35 Reading about Canada's Trudeau cabinet resignations, big upheaval, government in chaos. Gee, I thought only Trump's admin was disfunctional and Europe and Canada were models of stability in comparison. Of course this has always been a lie, obama had massive turnover himself, but MSM tries to make it seem Trump is out of control and his admin is in shambles are all times. Wonder how many "Trudeau poor leader" thumbsuckers we'll see now? Zero, of course. It only applies when Trump admin officials leave.

However, I did come to the conclusion that nothing is as good as renaissance art. Sorta sad really, as if man figured out how to paint, perfected it over really a short amount of time, ie Romanesque/Byzantine to the Renaissance and then all else pales before it. You can stand there and argue meaning and technique and vision, but that's all you're doing, arguing that what you're seeing isn't really what you're seeing.

128 However, I did come to the conclusion that nothing is as good as renaissance art. "

After seeing a Turner exhibition, I fell in love with Turners paintings, especially the later ones, and I really like the way the French Impressionists interpreted the world, with the idea that less realism can be more realistic sometimes. American painters such as Bierstadt and Remington added their interpretations of the New World to the field, and they were wonderful.

But I have to agree, we peaked culturally at the end of the 19th century, and it's been all downhill since. Looks like the same timeline as our politics.

166 "there's real science out there that says that the recent decline in
sunspots, which means less energy output, means we're going to have a 20
to 30 year cold spell coming" ignoramus

and some science is saying the sunspots are related to the (at least two different) magnetosphere cycles in the sun. One is the 11 year we are familiar with ... but another that is from a different depth in the sun on a different cycle, that with the 11 year cycle, can (perhaps) influence the sunspot frequency, and the amount of "solar wind" or cosmic rays.

So maybe it is the cosmic rays affecting our atmosphere and our own magnetosphere, and that changes the "equilibrium" of the whole giant equation?

But then I find WattsUpWithThat looked (2014) and really found no correlation with the minimum sunspots and the cold phases. Yes there were those cold times, just not as lined up as we were told. Hard for me to determine who the "real scientists" are, when NASA was/is adjusting data, to get the warming, to get the money for the globalists, I guess.

In any case, more CO2 is good for us, warmer is much better than colder. But if there is really a planet emergency and we must reduce human CO2 now or die in 2030, then we should nuke China, since they produce twice as much CO2 as US, to save the planet. /s But they are commies, and only want to control US.

192 I don't "hate" photo realism, I just see a movement over time from representational art to crap. "What things looked like before I had lazik" I guess is a valid genre, but I've always thought that Rothko's mother had to have been disappointed. O'Keefe's vagina flowers doesn't seem like a big effort.

199 Went to the national gallery yesterday. I was seriously surprised at how many artists I knew and could identify at a distance.
Posted by: dagny at February 19, 2019 09:42 AM (nRWPy)

This is the arc of the development of all art forms, really. You have the early development, the defining of forms and rules, further development, then a golden age, followed by a slow decline in the quality of the art. I think that while there are an infinite number of ideas to be expressed, there is a finite number of GOOD ones. After the best is achieved, those that consider themselves artists either repeat the past or they try to create "new" art, and it becomes mental masturbation, leading to performance art, which is just a thinly veiled contempt for the consumer and an ego trip for the fartist.

Since they knew they couldn't get there with CO2 alone, they assumed a positive feedback with water vapor. Water vapor provides nearly all the temperature increase in their models.

If this positive feedback were true, the Earth would have already been driven to high temperatures and never recovered sometime in it's 4 billion year history. Plus, empirical data also suggests a negative feedback.

274 199 Went to the national gallery yesterday. I was seriously surprised at how many artists I knew and could identify at a distance.

That, of course, has never been the point.

The Left doesn't want any management of voting, and providing that toe of voter ID could (and probably will) lead to more voter integrity laws passing.

I think they can propagandize voter ID as more destructive than the other measures, though. "I can't vote because I don't have ID," is immediate and understandable.

"I can't vote because I haven't voted in 23 years, moved several times, and never updated my voter registration," is also understandable, but less so.

302 "So bankrupt and corrupt Illinois has proposed taxing private retirement plans to fund public pensions? This will end well."

from my continuing saga titled "Communism is just the mafia with a government Kicker" ...

I'm not really talking textbook/hypothetical communism or even just traditional "mafia". But it is the concept that BigGov takes their "vig" at the point of a gun (or the threat of a gun/prison), and they enrich their own 'family". So they piled up all that debt for them, on our credit cards ... now they are coming to collect.

To the degree government becomes corrupt takers from the real makers, to that degree we have become "communist". There is no Utopian communism, that is the Trojan horse they roll around. There is also no "capitalism" ... there is a nation based in liberty, which has made unconstitutional laws based in bribery and sedition, for the profit of the crooks (communists).

In the end we have to go to the mattresses ... but we can be more strategic than that, if they won't prosecute those that have been running the coup. (IL surrendered to the Chicago coup long ago) They got rich, we got the debt.

I've always imagined a field, owned by someone, with a large, useless rock in the middle.

Someone comes along and offers to but the rock, the owner sells. The rock has been a problem for years, and is happy to get rid of it, pocketing a bit of change in the process.

The rock ends up being useful in the construction of something (a building, and electronic, doesn't matter), and the purchaser uses it to make a lot of money.

The original owner complains, "It was worth so much more than what you gave me!"

"Not to you," the buyer replies.

388 Michigan's new Democommie governor big boobs, Gretchen Whitmer, sabotaged with glee a deal former Gov.Snyder(R) had spent the last year working on before leaving office due to term limits.

Ionia, MI , which has been the site of prisons and penitentiaries since before the civil war, has two old, outdated, closed prisons. One sitting on 47 acres that is falling apart. The company that provides detention centers for illegal immigrants caught by law enforcement so that they are housed until their court dates had an agreement with the state of Michigan to renovate the old Ionia prison into a modern detention center, agreeing to spend millions on it and providing 250 plus jobs to a small, economically devasted community( since the closing in 2009 of the current prison facilities).

Whitmer torpedoed they project yesterday by demanding that "any immigrants who claim they were separated from their families must immediately be released into the community". An impossible demand, since that would violate federal law and she knows it.

She is crowing about it today, as she says "separating families is not a Michigan value".

See the following Detroit Free Press opinion piece that shreds Whitmer's statements and attitudes.

Thank you Michigan potheads for helping get this idiot elected.
The morons can google a pic of Whitmer's state of the state address so you can see why I call her "big boobs". What is it with liberal female Democrats that they need to be in stretched spandex outfits why screaming "me Too"?

A little bit of reality as to why Kaiser Wilhelm is so upset - a lot of NYC's budget is funded by high taxes on hotel occupancy (gouging the tourists) which current hotel owners don't mind paying because they have the ability to charge very high rates, because NYC uses its regulatory ability to sharply restrict the supply of new hotel rooms. (ie, creating a government enforced shortage which jacks prices up, allowing government to harvest some of the surplus) You don't have to be a savant to imagine that Blahsio gets quite a lot of his contributions from people who are raking in the cash from this scheme.

And along comes AirBNB, like a skunk at a garden party, threatening to blow the whole scheme up by allowing visitors to pay *actual* market rates, not artificially-jacked-up-by-the-government rates. No wonder everyone who's in on the scheme is pissed, and wants to stop them.

and who cares if the lower rates would actually bring in a lot more tourists to NYC, increasing the total amount of goods and services greatly. De Blahsio and his allies aren't set up to cash in on that, so to them it means nothing.

Leftist blah blah blah always comes down to good old fashioned corruption when you trace it to the source.

Set up a poll asking if the base thinks this is a good idea or not. The cat is out of the bag and it is now a "news" story so let us openly discuss the matter. Should we kill the current Political Class and replace them with another or do we just kind of drift along with what we have as we circle the drain. Do we take off the gloves and clean house and drain the swamp or do we just keep going the way we are going? We need to make the choice.

Last time I was in Egypt I stayed in a really nice hotel in Heliopolis not far from the presidential palace. This was a very nice neighborhood, for Cairo anyway.

The heavily armed guards at the hotel would not let me go out after dark for a walk by myself. They told me "the beards" were watching and I would not be safe.

Egypt is ground zero for the birth of modern Islamic radicalism. I have zero interest in returning.

She was in a crowd during the Arab spring with her bodyguards (3) and her producer. She got separated from them, then started getting grabbed by men. They started hitting her with flagpoles, etc. and started tearing her clothes off. She was punched , beaten, then was penetrated by fingers both vaginally and anally. She estimated the attack went on for almost forty minutes until a group of Arab women got her dragged out, which at that time she was completely naked, her hair had been pulled almost separating it from her scalp and she ended up in the hospital for over a week. I believe she ended up having to have surgery to repair tears to either her vagina or rectum or both.

We need to stop trying to be so delicate in describing what happens to people in riots, rapes, etc. People need to be hit with the hard shocking facts because it's no joking matter.

That's because the left constantly has to change the meaning of words. So, they cannot be defined because someone could reference what the word meant. Racist was a made up word that originally seemed to mean someone of one race that hated everyone of another race. Now, it can mean someone that is not black, or someone that still recognizes the differences between races. Or, someone that is still so primitive that they think there are only two genders.

It's a shame because everyone who wants to should be able to visit some of the most important historical artifacts on the planet but a significant percentage of the population are crazed animals. Every street corner in Cairo has at least one heavily armed guard, vehicles are constantly scanned for bombs and you never feel truly safe when out in public.

You can avoid NYC's high hotel rates. Stay in NJ, and ride the many buses into Manhattan. I know its a thrill to just walk out into the streets of Manhattan, but as former college student at NYU, I lost that thrill long ago.You can park on Staten Island (after paying toll to get there) park and take the ferry over, which is a cheap thrill.
