I'm sure there is a fine and logical argument for the existence of each of these departments, but the vast and vile amount of waste and graft and sloth is just too much to dismiss. This is the country we can expect if the current crop of children, ignorant of the existential danger of socialism, usher in some grand experiment in "correctly implemented" socialism in America. Denver doesn't want only coastal states to experience such joys so they are racing to attract more homeless, install bike lanes to make our traffic even worse (we may not yet be too bad by Atlantic City, NYC, Boston, Seattle standards but compared to what it was here 20 years ago - YUCK.)

Bike lanes are counter to the point of bicycling in NYC. It's supposed to verge on the suicidal.
I was for a few months a NYC bicycle messenger. Very heavy on adrenaline. I came up with the maxim "mass times velocity equals right of way". My bike got stolen before I was crippled and I took that as a message from God to get some indoor work. Posted by: Bandersnatch at June 02, 2019 12:29 PM (fuK7c) 19

Had a discussion with my garbageman this week. We have been having problems with them ignoring some houses and I finally got the man himself. He has a brand new truck with some kind of 'bail' or 'bale' sawtooth type thingy around the front loader. Adds almost 2' to getting the cans up and over and serious weight restrictions will be applied. Nice guy, who made jokes about which kids were visiting because of beer bottles/cans and wine boxes. My own usage is bad enough, but when the kids blow through, it is very noticeable.

My first time in NYC was in 1995. It was still kinda grimy, in the early days of Giuliani. Then I went back in 1997 and saw a profound change. Then I moved there in 1999 and it was a different world. I left in 2002. Went back in 2009 and it was still pretty good. Last time I was there was 2015 and saw the decay starting again.
A new Giuliani will rise again soon I guess. Posted by: Lurking Lurker at June 02, 2019 12:58 PM (N+/ie) 103

The NYPD used to enforce noise laws by shutting down the offenders with confiscations and fines. The mayor wanted to save some money on the lawsuits so the cops stopped shutting down the parties. Fireworks are ignored, too. Two years ago, the cops put up a sign at Rockaway and Sutphin on May 1 reminding people that they are illegal. Last year the sign went up July 7th.

NYC is fast approaching 3rd world status ==== Read years ago about Calcutta's aggressive crackdown on beggars. They actually were intent on changing the impression of the place. They want to show off the city as one that is part of a growing economy with a sophisticated culture, and they were ashamed of their reputation for poverty and slums. So, no, NYC is embracing the Third World chic which developing countries know well enough to try and escape from. Posted by: Dr. Spaceman at June 02, 2019 01:02 PM (zG/lm) 118

All this talk about guns, illegal immigrants, and tariffs leads me to ask a few questions:
1. If you don't think trade is a good way to exercise national power to protect our interests, would you rather Trump instead believe that power comes from the barrel of a gun? 2. If you think we should all be taxed higher, isn't the government skimming off billions in tariffs and some prices going up pretty much the same thing as being taxed more, except it actually creates American jobs? 3. If you are worried about helping the poor increase their standard of living why do you want to import millions more of them to compete for low-skill, low-wage jobs, and make welfare rolls soar? Just wondering. Posted by: Ray Van Dune at June 02, 2019 01:05 PM (CxApx) 124

The ironic thing is that none of it is necessary. Modern means of communication and transportation have made cities obsolete. Posted by: rickl at June 02, 2019 01:25 PM (sdi6R) Progtard permissiveness will turn the major cities into Escape from New York dystopias. We are past the tipping point. The big cities are not obsolete. In this country they are needed to house dozens of millions of effectively supernumerary NPCs. These NPCs need to live somewhere. Not too long ago the cities made sense because there were plenty of crumbs to be had that fell off of cosmopolitan tables of prosperity. The big difference today is that marxist tyrants are now in control and using them to ignite the revolution. I am not saying these unfortunates are inherently or congenitally NPC, but I will say that those mad for more power are doing everything they can to increase their numbers. This is a shitty conundrum. Posted by: sunflower at June 02, 2019 01:35 PM (I54dk) 174

It's not like the Progtards are making any secret of how they see the future in America. They spew their plans every time they get together for urban planning, etc. Some of their plans may already have been implemented in your very own burg. So- Progtard Vision of the Future: 1) Make suburbs too inconvenient or too costly for middle class people. You will see this in cities like NYC where they tax/fee the living doodad out of those who drive into the city. Cuz they're not paying their "fair share" 2) Build giant urban apartment towers for everyone to live in.(think the towers in "Dredd") a) Create mixed communities, where you will be forced to live next door to drug dealers, thugs, etc. 3) No cars allowed in the city. It will be all bicycles and public transport. 4) There will be stores near you that will provide everything you need (according to your betters), so you will never have any reason to travel of your little quadrant. 5) Your a large amount of your food will be made from processed insects. Becuz Cows are killing the planet1!!!1111!!!!11111. 6) The suburbs will be torn down so that Gaia may flourish. 7) Solar and wind will provide all of the power that you need(according to your betters), so the cost of electricity will be zero(!) BBL friends, Buses, Bicycles and Limousines are the only allowed 'woke' means of transportation. And if you can't get someone to pay for your limousine, you don't get to fly either, you have to use the 'high speed' trains. Imagine how great flying will be when you don't need to bother with the whole airport nonsense! The Limousine can drop you off at the bottom of the escalator leading up to the door of the plane! And the peasant who drove you will load your bags! And you don't have to deal with ANY of the 99%!

"... we're never getting out of this, because so much
power is concentrated in these cities, so that effectively every state will, if they aren't already, be taken over by the bloated, festering, rotted sorry excuse for human existence that is the modern city"Posted by: BurtTC Some of my neighbors that raised kids on a smaller farms ... their kids and grandkids all seem to like the big city. There are certainly many things to do in Chicago I guess, and perhaps it is not hard to avoid the worst areas. But those people are also Democrats, I have found, in a county that voted 70% Trump (even though the main city had a Dem mayor for many years till 2012). The real farmers have kids that were more fully involved in farming ... I think those kids are the ones that are likely to do the work, enjoy the life. They are also the Trump voters. With modern conveniences and tech (I have fiber even 1/2 mile off the blacktop) ... and air conditioned tractors ... we could maybe have a revival in the rural communities, with smaller horticulture or small ag opportunities. Online communities can support each other directly, even if they are a hundred miles away geographically. But yeah, I don't know how downstate IL ever gets free of the Chicago mafia, since a landslide victory for Trump in every place except Chicago and a few other big city communities ... still means Hilda won by 17%. Greetings:
I moved into Manhattan in the mid-70s from the Bronx. I had a nice pair of motorcycle boots that I couldn't wear anymore because the doggie doo-doo would collect in the Vibram lug soles. Where's Rudy G when you need him ??? Posted by: 11B40 at June 02, 2019 02:35 PM (evgyj) 249
