Why, it's as if men and women are different! I am glad that we have very few women working as electricians and tree trimmers and construction workers and a host of other occupations in which physical strength and agility play a role. Denying that is insanity, and endangers everyone. Think of the 120 pound woman cop who either requires the assistance of larger and stronger men to do her job, or requires deadly force in its absence! We used to celebrate those differences, but now we must deny biology and traditional culture in service to...what? Of what benefit to society is there if more women go into trades that will get them killed or injured at a rate close to that of men (probably higher)? How does that improve our lot? If my house catches on fire I want the firemen who respond to be young, fit, strong men who can save me and my family as quickly and as safely as possible. I do not want a woman with less upper-body strength and less athletic ability to try to save us just because of some insane policy of "equality." Equality of death seems to be a sub-optimal goal.

It’s tough because session are weekly and they’re uncovering more landmines. Prayers for successful treatment and also for strength. PG who is trying to be a support but isn’t trained in EMDR 1/26-chrjp-Recovering slowly from neurosurgery but very tired and sometimes sitting up is all he can do. Clinical trial through NIH was not successful as tumor is growing too rapidly. Trying to find another treatment option that offers some hope for which he may be eligible. This week he asks for God’s help in choosing a path forward to get treatment and he and wife can find hope for future 1/30-Backwards Gal is back home (has been for a two weeks or so) after scary blood pressure drop and transfusion , B Guy thanks everyone for their prayers, He didn’t ask for this prayer but I am. He’s having financial issues because of gigs being cancelled. Please pray for that situation as well. Thanks.

He was getting it drained and another injection but please pray for healing for him 1/30-Fenelon asks for prayers for D, a member of her congregation, who has had major problems since the summer, has no job and needs money. He didn’t get the job he interviewed for and is really depressed. 2/1-Lin-Duh suffered a miscarriage after an unexpected pregnancy. Please continue to keep her in prayer for God’s strength and comfort

This was Twitter's reaction to my suggestion that a hack journalist knew absolutely nothing about American history. She suggested that tariffs were something new for Republicans, rather than one of the main planks of the "American System," which has been around since...oh...men like Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun and John Quincy Adams supported it! I'm no journalist, but that makes it 200+ years old.

I have no problem with women fire fighters, as long as they have to pass the same physical tests as the men. I used to be on a fire fighting team. We had to drag a 200 lb dummy down three flights of steel stairs in a "smoke house". Most women can not do that.

The federal budget up until they passed the income tax was provided by three things. Tariffs, taxes on liquor and luxury goods, and direct allocation of funds from the States. Tat helped to limit the power of the federal government.

Once again, it's hard for me to get worked up about Twitter, since I hate it, think it's a total cesspool, and that every conservative who is on it is simply putting effort into supporting our enemies.
Fortunately, Twitter itself is working as hard as it can to put my wishes into effect, whether it's few remaining conservative users like it or not.

Re: women in dirty/outdoor employment . . . I worked for Purolator Courier (like Federal Express, but without A/C in the trucks) for several years. The women were all five feet tall and five feet wide, wore comfortable shoes and short hair, and probably had softball equipment in their cars, if you know what I mean. They were pretty strong (if overweight), but then we rarely had to lift anything heavier than twenty pounds anyway.
Once or twice an attractive young woman would be hired, usually near the holidays. Even as package sorters they didn't last long.
Bottom line: A dirty, sweaty job, and it was mostly men.
Where are those woman garbage collectors? Ha. Didn't think so.

Purely anecdotal - HS teammate of jr mouse's dad (hey, that's awkwardly worded, no?) taught at FFX county fire training center back in the 90s. Showed a group of us the "new" standards for women pushed by the council... to be blunt, at my now advanced age of... 29 and a half, I could beat those standards.

I had a woman who wanted to work a physically demanding piece of equipment for the same pay as the man who worked it before her. But she also wanted to be able to take men away from their piece of equipment 50 times per day to help her.
That's not equality.

Tariffs were a big part of the system because (a) the federal government was funded with excise taxes such as tariffs, and (b) there was a desire to protect American industry from established overseas competition (mostly British) for economic and national security reasons.

I have no problem with women fire fighters, as long as they have to pass the same physical tests as the men. I used to be on a fire fighting team. We had to drag a 200 lb dummy down three flights of steel stairs in a "smoke house". Most women can not do that.

Tariffs are also a necessary corrective measure, at times.
If a foreign government is subsidizing its industries to gain a competitive advantage, you can use a tariff to remove that advantage.
Otherwise you get tons of cheap Chinese crap and your domestic producers driven out of business, which is a major strategic threat in industries like steel. The last thing you'd want in a war is to be dependent on imports.

We have a higher risk tolerance and it's often quicker and more convenient to just do it than to go through the checklists and go fetch all the protective gear and fill out the permits. Just fucking do it, get it over with and move on.
I'm a supervisor, have been since 2015, after I got bent in my spinal cord the second time after a 280 foot gas dive. You can pile safety glasses and gloves and fireproof clothing and face shields and what all and which ever in front of guys and if you don't make them, and they haven't been hurt or seen someone else hurt, They. Will. Ignore. It. You will have to tell them, constantly, to wear the stuff and sign the JSA for the job they're doing. In some cases you have to threaten to run people off to get them to do it, and then maybe actually do it to someone to make everyone else get the goddamn message.
It's convenience. Many guys will tell a Sweet Young Thing researcher who doesn't know shit that, yes, of course, I felt pressured by The Boss or whoever, and in many cases that's true. But in a *lot* of cases, it's simply they can't be arsed to follow the checklist.

When I was in the Navy you could work live equipment. But working a live 480V Bus was strictly controlled requiring a huge amount of safety features so in 5 years at sea I only saw it done once.

I find it hard to believe that it's illegal to work on energized electrical equipment in Canada. There are times when doing so is absolutely required, in fact. We even have an electrical standard in the US that addresses how and when one works on this equipment. It's called NFPA 70E and much of my job is governed by it.

A brief history of American tariffs, that's a little bit different than what either side thinks about them:
When America was young, she produced mainly crops and raw materials. Finished, value added products were all produced in Europe, mostly England, where the big new factories were. America wanted to protect and encourage the development of an industrial economy, so Tarrifs were used both to raise money and to give new factories a big boost up in competing with the established British industries, who were already capable of churning out huge amounts of finished goods at relatively low prices. (textiles especially) Britain complained about this all through the 19th Century.
As we all know, aided with this help, American Industry eventually caught up and surpassed European industry, and then was handed a de-facto world wide monopoly after WW2 annihilated almost every factory in Europe. Suddenly (and it wasn't until then) the tariff shoe was on the other foot - now it was America exporting high value finished products to the rest of the world, and the rest of the world wanting to put tariffs on American goods to allow time for their own factories to get rebuilt. (exactly what America did all through the 19th century)
So, rather than addressing this directly, clever American economists devised the "Free Trade" movement as a virtual religion - which is amusing because this is exactly what England pushed all through the 19th century, and which 19th century America fought against - because in the new circumstances, "Free Trade" was the maximum profitable position for American businesses.
So now we're back to where other countries (China!) can produce manufactured goods more cheaply than we can, for a variety of reasons. So the Free Trade canard isn't as profitable as it was from 1945 - 2000. Conclusion - we've always switched our trade ideology to match whatever strategy was most profitable in the past, time to update our rhetoric to match our interests. Long story short - this is what Trump is proposing.

But the state wants people unaware, in hopes that people will speed, in hopes that they will violate the law.

I'm a supervisor, have been since 2015, after I got bent in my spinal cord the second time after a 280 foot gas dive. You can pile safety glasses and gloves and fireproof clothing and face shields and what all and which ever in front of guys and if you don't make them, and they haven't been hurt or seen someone else hurt, They. Will. Ignore. It. You will have to tell them, constantly, to wear the stuff and sign the JSA for the job they're doing. In some cases you have to threaten to run people off to get them to do it, and then maybe actually do it to someone to make everyone else get the goddamn message.

Yet even Plante repeats the LIE that Tyson's accusations are "uncorroborated".
They are totally corroborated. Fairfax does not deny a sexual exchange between himself and Tyson. The sexual encounter is not denied. So it's a he-said-she-said about force and only force.
And we're supposed to believe the woman.
This is far more corroborated than Kavanaugh, and is not as distant in the past--and Plante was highlighting that after people misconstruing denial that Ford was assaulted with the idea that everybody is lying about whatever sexual assault they claim--and accosting everybody who didn't believe Ford...People like Mourning Joe are now dissembling that "maybe we used the wrong standard with Kavanaugh".
I deplore this disingenuous, two-wrongs-don't-make-a-right style of apologetics that reactive progressives *characteristically* practice when they suddenly want leniency for their side. But they're again trotting this out. Although no conservative--that I know of--has felt the need to accost progressives as progressives felt they had an absolute right to "get in the face" of conservatives--not toeing their instant dogma, yet still the suggestion that Fairfax step down is too much and an indicator that "maybe we were wrong about Kavanaugh".

equipment. But working a live 480V Bus was strictly controlled requiring
a huge amount of safety features so in 5 years at sea I only saw it
done once.

Not sure about marine situations, but it's very common to work on 480V equipment while hot in industry. So long as the shock and arc flash hazards are known and accounted for in protective devices and equipment, it can be done with a reasonable amount of safety.

There's been a long-running debate over how to update the PT test to make it a better assessment of physical fitness. I've heard that the new one is... not well received.

When I was in junior high shop class, we had to read safety materials and pass an exam that would demonstrate that we were aware of safe operations. This was eye-opening in two ways for me:
1) That there are very credulous people.
2) That CYAs are just that, and nothing more.
One of the questions was about placement of a piece of wood for cutting. The options were something like:
1) In a vise, secured in at least two dimensions
2) On a work surface
3) On your lap
4) Grasped in your hands
The answer is obviously "1" although "2" will be most common and "3" will happen a fair amount of the time. The correct answer you put on the form is "1."
One of my classmates was whinging about failing that question and that it is is totally unreasonable to expect every item to be put into a vise regardless of need. 1) That there are very credulous people.
2) That CYAs are just that, and nothing more.
One of the questions was about placement of a piece of wood for cutting. The options were something like:
1) In a vise, secured in at least two dimensions
2) On a work surface
3) On your lap
4) Grasped in your hands
The answer is obviously "1" although "2" will be most common and "3" will happen a fair amount of the time. The correct answer you put on the form is "1."
One of my classmates was whinging about failing that question and that it is is totally unreasonable to expect every item to be put into a vise regardless of need. I have to admit that I was taken back just a bit when I called a company to give me an estimate on some electrical work and they sent a female electrician. And I believe God has a sense of humor because about a month later my mother had an emergency plumbing issue and Rotor Rooter sent a female plumber.

Those lowered standards for women make my blood boil. Like Willow, my mom drove truck (not cement mixer) when it was considered new, and my sister drives a truck in the oil field industry now. Both mom and sister chain(ed) their own tires when needed. A 90 lb woman who can't do that needs to find other employment.
I'm in the science field and women are plenty well represented but there are still those who will wail about fewer in leadership roles, well, as a group more men are willing to work extra hours, travel around to meetings spending nights away from home etc and girls are not diving into STEM in HS. Well the ones who do want to study math and science have plenty of support and opportunity so quit your bitching.

No one can MAKE women go into STEM fields. I went to college in 197?, took a computer class out of curiosity. I got all ten of the assigned programs to run, got an A in the class--and never took another one, I hated it. I did use the help room once--and it was a female computer major who helped me. I also had a female engineering major as an apartment mate my senior year. There were women then and all along but the numbers will never be "equal" simply due to personal choice.

Are their women strong enough to do physical jobs? Yes there are: I saw one who was strong and tough enough to play nose guard in Texas high school football (she was second string on a playoff team). I know another woman who was a collegiate wrestler and strong as an ox (and an absolute drop dead beauty men couldn't take their eyes off of). So yes, such women do exist - they can pass job standards, and no, standards shouldn't be lowered to allow less physical people to pass them - men or women.

If I was a college President any student walking out of class for an invalid reason would receive a suspension of the first offense and be expelled on the second. That is the way it used to be when I was coming up. Missing a class was a different story and it depending on the teacher as to how many of those you could accumulate.

Speaking of AOC, this morning I followed a link to a Nation article about her. It was crap, of course, but I noticed that the pic on top made her look completely loony, as you'd see here. Now, since they're on her side, it made me wonder what's up with showing her looking like a bunny-boiler. Seems to me there are 3 possibilities:
1. They see it, but don't think it a problem.
2. They are dimly aware of it, but in denial about it.
3. They don't see it at all.

Look I was Chair Force ROTC and that is not a hardcore branch of the service and I was not, shall we say, formed for running. But even I managed to meet standards.
It's not easy for every, especially if you've had a sedentary life. You might need additional conditioning before or during Camp. But young men respond physically to exercise. It's a fixable problem.
The real problem is an unwillingness to have immutable standards, partly due to women in the military, party just due to general PC bullshit.

The most fun thing (for us) in the Virginia debacle is that the two White Guys have committed serious Heresies against the Progressive Faith, but they haven't actually committed crimes, which makes it very hard to force either of them from office if they don't want to go. On the other hand, Fairfax, the Black guy, has been credibly accused (remember that phrase, Kavanaugh Kritics?) of Felony Sexual Assault. And there is just no way that they can sweep Felony Sexual Assault under the rug. That's why the most likely outcome is the Black Guy gets tossed under the bus, and the two White Guys skate, EVEN THOUGH that will piss off every black voter in Virginny.

209 Speaking of AOC, this morning I followed a link to a Nation article about her. It was crap, of course, but I noticed that the pic on top made her look completely loony, as you'd see here. Now, since they're on her side, it made me wonder what's up with showing her looking like a bunny-boiler. Seems to me there are 3 possibilities:
1. They see it, but don't think it a problem.
2. They are dimly aware of it, but in denial about it.
3. They don't see it at all.
#1 seems unlikely, #2 is possible. But I lean toward #3. It just seems normal in their world. Anyone have a better read on this?

I learned that when I took a traffic ticket to court. I got the ticket and there was only one cop. At court there were tow. They flat out lied about what I did and the fact there were two cops.
From then on out, I bring at least two other people to lie for me. I have yet to lose after I figured out those with the most liars wins in traffic court.

If people post police locations, then presumably other drivers will drop their speed down to the speed limit to obey the law.
But the state wants people unaware, in hopes that people will speed, in hopes that they will violate the law.

This costs next to nothing and is highly effective. Doesn't generate a dime of pay paper, though.
But the state wants people unaware, in hopes that people will speed, in hopes that they will violate the law.

As a young couple planning their shoestring wedding in Phoenix, before he went to Vietnam in the late 60s, they had a problem: they wanted a rock band, and her family wouldn't consider it a real wedding if there wasn't a polka band.
They decided to spring for both, and got the best local band they could, just coming out of garage-band status.
Alice Cooper played their wedding, and Steve and Pat both said he was a really nice guy!

I have a friend, barely five feet tall, that worked pulling green chain at a lumber mill and also as a carpenter tender. Tough lady but her body couldn't handle the stress as she aged.
And I have another woman friend that worked at the transfer station. Some women do try these types of jobs, but it's harder on them physically.

My son-in-law was a perfect example. Flipped houses for investors.. during the boom, he could have had 10 houses going at once.. but he could never transition and did them all himself with a helper or two.
Last year's contractor never showed up, either. These guys have more work than they can handle, thanks to back-to-back hurricanes and storms.

A client of mine who manages transportation and logistics told me they actually have a few women drivers working those big rigs transporting food to stores, etc. And part of their testing is backing up, parking, etc. To say I was impressed is an understatement.

I learned that when I took a traffic ticket to court. I got the ticket and there was only one cop. At court there were tow. They flat out lied about what I did and the fact there were two cops.
From then on out, I bring at least two other people to lie for me. I have yet to lose after I figured out those with the most liars wins in traffic court.

The problem with most contractors is they are not good business people. They may be good at the craft they do, but most never make the transition to a good business owner. They don't know how to delegate, or don't want to.. so, they remain small and over-promise customers so they don't lose a job.

In my line of work (high tech), I dread lawyers. They so often such bad infrastructure that it's just waiting to melt down because they're also cheap and won't pay for professional help - they just have a secretary or somesuch do it. They aren't usually stupid, but keeping the system running isn't their forte. This isn't true of big firms with lots of money and real IT departments, but smaller outfits often leave me weeping.

Every single time I get a moving violation. Not really that often but the SBPD eats up at least one cops time, two if they are lying and I at worst, get a 50% reduction on the fine.
What I do with tickets and the PD the republicans should do to the demofascists. Never give land easily. Make them expend blood and treasure for every inch.

According to their roads department, they pulled in $53,439 in tax revenue in 2015. The same year, they pulled in $1,160,680 from traffic violations.

I have a crackpot theory about this. So much popular (top-40) music has gotten so bad so quickly - particularly the last 3-4 years - that I wonder if computers are to blame. The music is objectively more repetitive. The hook often consumes half the run time of the song. The progressions and backbeats and other musical aspects are also much more repetitive
I wonder if they're using "AI" to compose the music in a way that is congruent with recent historical top-40 trends and that it is now just eating and refining itself. It all sounds so similar and yet it is unlikely that a small number of individuals stuck in a rut are doing that much production across top-40 genres.

In my line of work (high tech), I dread lawyers. They so often such bad infrastructure that it's just waiting to melt down because they're also cheap and won't pay for professional help - they just have a secretary or somesuch do it. They aren't usually stupid, but keeping the system running isn't their forte. This isn't true of big firms with lots of money and real IT departments, but smaller outfits often leave me weeping.

I saw one of those the other day. Driver was a lawyer who drove Uber on the side, and his fare was getting arrested. Four or five cops around his car. Two of them told him it was illegal to record them. He asked them when that law came to be because, as a lawyer, he'd never heard of it. One cop told him that the law was passed just recently, the other cop told him that he was going to get arrested for "being a jerk"."
I support the police, don't get me wrong, but in my personal experience most cops on the street don't know any more about what the actual "law" is than the average internet poster does. And often they know less.
Someone who's willing to stay calm and quiet might have to take a few hours in jail if they run into one of these no-nothings, but they'll be let go with no charges filed pretty quickly. That happens a lot more than many people realize.

#117 Sorry to say worked doing stuff like pulling wire into hot 480 panels, tightening lugs screws on breakers hot as part of PM, cleaning dust dirt debris in hot panels, pulling dead fronts off large and small hot 480 panels that said right on them do not remove this deadfront on a hot panel (usually to get meter readings)

At times I wanted to just quit the job. Crazy stuff. Some people don't have any idea what we blue collar do to pay our bills.
For fun I read OSHA fatality reports. I know exactly what the risks and consequences are.
Nowadays I'm back in school. I hope to sue some of the bastards before I die so that others don't have to work hot like I did to eat. One of my old bosses is still out there working a small college facility in NCal. I know he is still pushing his crew to work hot and I'll lurk on his ass.

#359 I've heard that. Cops have been given dispensation by the hacks in black to tell suspects whatever fake stories they want to concoct in order to advance the often competitive enterprise of ferreting out crime. It's stunning how much fake news there is out there in law enforcement land
And the crooks never rest either.
My favorite fake news was the Madoff investment scheme. Only the elite (usually jewish) were able to get an invite to be ripped off by the entirely fake investment firm. Did it for decades right under the cops noses.

Regarding the Waze app article posted above. I kinda am on the side of a cop...reason being, if you have someone drive drunk, and they use the app to avoid checkpoints and go an alternate route. What if you are an innocent motorist who happens to encounter this drunk driver and get into an accident...then all the fallout from that accident. Damage, broken bones, death, etc...
Sorry I have very little tolerance for people who drive drunk. The risks to other motorists are way to great. Especially in a time where with technology you can get an Uber or Lyft to come pick you up.

My friend Della used to get bored pulling green chain and would toss in wood to jam the line. Then she'd have a little break while she got the jam cleared. Her boss talked to her about it but didn't fire her for it. She was a hard worker. She had her first child at 15, stayed on welfare long enough for her son and daughter to get in school, then started working in the saw mill. She did not want government assistance any longer than she absolutely needed it.

We could equalize the on-the-job death imbalance by dragging female school teachers and HR managers from their offices and just whack em until we get some parity. However, I think they will say that it wasn't so bad afterall.
