Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant"Well, just when you think the GOP has finally gotten everything under control, they go and step on their own d*cks. Again. Here is their latest f*ck-up: Mitch McConnell has just introduced a bill which would increase the minimum age to buy cigarettes and other tobacco products from 18 to 21 years. When I first heard about this, I smacked myself in the forehead so hard, the slope disappeared. I mean, is federal intervention is such matters really necessary? That's quite a silly display of nanny-statism. Apparently, the several states aren't competent enough to handle these things for themselves but require the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-benevolent FedGov to make these decisions for them. Sounding like quite the alarminst, Cocaine Mitch said, quote, the health of our children is literally at stake, unquote. The panic implied in this statement rivals AOC's claim that "the world is going to end in 12 years" if we don't immediately mandate buttplugs for cows and outlaw economic prosperity. Never mind the fact that 18-year-olds are scarcely children. Never mind the fact that these same 18-year-olds are eligible for military service, so even though they can be shipped off to foreign soil and die in combat, they can't buy their own cigarettes. Soon, liquor stores all across America will be festooned with crowds of 18-21 year old "children" asking adults to buy cigarettes for them. But bigger than any of that, though, does anybody really want this? Does anyone recall hearing any calls for legislation about this from normal Americans? I thought the purpose of the federal government was to maintain post roads and collect tariffs from surly foreigners, not to post inspectors in every lavoratory to make sure you wiped your butt good enough. C'mon, Mitch, it's time to focus on what's really important: confirming more of Presidents Trump judicial picks so that perhaps there will be a chance that this country can be restored to some semblance of sanity, and also doing whatever it takes to insure that our borders are not overrun by surly foreigners who don't want to pay tariffs. Let the states make their own laws about tobacco usage, and the federal government can just butt the hell out. After all, the 10th Amendment shouldn't be that hard to understand." Speaking of Alarmism:

****** Entirely different. A good muffuletta is thick piled meat (usually ham) with typically a green olive relish on a circular soft bun. Po'boy is usually fried seafood (oysters or shrimp or both) on a really crusty french type roll. The crustier the better. Other's mileage may vary. As strange as it sounds, Mitch's bill is actually a sop to the tobacco companies (and the states) who are losing huge amounts of tax revenue due to vaping's popularity. As we all know, public health always takes a back seat to dollars.
What will soon happen is that the cigarette aspect of the bill will be stripped leaving only the ban on selling vape supplies to people under 21. Then, various paid-for party hacks will stand in front of cameras and claim to have 'struck a blow against big tobacco'. They may even use that exact phrase, the pharisees. Speaking of Cocaine Mitch's overreach, have you noticed all the ads attacking the vape industry? They start with a Very Serious Disclaimer about nicotine being addicting. And then go on from there.
This to me is an example of how the authoritarian left, once it decrees something BAD will not let up in it's fanatical pursuit of making sure nobody, anywhere, nohow, circumvents their authority. Personally I think vaping is a wonderful solution and wish it had been around when I was a smoker to keep me from inhaling all that carcinogenic stuff that was in cigarettes. And yeah, while nicotine may be addictive, so is caffeine. Are we all supposed to become Mormons? For crying out loud. Posted by: LGoPs at May 22, 2019 11:32 AM (jYEmF) 96

There are so many huge issues facing us, and they chose to "solve" something that's not even a problem for 99.9999% of the population, for nothing but political points.

Thank you all for your prayers. Mrs. kim is doing well with her infusions. She gets the biologic drug every six weeks. Once she gets the drug she is down and out for two days.(headaches and nausea) after that for about four weeks she feels relatively better then the two week stretch is on where the pain in her joints and back is at the worst. Rinse-repeat.
I guess that is better than no relief at all. I only wish I could take it away. I would take it for myself if she could be free of the pain and debilitation. Posted by: USNtakim profoundly deplorable. at May 22, 2019 11:42 AM (0OmEj) 186

The reason for the ruling is a reality of American Libel Law, and why Libel suits are so hard to win in this country. The Plaintiff has to present Clear and Convincing Evidence of Actual Malice towards the target, or else the case is thrown out. And that's hard to do. Sex hormone "treatment and gender surgery for an 8 year old?
Absolutely. An 8 year old can decide what to do with their body and life. Smoking at 18? Hell, no!!! 18 year olds aren't responsible enough to know what to do with their body and life. Supposedly this whole thing has to do with an "epidemic" of vapers. It isn't even about tobacco. How long ago was it that vaping was supposed to be helping people quit smoking tobacco and was a "reduced risk"product?
At this point I doubt anyone who speaks out on the subject as they all have an agenda. Some will tell you cigars, cigs, chew, vape all have the same risk, that is is dangerous to even compare them to each other. They have no science backing them, but they do have their principles. It is odd that no one calls out the patch, nicotine gum and other products made by big pharma. Sure smoking is bad, you should not do it. Then again, when was the last time someone got killed by a smoke driver? Hell, it was not that long ago that the smoking age was 16. Were we really so backward back then? I guess we were, we even didn't card people buying beer if they had gray hair. It was a simpler time. For whatever reason, the R's have decided that using government is just fine as long as they wield the power The government is getting way too happy with messing with business, picking winners and losers. It is not the best occurrences if you are a movement conservative. And it seems Big Tobacco is in on it too. The big tobacco companies have benefited greatly from government interference to date. I don't know if they support Mitch on this move because they see a real gain in it or if they are just trying to stay on the good side of the guys that decide the future of their business. In Texas, the age of consent is 17. And the courts would never let anything get in the way of a teen having an abortion. And you'll be tried as an adult for any serious criminal misadventure. And you can enlist in the armed forces at 18, enter binding contracts by then if not sooner. Vote. Strip, make porn. Etc. etc. This is British nanny-state level of dumbness.
And just yesterday, a bill setting a 21 year age limit for tobacco passed the second house of the TX legislature. I expect Abbott will sign it "for the children." Posted by: Bob the Bilderberg at May 22, 2019 12:08 PM (24G6n) 352
Anyone caught tampering with the collection mechanism of their personal "flatulence flask" greenhouse gas recycling device will stand trial before the federal green board.

Massachusetts is working on some Bill's to legalize weed in some restaurants and outdoor venues. I guess smoking is only bad when red states do it.

289 Everyone hated Theresa May, even her own party. Only surprise is why it took her this long to resign.

New poster here... read fairly often but never post. That PoBoy looks a little anemic. If you are ever in New Orleans, try the shrimp, oyster or roast beef PoBoy at Parkway Bakery. It is worth the trip out of the downtown tourist haunts.

What is c-diff?
- Clostridium difficile Difficile is Latin for "difficult". When they start labeling your disease difficult, that's not a good sign. Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Tyrannosaur Wrangler at May 22, 2019 12:34 PM (+y/Ru) 362
This to me is an example of how the authoritarian left, once it decrees
something BAD will not let up in it's fanatical pursuit of making sure nobody, anywhere, nohow, circumvents their authority. To me it comes down to a simple message: "The Democrats/Progressives are Against LIBERTY!" Plain and simple message for da-yutz. Force them to look the word up.
