FBI's Pretext for Opening an Investigation Into Trump? The Theory (Quite Possibly Championed by James Comey) That Putin Called Trump to Tell Him "Fire That Son-of-a-Bitch Patriot and Righteous Beacon James Comey!!!"

Unbelievable. The top echelons of the FBI, which themselves were threatened with the kompromat that they had engaged previously in illegal operations against a presidential candidate, decided that they had to investigated a Putin-Trump connection on the theory that James Comey was such a righteous warrior for America that Putin himself directed Donald Trump to fire him.

Hey -- you don't know for certain that it didn't happen that way until you investigate, riiiiight?

Can't wait to hear about the results for the similar investigation into Obama for saying on a hot mic that he would deal more generously with Russia after the election, when he had "more flexibility."

In the chaotic aftermath at the FBI following Director James Comey's firing, a half-dozen senior FBI officials huddled to set in motion the momentous move to open an investigation into President Donald Trump that included trying to understand why he was acting in ways that seemed to benefit Russia.

They debated a range of possibilities, according to portions of transcripts of two FBI officials' closed-door congressional interviews obtained by CNN. On one end was the idea that Trump fired Comey at the behest of Russia. On the other was the possibility that Trump didn't have an improper relationship with the Kremlin and was acting within the bounds of his executive authority, the transcripts show.

James Baker, then-FBI general counsel, said the FBI officials were contemplating with regard to Russia whether Trump was "acting at the behest of and somehow following directions, somehow executing their will."

"That was one extreme. The other extreme is that the President is completely innocent, and we discussed that too," Baker told House investigators last year. "There's a range of things this could possibly be. We need to investigate, because we don't know whether, you know, the worst-case scenario is possibly true or the President is totally innocent and we need to get this thing over with -- and so he can move forward with his agenda."

Following Comey's firing, the FBI opened a probe into Trump for possible obstruction of justice, as CNN has previously reported. Part of the impetus for the investigation, the New York Times first reported Friday, was whether Trump's actions seemed to benefit Russia.

...

Republicans view the officials' comments as evidence that top officials at the FBI were planning all along to investigate Trump and that the probe wasn't sparked by the Comey firing, according to a Republican source with knowledge of the interviews.

While the FBI launched its investigation in the days after Comey's abrupt dismissal, the bureau had previously contemplated such a step, according to testimony from former FBI lawyer Lisa Page.

Peter Strzok, the former FBI agent who was dismissed from Mueller's team and later fired over anti-Trump text messages, texted Page in the hours after Comey's firing and said: "We need to open the case we've been waiting on now while Andy is acting," a reference to then-acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe.

Page was pressed on the meaning of the message in her interview with congressional investigators, and she confirmed that the text was related to the Russia investigation into potential collusion.

Page told lawmakers the decision to open the case was not about "who was occupying the director's chair," according to a source. While FBI lawyers limited her answers about the text, she said the text wasn't suggesting that the case couldn't be opened with Comey as director.

I wonder why the investigation could only be opened with "Andy" sitting, temporarily, in the Big Boy Chair.

First, an FBI director who had spectacularly violated all norms (heh) in the Clinton Espionage Act case (and this was reportedly a common take across the bureau and DOJ), and had been lying to and attempting to manipulate a president, is fired - and a conceivable "explanation" is intervention by a foreign power? WTF? By people who we now know had been committing unprecedented crimes in abusing the counter-espionage system and laws to spy on that president's campaign?

Second, the head of counter-intel for the FBI was f***ing carrying on an affair with another senior FBI person - both married? Are you effing kidding me? The CI head agent is compromising himself AND another Bureau official?

As so often with the wreckage of what used to be the US, words fail.

Not in the least. Barky made most of the anti-American and retarded decisions in his junta. He certainly ran things. Sure, he offloaded a lot of the detailed work to comrades who shared his hate of America and Americans but the major things were fully under Barky's control.

You can tell that by seeing how detached from American ways of doing things stuff was run. It took someone with no American sensibilities (Barky) to even think of doing things that way. Shrillary would have loved to have shoved ShrillaryCare down the throats of Americans back in the 90s but she was constrained by the fact that she was actually raised in AMerica. There were things that didn't even occur to her as possible. But for Barky, a third-worlder in all ways, this was not a constraint.

Someone like Barky is EXACTLY the reason the Founders put the "natural born citizen" requirement in for the Presidency. EXACTLY.

163 Yes, Medvedev. Putin's stand-in/sock-puppet for a time (to comply with constitutional requirements ..... well, to appear to comply).

Huck, it's not just Sessions. Christopher Wray. While I'm not privy to the details of any measures being taken inside the bureau (duh), judging by his congressional appearances but especially by his press event following the release of the (itself scandalous) IG report on "Mid-Year Exam", he seems like the farthest thing from what's needed.

He boarded a ship that was ablaze, and holed below the water-line, to any thinking and constitutionally literate American. He proceeded to brag about their recruitment situation, and their intern program.

But Trump is fully accountable for this. By the time he picked Wray, he had had some time and experience to know he couldn't rely on the "system" to provide him with the right personnel. Unless somehow Trump, at that point, did not already appreciate the dire situation at the FBI, his appointment of Wray may be his worst appointment - and a potentially disastrous one.

It's worth remembering that Russia has an economy the size of Italy's.

And that Russia is a regional power with limited foreign policy objectives.

And that while this brain trust was trying to

China is running amok, seeks world domination, and is seriously working to fuck us up. This cabal in fact is promoting China's colonization project by attacking the man who is standing in their way.

260 The FBI Russia thing was there for four reasons:

1) distract the leftist base from the disastrous Hillary run and rigged primaries
2) distract the leftist base from the DNC emails which were almost unbelievably racist, hateful, disgusting, and proved collusion between media and DNC in news reporting
3) energize the base which was completely demoralized and gutted
4) warn anyone who dared back Trump or donated to him that they'd have the full power of the justice department turned on them

It had nothing to do with Trump and Russia, they knew that was all BS already from their previous wiretaps and it was ridiculous to start with, given the Hillary/Russia ties.

265 You know the most amazing part of the saga revealed by this Article? Nothing. Will. Be. Done. About. It. Nothing. Obama conducted surveillance on Donald Trump's campaign. That's the story. As Alonzo Harris once said: "It's now what you know, it's what you can prove."

We KNOW that Obama knew his FBI, CIA and DOJ was conducting surveillance on Trump. Of course he approved it. It's too monumental to have not gone up to that level. To do it, Obama et. al. would not have just "done it." These are seasoned political and intelligence professionals, the Top Men of the genres.

So, like all good lies, they take some truths and treat them as a skeleton on which they build the lies. Trump HAS done business in Russia. Manafort HAS connections with Ukraine government. Trump DID hire a few dudes with "Russia" know how (as you would expect with, you know, a Presidential candidate.). Pair all of this with a completely bogus and sensational "Dossier," have it hand delivered by CIA director (Brennan) and tout it's authorship by a former intelligence officer (and his connections to the "in crowd" in the international intelligence community), and here we are.

And absolutely nothing is going to happen to any of the people that put this in motion or carried it out.

No way. Conducting human and electronic surveillance of the Presidential candidate of the opposing party is among the top 5 no-nos in government. Because of Nixon, the Valerie Jarrett of the world ensure that they are in the know on anything that could reflect poorly on the legacy of her President.

And the political savvy brass in the CIA, DOJ and FBI know this. It's their unspoken duty to report up stuff like THIS, because they have to give Obama a chance to veto the action, and for something like this, it would be this type of conversation: " Sir, this is one of those 'the less you know' the better situations, but if this goes South it could be a deal killer on your legacy. Off the record, here's the overall gameplay and our containment strategy."

Comey wouldn't even confirm who was severely disciplined for the FBI framing Ted Stevens and, literally, interfering with a Senate election. Just, trust us, we totes dealt with that.

Nothing. Is. Going. To. Happen.

Nothing.

Spare me all the people who were fired. Who the hell is in jail.

In 2015, the FBI admitted ADMITTED that for over 20 years nearly every single "expert" in the hair analysis division had lied on the stand. Twenty years. Point blank made up the field of hair analysis. Something like 26 agents. All of which, again, admittedly, committed perjury. Of those cases, 32 were death penalty cases. By the time this was admitted, 14 people had been executed.

To the best of my knowledge, not a single person involved ever saw the second of the inside of a cell for that.

Don't tell me that there will be a house cleaning. There won't be.

Oh and the FBI burnt children to death in Waco, killed Randy Weaver's family, and killed Richard Jewell. It took decades for Richard Jewell to die, but kill him the FBI did.

340 Galactic moral leader and conscience of the universe Mitt has called for Rep. King of IA to resign. I checked briefly the day of this kerfuffle last week and the only statement I saw from King that was "controversial" was his including "white supremacy" in a list of things that shouldn't be controversial - the other things being nationalism, and western civilization. So it made no sense to include "white supremacy" in there, and was incredibly bone-headed, but ..... ginormous scandal?

King of course issued clear standard vigorous clarifications the next day, saying all the normal stuff. But I don't know if there is any more to it than that one stupid but rather minor inclusion of a particular phrase.

For his part, Sen. Scott of SC issued an idiotic statement in response, moronically claiming to believe that statements like King's (again, two words that didn't fit, in an otherwise unobjectionable comment) were the reason the GOP is seen as racist. The stupidity of Scott's comment, its disconnection from decades of slanders having nothing to do with reality or King's quote in a NYT article, was unintentionally ironic and enlightening.

342 Oh, and in other bad Senate news, the World's Greatest Deliberative Body is going for a 3rd try on cloture for some MidEast-related resolution - while Mitch stated previously that the body will not consider any border security-related matter that has not already been accepted by the WH and the House.

It's clearly all pretty academic in many ways by now, but you wouldn't want GOP senators - and especially Dem senators - having to vote on the highest-profile, most important issue of the day, now would you?

To quote Dr Evil, it's breath-taking, actually.

can we designate the entire FBI as "non-essential" by the time of the next shutdown?

My WAG is that the 'insurance policy' is to go whole hog and make damn sure there is documentation linking Obama to it - PDBs, Rice sending the CYA e-mail pointing at Obama one minute before her access was revoked on 20 Jan 2017... the crisis will be so great it would destroy the Federal Government it ever came out.

And there are those who say it did happen but would destroy the country if it ever came out.

The Republican politicians truly believe their voters are racist scum.

348 "...whether Trump's actions seemed to benefit Russia."

Can ANYONE explain this to me? What action has Trump EVER taken that benefits Russia? Last I checked he was sending arms to Ukraine, and upholding sanctions. He is getting NATO to spend more money on arms. He is undercutting their gas line.

Seriously - this is stated as if it is fact, and yet I cannot think for the life me think of a single thing he has ever done to their benefit.

Exhibit A in circular cuck logic. Quick flow chart:

1. Scott is a black Republican senator and derided as an Uncle Tom because the GOP is racist.

2. To prove he isn't an Uncle Tom, Scott denounces Republican statements as racist to show he is independent.

3. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Scott is a fucking idiot. We lost the House but a shitload of Republicans like Scott comprised the majority. It's time to purge these types from the Senate. This assumes the full-blown coup underway allows another free election.

350 It is a great agency. Seriously. Or WAS a great agency. And Obama, Comey, and the left wrecked it.

For get about political allegiance for a moment, 20 years ago, no FBI person would be caught dead EVER admitting to having any political views at all. They certainly wouldn't be having meetings at FBI headquarters, or send voluminous e-mails and text messages about hating the president. A big no-no.

The fact these things even existed show me a complete lack of thought, and a complete lack of fear .

351 @333:

Pretty well the same here. When there were no repercussions for the show massacre at Waco, the United States officially became a grubby ass police empire. It's rather amusing "our" State Department denounces other nations much less violent and corrupt.

It's all become clear. Obama's administration wanted to conduct surveillance of Trump, needed plausible deniability and Hillary's dossier gave them that. The Dossier was never supposed to go public, and wouldn't have had Hillary won. But when Trump won, the bad actors knew that Trump would find out about the surveillance. So, they had to make public their plausibly deniable justification. But they did one better, and weaponized against Trump. Best defense is a good offense and all.

Plus, they had a fishing line in the water with Mueller's investigation. Maybe something WOULD come up that would retroactively justify their behavior.

But now, investigation about over and they've got nothing to justify the underlying surveillance of the first instance. So, the final act of this play is for the bad actors to claim that the allegations were serious enough to demand investigation. That's now over, nothing to see here, and by the way Trump failed to file a building permit in 1987. Move on.

353 So let me get this straight. FIB employees are afforded attorneys and run of the mill, everyday defendants are not?!? That sucks, and I won't even mention a donkey.
