Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Economy Stalls Out and Crashes During Shutdown, Adding a Mere 304,000 Jobs in MonthWomp womp. The NeverTrumpers and liberals (but I repeat myself) were hoping for a bad January jobs report. Isn't that strange that super-conservative, super-patriotic NeverTrumpers are always hoping for what's worse for America, just to win their insipid Twitter arguments? Oh well. Womp womp. Eat a dick, traitors. Learn to code -- you won't be grifting in your current roles for much longer. The economy added 304,000 jobs in January, according to data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics -- far more than the 165,000 that economists had predicted. The surge in hiring comes despite the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, mounting concern about a global economic slowdown, and a lack of key economic data being generated while some government agencies were not fully operational. The nation's unemployment rate ticked upward to 4 percent and wage growth held steady at 3.2 percent. The shutdown appears to have had little impact on job growth, partly because President Donald Trump approved back pay for furloughed government workers, which means the 800,000 employees who worked without pay were still included in the jobs count. Trump must live in their heads 24/7, just driving them crazy. Delicious.

Justice Ginsburg is not in the office today, again.
She has been asked by detectives in the Chicago Police Department to assist in solving the Jussie Smollett case. It's not unusual for Justice Ginsburg to be engaged by police as a consulting detective on especially baffling and difficult cases. Her peerless powers of observation and analysis and her personal familiarity with life among the demimonde place her in great demand as a master detective. Justice Ginsburg will often employ disguises -- for example, as a homeless syphilitic drug-addicted homosexual male prostitute -- in order to learn of tips on the street that might crack a cold case. Her plan in this case is to catch white redneck Trump supporters in the act of attacking inner city blacks by herself posing as a gay black man in the 'hood' seeking sexual street encounters in the so-called 'rough trade.' Justice Ginsburg has therefore gone undercover on the mean streets of Chicago's toughest neighborhoods in blackface and wearing a MAGA hat in order to develop leads on the attackers of Mr. Smollet. She said she is bringing case files with her to her cardboard box under an overpass and from time to time will pass her rulings to a clerk in a manner as if they are transacting a drug deal. There was something very interesting in the holiday sales records this year. They were reported as only increasing something like 5% over the previous year. Healthy. But when I looked at the previous years numbers they had in actuality increased by over twenty percent. Twenty percent would explain a lot of new hiring in January. Five percent not so much. I would love to see how our labor force participation rate is trending. Because it almost sounds like all of those people that O's defenders told us for years were permanently out of the work force are rejoining the work force, which is kind of exactly what we said would happen if job creation took off... hmm... But that can't be. The economists all said it was impossible. On the flip side, they also said we'd only create 165,000 jobs this month, and they turned out to be, well, slightly off. So a lot of FedGov employees do that (probably while theyre at work.) So the fedgov employees say, "yeah, but a person with a masters degree makes more money then someone with an associates degree in the private sector, so we should get paid more!" and the response is "yeah because no one in the private sector is going to pay you more because you have a masters in public policy.
This is another one of those neocon / NeverTrumper lies that we all bought at the time.
That these "free trade deals" make "everyone richer." ... Posted by: Harry Paratestes at February 01, 2019 12:13 PM (GBteo) +++++++++++++ They *should.* They should cause realignment and transitional unemployment, but not structural unemployment. So what the hell happened? I think there were three really big factors: 1) Free trade was unidirectional - we'll take anything, they'll take some things. The globalists insisted that this didn't matter. It did. 2) Currency manipulation allowed massive trade deficits to extend for longer than they would be able to in a free market. Synthetically cheap or expensive currencies. That we have the reserve currency is a double-edged sword in this respect. 3) Government spending. This helped drive point 2. When you have too much foreign currency (more needed for trading), it needs to be repatriated. This is done through asset purchases. When the government is all too happy to sell you treasuries, this becomes nearly frictionless and permits massive, sustained current account deficits *and* massive fiscal deficits simultaneously and for long periods of time - something that was never accounted for in the original trade models. It destroys your government fiscally (100% of GDP debt, for example), but it can be maintained for a very long time. The free-traders weren't exactly wrong - it *should* have worked like they said it would. But everyone except the US cheated outrageously (and we cheated in some areas, too, especially agriculture), currencies never really floated with many of our East Asian trading partners, and the government filled in the hole in the trade deficit with fiscal deficits. They weren't wrong about the mechanisms, they were wrong in the related assumptions. But they were not willing to admit that they were wrong, and kept doing it in pursuit of The Globalist Dream (tm), at the expense of Western workers. I used to be one of them. It took me years to finally accept that I was wrong not because the math didn't work but because the people didn't. Globalism will work only if all prerequisites are met, and they never will be. I see it as sort of like Socialism in that regard - it doesn't match reality. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at February 01, 2019 12:22 PM (I2dne) 194

It also ignores paragraph breaks, so if I don't remember to do a shift/return all my text runs together. It also triple paragraph breaks anybody's comments I copy, so I need to remove those paragraph breaks so they look normal. Pale Moon and Chrome have no such issues. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at February 01, 2019 12:22 PM (I2dne) Sure. Well, again, the math only works if we hold a very variables constant: 1) regulatory and tax environments -- we have to assume both Country A and Country B are similar in this respect. 2) Monetary policy -- again, need to be similar. 3) Actual, you know, free trade -- it can't be a one way street. Our "free trade deals" are thousands of pages long -- it's all negotiated. "If you buy our soybeans with tariffs, we will not put tariffs on your steel" (or whatever.) This isn't free trade, which doesn't require any agreement. Free trade is just a policy of keeping tariffs and barriers of entry low. 4) NO GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES. (We do it, too. But this distorts the market in a major way.) ...and there are probably a lot of other variables that don't immediately come to mind. Like it works in theory, on paper, but in the real world, there are just too many ways to "cheat" a "free trade agreement" so that it is more beneficial to one party. Well, again, the math only works if we hold a very variables constant:
1) regulatory and tax environments -- we have to assume both Country A and Country B are similar in this respect. ... Posted by: Harry Paratestes at February 01, 2019 12:28 PM (GBteo) +++++++++++ This is a biggun, and I left it out. It is a major structural disparity. Free trade theory assumes transitory disparities, but these ones tend to be sticky. If both partners have something approaching labor and environmental parity (those are the big ones, taxes are less so but still a significant factor). This is why essentially free trade between us and Canada works reasonably well and does benefit both sides in general - we're essentially the same country where it counts economically. On the environmental front, this is something leftists do *not* understand - NIMBYism is endemic in their environmental thought process. Their iPhone manufacturing causes loads of pollution. In China. But since it isn't here, it doesn't exist. Their electric cars cause plenty of emissions. At the power plant. But since it isn't at the tailpipe, it doesn't exist. I do not understand super rich guys finding a trophy wife of stunning beauty and class, then running off to hump someone else. Why... I just don't comprehend it. Are these women uniformly awful people or something? Are they boring and obnoxious? I used to be one of them. It took me years to finally accept that I was wrong not because the math didn't work but because the people didn't. Globalism will work only if all prerequisites are met, and they never will be. I see it as sort of like Socialism in that regard - it doesn't match reality.
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) Kudos. Applause. The thing was, our competitors/adversaries, etc never had any intention of "playing fair" regarding trade. This is, in part, what our intelligence agencies are supposed to find out, and brief the Executive. Perhaps they did, and were ignored. I suspect that in part. There are some investment people that made a lot of money on the chimera of "free trade". They were doughty capitalists! But were, in the end, selling America "short", betting on the decline. Much handwringing all around, but in the end, that's what they did. As a footnote to history, Joe Kennedy Sr. pretty much "made" the family fortune by buying and selling "short" during the Great Depression. Betting against America was shrewd, but hardly what I would call admirable and honorable under the circumstances. But....he was the Founding Father of the Kennedy wealth. So it's all good, and it has all happened before. I'm sure there are a number of very wealthy "patriots" who have profited from the alleged "free trade" regime who now loathe Trump. And that's where the Quisling Cucks get a lot of their money. Investment in returning to "the decline". Great Americans!!! The other clinic that does them is in Albuquerque. I guess in an age where people are lauded for deciding their sex is wrong and told they are so brave to mutilate themselves I should not be surprised that these full on infanticide clinics are not for drug addicts who are too stoned to grok reality but for psychotic rich folks who deny reality for months, but damn that is a gut punch.

Just getting around, without walking or riding a frigging LymeBike on the bike lane that was a car lane for the century before, is dysfunctional. Population has increased inside the city by 30% since Bezos exploded, yet these "leaders" eliminated half of the car lanes in the busiest Avenues through the city. The result is complete breakdown of traffic flow in the city, nearly every afternoon. Bezos had the leaders of Seattle wrapped around his finger. Yeah but all these jobs were just laid off govt employees finding part time work. Uhm no imbeciles. The jobs report includes jobs created and jobs eliminated. So someone getting laid off and then finding a new job counts as 0 jobs created, not as 1 job created. Posted by: Lurking Lurker at February 01, 2019 12:56 PM (xyuKr) 430

Nothing would cause more schadenfreude than all the feces and needles from San Fran spilling over into San Jose, Santa Clara, Cupertino, etc...
Posted by: Hikaru at February 01, 2019 12:41 PM (UnA8+) The needles (and the people who use them) are already present in St. James Square in San Jose, it's only a matter of time until the feces starts showing up. Posted by: Surfperch at February 01, 2019 12:46 PM (kK4qb) Thus confirming my long held suspicions that SoCal is full of nothing but shitty pricks. Posted by: Warai-otoko at February 01, 2019 12:49 PM (AURKQ) San Jose is technically in NorCal, but that doesn't make much of a difference. The real sting comes from the fact that the County Court House is located just across the street from from St. James' Square. Posted by: Surfperch at February 01, 2019 12:57 PM (kK4qb) 434
What difference at this point does it make how much the RNC raises when Dem billionaires rain money into races?

Felonia outspent Trump by 3 to 1. The Rs need the cash, but it ain't all about money.
Posted by: Calm Mentor at February 01, 2019 12:53 PM I'm not so sure that's valid. Hillary had some scam going where she overpaid for stuff, then sought a refund. right ... in a Bannon interview with Bass ... (or maybe another, I forget) ... they mention that. The US "zeitgeist" (or whatever) is more about individual liberty. China is more about The State, all for the state, nothing against the state. (maybe individuals don't think that way, but they are forced to comply). So it is always economic war for them. But imo the easy money (voodoo economics) and deficit spending was never merited, never good theory. Greenspan warned in 1994 (?) about irrational exuberance ... but Easy Al always gave in to greasing the skids for Wall Street gamblers. The "Greenspan Put" was underwritten by America itself, as we went deep in debt and they became billionaires. TARP and $4R QE and ZIRP propped up globalists, the homeowners took it on the chin, so did savers. Now everyone is talking "reset" or "debt jubilee" ... idk, but the globalists have trillions to buy up DC and get their way. Posted by: illiniwek at February 01, 2019 12:59 PM (Cus5s) 444
