Report: Fake Social Media Accounts Spread Pro-Iran Messages During Midterms

The story the media just can't stop talking about.

A network of fake social media accounts impersonated political candidates and journalists to spread messages in support of Iran and against U.S. President Donald Trump around the 2018 congressional elections, cybersecurity firm FireEye said on Tuesday.

The findings show how unidentified, possibly government-backed, groups could manipulate social media platforms to promote stories and other content that can influence the opinions of American voters, the researchers said.

This particular operation was largely focused on promoting “anti-Saudi, anti-Israeli, and pro-Palestinian themes,” according to the report by FireEye.

The campaign was organized through a series of fake personas that created various social media accounts, including on Twitter and Facebook. Most of these accounts were created last year and have since been taken down, the report said.

Wait, so let me get this straight:

Obama colluded with Iran to run an information op against the US public and media ("they know literally nothing," Ben Rhodes said of the Iran Echo Chamber he conducted) to benefit Iran, and then...

...Iran repays the favor by running psyops to benefit both itself and the Democrat Party.

This reminds me of something... tip of my tongue...

No, don't tell me. I'm sure it will come to me.

21 As I was saying...

The Flynn thing is interesting because I think both sides wanted to sentence delayed as possible. Flynn because he knew the truth was out there and could no longer afford the expense of a trial.

But what about the prosecution? Why not have one of Trump's appointees in actual jail?

The answer is twofold. On the one hand, they knew how shaky their evidence was. If Flynn faced prison, he'd go all-in because he has no choice. At that point, the evidence would come out. But that's a secondary consideration.

I think the primary reason was that they wanted to maintain the illusion that Flynn had "flipped" and was turning on Trump. The entire Mueller thing was smoke and mirrors and they wanted to try to get false testimony implicating Trump. By having Flynn on ice, they could lie freely about what he had "given up" and try to get other Trump associates to flip.

But Flynn didn't give anything up. And so now, with Mueller spent, he can look forward to a judge overturning the plea.

29 now with the Nork negotiating team, a lot of people are WAY overanalyzing this - it's not really much of a mystery. (That is, if it happened at all, and the sourcing for this story is actually very, very thin) Kim had a summit with Trump, and he had 4 or 5 guys who were supposed to put the summit together. It went badly and embarrassed Kim, so when he got home he executed everybody who helped set it up.

34 Now on topic, anyone notice how suddenly, after years of taking Saudi money, suddenly everyone hates the Saudis?

It's almost like Iran and Qatar have outbid our Good Friends.

Not only have they outbid them, they're demanding an arms embargo because a Qatari agent was put to death. Oh, yeah, they don't admit he's an agent, but that's what he was.

Weird how Iran can kill GIs wholesale and all we do is shrug and try to be better friends ("here, take pallets of cash!") but Saudi Arabia - which is actually shaping up and making nice with Israel (!) is now BAD BAD BAD.

---
I don't see how Barr can let Mooler act insubordiante in that manner.
Posted by: Keto not Beto at May 31, 2019 05:43 PM (JziUy)
---
I don't either, but it's better not to make a hubbub with cries of retribution and such.

I was going to post on the Barr thread earlier, but it took so long to read it among my other tasks. But Andy McCarthy was on Buck Sexton's show last night, and he said that the exchange that Barr refers to happened weeks before the release of the report.

Basically, what McCarthy picked up from close reading is that the Mueller team came in and said they weren't going to reach a conclusion on obstruction. McCarthy points out that this shows that the lack of a conclusion was the starting point. Then, Barr's team asks specifically: are you saying this is because of the OLC policy? And the Mueller team says "No", but when pressed, they say they are still formulating their statement on why they can't reach a conclusion.

And then time ran out and they hashed together something about it being partly about the OLC. They had already told Barr it wasn't the OLC--because they knew they could make a finding of fact, regardless of policy to carry it forward--like Comey did, right?

So, what we have is a couple of instances where the Mueller scumsuckers just blew the AG office off.

I wonder how that fits in with the "Rule of Law" feints the ideologically-impaired party is throwing?

I suggest that this is not really a bad thing; this is how Old Media dies, and New Media is born. The Old Media is no longer capable of doing the job they once did - they're little more than Church Bulletins for Faithful Progs, to think of them as anything more than that is foolish.

So something new is going to arise which takes their place - what is the form of that? Perhaps this blog is one form. Perhaps podcasts, almost certainly something a lot more decentralized than the corporate ad-driven model that's failing.

'The News" as a business model is Dead. But something new is about to turn up, it always does.

They used to sell these little segmented flowerpots with six different herbs in them at the local farmers market. I bought several of them and killed them all. Never have had much success with herbs down here. However, mint will take over your yard down here if you plant it outside. Smells great when you mow it.

293 ace, as you'll be engaging in urban farming, I won't have many tips - but I am a major suburban basil farmer. For now I use only pots, nothing in the ground or the yet-to-be built raised bed. If you have a place with direct sun for enough time of the day, I see no reason you can't do it. Basil is by far the first herb people should grow - easy so versatile, and much better than [most] commercially available stuff, unless you have access to a very good, legit farmer's market.

305 Don't listen to all these farmers, Ace. You're a city guy now. Here's what you do:

Buy some of that basil in the supermarket that has its roots still attached and comes in a plastic bag.

Grab a Solo cup and go to the park and scoop up some dirt. Plunk your basil plant in there. Poke a few holes in the bottom of the cup for drainage and put it on a small plate on a sunny window sill. Keep it watered, but not too much.

Then you can go on the Gardening Thread and act all "Mr. Green Thumb-like" and say something along the lines of, "Now, remember everyone, basil doesn't like wet feet!" And they'll understand because that's how they talk, and they'll say, "OMG! Ace is a real gardener!"
