It's not like implying that all masculinity is evil with a term like Toxic Masculinity (combined with the predictable behavior of the Left to extend definitions in very predictable directions) would rub people the wrong way.

Seriously, if the whole toxic masculinity thing had started 20 years ago with the idea of limiting dangerous behaviors more common in men than women, it might have taken a hold in the larger culture. After decades, though, of constant mission creep in the culture wars, I think normals have gotten wise and are less willing to give opening inches.

68 Interesting painting. For all the color and busy background and dress, the focus is absolutely on the lady, especially her face. Plus, her expression, which is beautifully done, is very attractive.

The only disturbing part is her arms and hands seem too long and out of proportion. Still, it's her face that captures the viewer's attention before anything else. This is one of the livliest one person portraits I've seen. It is very effective.

Colors are cool, the girl is pretty, and the entire thing just evokes fun. I'd hang this one above a nice walk-up bar or something.

Probably the first painting of a person that I've ever liked. And I like it a lot. I'd buy a print of this if I had somewhere to hang it. But I've already got a fine Dogs Playing Poker collection in my home office, and some charcoal drawings of various poker hands above the bar.

But I'm gonna' keep this one in mind as I walk around the house. To me - it's that good.

Interiors and exterior trim was designed by fashio design icons such as Cartier, Givenchy (I think), and Bill Blass.

195 All the polls I have seen but one quoted by a Faux Democrat low-boy said the public was on Trump's side on this one. I haven't posted any of them because I think all polls are BS. After 2016 nobody should believe any poll.

Posted by: Vic at January 16, 2019 09:59 AM (mpXpK)

196 Yep.

The polls are axing "who do you blame for the shutdown", which say 55-25 or so Trump-Dems. And that makes sense since Trump has basically said this is my shutdown, fuck all y'all.

But blaming Trump for it and opposing Trump for doing it are two separate things.
Posted by: Lurking Lurker at January 16, 2019 09:57 AM (gpinW)

Strictly speaking, I "blame" Trump for the shutdown too. If it weren't for him personally, the Republicans would certainly compromise and give the Dems what they want.

However, since I view the shutdown as a good thing, "blame" and "praise" really the same thing to me.

For instance, the poll for "the most influential woman in the world" gives the responder a limited selection of leftist icons.

People aren't just filling in the blank; they are choosing pre-selected "influentional woman in the world."

So that's the phrasing, if you will.
Which leads us to the Sample. Most of us wouldn't even bother responding to such as stupid poll. But We Don't Count. The only votes that count are the respondents, i.e., those who AGREE with the poll!

And that's how make a bullshit poll to favor a leftist.

It's trite, but you have to want to. I have a brother who some serious addictions (don't want to go into detail). He landed in jail for a few weeks due to a minor infraction and had a rough time of it (they withheld some simple medical care) but came out reasonably clean.

He liked how much better he felt and decided to really give getting clean a go. He relapsed once or twice, but never seriously and came back out of it. Things are looking better.

It starts from within, I think, which makes it really hard if they don't want to or don't care. Once they do care, though, the turnaround can be rapid and dramatic. If it's okay, I'll pray that he comes out *wanting* to clean up. If he does, he will if my experience is remotely normal.

Might he find God. For this is the way the forlorn find salvation. Might he find The Way on his own, as prompting of others to a Higher Power often ends in despair and frustration.

Might you and yours find solace through prayer, as His will continues apace.

As someone whose daily regimen is a never-ending cycle of uncertainty, I empathize with your unobtainable grasp of anything other than The Ether.

For it is through doubt and despair that we find hope and faith.

If you'd like to email, my address is in my nic. It is NOT a "link". Simply hover over it to send it to me.

The Impressionists were refused entry into the Salon art show, but were so popular that Napoleon III established a "Salon des Refuses". It was the first major exhibition of non-Academic work and launched the careers of many Impressionists. Edouard Manet, a member of the Academy, choose to show with the Refuses, signaling his support and adding stature to their work.

You think too small.

The issue isn't that the banks are private and free to do as they please, it's that the PEOPLE have the freedom to put their money in banks or not, instead of using it for the socially appropriate causes (such as fighting climate change).

Cut out the middle man altogether. Don't just nationalize the banks, but dictate what people can and can't use their money for.

I think they're afraid of losing the sympathetic narrative talking-point if it goes on too long. I mentioned in the last thread that they want to make hay with the "we're on the side of the 800,000 workers--and their children--who were tortured with hunger by a heartless president, and so we had to give up our reasonable position to save them from his bloodthirsty depredations" martyr-stance.

If they don't time it right, and stage the backdown correctly, they'll look as complicit as Trump in "hurting the working class (that, incidentally, appears to be the POTUS electoral margin anymore)."

Entertainment Weekly has learned exclusively that Jason Reitman will direct and co-write an upcoming film set in the world that was saved decades previously by the proton pack-wearing working stiffs in the original 1984 movie, which was directed by his father, Ivan Reitman.

"I've always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans," Reitman says. "This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the '80s happened in the '80s, and this is set in the present day."

585 I think that Democrats are afraid of losing something larger than this fight over the wall.

---------

It's simple. They came out of the gate with everything they had in their power. No negotiations, guns blazing.

If they lose, they've lost all the power they gained by winning the House. They're in survival mode, now.

Trump understands power and aggression. They're very much not used to this at all.

Jason Reitman is an underappreciated and very quality director with intimate ties to the original series.

He's yet to do anything remotely big budgeted, but he's cut his teeth really well on smaller movies for over a decade.

I think there's solid room for hope.

624 Loved the Morning Report article on how progs think of illegals as surrogate children/pets. I've had similar thoughts, but this guy really thought it through. They think of them as useful idiots. By allowing them to arrive unfettered in mass numbers, provide them with housing , food, medical care, etc. then start pounding the table that these poor people living here should have voting rights and citizenship. Amnesty and instant Democrat voters for decades.

The model is there, i.e. black communities. Put them in self imposed communities due to constant drumbeat of racism that they can only fight by living together, then use that same claim of racism to tell them for decades that only Democrats will continue to provide them with what they need to survive, and moreover , won't judge them on their decisions ( unlike racist whitey) or insist they improve their lot in life, and they will have Democrat voters for life.

What is it, like 90% of blacks vote for Democrats? John James, a black man , couldn't get a majority of blacks to vote for him in Detroit because he wasn't a Democrat, is a perfect example of this emotional blocking of a minority.
And the Dems are doing the same thing to Latinos.

"This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the '80s happened in the '80s, and this is set in the present day."

"Yeah, we're going to make Trump a demon from another dimension and we will have 4 diverse individuals to stop him from destroying the vision of America. We'll have the super genius, ex-military black guy, who's the leader---natch! Then we'll have the brilliant and feisty female computer programmer who identifies as a lesbian. Then we'll have the transgender, 11-year old whose dancing entrances demons. Then we have the token White soy boy that's just looking for a paycheck. He'll be in charge of brewing the coffee and bringing it to the real Ghostbusters. We can't lose!"

Meat yes. Bread, no. Give us this day, our daily bread? Skip it for a long while. Inflammatory.

659 I hope people don't think that Trump doesn't consider polls. He may drill down and consider only the conservative side but he definitely considers which way the wind is blowing.
