Texas House Passes "Save Chick-Fil-A" Bill, Forbidding Any Government "Adverse Action" Against a Business Based on Religious Belief

At Instapundit.

This is a rebuke of San Antonio for presuming to ban Chick-Fil-A from their airport.

Governor Abbot is being cagey and elusive about whether he'll sign the bill into law.

Posted by: Can't resist temptation at May 22, 2019 04:09 PM (e46OR)

58 I actually don't think a legislative bill was the best way to go after this, but it was the fastest, and I don't argue with them passing it.

The action of the San Antonio City Council *should* have gone to Federal Court and been challenged as a violation of the First Amendment, on the grounds that it is impermissible for any level of Government to discriminate in its contracting ability merely over the political opinions a contractor's employees or owners may hold. To allow otherwise would be to open the door to allowing local political units (like city councils) to ONLY do business with the political allies. They do that already, of course, but it isn't blatant. yet.

And, MikeyG, are you Listening? THIS is why America grants Corporations status as Persons Under the Law - because if you don't, the State can Mandate their absolute obedience on Every Political Issue.

199 Years ago, LA removed the cross from the city seal. Really. Ciudad de los Angeles, nope, can't have a cross on the seal. Any religious symbol, however historically integral to the place or thing, must be effaced. Lots of money spent to redo the seal on city vehicles, property, etc.

An early example of the vile Taliban/Khmer Rouge mindset that's now in full flower, with Confederate statue removal/school and place names, etc [and note how the idiocy is not limited to the "left"].

Or they'll use some other pretext. Whatever. We know they won't stop just because there is a law, or a bill of rights or a constitution."

They might - but remember that the biggest reason the SA City Council did this was that they wanted all the cheers and adulation they'd get from the Woke Far Left when they said "Hey Look we're stickin' it to Chick Fil A because Gay Rights!!!! Yay Us!!!!"

and if they go through some longer technical way of doing it it's not so good, because they gotta explain what they've done without explicitly stating it, and that's just messy and no fun.

and also, remember that no one on that City Council actually gives a damn who has a restaurant out there, that doesn't matter one damn bit. It's all about Woke Virtue Signaling.

Because when they're busy they're making everything fresh. When they're not busy, they're letting stuff sit around.

If you're getting a sandwich anywhere, always get something special about it. Add mustard. No Ketchup. Something. You can always add ketchup later. They have to make it fresh then. There's no guarantee on the quality of the meat, though you can also ask for a fresh patty.

339 I remember in the days before the internet, seeing a xeroxed "recipe" going around the office the all the girls tried. It was called "TJ's Miracle Soup" which was basically hot water with some cabbage leaves steeped in it for a few minutes. Kate Moss and other Biafran's disguised as Ford Models lived on it to be "waffer-theen".

Feh.

Sounds like a newfangled version of the Cabbage Soup Diet of the 70s. Cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, all low carb veggies, cooked together in water. You could eat as much as you wanted but nothing else. A week of that, if you could stand it, and yeah you'd lose weight.

What stood out, besides the humidity that could drown mosquitoes, was that it was like driving through multiple downtowns, for about two hours. Maybe off in the distance to the right."

I prefer outside skirt to the classic cuts at this point. It is no cheaper but you get great flavor. You have to know how to cook it and cut it but it is not that complicated.

The inside skirt and some bad cuts make skirt seem too finicky and much of a chore. But if you can get some good cuts, it is great just for a regular steak night.
