Much Ado About ONT

Good evening Morons. Having a spot of computer trouble here, I keep getting an error message:

fat ass.jpg

Paying it Forward

An Act of Kindness An older gentleman leaves his wallet at home, and she pays for his groceries. That's it. Nothing earth shattering, no film at 11, no big deal. Except it is a big deal, and the kind of thing that is commonplace in a high trust society.

High Trust Society

Why Ex-Churchgoers Flocked to Trump A fascinating demographic dive into how voting patterns broke down against church attendance. They found a marked preference for Trump among people who considered themselves religious yet didn't regularly attend church. It talks about how these pattern track in “high trust” and “low trust” areas. This is something that I don't think gets talked about enough. Traditional American society is a high trust environment. I don't think that a lot of people realize what that means, how valuable it is, and how much we're losing it. John Ringo has his protagonist talk about it a lot in his novel The Last Centurion. Even if you're not interested in the story of Bandit Six in the sandbox itself, I recommend that everybody read the first third of the book, it's an excellent civics primer. If I were a civics professor, that book and P.J. O'Rourke's Parliament of Whores would be the top two books on my syllabus.

Weekend Activities

Supposed to snow this weekend over much of the country. What are some of you Morons' preferred activities for your days off?

Alrighty then. Sounds like fun.

Military History

A new clue could explain the mysterious disappearance of a Civil War submarine

In 1864, H.L. Hunley became the first submarine to sink an enemy warship (U.S.S. Housatonic ). After the attack, she sank and all hands were lost. Novelist and adventurer Clive Cussler discovered the wreck in 1995 (or maybe he didn't. I mean, he did, in fact, discover her in 1995, but E. Lee Spence claims, with documentation, to have discovered her in 1970. Lawsuits between the two were inconclusive). In any event, she was raised in 2000 and archaeologists have been working on the wreck ever sense. You can go take a look at her by visiting the Warren Lasch Conservation Center in Charleston, South Carolina.

More Recent Military History

Worse than you thought: inside the secret Fitzgerald probe the Navy doesn’t want you to read. It's....pretty bad. This is the kind of thing you get when you run your armed forces as a social experiment instead of a killing machine.

And a Triple...

Tracking down a Hero; The story of SGM James O. Schmidt SGM Schmidt joined the newly created Airborne division during WWII at age 14, and served throughout the war, in Korea, and Vietnam. Quite a life.

Musical Interlude

I saw him on this tour in 1993, and it was an incredible show. He opened with the number above, incidentally one of my favorite Peter Gabriel songs, with the same stage choreography you see in the video. From here:

After the first bars the curtains that had covered the stage were lowered. The other musicians were lifted onto the stage and took their positions. Peter sang the first verses in an old red English phone booth. As the song went on he left it and moved towards the round stage on the catwalk. After the new line-up Paula Cole would stand there and sing with him. He would wrap himself in the phone cable. Then he would return to the phone booth by and by and hang up with in time for the last note.

The stage was in two parts connected by a long thin catwalk that had a conveyor belt on it. It looked kind of like the head and neck of a guitar from above. Peter made his way along the neck towards the “head”, and the conveyor belt allowed the phone cord to “pull” him back into the phone booth. At the end of the show he took a big suitcase out to the “head” (where Paula Cole (and isn't she just gorgeous) is standing in the video). The band members walked down the “neck” one by one out to Gabriel who “packed” them away in the suitcase (see that bit here) Just an awesome, awesome show, one of the best I've ever seen. I think I'm going to buy the DVD this is from now.

Tonight's ONT brought to you by the majestic mantaur. A mythical beast that is half man and half....another man.

Funny thing about that book. The President, who is an obvious Hillary analogue, is named "Warren", and the book was written years before Lieawatha appeared on the national stage. Now she's got a better chance than Hillary (not a good chance I don't think, but better than Hillary) of making it to the big chair.

And Pres Donald J Trump remembers that America, and is fighting for it! I'll follow him wherever this fight takes us, he's the real deal.

61 Nancy made two tactical mistakes in two days, brought on by:

1. The fact that she hasn't ever really had an opposition to fight against thorough most of her career, and certainly during her last stint as Speaker--who would consider Bush an opponent? Trump's a fighter. She's used to the fake opposition that always lets the left win every argument.
2. She still thinks Trump is motivated by his ego, and disinviting him to speak in the House was some sort of mortal personal blow to him. Wrong. He uses that ego as a tool, and look what he accomplished with it.
3. She's old, too old to be mentally agile enough to lead and I would venture to say that the newer Representatives are figuring that out now. How many tactical errors will she be allowed to make before her own party begins to do something about it? Just the fact that she has been holed up in her office ever since the flight cancellation shows that they are struggling for a response/riposte. She didn't see this coming at all.

91 61 She still thinks Trump is motivated by his ego, and disinviting him to speak in the House was some sort of mortal personal blow to him. Wrong. He uses that ego as a tool, and look what he accomplished with it.

Yes, this is just what almost everyone who is anti-Trump does not get about him. An interesting exception to this is Michael Moore, who gets why Trump is a dangerous guy to have as an enemy.

The bombast and bragging and Tweeting is the theater. I can no longer count the number of good things that I've read about Trump making happen, very quietly, while his opponents were raving about Russia or some other deliberately-induced distraction.

According to my son (served on same configuration of DDG) the head on the bridge is unusable. So small the sink overhangs the toilet so males can't stand up and use it, females can't sit and use it. What the sailors did instead on his ship when on bridge watch was to step out into the weather and relieve themselves over the rail. Both men and women. They didn't use jars/cans as it was thought to do so would necessitate taking your eyes off the instruments even longer than stepping out.

I can see Pelosi trying to mess with appropriations for the White House and anything Trump, but if she screws that up, she'll end up with no federal appropriations getting through congress.

That, of course, would do wonders for the federal budget deficit and reduce the national debt to have no federal spending at all, on anything for a year or two.

If only that could happen...

361 Here's yet another guess at Nancy's timeline today:

- Nancy finds out her flight is cancelled. Near a rage stroke, she decides a nice new visit to her friendly Botox doc will improve her disposition.

- Gets to the office, asks to see the doctor and hands the staff her Congressional Member card. Then she finds out her gold-plated medical insurance policy has also been cancelled. "Feel free to come on back when you can pay for your treatment," the receptionist helpfully chirps.

381 What is the worst thing the Democratic House could do, politically?

Answer: spend all of its time impeaching and investigating Trump, to the exclusion of everything else.

Being impeached helped Clinton's popularity - I don't see why it wouldn't help Trump's.

Knowing this, Nancy has been trying to tamp down the impeachment talk, but now she may not be able to help herself.

Combine that with the high likelihood that there will be a Supreme Court opening in the next few months, which will induce further paroxysms of Democratic rage, and I think that Trump is pretty well set for reelection.

392 /Rant on

I found found the article made some interesting observations, but I found it muddled and problematic in a number of places.

- Confusion as to causes. In one place it says Trump support can't be attributed to economics alone because such people religious. But later it says how people stopped going to church *because* of economics. So it appears it *was* about economics after all.

- It also says how elites have a high degree of trust in their communities and admits they are secular. That doesn't square with the claim that the people who attend church frequently have a higher degree of trust even in rural communities. I suppose they are saying they both do, but the article fails to keep in mind there are 2 causes of trust from diametrically opposed communities.

- It doesn't go into the *why* of why the frequent church goers were less likely to vote for Trump. Was it because they belonged to liberal denominations? Was it because they fell for bad ideas of stealth liberal pastors? For instance bad exegesis designed to dupe laymen (Jesus was a Marxist. Joseph and Mary were illegal aliens when they fled to Egypt). Or being duped by appeals to snobbery to sit out the election (Trump was divorced 3 times! And he's uncouth! No Christian would vote for him!).

- The issues of trust/frequency of attendance were framed in terms of statistics and correlations. They were not framed in terms of whether Trump support was rationally or morally justified. But that treats people like irrational animals. If they're in situation X they'll do this, else they'll do Y. Like rats in a maze, or a pet resisting a trip to the vet, though it may save its life.

- Now I agree this all correlates with "high trust", "low trust" and "frequency of church attendance", but in the following way:

People who are well to do (ie. secular elites) did not vote for Trump since they are not being affected by the problems that Trump voters care about. They have "high trust" in their (gated) communities but that is an ancillary factor of them doing well. "High trust" has nothing to do with trust Trump support per se. Nor does church attendance for this secular group.

As for the pious, who knows why they didn't vote for him. Bad theology? Sloppy thinking about adiaphora? The article doesn't say.

OTOH, people who perceived that the institutions they previously trusted were fucking them over and destroying the country decided to rejected institutional candidates. But that's rational observation, and that's all there is to it. No need to try to correlate it with statistics about church attendance. In fact, their lack of church attendance may have isolated them from bullshit arguments from liberal pastors, but this article doesn't go into root causes. It is only concerned with superficial statistical correlations.

And frankly Dave, I'm puzzled by your comment:
"Traditional American society is a high trust environment. I don't think that a lot of people realize what that means, how valuable it is, and how much we're losing it."

But the "high trust" people are the ones who *didn't* vote for Trump. They are the ones who are willing to let the country go to shit, either because they are elites and they're oblivious/callous because everything's going fine for them, or because they are rural, religious, and falling for a lot of lousy arguments.

Trust is great, but not at any price. If it means trusting government to the demise of yourself, your family and your community, it's better to be analytical and try to figure out if those you trust are worthy of it.

What you missed is that the high trust people voted for Cruz. The survey was of 'Pubbie voters, not the electorate as a whole, so I think your speculation about liberal pastors is off the mark. IOW (this is me extrapolating), in high trust areas they voted for the most conservative traditional candidate - trying to make changes w/in the sitting system - a system they see as working because they are in HT areas. In LT areas, they voted for Trump - the system is not working as it should so they want to disrupt it. That's my theory anyway.

President Trump now has a 50% approval rating with Latino voters.

That repeater is a modern luxury, not a necessity... and as someone who was in charge of all the Electronics on a Destroyer, if I had to choose one to take parts from, vice the one on the Bridge or in CIC? Damn straight it would have been the one from the Capt. Stateroom.

459 I doubt that most of the U.S. Navy is the "Fitz".

Just enough of it is though, to be worrisome.

Admiral Nimitz had to clear out a very high number of non-fighting rank-climbers, in order to forge an effective Fleet in the Pacific.

I'd love to see President Trump announce Operation Nimitz, a programmed purge of the Senior Ranks to clear out the chairborne warriors, and replace them with Sailors who Intend to Sail Into Harm's Way.

After the Operation Nimitz decimation is complete, then move onto the training element: OpEx Badass. Mission patch: "Put Up or Shut Up!"

Bring back some esprit de corps, hoist the black flag and let slip the ships of war!

There is a fine line between being a Hard ass who gets results, and being a martinet... you can train people up to standards fairly quickly... hell we did it about every 4 years due to basic turnover.

But that training needs to be realistic and TOUGH. RefTra (Refresher training) before a deployment used to be about 2 or 3 weeks of basic hell. Run by outside hard asses, you did it until you got it right.

But I saw a slipping of standards even before I retired. RefTra was a JOKE to the guys who worked for me on my last cruise, because I had already trained them up to OLD RefTra standards... expecting a few weeks of hell. It never came because it turned out MY standards were higher than the guys they sent to oversea the training itself.

So far as I know, we never did wrest the "recipe" for the truly flashless powder that Japan used for their big guns in the big war.

That in itself, is a war crime.

We fired our guns, they zeroed in on the hundred-foot wide fireball.

They fired their guns, and we were all.... whut? whure?

A lot of credit to the Japanese skippers.

Equal credit to their modest, shy and polite gun powder.

Samuel Eliot Morrison noted that the pre-war American navy gave a lot of weight to the annual gunnery competitions - it determined who got promoted, etc.

To be "fair", the gunnery competitions were invariably conducted in daylight and in calm seas.

Unfortunately, the Japanese Navy preferred to do its surface fighting at night. That was rather unsporting of them.

494 It seems to me that LBJ was a SOB, but the risks would have outweighed the gain. No way to keep that kind of thing secret.

The disconnect seems to be the insistence that a 2nd shooter changes everything. It's not im inconceivable that one of Oswald's buddies got away. And it would be something the Warren Commission would want covered up.

Another interesting theory that has more going for it than one might think, is that it was an inadvertant discharge from the then-new Colt AR-15 from a secret service agent that killed Kennedy. Many people, including Hale Yarborough, a congressman from Texas present in the motorcade, no stranger to firearms, said he smelled gunpowder nearly the whole way to Parkland hospital, as did several people at ground level. This would not make any sense from the shots fired at the sixth floor level, and the wind was blowing the other direction.

He had already signed an executive order to make it so the US Government would print its own money again, not Federal Reserve notes.

Thus taking a huge amount of power from the Fed Res System, and putting some monetary policy back with the Government, not banks.

He signed that order about 6 months before being killed.

LBJ immediately rescinded that order.

But outside of perhaps Utah, they're influence is declining.

A bunch of them got voted out of office in the last election, and as the GOPe becomes increasingly indistinguishable from the Democrats, their influence continues to decline.

There's a reason why the Weekly Standard went out of business, after all.

506 Another thing haunting Kennedy was how badly everything went in South Vietnam earlier that month.

Many saw the Diem brothers in Saigon to be an impediment. So the CIA. thus the US, gave tacit support for a coup. The American idiots thought the Diem brothers would merely be told to go live someplace else like Paris. The coup leaders played by different rules and the Diem brothers were murdered.

A request for an air strike resulted in planes from Soryu and Akagi scoring several direct hits. The crippled destroyer was finished off by the 6in guns of the cruiser Chikuma. 529 Good evening all.

Resident Horde bartender reporting. Interesting day/evening here.

Started with my church board meeting which then parlayed into my setting up at the church to receive the local Republican Party meeting which is held monthly at the church.

As I was straightening up after the meeting, a bartender co-worker texted me a GIF of a woman with large breasts flashing them and implored me to join him at the local beer joint where the owner was now employing less than reputable females to bikini dance on the bar top.

Fearful that I burst into flames or be struck by lightning for going for a hoochie dance after a church meeting, I instead opted to stop by my own place of employment for a beer where a nice young man and regular of mine had just returned from Afghanistan where he was on tour as a contracted soldier.

He shared video footage of the helicopter he was on as well as his cell phone recording of his 50 cal ripping off rounds. I bought him a few shots of tequila for his service. Then a few other regulars of mine that voted for Hillary decided they needed to discuss Trump with me and questioned how I could possibly vote for him because OrangeManBad.

Two beers later, I got as much acquiescence as one can hope to achieve out of a liberal when they said "Well, I can see where it made sense for you to vote for him".

A day in the life of a Hordetender. I hope all of your days were filled with stimulating conversation, old friends and pleasant libations.

That's exactly the sense I got. They like to claim the rifle wasn't any good, it only cost $20 (in 1962, that was fair chunk of change, and war surplus was dirt cheap) and so on. The same people who sell UFO books are in on the Kennedy scam too. It's a huge industry. And misdirecting the rubes pays dividends. They showed Stone's movie in schools, fer cryin' out loud. Wankers.

Oswald looks fairly pleased with himself in some of the mugshots, and even gave a raised fist commie salute at one point. Of course guilt can't be proved from a mugshot, but he looks ... guilty. I think there was a coverup, but it was to protect certain realities and this left a vacuum for the usual suspects like Stone to exploit.

What I don't believe, is that JFK was going to remove troops from Viet Nam, or return us to silver dimes or kill the FED or dismantle the CIA. Maybe he should have, lol, but none of that stuff was in the cards.

Assign the Sea Lawyers, and Bureaucrats, goldbrickers and layabouts to man the target ships of the fleet.

No more should an exercise "target" be nothing but a stripped out and aging hulk, towed out to sea to be left as a stationary sitting duck, awaiting it's fate.

Rather, let's take the doomed ship, provisioned with JUST enough fuel, food, water and supplies, to feed her crew for a few days.

Rules of the game are, she can steam at whatever speed the engineering plant can give her, evade as she might, and use all CounterMeasures as she will.

When the exercise is complete, if she's still afloat, survivors are welcomed back into the Fleet.

If not, they ended their careers honorably, perhaps for the first time in their service.

And we just made the training *that* much more realistic.

535 The JFK assassination is easily explained. A deranged Communist fanatic killed the President.

Cuban archives say this, after they rejected his strange advances, on advice from Moscow.

American intercepts of Soviet intelligence show why: after internal investigations of the defector Oswald showed him to be too stupid and unstable to be a KGB asset, they rejected him and sent him home.

After that, he tried Havana, came up dry, and settled on his own course.

His wife confirms this.

So does his father.

It was just a crazed Commie.

Ok that's a fair point. I keep looking at things from hindsight "Trump's done good, or at least fights as hard as possible. I don't think Cruz would have done as well".

I keep forgetting that during the primary there were a lot of concerns about Trump (as ace pointed out) and I wasn't sure which would have been better myself. So given an uncertainty between them, the religious person would probably opt for Cruz. I hope I didn't come across as shrill. I get a bug up my ass sometimes. The physical part of my job was long hours and the learning curve of mastering new equipment. Nothing i trained with in A and C schools was actually the equipment that i had to maintain or operate. Some of the equipment we had was brand new to the fleet and nobody had any training to fix or operate.

I don't claim that I wasn't at least skeptical at first. Wasn't he good friends with all the libbies? Maybe, this is some jiggery-pokery to help out the Clintons? Keep in mind, I never watched a single episode of the Apprentice. Sure, I saw the advertisements. I knew he was a brash New Yorker, and "You're Fired" was part if the lexicon. Bit I didn't know anything about him, really. I don't watch TV too much.

However, I figured, let's see how the usual suspects react to his throwing his hat in the ring. If he's the real deal, they will start pinging. And sure enough, within days they were all running around at Defcon 12 with their hair on fire. "He's the Real deal" I decided, and - he was the ONLY guy who could beat the crooked Hillary/Fake news axis. We'd seen this movie before, right? "Here, pick one - Bush, or Clinton" or, failing that, a Kasich/Romney/Rubio standard issue failure theater surrender monkey.

So I jumped on the Trump train early, that was how I saw the calculus and nothing has persuaded me otherwise since that time. Also keep in mind he didn't "have" to run. He could have been content to play golf and enjoy time with his beautiful family, and not put up with the 24/7 bullshit campaign. I mean think about it, these bastards are basically inciting the crazies to go after him. He didn't have to put himself through that. He deserves a medal simply for exposing all these worthless bastards for everyone to see. Really great guy.

570 From USS Roberts After Action Report after the No.2 mount cooked off a round in the barrel.

"The first man to enter the mount after the explosion found the gun captain, Carr, on the deck of the mount holding in his hands the last projectile available to his gun. He was completely torn open and his intestines were splattered throughout the inside of the mount. Nevertheless he held in his hands the 54-pound projectile, held it up above his head and begged the petty officer who had entered the mount to help him get that last round out."

Lee Harvey Oswald had help, wittingly or unwittingly.

The original Robert Francis, not the fake Texas one, was ruthless as his brother's AG, against the Mob and cost them a lot of money.
Nobody gets away with costing the Mob a lot of money.

576 To think that my greatest fear with Trump was that the Democrats would play to his ego, butter him up and he would compromise with them in the name of making deals.

Turns out Dems were all too deranged to even attempt such a thing, and the Republicans who fell victim to their hubris and compromised were the neocons.

I mean think about it, these bastards are basically inciting the crazies to go after him. He didn't have to put himself through that. He deserves a medal simply for exposing all these worthless bastards for everyone to see. Really great guy.

Posted by: Common Tater at January 18, 2019 01:21 AM

Yes, he didn't *have* to run. Being a political junkie I read everything of Trumps reason for entering the race. Cliff Notes version: the people who he remembered that built his towers, that made him wealthy, came to him and pleaded with him to do it. These very same people were getting pummeled by all the underhanded "deals" that were being made making them worthless. When 60,000 American factories go out of business the last thing in the world which is needed is construction workers to build new factories.

Sometimes, it might be a little hard to believe, but the people who get ahead in life remember the so-called 'little people' who made that success possible. Not always, but occasionally.

Initially, I was total Cruz. Then Glenn Beck walked Ted off the side of the cliff. But in the end it had to be someone, anyone other then a continuation of the Clinton or Bush New World Odor.

597 Blutarski: No, you are not guilty of Bad Think. The XO's mother and aunt lived with us for the last five years of MIL's life. MIL had horrible osteoporosis and spent most of those five years sitting on the couch. Her sister, the XO's aunt, was in pretty good physical shape but didn't have two brain cells left to call her own. Every morning, when I had to get them up and ready for the day, I would look at the aunt and silently ask her why she bothered to wake up. I've talked with other caretakers who also asked the same question. I think it's natural when you know the relative you were so close to and loved has become little more than a walking, talking vegetable.

For five years I said that if the aunt had understood what was going on, she would have died of sheer embarrassment. Dressed by a stranger (me), dragged into the shower to be washed twice a week, very personal physical problems handled by me. The list goes on and on. If she had known, she would have cried to be so dependent on a stranger when she had worked so hard in her younger years to be independent and self-sufficient.

Jim: Very sorry for your loss. It can be scary to discover one day that you are it, that the last member of the generation that proceeded you is gone.

Slap: Good luck with your liver. I have to watch what I eat to try and keep my kidneys going, but I don't have to be that strict. I hope you get a wonderful new liver soon, or better yet, that a couple of really smart guys develop a n artificial liver.

Our laws don't allow it, but I'd gladly put a provision in my Trust that a certain friend had the RIGHT to put a double-tap of .22 LR into my head if I got like that.

Here's the trick to the provision.

The only thing said friend inherits, is the .22 LR firearm used in the performance of said act.

And not a penny more.

I'd make sure I only had ONE Stevens .22 single shot Wal Mart bolte in the mix.

Not many people want to go to perdition with only a single shot Savage to see them on their way.

The higher dollar .22's to be sold at action, of course.

Never had the blueberry craisins, i have had the cherry version, tho. They are good

The active help of Google, DNC enabled voting fraud, specially targeted moves of illegals into specific voting areas, the Soros Secretary of State program, and having Obama move Census directly under the White House as his first official act were all part of the action. Very sophisticated, and it worked.

Another woman was shot in the eye with a tear gas grenade and has lost her eye. She was simply walking to some place, and not part of the protests.

Another 19 year old girl, sitting on a bench and not part of the protests, had her jaw fractured in three places by a flash ball.

November 9, 1989. The fall of the Berlin Wall. Because that should have been the same date we started dismantling a bunch of the agencies that were never Constitutional, and only necessary because of the Cold War.

We didn't - and those agencies immediately began looking for a new enemy to justify their existences. They found their enemy ... the Citizenry.

704 The JFK assassination is easily explained.

I would take it back to the day the 16th Amendment was put into place.

It heralded a massive break in the purpose of the US Constitution. It changed the relationship between the Government and the Citizen. No longer was the Government constrained by the Constitution and serve the People, rather it enslaved the People to the ambitions of politicians.

The 16th Amendment negated the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th articles in the Bill of Rights.

If you go to DuckDuckGo and type in "weather _____, __" with your city and state it gives a really fast report of current temp and conditions and the next few days forecast.

Conditions like your's call for rough medicine, Hik. And Half-Assed Measures are worse than no measures at all.

It's just Tough Love, baby.

741 This is going to leave a mark. Trump is at 50% approval with hispanics in the latest PBS/NPR poll. It was a 19% jump since the last poll.

If he has those kinds of numbers going into 2020 his democrat opponent is doomed.

GP has the article.

745 Well hordlings - greetings from Your Man in Hong Kong.

End of the day here and had to say - the arrival of the news of the "Trumpening" of the congressional "junket" to Belgium [yes I want fries with my Trappist beer please] , Egypt [Woah! the Sphynx really does look like Hillary if she had the body of a cat!] and some safe area of Afghanistan [ Hmm should I haggle with this guy for thsi rug or just buy?] (but which is now only referred to as "an important Congressional envoy to war-torn Afghanistan for a fact finding mission" by the MSM) has set me in very good spirits.

What an absolute master stroke. Also - the idiot Pelosi has opened the door to Trump making his SOTU at any venue of his choice and just delivering the written version to Congress. I would hold it ion the Senate well and invite the Reps - but have them sit in the galllery, on the wings, with only the President's invited guests in the middle who will all be angel moms and their families which he will then spend the entire SOTU praising, going through their stories and going through the brutal murders of their family members which could have been prevented by Nancy Pelosi if she would just allow the wall to be built by allowing a small fraction of the budget to be used to do so and instead of holding the government hostage to allow her plan of open borders. He can then end with the introducing lady who led the group to meet with Nancy at her office the other day and have her walk over to Nancy whilel he asks, will you meet with her now? Or will you hide in your office like you hid after I cancelled your ridiculous vacation to Belgium etc"

Man I would pay good money to see that.

But seriously, Trump has an opportunity to start an brand new SOP with the SOTU. Hold it at a friendly venue. Invite only your own people in the audience (so no Code Pink BS) . Have seats for invited congress critters (and the SOTUS justices) but they do NOT get to invite anyone - it's not at their venue anymore so FOAD. And none of this BS where Congress gets the address before hand to prepare a response ( wtf is with that anyway?) Congress gets the actual written version - in longhand calligraphy on parchment - delivered by a white house staff member to the door of Congress, physically, only at the moment Trump starts his speech. He physically leaves it by the door to the House of Reps for them to unwrap, read and figure out.

That sounds appropriate to me. George Washington had the right idea - never go to the Congress for anything, ever. It took him one SOTU to figure that out.

746 702 I can't tell you a precise "tipping point" - but I place a key data point back much, much farther back than either of yours.
