Justin Amash Joins with Rashid Tliab to Call for Impeachment, Leftist Rulership of America

From PJMedia's Morning Briefing:

Amash does not offer specifics. Barr's letter summarizing Mueller's conclusion was entirely accurate. Barr said the report concluded there was no collusion, coordination, or conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the RUSSIANS. Barr said that Mueller did not make a decision about whether the president committed obstruction of justice. How is that misleading? Why would Barr lie about the report and then release it? None of these things makes sense. But you know what does make sense? That Amash wants to run for president as a libertarian.

One more thing, J-Am, where are your libertarian principles regarding illegal surveillance on American citizens? On Illegal FISA warrants, national security letters, human intelligence assets being placed around a political campaign by the unelected political bureaucracy? The jack-booted fedgov strong-arming people to plead to process crimes? U cool with that bro, because TRUMP?

He's got new friends. They always get new friends, don't they?

Suck on "this," Fake Libertarian liberal sell-out:

A Michigan state lawmaker on Monday announced he will mount a primary challenge to Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) after the congressman tweeted that he believed President Trump had committed impeachable offenses, according to the Detroit Free Press.

State Rep. Jim Lower (R) said he would challenge Amash in the Republican primary for his western Michigan seat rather than seek a third term in the state legislature.

Lower said he had been planning to run before Amash's remarks but fast-tracked his announcement after the tweets this weekend despite originally planning to make it closer to July 4.

Princeton could use a man like Jim Lower.

Never trust anyone whose method of defining himself, and of showing off his virtue, is by negative comparison to you. That's what libertarians are, that's what the liberal NeverTrumpers are.

People often define themselves by that which they are not. But it's not good to make a political alliance with those who specifically signal that they are good and wise because they are not Deplorable You. Never trust them, never rely on them, because the very heart of their ego and self-regard is spurning you and despising you.

What would be courageous is a Dem bucking his/her own party, because they have those folks on lock down.

Now if say Ted Cruz said something similar (in whatever parallel universe), I would at least be more willing to look into his issues. But then again, Cruz would actually have provided details.

Yep, that is my problem with what I understand about libertarian philosophy. I actually agree with a lot of what the say, but the fatal flaw that gets them off the rails IMO is not accounting for human nature, which leads to weird conclusions sometimes. I generally respect their philosophy quite a bit, but I find a lot of self-proclaimed libertarians to be ridiculous.

The party should demand that anyone calling for impeachment cite (a) a criminal statute the President allegedly violated, (b) the specific evidence for that crime.

If none of the above, they are to be deemed Ridiculous Assclown and motion to expel said member from their chamber should be initiated.

That, and that in this country we do not indict for the purpose of "looking for a crime."

Tekton sells hand tools which it claims are US made but imports them from the Chinese firm Dynamic Source International which is co-owned by Congressman Justin Amash.

Posted by: Blue Bird of F'ing Joy at May 20, 2019 12:42 PM (o/v81)

I don't know what is so hard for open borders zealots on the left or right to understand.

Do you have a right to determine who should be allowed in your own home? If you are doing okay financially, does that give every person worse off than you the right to enter your home undeterred and parade through your house, taking whatever they want? Do you have a personal obligation to do financially support every single poor person in your neighborhood?

And by the way, how generous are you in your personal life, anyway? How often do you actually help people in need?

If your answer is rarely or never, shut it.

279 The biggest problem with libertarians these days is that they aren't really all that libertarian. A lot of them are just GOP squishes and big-city types who find the religious right distasteful. Problem is that all that stodgy moralizing is what makes limited government possible. Organic public order from below rather than being imposed above. No state that doesn't stigmatize unwed motherhood and other morally wrongheaded choices is going to remain small for too long, because it's inherent that those choices create constituencies who will want to vote themselves other people's money as a means of support.

281 Ace said this:

"Never trust anyone whose method of defining himself, and of showing off his virtue, is by negative comparison to you. That's what libertarians are, that's what the liberal NeverTrumpers are."

For the left, white "cis" males are the one group that it's always okay to hate and it's always okay to just dump on. Ace, are you putting libertarians also in a permanent "okay to hate" category?

I consider myself a libertarian. (A small-l libertarian, not a Libertarian, because I'm not a member of the Libertarian Party.)

The people who love government sure love to dump on libertarians. It's not that fun to get it from people who should be my allies in addition to people who are my enemies.

I'm totally fine with dumping on Justin Amash and in particular I'm fine with calling him a "fake libertarian" if he won't even object to Stasi-like surveillance of US citizens. Maybe he says he's a libertarian but he doesn't seem to be a good one. He should go pound sand.

A libertarian is a person who believes that individual liberty is axiomatically good. A libertarian rejects tests like "does this right cause more trouble than it's worth", like the standard gun banners want to apply to the Second Amendment, or like the progressives want to apply to "hate speech" and thus apply to the First Amendment. And a libertarian, a real one, is firmly opposed to government spying on its own citizens under almost all circumstances (and "orange man bad" definitely does not excuse it).

Traditionally, libertarians have been more closely aligned with conservatives, because conservatives overall want the government to be smaller and do less. The traditional difference between a libertarian and a social conservative was that sometimes the social conservative approved of the use of government to enforce morality (for example, keeping marijuana illegal, or keeping prostitution illegal). libertarians don't favor government getting involved in "victimless crimes". (That's not to say we always approve of such activities; it means that we don't think government should be involved in regulating it.)

A modern conservative who might want the church to tell people not to do gay stuff but doesn't want the government to force people not to do gay stuff... that's pretty close to a libertarian, whatever that person may call himself/herself.

Because we have a winner-take-all system, I've been voting straight Republican for years, even though I'm a libertarian. I'm not going to stop just because people dump on libertarians, but I am going to ask you to just stop it. Just stop it.

By all means call out fake libertarians who can't even condemn Stasi-like tactics. By all means call out never-Trumpers of any political stripe. And please, keep up the snark and funny jibes against our political enemies.

But there's no need to just pick fights with libertarians, like me, who are natural allies of conservatives. Big tent, okay?

333 That's fine. I have no problem with real libertarians. The problem is that libertarians don't seem to be interested in what I'll call "classical" libertarianism anymore, or if they are they refuse to call out the libertarians who are just stalking horses for the left.

The problem with libertarianism - and the reason I come down on it - is that it's the right wing's answer to Marxism. Namely, a superficially appealing but laughably unworkable pseudo-intellectual prescription for utopia, which appellation is particularly apt, since "utopia" literally means "nowhere."

Posted by: Curmudgeon

OOOooohhhhh, this explains a lot.

I used to sympathize a lot with Palestinian Christians in Bethlehem, as they suffered endless abuse, killings and ethnic cleansing at the hands of their Muslim brethren. But then I learned that a majority of Palestinian Christians are just as anti-Semitic as their Islamist relatives. Very disappointing. Many of them would rather live under the thumb of Islam than be in a Jewish nation, so they side with the Muslims in trying to include Bethlehem and East Jerusalem in some planned Palestinian state.

I wouldn't be surprised if Amash is flying his ethnic flag here. Trump is as close as we've ever had to a Jewish president (two of the recent jew-killing mass-shooters left manifestos bashing Trump as a "Jew President"), so opposing him for that reason alone is sufficient for Amash.

343 I was in one of these corporate reeducation classes last week. At one point they displayed a picture of Shanghai and asked- "what do you see?". After a bunch of contrived answers it was my turn and I said "millions of enslaved people yearning to breath free".

*audible gasp*

The proctor though they could shame me into silence by asking the follow up question- Why? Why would you say that? I stated, "It's an obvious truth. China is a communist country and by definition they are enslaved. They have no liberty or freedom that isn't granted to them by the state. I can think of few things a human being would want more than that."

344 Traditionally, libertarians have been more closely aligned with conservatives, because conservatives overall want the government to be smaller and do less.

Posted by: mr_jack at May 20, 2019 12:51 PM (57l0O)

Morality certain has a part in law. It is a huge part of what defines a society and what a sensible society pursues. This is where even "l"inertarians are off the rails. They basically want no government and they almost always are against the idea of borders, which means that they reject the idea of the nation-state. This is crazy and reflects a political ideology that bears no relationship to reality. THis is the problem with libertarians. Anyone who is against the idea of the nation-state is not really the sort of political ally any reasonable conservative would want.

There is, of course, a huge difference between Libertarians and libertarians but the fact is that there are far more Libertarians (and they are basically leftists whose main concerns are smoking pot and other drugs) than libertarians and that they each have serious problems being taken seriously. THe Libertarians are just leftists and the libertarians are anti-nation-state people of the most frivolous sorts of political views.

351 "198 Off-Topic: Who would be the best successor to Trump?

Dan Crenshaw seems to have a lot of spunk, and Tom Cotton ain't too bad neither."
Both are too warmongering. Crenshaw is okay but strikes me as at heart a standard donor-friendly Republican with an eyepatch: well-marketed boomer bait. I distrust him on vital conservative issues like sharply limiting _legal_ immigration, not just cracking down on illegal immigration. I worry that Crenshaw is a variation of the same "look, a vet!" hustle that the Dems used to sneak libs into a bunch of suburban moderate seats in '18. Crenshaw's service is hugely impressive at a personal level... but (as we've learned through painful experience) that can't make up for not being a nationalist.

Cotton is smarter and better. He is nationalist on a number of issues. I distrust him on foreign policy but am open to being persuaded to support him on other grounds.
The best potential successor to Trump (so far) is Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri. Go to Youtube and listen to his inaugural Senate speech from last week, it's dynamite. Hawley is focused on the cultural and political interests of working Americans, especially in the red states, and is willing to use legitimate government authority against the enemies of that base and of everyone reading this comments thread -- especially Big Tech.

Hawley is ahead of every other Republican on the tech regulation issue (sadly, including President Trump). This is not only a crucial policy issue on its own merits, it is also a good proxy for whether a Republican "gets it" overall in the present period of sharpening class conflict, institutional decline, and accelerating social revolution.

356 I think some of the condemnations of libertarians here are overly broad. For example, there are some who are just idiotic kids with stupid ideas, or potheads who think prostitution needs to be legal and borders totally open. But in the past, at least, based on the libertarians I knew, their main concern was the vast encroachment on personal liberties by the federal and local governments and a desire for greater freedom.

Sure, almost all of them were focused on pot, but a lot were also focused on taxes (calling ALL of it theft universally). But I also think most of those people are out of the party or are becoming out numbered by leftists these days.

360 #344

Morality certain has a part in law. It is a huge part of what defines a society and what a sensible society pursues. This is where even "l"inertarians are off the rails. They basically want no government

Some libertarians literally want no government. They often call themselves "anarcho-capitalists" (sometimes "ancaps" for short).

My own natural conservative tendencies say that we shouldn't be the first people to try running a whole country under the ancap ideas... and those ideas have literally never been tried in the history of the world. Government would have no army or navy, but people would pay insurance companies "anti-invasion insurance" and those companies would have their own armed forces? Are ancaps kidding? (Spoiler: they aren't kidding.)

As a libertarian who believes in a small government, I can point to a country that tried the ideas I want to see implemented. It is the USA, in its early days. The Federal government was small and did little. No income tax, no welfare or other entitlements. It worked, really well, for a long time.

And I'm not an idiot, so as long as there are any government handouts at all I want controls on immigration. I'm not 100% on board with the idea of unlimited free immigration, but I don't spend much time thinking about it because our country is so far from being a libertarian small-government country. And unless we get magical Utopian medical technology that makes all of us immune to all diseases, it's trivially obvious that we want control over who comes into the country to keep out people with horrible contagious diseases.

But my standards are that for any law or any government program I would think "am I willing to send people to prison for breaking this?" I'm totally willing to send people to prison for treason or not paying their share of the national defense; I'm not willing to send people to prison for "victimless crimes" like smoking marijuana. I'm willing to send people to prison for not paying their taxes, but that means I'm not willing to spend taxes on things like art (and definitely not on "art" like a photo of a crucifix in a jar of urine).

365 I got up to page 44 in the Mueller report. Meh. Life is too short.

One thing I learned: there were two Russian outfits who created fake online personas, and were successful in provoking some sucker rallies. I didn't see any extensive evidence that the info the fakers posted was false, or any more phony and ginned-up than our own "legitimate, domestic" political info is.

Another thing I learned: these Russian outfits primarily wanted to defeat Hillary, not elect Trump, as evidenced by their support for Bernie.

Here's something I know without reading any damn report: The widespread presence of false info, no matter what the source, does not invalidate our elections. All of our elections take place in a miasma of lies and disinformation from all parties, domestic and foreign, and always have. There's no way to prevent it, and if there was, the cure would be worse than the disease. So what the Russians did, as outlined in the report, strikes me as small potatoes, and the 2016 election results cannot be assailed on that basis.
