Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Romney/Establishment Attack on Trump Is All About Open Borders, and Always Has BeenI've wanted to write about this myself for a long while. Dave Reaboi makes different points than I have in mind, but he makes the basic point: all this shrieking about "character" by the neocons, liberal Republicans, and Establishment types is just some ideological camouflage to disguise the real objection to Trump, that is, that it's racist to oppose Open Borders. They don't want to say that -- they believe it intensely, but they don't want to admit they share yet another key ideological premise with their close cousins on the globalist hard left -- so they pretend this is all about a rather small difference in free trade and the tactics to achieve actual free trade and, of course, about "character." It's not. It's just that these people have such low character -- they are inveterate liars and are long practiced in misrepresenting their believes and their intentions to the voters they con into voting them into power -- that they lie without a thought about it. They will go on lying about it. Bill Kristol, Mitt Romney, Jonah Goldberg, almost all of National Review, etc., will continue playing hide-the-ball regarding their real views on immigration -- which are open borders in all but name, just keep doing what we're doing, which is virtually nothing (which is why the open borders people endorse our current #FakeNews immigration enforcement) -- acting as perfect cowards in refusing to clearly announce their actual beliefs and preferences and pretending this is all merely a dispute about "character." Well it is -- in a way. They believe that anyone who opposes their de facto open borders position is a racist and therefore has bad "character." They just won't say so. They've grown accustomed to lying to their readers, constituents, and voters about just how monstrously racist and evil they believe them to be. They only gain the courage to state these beliefs forthrightly when, like Max Boot, they officially defect to the liberal Democrat camp. But your character is bad. Their character -- all lies and cowardice and self-dealing -- is sterling. And super-Christian. Just ask them!
We've got now a significant minority in the country--and a powerful majority in elite institutions like media and academia--that believes we don't have a right to restrict immigration into the US at all, because it's racist. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

I'm repeating this from Illi;
That comes way before raiding capital rich companies and modernizing them with all sorts of "efficiencies". Moving to China to use slaves, freely pollute, avoid US taxes for military and the overhead of our heavy welfare state ... is really not about efficiency, is it? Restructuring can happen without selling the American Made company to globalists, who then haul it off to their chop shop and move pieces overseas. (or leave it here and demand Americans train their H1B replacements). But I'd support a wholesale restructuring of the bloated federal bureaucracy, which has voted in constant increases, and never needs to balance a budget, because the feds tax and spend, then spend trillions beyond the taxes. And they will raid your own house (or your lawyer's house if you get in their way). When did Mitt ever suggest making BigGov more efficient by downsizing and "restructuring". If he had anything to bring to the table, it would have been the lesson he "taught" those workers he put out of a job. "I'm just streamlining" .... but never with government. Mitt is just another commie. Posted by: illiniwek at January 02, 2019 12:18 PM (Cus5s) this is how it is Posted by: bah at January 02, 2019 01:31 PM (zy5Ai) 20

From a libertarian point of view, I can understand the idea of essentially open borders. Free flow of labor and all of that.
But we don't live in a libertarian country. If we had no welfare, very low taxes, and the cost of labor was not artificially inflated with taxes, insurance, and compliance fees, then the "eh, if there's a shortage of labor, letting in more people will smooth that out, if there's a surplus of labor, people will leave" economic argument would make more sense to me. In our current state of affairs, it just sounds fucking nuts. Of course, that's not even the argument that's being made here. Not really. The argument is two-fold: 1) We aren't having enough kids to support our ever ballooning welfare state, especially social security / medicare / medicaid. and 2) Only racists would be against letting people "who look differently than them" move in to the country. #2 is offensive and not even worth arguing about it. #1, sure -- we can talk about it. My solution isn't to bring a whole new level of dupes in to the Pyramid Scheme though, my solution would be to try to begin dismantling and unraveling the entire thing. But if you begin to have any conversations about that, the left and open border types pivot back to #2. Posted by: Harry Paratestes at January 02, 2019 01:36 PM (GBteo) 59

Romney is not a Christian.
The Bible is very clear that open borders is evil. Psalm 86:9 All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name. (God made the nations.) Genesis 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. (God wants to bless the nations.) Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! (Lucifer's fall from heaven weakened the nations.) Therefore what is good for a Nation is Good and what weakens a Nation is evil. Immigration without assimilation weakens a Nation and is therefore Evil. The Bible is clear on another matter. The tower of Babel, gathered the many Nations into one place and blurred them all into one. God, who is without sin, destroyed it, therefore we know building a Tower of Babel is evil What is Immigration with assimilation? It is literally gathering people from alll the nations and making them into one, yes?Well the Bible says that is evil. Build the damn wall. I wonder if any of these experts have ever visited Mexico. My wife and I along group of friends would rent a villa and spend a couple of weeks just outside of Puerto Vallarta back when it was somewhat safe down there. Here's one of the things: I knew who Trump was when I voted for him. I knew he was a womanizer and did business with shady characters because he's in NYC and in the gambling and hotel business.
He's the first man I ever voted for who I knew what he was. The rest are pretenders and liars and no more moral than Trump but will never show you that side until they are elected and even then lie about what they are doing. So, here's a big ol' fuck you to Mitt. Posted by: huerfano at January 02, 2019 01:40 PM (pqc4s) 87
It's old news that Trump brings out his enemies' true self, but the 2016 nomination race really provided clarity on immigration. Trump went to one extreme while the 16 other candidates . . . didn't budge an inch. Not one of them chose to seize the middle ground to differentiate himself from the pack while still leaving room to say he was much more reasonable than crazy Trump.

How's this counter-argument: Open borders and unchecked immigration to the West is a profoundly racist stance
After all, who is willing to immigrate - especially on a shoestring? Who is willing and able to make a dangerous trip with little or no backstop? The strong, that's who. Also the smart. Our policy of unchecked immigration ensures that the West ends up with *all* of the third world's smartest and strongest. We'll get some vile duds, too, of course, but we often get their cream. This policy withholds their talents (strength and intelligence) from their own countries. This ensures that their own countries remain poor and ignorant. Unchecked immigration to the West is in essence a third-world brain drain and helps guarantee that the third world remains powerless and helpless - vassal serf states of the West. Look at the Arab world. Arab intelligence as a race globally hasn't declined, but national average intelligence in the Arab world has - sometimes drastically (like in Yemen). Take your "it's racist to be opposed to unchecked immigration" argument and cram it up your ass. Two can play this game. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 02, 2019 01:42 PM (I2dne) 102

Oh, let me count the ways I absolutely hate everything Mitt Romney. Here is the deal on immigration:
Rule #1: You cannot manage what you cannot control. Thus, the government must do whatever is necessary (e.g. wall) to close the border so we can manage immigration effectively. Rule #2: How many immigrants are admitted and what status they have once admitted (guest worker or path to citizenship) is the subject of legitimate debate. I'm open to hear arguments on this front, provided that it's made clear that organized importation of Progressive voters is not a legitimate basis for admitting new citizens. Rule #3: Progressives want to import Progressive voters in numbers significant enough to achieve political victories for Progressives. "Open Borders" married with South-of-the-Border community organizing is the surest path to this goal, which is why the Left is has been working on it at "Ahead Flank" for 20 years, with results now registering the upper range of the Pareto curve. In short, this strategy is and has been wildly successful, and is even more so each passing day. Frankly, I think we were already too late about 5 years ago. Rule #4: Because of Rule #3, Progressives will never agree to Rule #1 or Rule #2. Rule #5: GOP elected politicians should have seen the mortal threat of Rule #3 fifteen years ago. They have no excuse for missing it now. It's unmissable. That GOP elected politicians don't do something about it can only be explained by money-in-politics: Big donors want open borders for business reasons and because many Big Donors are progressive and want to achieve the long-game of Progressive victory. GOP leaders are, and have been for years, lazy as fuck when it comes to raising money for GOP elections. It's far easier to raise large $ from small pool of donors than to raise large $ from individual donors. Bottomline: Immigration issue won't get solved on GOP side until GOP leadership determines that maintaining status quo on fundraising strategy won't result in getting re-elected. That is all. Why should they be any more honest or courageous than European politicians? They turn a blind eye to rising crime and sexual assault, even blaming the victims. They stole from bank accounts to stave off financial ruin (haircuts). YUP.
AOC had out some tweets today about her wish list and it's the usual free stuff for everyone crap and my reply was, you know what? Good on her for putting out there directly what she believes and then trying, bless her, to defend her beliefs. At least she's freaking *honest* about what she wants. Let's have that fight. That's a fight worth having and we should have it openly. It's Trump saying to Schumer and Pelosi hey let's have the argument about the wall right here and right now. This is important. Hell, Trump is right, without sovereignty over our borders we have no country at all. It doesn't get much more fundamental than that. So let's have that argument but let's do it openly and with no prevarications. I need to be less energy efficient and put together a list of all the laws that have been passed since the Kennedy changes to immigration in the 1960's (1962?) and how many of them included, as statutory text, the requirement for a physical barrier. Because Build The Wall is not some brand new demand. There have been multiple pieces of legislation passed over several decades stating that just such a wall should be built. And then no money is ever appropriated for it. Stop. Lying. Say what you mean. Look, for all that I loathe David French, at least he's honest that he thinks he's an actual Christian and I'm not because ew Trump. That may be utterly Pharastical but it's honest. It's back to the but he fights sneering. Yes, Trump fights. Because there are things worth fighting for. Romney and his ilk appear to be the only things worth fighting are other Republicans. My comment two threads ago was willowed, but Romney the Corporate Raider was really not about making business better an more streamlined, it was about stealing the capital from companies that didn't leverage heavily into (risky) debt.
The raiders collected that cash, and took the company to their chop shop, and sold the pieces into Asia where they could use slaves (like the good old days) .. and they could freely pollute ... not deal with human rights lawyers or our legacy retirement costs. Nothing brilliant about that .. it was extraction of wealth into the hands of leveraged gamblers (TooBigToFail or Jail). These Corzine type gamblers had DC bought and paid for ... paid to ignore the will of the people, and to ignore the future of our liberty, to ignore crimes of the hedge funds (The Big Short). Globalism was sold to US as "Free Trade will save the World", and we now see just how free it made China and other commie regimes. (and how unfree America has now become, as evidenced by the universities or media). The globalists are now exposed ... but they have the money and power to not care ... even some of the leftists are beginning to "get it" to some degree. This is where the "Importing Revolution" comes in: One sign of an imperial government is that it does what it wishes with whole populations. . . The motives behind moving whole populations via executive fiat break down into two main categories. One is to prevent revolution and unrest by moving and quarantining what are considered indigestible peoples in order to weaken their resistance to the powers that be. . . But there is a second reason for moving people around, and that is to foster revolution by actively promoting unrest. The goal is to achieve "fundamental transformation" of a country by tearing down existing structures, replacing them with a new order of government. New population = new problems that require *their* desired solutions. This is what Obama started with the unaccompanied minors shenanigans - think of how much new government was implemented to respond to that. Posted by: Lizzy at January 02, 2019 02:01 PM (W+vEI) 224

Here is an effective solution to the Immigration Debate:
(1) For time being, accept "Open Borders" married with community organized importation of immigrants that will vote in mass for one of the political parties. (2) Counter the Progressive's South-of-the-Border voter importation plan by sending weekly cruise ships to a targeted foreign jurisdiction whose immigrants will vote GOP by large percentages. Bring these voters back to America and follow the Progressive playbook. Let them off the ship, but give them GOP voter registration forms as they disembark, etc. Settle these immigrants in Florida, Texas, Virginia, Colorado, Ohio, Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan and New Hampshire (in this order, as needed to effect elections). (3) Strategy #2 needs to be implemented with enough speed to counter the effect of the Progressive's similar strategy for South-of-the-Border, now in effect for at least 20-years (how many? 40M immigrants? More?) So.....foreign candidates? Poland? Bulgaria? South Africa? Australia? Russia? I like eastern bloc countries because in the current Meh Mueller environment, Trump's importation of 40M Russian satellite citizens would literally drive the Progressives INSANE. Put in a Keynesian economic argument, if labor is kept artificially cheap, companies will be able to be more profitable, which will boost the GDP. Which leaves out 2 huge parts of the equation: 1) lots of american citizens get fucked in that system where labor is kept artificially cheap 2) taxes and welfare can't be ignored here. The bottom 40% of income earners pay little / no tax, and receive a net benefit from the government. Nearly all of the illegal immigrants fall, and likely will continue to fall, in this category of bottom 40% of income earners. we subsidize the illegals so coastal "elites" can have cheap maids (with whom Hillary shares confidential). But they use more social services than most ... free health care means people use it more ... (Australia found even a $5 copay slowed down overuse).
Then the money the illegals make (many do work pretty hard, but also drink and drive a lot) ... the extra money gets sent back to family in Honduras to subsidize the narco states. (*only caveat is that Obama put the South-of-the-Border Progressive voter importation strategy on steroids for 8-years, and cemented the community organizing component of this strategy to great effect, continuing to this day.... underlining the 4-star emergency of the Open Border issue). Had Mitt Romney been elected in 2012, he would have permanently moved the GOP to the left (settling on slightly right of Pelosi/Schumer), including, most importantly, the Left's Open Border Voter Importation strategy. Would not have progressed as far/fast as Obama efforts, but if Romney had been the architect of a less-successful effort, it would have destroyed organized GOP opposition because Romney would have signed "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" thus cementing the Progressive's strategy and we could not reasonably expect any further action to prevent the South America Socialist take-over of the US, to be complete in the next 15 years or so. With Obama's defeat of Romney, this issue stayed alive, it was the #1 issue that got Trump elected, and we're still in the fight, even it still losing it. Ace. You're right.
What's essentially happening is a Very Bad combo of: - Intra-WyPipo competition, wherein Our Betters are tired of having to compete with us on any front. - Elites who have hired some really nice, really cheap Amerinds for their estates and houses, and really like them way way WAY better than, well, than us and - The fact that our FedGov is a massive pyramid scheme, and we're running out of warm bodies to keep it remotely running. I remember posting here ages ago about walking up Broad Street just for the heck of it, from the nice part of South Philly to the nice part of Center City. You go thru quite a large slum. And back then (five years ago? a little more?) I noted how much of these slums were empty. just rows and rows of houses and no people. And yet supposedly in Philly they were voting for Dems at massive rates! It really really didn't seem believable, the numbers, at all (on many levels). Now go thru that same nabe, and you will see lots of people. None of them are legal. All of them are "voting" at very high rates, however. Look! Like magic, the Dem Machine is believeable, again. And no one is claiming that destroying an army in battle is genocide. We agree 100%. It is also folly to claim that today's words cannot be used to refer to past events. The entire English language did not exist back then and we probably agree that it's silly to say English words that didn't exist back then can't be used to describe something from the, epic of Gilgamesh, or ancient Greece, and others. We can even narrow it down to just the Amalekites, who God ordered Saul to kill to the man woman, child, and even livestock. If Romney had tore into Obama and attacked his policies and persona like they do Trump's persona, OK at least you're consistent and I can give you some points for doing both.
But no, they were all hands off on Obama beyond a few minor criticisms of some policies, and attack Trump like he ran over their puppy. And that's the problem I cannot get past." This. Posted by: RM at January 02, 2019 02:38 PM (U3LtS) 500
Let me put it this way: social security started paying out on day 1. To people who had never paid in a cent.
It was always about current working generation paying for retired generation. It required an exponential growth in the workforce to maintain itself, which is obviously unreasonable to assume. So what? We're long dead. We happily accepted the political gain and we aren't around to take the political heat. Posted by: founders of the SS scam at January 02, 2019 02:38 PM (e1q4h) 501

[Though I do have to wonder how a "Republican" ever manager to get elected to statewide office in liberal Taxachusetts ...]
Massachusetts has actually elected a few Republican governors in recent memory; Charlie Baker, Romney, that guy who was Gary Johnson's running mate. Their congressional delegation is entirely insane Democrats. They re-elected Gary Studds nine times after he molested a house page. They re-elected Barney Frank. They re-elected Liz Warren. My conclusion is that Massachusettans hate America and therefore, while they occasionally elect a Republican governor, they send the worst people they can possibly find to Congress. Foundations are WMDs of the left, and half that money would go to taxes if they didn't claim their globalist movement was "charitable". We know a couple billion (pay to play and funding her army) passed through her foundation, but much more could have gone unseen. They were clever about using variations of the name, and they had no required audits ... cuz the DoJ and FBI are all part of the mafia/cartel. Gotta disagree here with Ace. Romney attacked Trump after Trump pulled out of Syria (or threatened to), and after Mattis quit. That's what set Romney off, not the border stuff. The #NT crowd mostly see the border as a mean-spirited distraction from the important business of touting the latest job numbers and keeping a trip-wire in Syria. The actual number of troops doesn't matter.

A good friend of mine is a long time dental specialist. He says he would not want to be trying to go into practice now as a general dentist, and that it is getting tougher on specialists as well. Dental offices in every strip mall offering discounted services, staffed by young grads with school loans, willing to work like animals for relatively low pay. I guess there are enough people willing to let a new dentist who has done a comparative few procedures fish around in their root canals with barbs for $1500 as opposed to paying $1800 to the guy who does nothing but root canals and has done 1000's of them successfully. =========== Legal profession has changed radically since I graduated law school 20 years ago. Average wage for lawyers continues to steadily climb, but unbeknownst to most civilians is that that there are two humps in the wage distribution for lawyers. One hump in the low-wage side, and another hump on the high-wage side. Thus, on average, lawyers are either earning a relatively low wage that does not suffice to effectively pay-off debt to improve lifestyle, or a really high wage. There aren't a lot of lawyers that earn income in the middle range. + Legal profession is changing (at least on the transactional law side). Big firm practice is in decline because technology is finally leveling the playing field coupled with business clients that no longer want to pay $25,000 for a contract negotiation that should cost $5,000. Lawyers are now competing on efficiency, and that is changing things away from hourly billing to fixed fee billing, and away from Partner + 2-3 associates + 1 paralegal + 2-3 secretaries working on a transaction to 1 "partner" level attorney doing all the work in less time for lower cost to client. Equals: Even as more lawyers graduate each year, demand for more lawyers is decreasing, further reducing legal salaries. Getting more competitive as between lawyers. NOT the go-to profession it once was, given the ever-rising cost (and debt load) required to graduate from law school. (I've been closing transactions for 20 years, and now work exclusively for 3 Fortune 500 companies you've heard of...., but do so as part of a team of only 15 lawyers, we don't have an office, and there is no such things as a "partner" or "associate". I'm lucky to be on the high end of the income distribution curve.) Posted by: RichardWindsor at January 02, 2019 02:57 PM (db5dt) 527
