Speaker of the House of Parliament Tells Teresa May, Stop Sending Us The Same Shit Brexit Deal

The third time will not be the charm.

The speaker of Britain's House of Commons dealt a potentially fatal blow to Prime Minister Theresa May's ailing Brexit deal on Monday, saying the government couldn’t keep asking lawmakers to vote on the same deal they have already rejected twice.

The government intended to try a third time to get lawmakers to back the deal, ideally before May joins EU leaders Thursday at a Brussels summit where she is set to ask the bloc to postpone Britain's departure. May has warned opponents that a failure to approve her Brexit divorce deal would mean a long, and possibly indefinite, delay to Britain's departure from the EU.

Speaker John Bercow scuttled May’s plan, saying that centuries-old parliamentary rules prevent "the same proposition or substantially the same proposition" from being brought back repeatedly for votes in a session of Parliament.

Apparently leaving Brexit with no deal at all now commands a plurality of support in the UK -- 44% back the no-plan plan.

Video of the speaker's statement here.

I've gotta admit, I don't know the details of the "deal" the EU is forcing on May (and which May seems to be complacently accepting), but the details sound terrible. May had previously taken the position that she would rather have no deal than a bad deal, but when the EU proposed a bad deal, she meekly said, "Okay."

This anonymous article from a UK civil servant says the "Brexit deal" is actually a backdoor effort to keep the UK in the EU forever -- but without any voting rights in that organization.

Voters may believe we need [this deal] in order to leave the EU. We do not. They could be fooled by the Prime Minister’s repeated claims that there might be "no Brexit" unless it is passed -- when of course Brexit will happen by default without it under the terms of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act. Voters might also be forgiven for believing that the Withdrawal Agreement settles our future trade relationship with the EU. Not in the slightest. Future trade talks remain just that -- in the future -- while May's "deal" keeps the UK legally shackled to a moribund EU economy which it must attempt to revive with vast sums of British taxpayers' money for an indeterminate number of years.

...

But credit where it's due: EU officials (ably abetted by their British allies) have produced a devilishly clever draft treaty which, if passed, would end Brexit and get Britain ready to board the express train to a United States of Europe.

The political takeover of the UK represented by the Withdrawal Agreement is an audacious attempt to reverse a damning popular vote of discontent with the European Project and provide fresh impetus for the federal superstate that is the EU’s raison d'etre. The EU's triple lock guarantee is so constructed that never again will Brussels be troubled by an explosion of democracy in the United Kingdom. Parliament has one last chance to escape total eclipse -- and it is now, by rejecting the Withdrawal Agreement in its entirety.

Read that article's explanation of the "three locks" shackling the UK as a vassal state of Europe forever. It's hair-raising. This does indeed seem to be a viciously underhanded con by the UK establishment and May to put the UK back into the EU through the backdoor -- and as a vassal state, to boot!

But, at some point, the UK will realize that being a vassal state is even worse than their previous position and ask to be let back into the EU as a full member. But then the EU will demand more fees and also demand that the UK accept all EU laws.

This seems to be the real goal here.

The EU says it won't even continue negotiation for a couple of months -- unless the UK agrees to pay the EU one billion dollars per month of extended negotiations.

Below, Roger Daltrey is baited by a reporter about Brexit, and shuts him the eff down.

Whether that's by another vote or some other means, who knows.

9 Can parliament just introduce a no-deal bill and vote on it? I don't know much about parliamentary procedures for the UK.

Because a postponement will be very similar to the deal being proposed, but even less fair. It will include a billion pound per MONTH penalty on top of other punitive measures.

May wants a bad deal for Britain. If she doesn't get it and asks for a postponement instead, she will ensure a worse deal for Britain.

Personally, I think the can will get kicked down the road and they will get a no-deal BREXIT. The EU wants to make this as difficult and costly is possible to make the three others who are thinking of leaving, think twice.

51 The biggest fly in the ointment for Brexit is the Northern Irish border

In the Good Friday agreement which 'resolved' the sectarian violence in the North, UK agreed never to build a hard border again. its been over a decade and people are used to no border.

If they leave, the EU will INSIST on a hard border

This is it, I think. Britain leaving is bad. Britain leaving and starving is a good outcome. Britain leaving and succeeding is unacceptable. This is about vengeance so as to prevent contagion within the EU.

Britain is also financially critical. A huge amount of financial clearing happens through the City of London. The EU has spent the last several years trying to build parallel clearing infrastructure in France, Germany, Belgium, and Holland but they haven't been successful in doing so. In the event of a "no deal" Brexit, London will still be the financial nerve center of the continent for a goodly while. The EU has even acknowledged this.

Trapping Britain in a bad deal is the best possible outcome for the EU. If they can't and Britain says, "It's not me, it's you" and moves out, Britain remains important and has a strong negotiating position. This is the worst outcome for the EU and I think the British Eurocrats are desperately trying to keep the ship afloat by selling out their people in the name of their internationalist vision.

A successful post-EU Britain is the worst possible outcome.

This is the problem with a Parliamentary form of Government, with no separation of powers like the US system has. May is not only the Head of the Government; she is also the Leader of the Tories in Parliament, so her party cannot introduce anything unless they get her approval. Given her performance, they should dump her, but no one else has enough support to get the job, so they're doing nothing.

That's why it is humiliating for her own party to refuse to back her on her bills. She should resign, but she won't do that either. So, stalemate.

It's meant to keep the UK in the EU, as if nothing had happened, but to also make it a voiceless client state with no say in EU affairs, permanently, as a stern warning to other member states about the terrible punishment that awaits any insolence on their part.

This is Teresa May shamelessly showing her ass, and selling her country down the river for the sake of EU globalist pals.

As more of the smaller countries ... like Greece and Italy ... openly ponder leaving, I think the EU Army becomes more possible - as Germany and France continue to call for one. It may just become the German and French military under a centralized command.

Because that's really all the EU is - Germany and to a lesser extent France ordering around a bunch of smaller satellite countries with the Belgians supplying bureaucratic assistance.

So the press is making a big deal of this, calling it Chlorine chicken and saying how unhealthy it is, and how leaving the EU will result in the UK have third world food supply laws (like the US.)

Problem is, that the US chicken has less salmonella than EU chicken *before* washing, and much lower afterward. Also, this "chlorine" is only 50ppm solution, so more than tap water (4ppm) but nothing at all like household bleach (50,000ppm)

298 Maybe the Monty Python assholes are to blame. They are funny, but perhaps they conditioned the English to be ashamed of their heritage and regard it as absurd. They never address Islam in their movies or skits. Now, they are silent. They started a tradition in English comedy of mocking its own heritage. See Blackadder series 1 & 2. People are really stupid. Maybe most Britons are too idiotic to see this is all humor, and they conclude that Western civilization is evil, based on a satire, and don't critically look at the alternatives. They assume they are superior.

Why is he not in Jail? Why would we continue to support a government that would ALLOW him to do this with no apparent repercussion?

The current Brit Government is proving itself to be dysfunctional, AND not a true ally.

When they have been in the past.

411 Chris is dead right about them wanting "new" voters, esp. in UK under Labor - they admitted that.

As to them importing non-productive workers, I think there is an inherent arrogance that *they* could manage these new peasants and make them a resource. They still have that attitude.

Ultimately, the EU is ruled by a bunch of bureaucrats whos business is to solve problems. They are like the arsonists firemen (very common) who don't see new problems as bad, but as a chance for more OT. They wanted big government, and BG needs clients. That is also very common in the US.

414 As an aside - it's why I chuckle at the "OMG, Japan is soooo toast" chatter - the Japanese have seemingly learned the "do NOT import cheap labor" lesson.

For now.
Posted by: Anon a mouse at March 18, 2019 03:32 PM (6qErC)

They import skilled labor, if they need it, on their terms (English teachers are popular). If it's not skilled work, they invent a robot.

I have a feeling Japan will outlive most of the West.

415 Because that's really all the EU is - Germany and to a lesser extent France ordering around a bunch of smaller satellite countries with the Belgians supplying bureaucratic assistance.
Posted by: NFTG at March 18, 2019 02:56 PM (FDDEY)

That's what they tell themselves, but the EUcrats all seem to be flunkies from tiny countries and are telling Germany and France what to do.

You think anyone elected from there wanted to risk 40 billion pounds of income by being total pricks?

417 Didn't see many Turks in Germany in the mid / late 60s--just lots of Italians and Spaniards

the Turk Swarm began, IIRC, in the 70's. Berlin by the late 70s was New Istanbul ( esp Kreuzberg )

If the Vegas shooter was a white supremacist, we would never hear the end of it. Methinks he's inconvenient to the narrative.

422 Generally, the only answer they can come up with is "The Euro". Why is it of global import, I ask ... "Because it attacks the dollar."

Which is all one really needs to know about Europe.
Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at March 18, 2019 03:29 PM (YJn4J)

The German Mark did a better job of that. The Euro was just for branding.

That is exactly what it is. He put in enough so that anybody could take whatever impression away their heart desired. Which is why the left and the MSM (BIRM) say he is a Trump supporting white nationalist, despite proclaiming himself a PRC affectionado and an eco-fascist.

426 390 Again, with Daltrey though, he probably voted for all the people who put the UK into the EU, he's probably voted for all the people who are opposing Brexit now. And yet he NOW claims he doesn't like it? You made this bed, now sleep in it.

Conventional wisdom, dude.

From maybe 1960 until Thatcher the UK wanted to be in the EEC/EU. That De Gaulle thing said 'non'. The Brits abased their industry, scrapped all kinds of projects unless they had French partners, literally they spread their legs for the French, but the only thing that finally tipped it over was that the collapse of British industry in the '70s made them slaves to World Bank largesse. At this time both sides of UK politics were full-on Euro, Thatcher as much as anyone. The place was an economic basket case. The best music the Brits ever did came out of Thatcher's attempt to dig them out of that hole, but they were still in a hole, and by the time Maggie had got them back on their feet they were still shackled to Brussels.

La, da, la, da, things bumbled along. The Brits got addicted to Saudi oil money, that Sloane Ranger bimbo the idiot PoW had married went off and left with her nominally muz (they liked the high life) boyfriend until their drunken driver, while fleeing paparazzi, hit a tunnel wall in - horrors! - Paris.

Post-9/11 our idiot Bush got them to whack Iraq in the Mideast wasps nest (while muttering Saudi-funded 'religion of peace' garbage) then our Bush got stung and their idiots got our idiot Obama to whack Libya and elsewhere in the African wasps nest.

Suddenly all those hornets were headed north and started stinging in Italy and parts north and suddenly a lot of Europe isn't too happy about being turned into North Sudan.

But yeah, I'm sure all the Brit grandees like Daltrey were perfectly fine with EU membership as long as it looked like it'd save the the green as pleasant land from bankruptcy, but then it's been thirty years of craven suckupitage under Blair and the same grade of 'leadership' under Call Me Dave that we got under Bush 43.

427 Brexit is civil war, the EU is Napoleon and the UK is Haiti. At the turn of the nineteenth century Hatians threw off Napoleonic France's yoke of slavery, and were "deplatformed" from world diplomatic recognition and most access to international trade for decades. About twenty years after their revolution and desperate for economic connections with the outside world, Haitians foolishly accepted French offers of "reconciliation". After winning their freedom with blood, they ended up paying millions in "reparations", and France finished off destroying their future.

428 The UK bank money laundering that is about to be exposed, thank you North Korea and Venezuela, will show shocking levels of corruption and the EU will dissolve quickly after that.

430 The truth is that even if the UK leaves the EU on 29 March 2019 they are still essentially trapped within it - that is, if they wish to do any business on the Continent. Ask Norway and Switzerland about that.

The only way to be free of the EU is for the EU to go away.

Posted by: CatchThirtyThr33 at March 18, 2019 05:04 PM (iYK1L)

431 I'm as pro-Brexit as the next guy, but what, exactly, is the UK going to base it's economy on? Their industry has been hollowed out as most every other country in the West. It's economy is based on dodgy financial services like every other corrupt island nation. It's kind of ironic that the birthplace of the industrial revolution is out of industry.

The problem with socialism is socialism and the problem with capitalism is capitalists.

Yes Asia will take all our technology but none of our ideology, and they'll be better for it. When the world is rebuilt after the collapse of the West it's going to be an Asian world.

434 Frankly I'm pretty chuffed that European elites have so little self-awareness. They think that a United States of Europe will make them the most powerful leaders of the most powerful nation on earth. That is actually enormously amusing. What it will really turn them into is a bunch of laughable clowns in charge of a total economic basket case.
The USA it ain't.
