New York Times Editorial: Democrats Should Admit They're In Favor of Open Borders and Just Go YOLO With It
No one's in favor of Open Borders, except for 85% of the political and media class (including the allegedly conservative media class being kept fat and happy by their corporate angels).
At least, no one admits being in favor of open borders to the rubes. But this editorial suggests its time to drop the masks.NY Times opinion writer Farhad Manjoo says it's time for the Democratic Party, or some brave person in it, to drag the Overton Window to the left on immigration. He has discovered the "bottomless unfairness" that people who are American citizens are American citizens and people who are not American citizens are equally not American citizens. And this unfairness must be fixed by making every person in the world American. Note that the #Woker segments of Corporate Shill "Conservatism" were very quick to dismiss this as merely being an editorial in the leading Democrat/liberal newspaper in America:He's certainly playing up the bright side of this politically, but the actual reasoning is a bit, err, confused.
Imagine radically shifting our stance toward outsiders from one of suspicion to one of warm embrace. Imagine that if you passed a minimal background check, you'd be free to live, work, pay taxes and die in the United States. Imagine moving from Nigeria to Nebraska as freely as one might move from Massachusetts to Maine. There's a witheringly obvious moral, economic, strategic and cultural case for open borders, and we have a political opportunity to push it. As Democrats jockey for the presidency, there's room for a brave politician to oppose President Trump's racist immigration rhetoric not just by fighting his wall and calling for the abolishment of I.C.E. but also by making a proactive and affirmative case for the vast expansion of immigration.
When you see the immigration system up close, you're confronted with its bottomless unfairness. The system assumes that people born outside our borders are less deserving of basic rights than those inside. My native-born American friends did not seem to me to warrant any more dignity than my South African ones; according to this nations founding documents, we were all created equal. Yet by mere accident of geography, some were given freedom, and others were denied it.

I know a second generation Nigerian. His parents became citizens before he was born. The entire family is church going Christians. His mom is a physician, the dad a professional. None of them has ever spent a day on the dole. They actually bring something to the country. Their knowledge of our laws and constitution surpasses anything that any soy-boy American graduate of either high school or college would know. They are open to reason and intelligent argument.

The campaign tells the story, but this is my situation:
I am partially handicapped, with limited mobility and only 25% use of my strong right arm. Up until June, I was still able to drive for Uber, and did so for over a year. I was deactivated as a driver at that time.
My only family is a brother who I was helping financially while working. My "friends", I found, consisted of those from a marriage of 17 years which ended three years ago. I have been turned down for welfare benefits because, as reported, I made too much money this last year to qualify. I applied for SSDI, and am awaiting their first denial, as I'm told this is their standard practice.
While working, I had built up a small reserve of money, one that was used up recently to pay an oral surgeon to treat a badly abscessed tooth.
I have been everywhere in applying for jobs, and in the past 6 months have only gotten 3 days of good freelance work, and 5 days of temp work. I will find something, as failure is not an option. In the meantime, I am looking at homelessness very soon. This is the reason for my request. Anything you could do would be greatly appreciated.

If you're on the Left, yes - sort of. Many leftists - *loved* the fascists at the beginning (and lots converted to it wholesale). It was a way to get socialism without the natural proletarian uprising (about which Marx was shockingly wrong) and without an internationalist (e.g., hard to coordinate) Leninist "vanguard of the proletariat." It was perfect.
That changed when Hitler invaded the USSR. Marxism and it's offspring Leninism were always the preferred form of socialism. Fascism, while acceptable, was never preferred.
In the eyes of the Left - especially the US Left - fascists became evil the moment they invaded the USSR, and not a moment before. Thus the 40+ year postwar effort to recast the fascists as conservatives. They committed the socialist equivalent of the Sin Against The Holy Ghost.

The legal immigrants are some of the best and the brightest from the countries they come from. Believe it or not, becoming a legal US citizen through the immigration process is a rather lengthy and expensive proposition. Only people of means with spotless records and perfect health can accomplish it.
Of course, I think the number should be limited by an annual review by Congress. Perhaps less then 500,000. Depending on US birth rates.
But the truth of the matter is we're draining some borderline countries of their best people. That might pay negative dividends in the long run.

A trust society needs two things to exist:

Just as we can breathe easy knowing our neighbor is almost certainly not trying to rob us or murder us, in the same manner we can allow the "other team" to win once in a while, disliking it, but knowing that they are not actively seeking our destruction. They may suck, they may be wrong, but at least there's a small glimmer of good faith in there.
Now observe the general erosion of the trust society by the social policies and general social "engineering" of the progressive left over the past decades. Nearly *every* single posture or maneuver the left makes is designed to erode the trust society. Or, at best, to replace the stability of the trust/wealth cycle with the illusory stability of the master/slave relationship between citizen and state.
This ties in directly with immigration policy. An immigrant, in order to be successful as an American, must be willing to be a part of that trust society.
If your first action upon entering the country, your first position, your first stance in regard to The American Polity, is to say "F*ck your rules, I'm going to do as I please" out of greed, laziness, stupidity, desperation, or some combination of them all, then you have fundamentally proven yourself unsuited to and undeserving of citizenship (or even residency) in a trust society. Not just America. *Any* trust society.
It is THIS more than any other reason why immigration policy is so vital to get right, and why it curdles my blood and frazzles my synapses to hear blase pseudo-intellectuals gabble on about "liberty" and "freedom" with respect to free, unrestricted, unmonitored migration.

Then, through a combination of events, some white men got together and created the US Constitution, after writing their Declaration of Independence from one of said elite class that had been exploiting them.
The Constitution is unique for many reasons, most of those here readily understand.
The Constitution has been attacked now for centuries. Be it war from other countries, a split in beliefs that caused a Civil War, or a World War, where the choice was fight or be obliterated, the Constitution and it's believers always stood strong.
But now, there is a different war, it is the war of confusion and lies. Massive lies, co-ordinated daily, and the population is smothered with them. Some people are succumbing to the lies, and start doubting their own sanity. Because WHY would so many seemingly successful people on TV pound and pound and pound this same, unproven information at us?
They seem successful, but they are mostly highly paid trolls. Paid by those who HATE the Constitution, hate common people, and most importantly, want to keep their elite status at the expense of anyone else who dares want any of their resources. These payers include not only hard core Leftists, but CofC goons like the Coch Brothers, who wrap their rich azzes in the Flag, while doing their best for wide-open borders. Profits require backs, lots of pliable backs. Open borders, unlimited H-1B's and H-2B's, that's what they are all about.
The only conclusion an aware, independent person can conclude is that we are already AT WAR with the enemies of our Constitution, and it follows, at war with those that believe in the Constitution. It is the most dangerous, because it is silent and sneaky. It's coming from manipulating kid's understanding of both history and reality. Rich pretty people lying to us about the reported news, and more importantly, the news that is ignored or censored. And the examples are many.
Not all of our enemies dislike the Constitution! The most effective soldiers are not only the George Soros types, and those shills that take his money and form "non-profits" that are only created to undermine the Constitution. No, they are the Sergeants, the Capos. The real soldiers? The masses of uneducated, willfully stupid Americans.
You see these stupid Americans everywhere. They are seen on late night shows and comedy routines, making stupid non-answers to civics questions, and then laughing at the stupid, because it is funny. Maybe funny in the moment, but in the aggregate, it is an attack. An attack on knowledge means that person is malleable and can be changed to think the Constitution is old and stale, and needs to be changed. Without any actual data. Why are we laughing anyway? Because they are actually proud of being stupid!
If you think I'm wrong, just look at Robert Francis ororKe, and Sandy from the Bronx. Both are saying exactly this! The Constitution is stale, change it.
Umm, change exactly what? What passages or Amendments should be changed? Answer: who cares! Because stupid is the new America. Many schools, especially inner-city that have horrible atmospheres for learning, are a prime source. They don't teach facts, they teach feelings instead. Feelings = Victimology.
And feelings lead to stupid people like Sandy and Robert Francis looking into the camera and telling you that your Constitution needs changing, well, BECAUSE.
So the Constitution, the document that took the ideas of the Magna Carta and made them a country of laws, not men, is now under attack like never before. Not from foreign powers, but from inside. Not from detailed discussions, but from rampant stupidity and ignorance of facts and history.
People here at AoS understand responsibility, they understand that a plan, combined with hard work, usually means a level of success. Not any more. To the "new" world, it is class envy and class division now. Which, by the way, is inherently un-Constitutional. Try telling that to Sandy or RFo'K. Or their ignorant followers.
No, as others say, I don't see voting at the way we get out of this.

The political class and their acolytes, who are VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY UPSET that people do in fact show passports at the border at ports of entry, say, one way or another "no one wants open borders" while remaining upset, as noted above, and wants agencies like ICE, who enforce immigration laws, abolished.
They need to just admit that while, say, crossing into Canada and being hassled by CBSA does not bother them at all, it does bother them that one can't cross into the United States and feel LESS hassle than one feels when crossing county lines.
