"The other day, I saw some progressive twitter lunatic spewing her idiocy to the world at large which consisted of her shouting 'Fetal tissue is not a person' over and over again like a 2-year-old throwing a tantrum as if repetition would somehow make it true. Because, actually, it is. A person, I mean. A fetus has its own body, as defined by its own DNA, which is not the same as the DNA of either parent. It has a gender. It's not long before it has brain waves, a beating heart, blood, unique fingerprints, and a functioning nervous system. About the only thing it doesn't have is a birthday. Yet. Of course, if you're a progressive, I guess 'fetal tissue' doesn't become a person until it first votes for a Democrat."

Easier and faster healing than expected, which he attributes to the grace of God and prayer. Please continue to pray as doctors try to determine his current status and how to treat his him. Job Needs:
Kallisto has part-time job. She thanks everybody for prayers. Please continue to pray as she needs a full-time job.
MikeTheMoose was laid off from his company of 10 years. Is a control engineer. Needs job.

Update:
Tbodie came through surgery to deal with atrial fibrillation Thanks for prayers) but they won’t know if it’s successful for about eight weeks, Tbodie thanks people for their prayers and asks for continued prayer that their condition be taken care of

Buck’s sister also has breast cancer which has metastasized to bones. Also, Buck himself asked for prayers that bladder cancer not progress to worse type.
12/24-Renningantx asked for prayers for his uncle Jimmy who had been cancer free for 12 years but aggressive cancer has returned and he has a doctors apt this week. Prayers for complete healing.
12/24 Pale Riders brother was in hospital with intestinal blockage but Fen hasn’t heard any updates
12/30-LadyL asked for prayers for healing for a dear friend, Jean, who has had a recurrence of Mantle Cell Lymphoma, which is an aggressive cancer and hard to treat

12/30-MyShariaMoor asked for prayers for his GF Robin who is an occasional lurker. Robin has an hard life and an abusive husband but come through it all. She became a deck hand on a water taxi and did such a good job they want to promote her, but course work and licensing to become a captain costs money she doesn’t have at the moment. 1/14-Molly K asked for prayers for her daughter, 17 weeks pregnant. Baby is expected to pass in 2 to 3 weeks. If by some miracle, she can make it to 24 weeks, they can do a C-section and possible surgery. Lymphatic and circulatory systems didn’t hook up right and baby is filling up with fluid.
1/16-NorthernLurker, this Thursday (1/17) will be 1 year anniversary of Faye, his wife’s, death. Worst year of NL life, Prayers for continued healing and comfort. Also needs job or business, sense of direction and vision and ambition in terms of future occupation.
1/16-troyriser's mother judy has inoperable lung cancer. Doesn't want chemo or radiation because she is frail and doesn't think she'll survive them. Doesn't want to take pain meds because she wants to enjoy her family with last days unclouded. Troyriser asked for prayers for ease in her passing.
1/16-prayers for grammie winger who is facing the loss of her eye due to ongoing health issues.

Eddie Lampert has won a bankruptcy auction for Sears with a plan that will keep the retailer in business and seek to save tens of thousands of jobs, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions.

Lampert's bid prevailed over competing proposals from liquidators that would have forced the 126-year-old department store chain to shut down and sell its assets. The bid is valued at over $5 billion and represents an improvement of more than $150 million over the hedge fund manager's previous offer, the person said, asking not to be identified because the talks are confidential.

Reuters also reported early Wednesday morning that Lampert had succeeded in keeping Sears open with a sweetened takeover bid of more than $5 billion.

The campaign tells the story, but this is my situation:

I am partially handicapped, with limited mobility and only 25% use of my strong right arm. Up until June, I was still able to drive for Uber, and did so for over a year. I was deactivated as a driver at that time.

My only family is a brother who I was helping financially while working. My "friends", I found, consisted of those from a marriage of 17 years which ended three years ago. I have been turned down for welfare benefits because, as reported, I made too much money this last year to qualify. I applied for SSDI, and am awaiting their first denial, as I'm told this is their standard practice.

While working, I had built up a small reserve of money, one that was used up recently to pay an oral surgeon to treat a badly abscessed tooth.

I have been everywhere in applying for jobs, and in the past 6 months have only gotten 3 days of good freelance work, and 5 days of temp work. I will find something, as failure is not an option. In the meantime, I am looking at homelessness very soon. This is the reason for my request. Anything you could do would be greatly appreciated.

I know people who thought the remake wasn't *bad*. Not necessarily good, but not *bad*.

What I mostly heard from people just talking about the movie is that had it been a sequel featuring the daughters of the original cast in a new adventure it might have had a chance. First, it doesn't *undo* the beloved franchise.

But even mediocre movies are sometimes fun. (I haven't seen it, though.)

What really ruins the fun is the destructive vibe of the marketing that doesn't seem to ever mention FUN but spends bunches of time explaining ... woke'splaining, fem'splaing... whatever... how woke, progressive, feminist, BETTER this new thing is and how evil you are if you're not just as excited about tearing down the old as the directors and social-media marketers are.

It's weird to me how malls haven't tried to re purpose away from outlet stores. I think malls need to be places where you can do things, not just buy stuff. In addition to restaurants and movie theaters, I haven't seen many malls try to bring in businesses that aren't just stores. Things like indoor mini golf, arcades, escape rooms, etc.

Stores can't compete with online shopping, but people (including young people) still like to have things to do in person.

I think he's more interested in telling stories that interest him than anything else, which is a good quality from a filmmaker to have. It's not he recipe for mega success, but any director who's chiefly chasing that has other things than story at the heart of their decisions.

The biggest thing with larger productions for directors is the size of the management aspect (which grows significantly) and the relationships with executives. Directors (like Josh Trank) who got shoved from the indie world to the mega-budget blockbuster world have never managed teams that big nor dealt with executives in any significant way.

Rietman, having spent so long making smaller films, can probably adapt his management style to a larger team with fewer hiccups, and, because he's developed his own narrative voice, will be less likely to break under executive pressure.

Not a guarantee, but I think it's very good reasons for hope.

I have never watched many VOY episodes, but when I have, I found Mulgrew to be quite believable as a captain. Not many actresses could pull that off, and I don't think Bujold would have been one of 'em.

Now as to the character's job performance, I dunno.

The chief problem is that it's not really a coherent story. It's all over the place. The director's style is to set up a camera and let funny people be funny, which does lead to a few laughs here and there, but those moments clash really hard with the actual story.

So no, it's not worthless, but it's also not even a mediocre time at the movies.

In any of my top 20 comedies, I can spout off somewhere between a dozen quotes to the entire movie. Heck, even the average ones have a pretty memorable quotable line or two.

What's the funniest line from the Ghostbusters remake?

I saw it at least once (at the behest of my wife), and I can't remember a single joke. That's not good for a comedy.

Yeah they have a ton of real estate that has massive taxes and expenses, but the places are a ghost town and more than half the shops are empty. I feel kinda depressed when I go to a mall now, compared to what it was like when I was young.

Its not that you cannot find shops to put in a mall, they just have to be stuff people prefer not to buy online, and you have to have a delivery service. A place people can go to, find what they want, then get delivered to their homes, or stuff they only can really buy in person, like pets.

The real problem is that America was completely over-stored. I read an article that said America had 10x more stores per capita than Germany, which is not exactly a consumer desert. Combine that with the relative ease of shopping online and the abysmal quality of most retail employees and you've got a surefire recipe for commercial death.

I've only seen stills from that film, but yes, GB is my personal image of what Anne Boleyn would have looked like. Not a true classic beauty, Anne . . . but there was something memorable, arresting, and magnetic about her looks that got to Henry (and he'd been quite a ladies' man for a while at that point). I found her irritating. But then, I pretty much found that entire series impossible to enjoy.

The captain that I wanted was Geordi's mother. She was a captain in one episode of TNG and then her ship was lost in that episode so when I first heard about Voyager I thought of her. I don't know what the actresses name was though. I felt she had incredible "presence" on screen.

I found her irritating. But then, I pretty much found that entire series impossible to enjoy.

The captain that I wanted was Geordi's mother. She was a captain in one episode of TNG and then her ship was lost in that episode so when I first heard about Voyager I thought of her. I don't know what the actresses name was though. I felt she had incredible "presence" on screen.

The liquidators wanted to buy out pieces of the holding company. Kenmore appliances, Sears service departments, the auto and tire stores, etc. and the real estate.

Those would have been sold then to some other company and folded into them or simply shuttered, removing whatever competition they currently are providing against these companies.

Lamperts bid will allow almost 400 Sears stores to remain open and the employees to retain their jobs, For now.....

If you ever watched the movie, Pretty Woman , Richard Gere's character has gotten rich buying companies out of insolvency and then taking them apart and selling them in pieces. He comments that one of the first companies he did that to was his father's , to whom he was estranged. He says his shrink told him he was cured of his resentment of his father for cheating on his mother.

Someone is making money on this deal. I'm not sure it's Lampert, he seems to be an idiot, although he has managed to put $5B together to buy out Sears assets and has apparently gotten the bankruptcy court to agree to it.

Her Mennonite Sect hair was distracting to me as well. Just not a good choice for the role. In fact, I didn't like ANY of the cast except the holo-doctor. He was interesting and likeable.

That's been the flaw of most of the Star Trek shows, that they missed about the first show. You LIKED all the guys in the first show. There was almost no one to actually like or want to be around in any of the sequels until Enterprise, which they ruined with the godawful soap opera credits song and sequence, and the lame overarching time war storyline.

The first 3 seasons of Voyager were essentially fan fiction for the show runner Jeri Taylor. Janeway was her stand-in.

Once Taylor left the show after season 3, the show improved significantly. It's really night and day the difference.

She could have gone home in the pilot. Instead, she stayed behind to make sure that a race that definitely won't last a year on their own, gets their chance to starve to death slowly instead of using the power source to give them enough food to take Voyager home.

The race are people who have lifespans of 3 years total, have never provided for themselves, relying entirely on the Caretaker for power and sustenance. The Caretaker is also dying, and providing the last of his power to them, which Janeway could have used to go home.

Yeah, it would have been a bit heartless to use the power for her own ends, but any more heartless than giving a hopeless race only one more year of life?

The Carthaginians were practitioners of child sacrifice, which the Romans viewed mostly as an oddity. Also a semitic group iirc. Human sacrifice seems to have been pretty widespread, I've got an old chinese text from the end of the Warring States period which mentions that people used to do human sacrifices.

It would have to be local, the mega delivery places like Amazon need too much space. But a lot of local stores deliver now.

I could envision a shop being more like an old timey store where you go in, the stuff is on shelves behind the counter and he gets you what you need as you go down a list. A few things on display out front. The shop would have some stuff, but the bulk of it would be in the warehouse and they do most of their business online.

Speaking of movies,Vietnam does Top Gun.

Colonel Tomb was a really good pilot in Vietnam, but other than him they were basically sitting ducks for our pilots.

Consider: They could easily have had a Ghostbuster franchise in another city. Imagine, say, Ghostbusters: Miami. Or Ghosbusters; New Orleans. Or Ghostbusters: Chicago. Or Ghostbusters: Los Angeles. It could have been a series of related films, similar in the premise (busting ghosts) but different, given the makeup of each team (say, Cuban-Americans in Miami, or blacks and white ethnics in Chicago) and the history and culture of the city in which it's located. It could have been original, fun, and (possibly) lucrative.
But noooooooo! They took the worst possible course, of trying to remake a comedy classic with a weaker script and cast. And then, when it flopped, attributing their failure to the sexism of the audience.

Every society since humanity came into being has had capital punishment and war but that doesn't negate the sanctity of human life as a universal human concept. It just means that in some circumstances, that rule is considered possible to violate if necessary.

An unwanted baby would be placed on or near the town's refuse dump, but there were always people watching those sites. Unwanted babies, even from well off families, would be picked up and raised as slaves to whoever grabbed them, who then could be sold for a profit. Not really much of a life to look forward to, of course.

I'd disagree with that. As long as we allow Muslims to emigrate here, ANY terrorist or ISIS supporter or agent can pretend to be a "refugee" and then act out once he got here. The problem is not ISIS per se, but Muslim immigration. So I don't think there's any reason for the troops to remain.

Liberal theologians have an interesting take on the Abraham passage: that some people had adopted the pagan habit of sacrificing the firstborn son and Jewish priests were trying to get them to stop it by creating this story about Abraham in which God puts a stop to human sacrifice and substitutes animal sacrifice for it.

Same with the bizarre Exodus 4 passage in which Moses' wife has to circumcise their firstborn son to stop God from killing Moses. The intent again may have been to deter human sacrifice. "Don't kill the baby. Just circumcise."

I don't mean to offend anyone with liberal theories, but you've got to admit, both these passages are very, very odd and you kind of feel there's some piece of the puzzle you haven't been told.

Absolutely. Any Jew who simply ignores the rabbi Yeshua is depriving himself. He was a radical, with ideas that were radical. Many of them were correct. We just don't worship him as a god, or think he was the real Messiah.

You suppose there's some other messiah in which the Gentiles will hope? The Jewish treatment of Christ I find odd(which seems to treat him as the worst person ever), since at worst he would be a blasphemous priest who successfully convinced the Gentiles to worship God and accept moral standards more strict than the Noahadic laws(which I understand Jews believe is the standard to which non Jews are bound). Someguy, Jesus in the Gospels was the leader of one of the many Jewish sects in Israel, and his primary ministry in his life was for the Jews. So it's not surprising that if he was preaching what the Sanhedrin considered heresy, they'd try to stop it somehow.

Jesus sent forth the 70 (Mt 10?) to preach only in Israel. He told the Canaanite woman "I've been sent only to the lost sheep of Israel". In the sermon on the mount he says a few times "Do not be like the gentiles who do x, y, z".

He does occasionally interact with Gentiles: the Samaritan woman at the well (John) and the Roman centurion whose servant he healed. But this is the exception rather than the rule.

The Apostle Paul was the Apostle to the Gentiles. He is the one who primarily said "Gentiles don't have to be circumcised, keep kosher, etc.". Read Galatians.
