71 Frederic Leighton appreciates the female figure. The lithe shape and milky skin (as far down as it goes before the scales start) remind me of Fratzetta. The relatively darker shades of the background and even the fisherman's skin all form a frame for the syren. Even the detail in the rocks and her hair emphasize her body but also stress the peril of the fisherman, now oblivious to the rising water. Very effective. This must be interesting to see in person.

114 I saw a mermaid once while fishing, or close enough.

I was on a business trip is a strange distant land and I asked everyone about fishing but no one knew anything, so I looked at a map and made a guess and took a cab out to a place at dawn of my last day there.

I caught a fish. Yay! And then as the sun came up a topless girl swam a couple of laps in the cove and came up to my rock. I asked if she knew what I'd caught and she didn't, but still a mermaid swam up to me.

(It was an Australian salmon, which isn't a salmon of any kind).

It's been brought to my attention that last Tuesday was the thirtieth anniversary of the Polish legislative elections where Solidarity won a shocking landslide victory over the Communist legislative coalition. 206 The Supreme Court will hear case that could make it more difficult to bring a race discrimination challenge.

"The specific issue in this case is exactly what plaintiffs have to show to make out a race-discrimination claim under one of the more significant federal civil rights statutes," said Steve Vladeck, CNN Supreme Court analyst and professor at the University of Texas School of Law.

"The question is whether it is enough, as the lower court held here, for a plaintiff to show that race was a significant factor in the defendant's allegedly discriminatory conduct, or whether, as the challengers are arguing, race must be the sole reason why the challenged conduct was undertaken," Vladeck added. "How the justices answer that question could have enormous ramifications for similar race discrimination claims going forward."

This cannot be! They're all economic geniuses!

This is hilarious, and expected, and it's amazing that someone could write such a long detailed article about their problems without once touching what they really are, and why they're failing now. (which are both very simple and obvious)

ThinkProgress is owned and operated by CAP (the misnamed Center for American Progress) which was created by John Podesta to function as an extension of Hillary, Inc. If she had won, this was going to be her private propaganda outlet, and it was all staffed by Hillary loyalists, selected by John Podesta. Also, it was *never* intended to have any revenue, it was paid for by either the Clinton Foundation or donors who wanted to earn favors from the Clinton's.

So surprise, surprise, surprise, the donor's have dried up and Hillary and Chelsea have apparently become bored with funding it. Well that's game, set, and match - they NEVER had any plans for revenue generation other than that.

So, that writer goes through that entire article with "oh it's so sad they failing, who knows why?" and never once stated the obvious, that this was always a Clinton, Inc., vehicle that the Clinton's no longer find useful.

293 John Milton contemplates the injustice of wanting to do good and not having the capacity. And wisdom teaches him that God desires not our service, but our wills. Sonnet 19 "When I consider how my light is spent" by John Milton

=========
So its like the problem of giving gifts to someone who has everything already. I need to make God a present -- What to do? What to do?

If you think about it, the one thing we have that is ours that we can give is our will. A freely taken decision to do or refrain from doing a thing that nature would otherwise have us do, that He instructs us to do or refrain from doing.

Everything else here is pretty much His already.

I watched Hail Caesar over the weekend. Summed up by "God wants us to do what is right". "I got it Padre, thanks!"

Its not easy to get good results down here, but like all gifts freely given in good will, its also the thought counts as well.

Keep tryin' people.

294 Small problem, Rudy - McCarthy was basically right.

In the essence of his claims yeah. In the specifics he went a little nuts. But the public perception of McCarthy and the way he's continually depicted in pop culture... its a dead on and powerful image to tie her with.

321 TALES OF BRAVE ULYSSES

You thought the leaden winter
Would bring you down forever
But you rode upon a steamer
To the violence of the sun

And the colors of the sea
Blind your eyes with trembling mermaids
And you touch the distant beaches
With tales of brave Ulysses

How his naked ears were tortured
By the sirens sweetly singing
For the sparkling waves are calling you
To touch their white laced lips

And you see a girl's brown body
Dancing through the turquoise
And her footprints make you follow
Where the sky loves the sea

And when your fingers find her
She drowns you in her body
Carving deep blue ripples
In the tissues of your mind

The tiny purple fishes
Run laughing through your fingers
And you want to take her with you
To the hard land of the winter

Her name is Aphrodite
And she rides a crimson shell
You know you cannot leave her
For you touched the distant sands

With tales of brave Ulysses
How his naked ears were tortured
By the sirens sweetly singing
Yeah

The tiny purple fishes
Run laughing through your fingers
You want to take her with you
To the hard land of the winter

330 Abortion bans are 'bad for business,' 180 business execs say in letter denouncing recent legislation

Posted by: HA at June 10, 2019 09:50 AM (MAstk)

Makes one wonder what these "business execs" real motivation is here. Let's look at the big picture. For one thing, only a relative handful of states have passed laws restricting abortion (off the top of my head, I can only think of Georgia, Alabama and Missouri; there may be a few more, but any way you slice it, the number is not large).

These laws have all been passed by state legislatures and governors. Does anyone think for one minute that any of these entities would be doing this without the approval of a clear majority of their electorates? Seriously? Remember, the most important thing to any politician is getting re-elected. Do any of these "execs" really think that these state government officials are going to do anything to put that at risk? Like passing laws that are not uniformly popular with their populations?

Again, it makes one think what these "business execs" motivations here really are...

To Whom it Might Concern,
Here is my resume. I want to work for your company, but I don't want to come work in GA because if I want to have an abortion, I can't get one there, I need to drive to another state to get one. So if this job is in GA, forget it.

To Whom it Might Concern

I used to be your customer, but when GA passed a law banning abortions after six weeks, I am no longer going to come into any store in GA(even though I live there) and shop. I will drive to TN and buy everything, including Gillette razors, because I always remember that I can't get an abortion in GA, and it's so unfair, so I won't give any money to GA.
