HERE IS A MAN

From Twitter, via Vee on YouTube, here's a story of a Male Feminist Ally on a date.

The Feminist Male Ally is HUGE fan of Gamergate troll and formerly relevant person Anita Sarkesian (@femfreq or Feminist Frequency) -- a nigh-psychotic feminist who rants endlessly about anti-feminist "tropes" in videogames, like female characters being attractive and having breasts.

This guy ruins a date because he can't stop talking about feminist and gay-friendly tropes in TV shows and Anita Sarkesian's entire oeuvre.

Meanwhile the poor woman is like, "OMG, what a sissy drip, he's going to start menstruating any second and then we'll be cycle sisters.*"

Sean Conklin

@SeanyConks

@femfreq ruined my date the other day in the best way possible: a thread #thisispositiveipromise

Met this woman on @hinge and we hit it off. She is a music teacher and I love music and work with kids myself. We seemed to be getting along well. I asked her out, we were going to go to the nature center but the weather turned, so we hit the local video arcade with vintage games

I am 99.98% sure that going to an arcade was his mantention, not hers. You'll see why later.

We had a good time. It wasn't Earth shattering, but good enough to merit a second date. We decided to get ice cream after work one day. We got our ice cream and walked around and talked for about an hour.

The plaza we were in had a movie theater in it that we both frequent so naturally TV and movies came up. She mentioned #Frasier and I told her I often rewatch #Cheers and Frasier and that I love old shows, especially cheers.

Note she said she likes Frasier and he says he likes both Cheers and Frasier.

So that means that he could easily talk about the show she likes.

He's a Male Feminist Ally so of course he'll do just that.

Spoiler Alert: NOPE. He's going to ignore the thing she says she likes to babble endlessly about the thing he likes, all the while patting himself on the back as a Nice Guy Feminist Who Really Hears Women's Voices.

I then began to talk about a specific episode of #Cheers, my favorite episode in which one of Sam's baseball buddies writes a book and comes out as gay in it. Sam openly supports him and the men at the bar become concerned that the bar will become a gay bar.

I know when I go on first dates I always make a point of bringing up feminism and gay bars. It gets da bitches randy. It really puts the fizz in the snizz, IYKWIMAITYD.

Diane challenges them and says that gay men come in the bar all the time, but they just don't know it. Then men are adamant that they would know a gay guy if they saw one. She tells them there are two gay men there and if they can tell her who they are shell be quiet

The men go on and make complete fools of themselves using outdated (even for the time) stereotypes of gay men to try to determine who it is. And they are proven wrong in the end. It was a powerful social commentary that is still relevant today, almost 30 years later

Does this soyface retard realize all this woman heard for the past ten minutes is "gay, gay, gay, gab bar, gay men, gay, gay stereotypes, powerful social commentary"?

Maybe he does. Maybe he thinks this is impressing her, or maybe "Telling her I am not a sexual threat at all."

That's a weird thing that these Male Allies are concerned with.

My date was not as interested in it as I was...

No shit. Well, then, I'm sure he will switch to a different sort of conversation to find something she might be interested in.

...so I explained that because I watched @femfreq and the tropes vs women videos...

Jesus Christ just shook his head and said, "Oh, Me."

... as they came out and I was in college, I developed a critical eye using feminist critique and that's why I like that episode so much.

Say, you know who's got a really good critical eye?

Tim Gunn.

Make it work, Conan the Ass-Slayer.

She then asked me if viewing movies and TV that way ruined it for me.

I don't know how this woman could have signaled "I find this entire topic boring and you refusal to move off of it selfish bordering on monomaniacal" any harder except by shooting you right in the fucking face with a bullet etched with the words SHUT THE FUCK UP FEMMY GEEK.

It was an odd question, one that i know is lobbied at the women in @femfreq constantly. When I told her that it didn't ruin it, just made me view it differently, she was not about it.

Well! Finally he sees she's not interested in his obsession, so finally he's stop Mansplaining Feminism to her and move on to a different subject!

I mentioned some of the topics of the tropes v women videos

Oops no he's just going to try to tickle her fancy with other Anita Sarkesian topics.

...not even daring to go into the other amazing things those women do with that organization, and she was getting visibly frustrated.

FINALLY HE GETS IT! NOW he'll talk about something more normal, like raping horses.

I didn't even tell the content, just the topic.

Sorry, I was wrong. His only adjustment was to start giving her Anita Sarkesian Bullet Points instead of Anita Sarkesian Essays.

I was trying not to force my opinion

And doing a fantastic job, too, Mansplainer.

Question: Can you actually mansplain if you're not technically a man?

There must be an award-winning Ph.D. paper on this subject somewhere.

Okay, now that he's finally gotten it, he can ask her, "So, what interests you?," right?

Spoiler: NOPE.

At one point I said something like "it depends on the context of the game. If you have a war game and a woman is running around in a bikini and shooting guns, does that really make sense?" She said something like "well was the charachter designed to be arousing?"

He's complaining about girls in videogames wearing bikinis, like a total soywad.

She says, "Well, I don't know, maybe sexy girls in bikinis could be a valid choice if that suits the creator's vision."

You know -- expressing a normal, healthy relationship not just with sex but with men's desire for sex.

In other words, saying, "I'm not a weirdo or a puritan or a total spazz and maybe might make a nice sexy girlfriend."

I'm sure this rancid bag of estrogen will finally see that the purpose of a date is to find a mate, not talk about Anita Sarkesian with an unwilling partner. I'm sure he will finally see this as a positive opportunity.

It was going badly for both of us.

Nope!

This was a huge philosophical difference, yes, but also a intellectual difference. We thought of the world in drastically different ways. There was a point in our conversation she was mid sentence and just stopped and said "ok"

Holy shit -- this guy finally picked up on a verbal cue. Maybe he's finally learning about male-female interactions.

Spoiler Alert: NOPE.

Then we started talking about #TheLastJedi and there was no going back.

So he takes her to an arcade, starts spitting Anita Sarkesian video games criticism in her face for an hour, and now they're talking about The Last Jedi.

Does anyone think that she is actually choosing any of these topics here, or is this boorish, manterrupting nerd just bulldozing her and insisting they talk about whatever Spazz Topic pops into his Spazz head?

Just so you know: It's the latter.

She hated Luke, I loved Him. It was over. The end. No way to save that budding relationship. We haven't spoken since. It was a week ago.

Ladies: He's single...

So that's how @femfreq ruined my date. It was good though, because not only did it show me her opinions on feminism, but it also showed me she wasn't willing to discuss it with someone and have a serious conversation. #NotCompatible #thankyoufemfreq #thankyouforcomingtomytedtalk

I'm seeing a vision of the future, and it involves the world's first documented Male Cat Lady, dying alone and unloved and unnoticed, surrounded by forty half-feral cats who proceed to devour his corpulent yet youngish corpse over a period of thirty days.

And then I'm seeing this squalid apartment, and the next people who move in.

And I'm seeing a couple sit bolt upright in the middle of the night as they hear a ghostly voice moaning: There should be more empowered, nonsexualized female characters in triple A game titles...

* "Cycle Sisters" stolen from Julie Kelly, who also calls them "The PMS Caucus." She's referring to the leftwing Democrat trolls who wore white (like Klansmen) to the State of the Union.

Weird Inversion: In a way, I almost want to applaud this guy as a Hero, because he is utterly unapologetic about bulldozing over anything this Stupid Inferior Woman wants to do or talk about, and insisting that they only things they can talk about are the things he, the Superior Masterful Male, wants to talk about.

Meanwhile, we non-Male Feminist Allies totally cuck out on dates and try to listen to what the girl says and take what she says seriously and talk about the topics she proposes or seems to express interest in.

So in a weird way, this Soyboy Beta Cuck is more of a Thuggishly Domineering Male that we pussies can ever dream of being. I mean, he's basically a Mack truck with a cow-catcher just blasting over Women's Voices like Mad Max at the end of The Road Warrior.

On the other hand, he has an advantage we don't:

I'm not sure he actually gives a shit about sleeping with women.

That takes a lot of the pressure off, right there.

47 We have a lot of snow in the area the company I work for covers. Had a customer call in because a tree was leaning on the phone line to their house. The phone company handles that but we can call in a repair ticket for him. He asked if we could send our "tree removal team" out. That's highly amusing because we have three field techs and none of them take down trees for customers. If that guy was a manly man, he'd be out there with a chain saw, taking it down himself. Instead, they called again this morning, wanting to know when someone would come out and save them.

75 I think the biggest mistake men (and some women) make with women is that they don't really listen. Oh they hear them and they may even remember what they said but mostly they're thinking of other stuff while she's talking.

Ask any woman and you'll find that they're shocked when some man they met remembers something they said at that time. I've knocked a few of them speechless. So I'm guessing most guys don't remember. And I'm absorb it so they can repeat it back and have it come up in a conversation.

Well, not that there is anything wrong with being gay and playing ball (heh) for the Red Sox. Sounds typical for Red Sox, to me, actually.

Surprisingly, most women don't really want to talk about "gay" men issues too much, unless it is about a friend who is "gay".

I do know that waiters basically ignore her, which pisses me off. Whenever they ask 'how is your food', they ask me, never ask her and never wait to see what her response is.

Probably her best moment is when she's trying to quit smoking, and she walks in and while trying to say goodbye to smoking, she gives this extremely long erotic description of the glories of that first smoke in the morning, and it so good and so luscious, that when it's over everyone listening to her (and that includes the viewers) are dying to rush outside and light up a cig as fast as they can.

198 Cheers was weak with Diane in it overall, she was unlikable and annoying. I get why she was there, it made sense on paper: the awkward person out of place in the bar, the intellectual among regular Joes, and the voice of "reason" where everyone is silly. But she just came across as prissy and annoying and the humor rarely worked with her. Kirstie Alley was not only much, much, MUCH hotter but more interesting.

That's a thing I don't like about football: the over-specialization. The same guys on both teams should have to play until the ball is turned over twice - no substitutions. Your offense become your defense, and you can't substitute until you go on offense again.

Writing has done that for me. I have a hard time reading or watching something just for the enjoyment because I'm constantly breaking down scenes and dialogue and description for why they did it and what worked and what should have been different, and how this scene failed or this one was so well done. I have very selective recall, and it does not include movies or any pop culture. I can watch a movie, and five minutes after it's over, I cannot tell you the plot, simply because subconsciously I don't think it's worth remembering. I remember lots of other things (e.g., AW Mn 54.945 amu), but not movies, etc.

My wife laughs at times someone mentions a movie, I draw a blank, and she reminds me that we've seen that movie. I could watch the same movie over and over again with zero recollection of ever having seen it before.

It's actually a pretty good first two dates.

Arcade gives you something to do so there's not the pressure of coming up with conversation the whole time and it is a fun activity so if someone likes video games you are starting from hey this is going to be fun!

Ice cream after work is the same low key low pressure somewhat time limited activity that if it goes well can turn into I know we had dessert first but how about grabbing a drink and maybe an appetizer.

Writing has done that for me. I have a hard time reading or watching something just for the enjoyment because I'm constantly breaking down scenes and dialogue and description for why they did it and what worked and what should have been different, and how this scene failed or this one was so well done. Its partly how my brain works, it won't stop analyzing but partly just the work has changed how I view stories and think about them.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 12, 2019 01:34 PM (39g3+)

I do the same thing, but also with philosophy and theology.

Frequently I cannot enjoy movies or games because I take umbrage with the in-show/game religion, culture, or the character's outlooks on life, death, the universe and everything in between. I have to take the damned thing apart and head-canon it into squaring with what I feel is (a. more consistent with the character thus far developed, and (b. comports with reality.

Basically, I've pinned myself into this area where the idea of a universe at peace or outside the *real* God is just fundamentally unworkable (obvious truth), and therefore in-media events and "happily ever after" or "what happens in the future?" questions must take this into account, or I grow restless and irritated.

I have a hell of a time every time I log in to Destiny 2. Someone help me.

It's funny - my recall is extremely selective.

Once, back in the day, the department had an old PDP-11 we used for word processing. I'd occasionally been gone for most of a month on seminar tours, and could always come back and log in. No problem.

Then the department decided to junk the PDP-11, and shoved it out onto the loading dock to be taken away. Two days later, they changed their minds, and brought it back.

I could not remember my login credentials to save my life. The grad students thought this was the funniest thing ever. Subconsciously all that info had been wiped from my HD. Like with a cloth.

525 My fundamental problem with this:

Who in their right mind DOCUMENTS THIS TO THE UNIVERSE?

What is wrong with this generation? The solution to your problem isn't some form of group-validation. Any and all of you "tweeters" who live like this have to pull out, for you are auguring in.

TALK to a few buddies. If your buddies don't say "DUDE, YOU ARE A TOTAL WUSS- WHY WOULD ANYONE DATE YOU?" then you need new friends. You are living in an echo chamber of effeminates. That's bad enough, but... again... do *not* expand your circle to The Whole Universe.

This shit is forever. You can't remove this kind of thing. This mental-defective doesn't even realize that he is leaving a trail of breadcrumbs pointed directly at his own doom.
