Senior FBI Officials Worried That Comey's "Briefing" About Blackmail Material Just Might Seem Like Comey Was Himself Blackmailing Trump, Just as Former FBI Capo J. Edgar Hoover Did to Presidents

Senior FBI officials were concerned then director James Comey would appear to be blackmailing then President-elect Trump -- using tactics notoriously associated with J.Edgar Hoover -- when he attended a fateful Jan. 6, 2017, meeting at which he informed the real estate magnate about allegations he had consorted with prostitutes in Moscow, according to Jim Baker, the bureau’s chief counsel at the time.

"We were quite worried about the Hoover analogies, and we were determined not to have such a disaster happen on our watch," said Jim Baker, then the FBI's top lawyer in an interview with the Yahoo News podcast Skullduggery. But he and Comey determined the bureau had an obligation to tell Trump of the uncorroborated allegations because "the press has it; it's about to come out. You should be alerted to that fact."

Baker strongly urged Comey not to go through with his plans to reassure Trump by telling him he was not under investigation by the FBI. "I didn't think it was accurate to say that he wasn't under investigation," said Baker.

So Comey's plan was just to lie to his boss and the chief Executive Officer of the country?

And by the way: the story was not about to come out. As Comey himself admitted, the media was not reporting on the story because they lacked a "news hook."

It was Comey's briefing that, oh my gosh golly!, provided that news hook.

Anyone who is not a fucking idiot now understands the purpose of the "briefing" was not to brief Trump about what the media was soon to report, but to provide a "news hook" pretext so that the media could report it.

And this mirthless narcissistic neo-Puritan remains outraged that he was fired.

It's one of the hazards of electing someone who had no prior government experience, so it was to be expected.

Business model hiring is ruthless - don't spend a whole lot of time analyzing, just go with your gut, toss someone into the job, and if they flop, toss them out and put someone else in their place. It might take you 5 or 6 tries to get someone good, but if you're on top of it you can do that in 6 months, and end up with who you want. And then you can let them run their part without you having to worry about it. ALSO you make sure the responsibilities are limited for new hires so that they can't do too much damage if they flop. You fire people all the time if you're following this model.

Government doesn't work on that model at all - people are hard to hire, and they're hard to fire, because they all have these little fiefdoms around them. And even worse, you have to take people you hardly know at all and throw them into huge responsibilities right from the start - like Tillerson. It's a completely different way of thinking, and of doing things, and it takes a businessman a while to recalibrate his SOP to do this well.

He gets better each month - I still want him to dump the Labor Secretary, who I think is a real piece of shit, but other than that I don't have too many real complaints about the staff he's ended up with.

Oh no, I get it. There are some spots- starting with director of the FBI- that can't get a confirmable candidate who isn't also a sack of garbage. And in 2016, confirmation depended on McCain, Flake, and Corker. I have to say, I'm most disappointed in Mattis, but then I also thought he just didn't care about politics.

As a rebuttal, though, how about President Trump's economic team? Despite not getting his preferred candidates on the Fed, the economic team has suffered almost zero turnover at the high ranks. Now consider if you were drafting or trading baseball players for, say, golf, or skiiing or something. THAT'S what Trump had to do, by and large. That, or rely on the Deep State apparatchiks.

For my part, I find it remarkable that he hasn't had to fire his entire Cabinet by now under those circumstances.

It is, but its also an indicator that he made some bad choices, more than I expected from the guy whose tag phrase is "you're fired" and who runs a show about hiring and examining new workers.

The guy gets a low C for his cabinet appointments and other choices, but he's learning fast, and I think we're in for some real treats based on his most recent picks.

It is important to remember that just about everyone who could have worked for Trump was either nevertrumper or has been scared off by the deep state warning that they would be destroyed. To the Derp State, appointments like Tillerson, McMasters, and Kelly were just fine. Their problem is that Trump saw the failures, and started shitcanning them. In terms of having a "final" cabinet that constantly produced reliable product, I can't think of a president who has come close. And we're not in a second term yet!
