pre-Lefty euphemism language to discuss issues, such as "illegal alien."

He also says mean things about, and to, people DC/NYC/Hollywood/universities have deemed untouchable. He bluntly criticizes Hillary, something that was just not done (see what happened to Gingrich who dared to do this). He specifies all the criminals and grifters who are invading us from the South, he calls dumb politician dumb, etc. He does not candycoat it or do it slyly.

230 French and Goldberg ate up and amplified the Collusion Hoax at every possible opportunity. Their only possible defense is that they're gullible chumps ... which is plausible.

The actual defense they're going with is the weaselly, "I was always very careful to say 'if true' before I went right along acting exactly like some nonsense easily disprovable allegation was already proven true."

Pretty shameless for men of character such as they tell themselves (and us) they are.

another poster alluded to an important issue when he mentioned the right to bear arms - I believe you're correct, Impeachment is a nakedly political process with no actual rules.

BUT when there are no rules for one side, there are no rules for the other. The answer to a purely political impeachment movement that goes against the popular will is, quite literally and seriously, for 10,000 supporters of the President, all armed with rifles, shotguns, and other weapons, to show up on Capitol Hill on the day a vote is scheduled and to take over the House and Senate Chambers. No rules, remember? And the President is the one who controls the Army, he won't get the army involved, Congress would be on its own. Good luck with that, guys.

Those people who want to go ahead with "No Rules!" should stop and think for a bit about what No Rules really means.

Our problem is that the only Arbiter of what the Bill of Rights means, is the Federal Government.

And since, as we were famously told, the Constitution is not a suicide pact, even plain language can be ignored by the Federal Government if it wants more power.

Things such as, InterSTATE (between States) commerce somehow becomes a Farmer growing chicken feed for his own damn chickens.

Or, shall not be infringed somehow becomes having to have Government approval to buy guns, and soon (as in Calif) ammunition.

We need a process to reign in the power of the Fed Government.

This is the fundamental problem in our society, and people like French are meant to be at least one of the guardians of that well-reasoned approach for the truth.

Truth, or in Latin, veritas, which is inscribed on about 90% of the college mottos in our country because it is the basis of knowledge- a search for the truth.

If only for a total abdication of that responsibility they should be embarrassed. But they are not, because they are too prideful and personally vested in a particular, bigoted, sectarian and therefore, fraudulent outcome.

It's really time to get rid of these recreants.

This is why the Clinton team beat the drum that the impeachment was about sex, because lots of people were like, umm, no, that's not a high crime.

The CBC tried the same bullshit here too that didn't pan out at all so it turned into "Canadian troops handed Afghan prisoners over to the Afghan authorities who 'might' have 'tortured' (i.e. roughed up) them so our guys are war criminals." Fuck that.

Yes, and that was a good point to bring up! It's worth noting that back in England insulting the Parliament WAS a crime, and Parliament had simply carried on an old favorite law of the English and French Kings known as "Lese Majeste", which made it a crime for any commoner to criticize the Sovereign in public - truth or falsehood had nothing at all to do with it.

You can still see progressives and their allies trying to invoke "Lese Majeste" whenever anyone lodges any criticism of Obama or anyone else who they're currently worshiping. That's another "crime" in their eyes that Trump commits constantly.

Democrats aren't serious about impeachment anyway.

If they were there would be some kind of special committee tasked with drafting impeachment articles meeting officially and daily right now.

Instead we just have Nadler and a few back benchers talking shit while not actually doing anything.

It's a show for the rubes. They'll repeal and replace Trump just as soon as they get five more dollars. Can you chip in and help?

Well, no.

There are not actually instances of obstruction of justice outlined in the Mueller report. Not even the made up Weissman kind.

They simply aren't there.

Raskin was part of the reading of the Mueller report on the floor of the House. He knows. He doesn't care.

Even if there were rules for impeachment and evidence and all of that, they don't give two shits about them.

Define their base. I'm guessing the only voices that matter to them are the media and entertainment industries, plus a handful of Lefty activist billionaires who fund them and the various organizations that make things happen. Recall that the featured speakers at a recent Dem Congressional retreat were. . . Obama pal (singer) John Legend and his obnoxious wife.

369 It is folly to think that rules or definitions or whatnot are in play with impeachment. Raskin is not alone in stating that the Mueller report details obstruction of justice by the President. Hell, Nadler says it details both Russian collusion and obstruction.

They might as well just do Orange Man Bad.

373 which made it a crime for any commoner to criticize the Sovereign in public - truth or falsehood had nothing at all to do with it.

One of the first cases of jury nullification in America was a libel case when a newspaper accurately and truthfully reported the crimes of the Governor (NY if I recall correctly) before the revolution. Back then it was just illegal to say ill of representatives of the crown, the only point of the trial was to find out if it happened or not.

The jury decided that the claims were true, and hence could not be libelous, and found him not guilty. No word if they flipped off the judge or not. This was the foundation of America's concepts of freedom of the press.

376 Did Ace make a joke once about Jonah and the Pulitzer prize? That would explain that particular claim; Goldberg just copied it out.

But this whole Franco-Ahmari war delights me. For ages I've been railing against the totally one-note version of "fusion" conservatism on Lowry's watch. Gone were the days when I first started to read NR in the 60s (and which dated from its founding), when the contributors were engaged in serious internal disagreements on fundamental issues.

No doubt they still debate, but somehow "is a pineapple pizza a sandwich?" doesn't quite stand up beside this:
https://tinyurl.com/y7ynlfka
(The original Meyer piece is link in the above; both should be read.)

And I am convinced a lot of the Never Trump problem comes from this death of debate. They would not have been so astonished, and their noses not be so out of joint, had people been calling BS on them within their own pages. The fell into the left's trap of believing that they were the only game in town.

I realize that many will put the problem down entirely to corruption. But I'm with C S Lewis, the road to corruption is gradual. And here, in a purportedly intellectual venue, I believe it started with intellectual corruption (just as in the faculty of Bracton College.)

378 There are not actually instances of obstruction of justice outlined in the Mueller report. Not even the made up Weissman kind.

The Weissman version insists that any defense or anything that interrupts their prosecution is obstruction. Section II is all about instances of ways that Trump by saying he's innocent and acting normally could have "obstructed." Anything other than holding your wrists out for cuffs is deemed as "obstruction" by Weissman under that legal theory.

If you listen to Barr, he keeps saying "not under the law." He also keeps referring to "staff" which means Weissman and their 'legal theory."

Weissman hoped to dangle these pseudo and discredited theories of "obstruction" before the press in a slow roll out so that by the time section 2 had been properly redacted that everyone thought there had actually been obstruction.

It worked on the Enron and the Martha Stewart juries and they saw no reason it wouldn't work for congress and public opinion.

Barr screwed that up by writing up his summary with findings before they could do the slow leak drip.

Crappy example.

Barky should have been impeached ... 100 times over. It was amazing how many laws he broke and how many un-Constitutional acts he committed and how much he set out to harm America's interest. Just amazing. But it would have taken serious people with some guts to do that, which we were so sorely lacking. We'll see if we have serious people with guts to throw his America-hating treasonous ass in jail.

The only reason Barky wasn't impeached (the only reason he was even elected) was because he was black.

392 Braun includes a great travel case that is stiff (although not exactly rocky ) and must protect it well on trips.

Braun's technology is represented well in the blades around the Series 3.
The engine is not as strong as the Series 7, and it's
possible that the blades are all created. Braun's Series 7 7865 was known as a system by and should it we n't considered price it'd be difficult to justify choosing anything else.

The trimmer does a great job of cutting your pubic hair to nearly skin level, whereas the foil shaver head will leave your skin smooth.
the razors are designed to run moist, it's pretty easy to disperse some soap onto
the foil while the head is chilled and run the
shaver engine , in the same way the cleaning rack does. Nearly all razor blades operate sharper, better, and more
comfortable with oil.
