Ted Koppel: Trump's Not Imagining Things, The Liberal Media Are Out to Get Him

Obvious, but it's a statement against liberal media interest so it counts more in court.

"I'm terribly concerned that when you talk about the New York Times these days, when you talk about the Washington Post these days, we're not talking about the New York Times of 50 years ago," Koppel noted to journalist and author Marvin Kalb earlier this month. "We are not talking about the Washington Post of 50 years ago. We're talking about organizations that I believe have, in fact, decided as organizations that Donald J. Trump is bad for the United States."

Koppel added that "we have things appearing on the front page of the New York Times right now that never would have appeared 50 years ago. Analysis, commentary on the front page."

So [Trump's] perception that the establishment press is out to get him-- doesn't mean that great journalism is not being done; it is -- but the notion that most of us look upon Donald Trump as being an absolute fiasco, he's not mistaken in that perception. And he's not mistaken when so many of the liberal media, for example, describe themselves as belonging to "the resistance"? What does that mean? That's not said by people who consider themselves reporters, objective reporters of facts. That's the kind of language that's used by people who genuinely believe — and rather suspect with some justification -- that Donald Trump is bad for the United States ... and the sooner he's out of office the better they will like it.

Koppel added to Kalb that "we are not the reservoir of objectivity that I think we were."

49 Think about this - the Post of 50 years ago did a series on Nixon never once mentioning that their chief source was a disgruntled, corrupt asshole who wanted to take Nixon down because he tried to clean up the FBI

The Times of over 50 years ago won a pulitzer for their reporting on how marvelous the soviet potemkin villages were.

I don't think the media was ever a " reservoir of objectivity" as he claims. THEY have not changed, what has changed is that WE have more resources to see the truth and that has pushed them to be more obvious.

Posted by: Muldoon at March 20, 2019 05:29 PM (m45I2)

51 Ted's always been a lightweight. Maybe not by media standards, where dumb is pretty common, but a lightweight. And it's hilarious and ridiculous that he pretends to believe they were a "well of objectivity" or whatever, before.

But there *has* been a marked decline. Matter of degree, not kind, but pretty dramatic in the last few years, and of course especially in the Trump Era.

But the distortion was extreme in the Bush era too. Just not - generally - as ridiculous, histrionic, or systematic. And in reverse, of course, the non-coverage of Obama, his administration's disastrous failures and illegalities - which remain completely unknown to many many Americans to this day - was just as damaging to the country.

59 To me, the turning point seemed to be Fox News. It was like once a non-liberal new outlet had a mass audience, the liberal media collectively decided they had to notch it up.

And they seem to keep cranking it up to where it's now so over the top even a few honest liberals are embarrassed.

The media has been liberal my entire lifetime, but I have to admit I preferred the world where at least put a little energy into looking objective.

I do think though Trump's biggest victory will be how America now looks at the media.

He admits he was always a bad businessman (most artists are) and that Sony got him roped into a deal where they owned his next 5 albums, and he was gonna earn almost nothing. So he told them he wanted to renegotiate that deal, and they said "Too Bad, we got a contract, we Own You."

So he said, "Guess what, you don't own shit, because there ain't gonna be any new albums, you guys enjoy owning 100% of Nothin'. " And I gotta admire him for sticking it to them like that - meanwhile, he's still one of the most popular performance acts today.

Typically, another gray eminence gets it partly right but also utterly wrong.

These "organizations" -- or decomposing aggregates of leftist lunatics living on the fumes of their organizational legacies -- couldn't care less about the United States. They hate Donald Trump because 1. he can't be controlled by them and their power-mongering masters, 2. because he threatens everything they and their power-mongering masters stand for and 3. because he's good for America and they hate America.

The NY Times paper of "record" mission is on behalf of the communist infiltration, and perhaps some big names that were part of it, idk.

Maybe they used to hide it better, and now that they are caught with their pants down, Uncle Ted is trying to explain it away as just a little bias ... "don't worry, we can right this ship, it is just about Trump". Nope ... no hope ... they can't even apologize for the coverup of Ukraine genocide.

MILAN (AP) - A bus driver in northern Italy abducted 51 children and their chaperones Wednesday, threatening them over a 40-minute ordeal before setting the vehicle on fire when he was stopped by a Carabinieri blockade.

Officers broke glass windows in the back of the bus and got all the passengers to safety without serious injury before the flames destroyed the vehicle, authorities said.

As he was apprehended, the driver said he was protesting migrant deaths in the Mediterranean, Commander Luca De Marchis told Sky TG24.

De Marchis told Sky TG24 that the driver, an Italian citizen of Senegalese origin in his 40s, threatened the passengers, telling them that "no one would survive today" as he commandeered the bus carrying two middle-school classes to a nearby gym in Cremona province, some 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Milan.

Trump is bad for the United States."

Koppel is close, but he's still missing the main point ... by 180 degrees. The New York Slimes and Washington Post were never concerned with what was "good for America". Quite the opposite. They always looked to take America down. They printed whatever they thought would hurt America the most.

The New York Slimes and Washington Post are concerned that Trump actually IS good for America - and that pisses them off to no end. They want people like Barky - retards who hate America and want to cut America down to size (if not totally destroy us) - leading things. They don't want someone like Trump, who loves America and is actually working to put AMerica back in its rightful place well ahead of everyone else.

And that's who all you liberals/leftists always forget about.

Sure you got the popular vote. Maybe. Before we make any rash statements, I want to see the voter roles from every state and compare them to some green card lists and asylum lists and a few other things that can help determine if someone is not a citizen.

And now we see why they are so adamant against a citizenship question on the census. Not so much because of any representation shuffling altho that's part of it. No it's because then the country (it's citizens) would have a glimmer of how bad the foreign invasion of our country is. And it's only a glimmer cause a lot of people won't answer truthfully or at all and that's if you can find them. Plus some will get missed.

It's been posited that the margin of Trump's loss in California alone could be the difference on who actually won the so called popular vote.

I don't remember being asked if I wanted to see non citizens vote in my elections. Cause I don't want them to but if they do, they have to pay a price for their non-citizen voting. How about $10,000 to get your registration card? And no welfare or health care for 10 years. And no abuelas getting dragged up here from the old country.

155 I think a big part of Ted Koppel's "coming out" is that he knows long term, this is a bad strategy for both liberal politicians and the media at large.

Having the pretense of "objectivity" gave the media a huge amount of power to set the debate and decide the direction of the country. They were allowed to be the referees. But that's is sailing away.

The media was always the real problem and why Republicans seemed "outgunned" all the time.

Its that they're no longer professionals. They aren't any damned good at their job. They don't understand the news or how to report it. They don't even care.

Back when Sam Donaldson was being a turd stain on the White House lawn, there were structures in place, old grizzled editors, traditions, and professional standards that kept him from going full Acosta. They wouldn't let opinion slip into the news reports, they made sure the lede was the heart of the news story, there was no "hide the party" crap. They would actually report stuff that hurt their own side, reluctantly.

175 I don't care if Koppel likes or hates Trump. I don't care if he things Trump is an embarrassment as a president. He's right about the media's role.

I think he's wrong about they way the press used to be.

Dan Rather reported the Dallas school children cheered when they heard President Kennedy was dead in 1963. CBS was wrong. The kids cheered getting a half day from school before they were told *anything* about the assassination.

CBS News was always doing that kind of shit.

I disagree. I think we didn't have any options to get it right. Just look at what they did to McCarthy and the fucking love affair with FDR.

FDR tried to pack the Court, for the love of God, gave away half of Europe and the press didn't even cover that he was a cripple. They never touched the crap they had to know about JFK and his father. How they covered Vietnam...

If you knew nothing about them except what was in that movie you'd think they were a bunch of choirboys who just stayed home with their wives and kids when they weren't on stage. I think I read that the 3 surviving Band Members were all consultants on the film, and that every element of the script had to run by them, for their approval. Oh, they gave us exactly what they promised-- including cash-- without a hitch.

The key was not being swayed by "4 days in Hawaii with airfare" and "all kinds of properties that aren't resorts."

In fact, they said their partner company had "castle" accommodations. So I made them show me the castles. We went to the big tv in the middle of the room and everything. It was the Big Close.

The castles? They are 800 square foot stone houses built in the 1800s or earlier. Not castles. "Stone Crapshacks" that might not have heat, electricity or plumbing.

Then I asked about Japan. Every hotel they had in "Japan" looked like it could be in "Idaho."

We got cash and a Jeep tour.

328 It was pretty comical how no one in Star Trek had any real expertise in anything - except for Spock. The rest of them did nothing but push a button or two or turn some dials. It was funny.

I loved how they would get when they wee losing someone in the transporter ... keep redoing the sliding of the three sliders over and over and grimace a lot. Expertise. LOL.

The real pros, what few are out there, you never know what their politics are. Back in the early 1980s, the ABC news anchor was a guy named Frank Reynolds. He was a real professional. He just did his job, did not pontificate or anything of the sort. He died in I think '83 or '84 of cancer. And it was not until he died that it came out that Reynolds was a conservative. No one knew, because he never talked about it. That was not what he was there for. Unfortunately it was commie dickhead Peter Jennings that took his place.

347 But there *has* been a marked decline.

It actually got really "over the top", "jumped the shark", whatever by the late 1980s. I watched it happen. Back then I got all the major newsweeklies, daily paper, watched all the alphabets, etc. By 1990 it was so blatant I could not handle it anymore and dropped them all. It was not "news reporting", if it ever was, but only blatant propaganda. And while I didn't think it possible, in the years since it has only gotten worse.
