The success of the Flying Tigers wasnt necessarily the capabilities of the P40, but rather Chennaults insistence that they NEVER engage zeros on the Zeros advantages, namely turn fighting and acrobatic engagements.

Quick hits, boom and zooms, and one pass formation engagements were the rule.

Having said that, the P40 is a cool airframe.

Posted by: Marcus T at May 15, 2019 02:17 PM (VpIIl)

The thing is that that isn't even a remote possibility. Overturning Roe just lets the States have their Constitutional power and we all know that there are a whole lot of states that will be allowing abortions up to and including 9 months post-natal. The biggest hardship any abortion lover will ever have is a bus trip. And Canada and Mexico will always be perfectly happy to kill babies on demand. They get a kick out of that - Canada, because they're leftists, Mexico, because life is cheap down there and they'd do anything to kill gringos at every opportunity.

Further, none of the circumstances that existed during Roe are still in place. There is pretty much no stigma attached to single mothers - even junior high school mothers. Everyone has access to free and cheap birth control of 127 different varieties.

And the dirty little secret--on both sides of the abortion debate--is that if Roe gets overturned (as it should, legislation from the bench), the issue goes back to the states.

Guess what? For all the overblown rhetoric about it, abortion is (1) a medical procedure (leaving out the Mengele morality for a moment) and (2) requiring a doctor willing to do it.

In the states likely to ban abortion, ARE there many or even any abortion doctors? What are the odds Idaho or Utah women wanting this have to drive or take the Greyhound down the Sin City Lost Wages or over to Spokane?

And meanwhile, we have states like NY and CA ready to go well into the 3rd trimester, what even the Roe v. Wade decision never sanctioned.

As the late great Scalia stated, as much as he found Oregon's physician assisted suicide law disturbing, it was perfectly constitutional for Oregon to do.

Unfortunately, after several years of a steady diet of how "The Big Three" would make a just and wonderful postwar world, and how valiant "Uncle Joe" was against the evil Nazis, the US and UK publics would not handle the abrupt shift, and the leftist New Deal and Labour simps like Henry Wallace in the USA and Michael Foot in the UK all too often did not.

Orwell WAS wrong about that--the public could not go from "Eastasia" to "Eurasia" in mid sentence.

Worse though?

The B-24 had a set of fuel tanks built into the upper fuselage.

Good cannon or flak hit there, and you're now flying your funeral pyre all the way to the ground.
