Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | "Want to See" Rating for NPC-Fave Captain Marvel Plunges to 28%, So Rotten Tomatoes... Deletes The Entire Want-To-See Score From Every Movie On Its Site as a Favor to NPCs and DisneyThe "Want to See" score is just what it sounds like -- a rating of whether people are or are not interested in seeing a movie. Captain Marvel is pushing SJW identity politics, and "star," the flat-assed Resting Bitch Face block of wood Brie Larson can't stop talking about how much she disdains White Men. So the "Want to See" score has dropped a lot in the last few weeks. But don't worry -- Rotten Tomatoes' cowardly leaders are ready to be A HERO for Disney and nuke the rating from orbit. I hear that this Doctor was one of the feminists complaining to Rotten Tomatoes:

Excellent objectivity. I am actually very *very* surprised they did this. If I were in their shoes and wanting to go to this dance, I'd just go into the database and change the numbers to be close to 50/50. Maybe schedule it to take 3-4 days to creep up so it looks organic.

Even without bribing critics, Disney must be spending the wealth of Croesus on this flop. Why? I mean, really? Even if it was set to be moderately successful, it wouldn't be worth this kind of promotional budget. This has simply got to be a favor for someone, somewhere. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, Read Some Movie Thoughts at February 26, 2019 04:35 PM (XSSCs) +++++++++ It might not, but there is something else to consider. When Disney handed Star Wars off to a shit midas, "The Last Jedi" and "Solo" didn't hit their numbers - and they didn't have much if any of the pre-release excoriation that Captain Marvel has gotten (Solo definitely had some). If the opening weekend isn't so great, it isn't the gamer/comic fan types who did it, and that's a good thing. Posted by: Grump928(C) at February 26, 2019 04:35 PM (XAbde) ============== They'll probably end with about $250 million in American and double that overseas for an end of $750 million (that's my guess). Far from the biggest, but around Dr. Strange territory. Marketing is generally double production, so $300 million there. Theaters take, on average, about 40%. So, in order for Disney to turn a profit, they need Captain Marvel to make $500 million total. They'll most likely make a good profit on it. Le sigh... 8 The movie's still gonna make 9 digits in its first weekend.
I'm not so sure about that. The lead up to Black Panther was somewhat cringe inducing but the virtue signaling ("I have to see the movie which stars the first black superhero or I'm racist" see also, the Story of Obama)) overcame the potential drawbacks, plus word of mouth that the movie wasn't terrible probably helped for those who also wished to virtue signal but weren't sure if they could endure a shitty movie. The movie itself wasn't a PC-fest, just some of the actors involved. Captain Marvel looks very much like a crap movie and a virtue signaling shit storm (powerful woman ROAR see also "HIllary Clinton") and I suspect you won't see the same crowds you'd see at an Avengers movie. I suspect you'll get an Antman-esque box office, or less. It won't lose money but I'd love to see it end up the lowest grossing Marvel movie, if for no other reason than to give the finger to social justice marvel. Disney sure has went to Hell since its founder died. I am currently reading Mary Poppins and so far it follows along fairly close to what Disney put in the movie. He did drop some of the sketches in the movie but that was probably due to time constrains.
But few of the Disney movies that have been put out in the last few years have been good. Most of the ones done by another studio and then released by Disney have been OK. Second Hand Lions come to mind on that, it was great movie. Posted by: Vic at February 26, 2019 04:38 PM (mpXpK) 70

Because social justice marvel wants a "strong female" character as the face of the new franchise and they're going to make that happen, no matter how much it costs them and . Thought it came out in a recent interview that they sought out Larson because she is such a vocal feminist, since the project from the get-go was intended to be a very feminist, empowering message thing? Think that's what was what she said in the Marie Claire (or whatever women's mag) interview --- that was conducted by a woman studio exec who was very involved in the project*. Isn't this typically the way all disputes on the equality of standing between male and female is resolved?
Whenever a female discovers some apparent disparity between how males are treated as to how females are treated, immediately the standard at the heart of the problem is changed or done away with. Can't get females to pass First Reponder physical strength tests? Do away with the tests or water them down. Can't get females to pass combat training tests? Do away with tests or water them down while also giving the testees special training prior to the tests. Rinse. Repeat. And the sad thing is that it doesn't help anyone. The females will always have their passing of the tests looked at with skepticism. They will be assumed to have benefited by lower standards. The actual lowering of standards will cause people to die or be injured and our actual preparedness harmed. And all this is driven by our confrontational journalism we've created along with the Educational system that seems to spend most of it's time informing the student of how they're being mistreated by the system and how to get back at it. And the nation is split even further between those who demand equal outcomes and those who use reasonable standards that those who pass will be accepted by. That's a misuse of their system.
Like anything that polls art based on number of people who like or dislike it, it's really just a measure of overall popularity within the population polled, not actual quality. It's no different from the IMDB raking system. Is a movie having 8.9/10 on IMDB a guarantee that you'll love it too? It's the same guarantee that a movie with a 99% on RT will have the same effect. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, Read Some Movie Thoughts at February 26, 2019 04:55 PM ... A while ago IMDB dropped the discussion board section and the review "show by rating" option. I liked it. But yes, almost all of them are 'down' endings. Several of the segments were good, but the movie was too long, and you wound up sitting through several that were annoyingly low on the payoff. As I understand it, the movie was intended to be a Netflix miniseries and wound up being packaged as a movie. Gal Gadot, in my humble opinion, has the goods to become a certified Hollywood Star. She's beautiful, but also graceful. Has an appeal that can reach Mom, Dad, and the Kids. If she hasn't been type-cast, I'd like to see her act in something more serious.

I have never read anything by Cormac McCarthy; If that's his writing style I don't want to read his work. What's the big deal about him?

Posted by: Mr. Peebles at February 26, 2019 05:22 PM (oVJmc) I'll honestly take generic in a comic book movie. It's mass for mass appeal. And for most of the characters they have a defined backstory that you don't want to fuck around too much with. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at February 26, 2019 05:41 PM (AllCR) His books are pretty interesting. His most famous book is Blood Meridian but his best is All the Pretty Horses. Some might call it pretentious and overwrought but his writing style is unique. Particularly in Blood Meridian, on one page he is doing old west vernacular and the next it is more like the King James Bible. I think one of the big deals about him is that he is a recluse that almost never gives interviews or explains his works. He came into the national spotlight with the movies No Country For Old Men and later for The Road. Posted by: Quint at February 26, 2019 05:47 PM (n13/j) 577

502 3 comments on Private Ryan, as a combat veteran with 32 years in uniform:
1. The plot was ridiculous, although it did highlight how much personnel accountability has improved since WWII. After my dad was released from the hospital, he spent 6 weeks trying to get to his unit, catching rides on trucks heading forward to the last place anyone had heard that they were. I have to think that there were thousands like him. 2. The first 20 minutes bothered me a lot. For the next several days I heard the ping of bullets hitting the metal obstacles. 3. The best scene in the movie is when Captain Miller comes to the battalion CP to get the Ryan mission after having just lost his company. He looks around and notices there's one guy shaving and another making coffee. You just know that he is beyond contempt for the headquarters pukes. I hope the technical advisors fought for those few seconds of film, because I can't see a civilian even conceiving what it all means. I'm a long time conserative, a long time comic fan, and I plan on seeing Capt. Marvel. "But the SJWs!" Tony Stark is a hetero white male. So are Steve Rogers and Peter Quill. Tchalla is black but otherwise the same. This may change in the comics but that is temporary and easy to change. Movies are not and I'm only going to panic when Clint Barton starts wearing a skirt.
