The Saturday Night Joke

A gas station owner in Arkansas was trying to increase his sales, so he put up a sign that read:

*** "FREE SEX w/fill-up ... just guess the right number between 1 & 10.” ***

Soon a local redneck pulled in, filled his tank, and asked for his FREE SEX.

The owner told him to pick a number from 1 to 10. If he guessed correctly, he would get his FREE SEX.

The redneck guessed ‘8’. The proprietor said, "You were close. The number was ‘7’. Sorry, but no FREE SEX this time."

A week later, the same redneck, along w/his brother, Bubba, pulled in for another fill-up. Again he asked for his FREE SEX.

The proprietor again gave him the same story, and asked him to guess the correct number.

The redneck guessed ‘2’ this time.

Parsons said in the report that she was compelled to put up the sign after a “Happy Hanukkah” sign on a resident assistant’s door was vandalized with a swastika early this December.
“I thought maybe if I hang the sign up, the person who drew the swastika will see it and see someone condemning their actions, even if the administration doesn’t do it,” Parsons was quoted as saying.
She, however, was surprised when she received an email from residence director Eddie Papazoni telling her to take down her sign.

It requires a pressure cooker.

Put one teaspoon of dried ground Thai pepper and one teaspoon of dried ground cayenne pepper into a Ball jelly jar - the half pint size.
Mince up two cloves of garlic and put in the jelly jar
Fill the jelly jar up to about an inch from the top with sesame oil

Put the lid on the jar and put the jar into a pressure cooker, seal it and put the pressure cooker on the burner and bring up to 15 lbs pressure. Keep it at 15 lbs pressure for about 5 or ten minutes and then pull it off the heat and let it cool naturally.

When it is cool enough that the pressure lets you open the lid, you are done and ready.

Don't heat oil directly in the pressure cooker and don't cook oil in an open jar in the pressure cooker, it will eat the seal and probably make the oil taste rubbery.

Reno is better, but not much. If you stay at the resorts its ok. It helps to have appropriate expectations. If you like pool, spa, blackjack, etc you're all set.

The train ride from Oakland to Reno is a marvel. An incredible panorama with rare views of the Sierra.

Tabasco, while excellent on eggs also partners well with ham and surprisingly well with chicken noodle soup.

Tapatio is probably the second best all around. Put it on anything to improve it, but there is always something better.

Cholula is perfect with breakfast tacos and with Jimmy Dean breakfast bowls

Dave's ~~Profanity~~ Insanity Sauce is required for chili and gumbo.

I make a hot oil with crushed dried Thai chilies, salt, and the liquid coconut oil. I find sesame oil too overwhelming. It's pretty damn hot. My mom uses it in her stir fries to make them spicy. You only need a tiny bit.

That is what I used to used. and you had to fry those bloody wings in oil, I think peanut oil and cook them real good. Then franks and butter, then in the oven on a pan. I like being authentic.

Born on this day in 195mumblety, the good doctor, front man for True North and also the trio I'm fortunate to be a part of.

Told MCA records to bite his backside back in the day when they wanted to add some steel guitar and fiddle to his band's (at the time) first album which was completed. Refuses to have anything to do with record labels to this day and has turned down invites to songwriter get togethers with major publishers.

Went back to school to get his masters, which is when I met him, and ended up with a PhD in audiology. Specializes in inner ear disorders and is referred to by some as the Dizzy Doctor.

Call me biased but is one of my all time favorite songwriters and people.

Can't even get to utube on this fone so I can't do a link for ya.
Now, if someone would care to (don't worry-not holding my breath) you can put True North Live at Liberty Hall in the search box and hear one of his many fine tunes, "Waiting for Angels."

331 Tabasco has its uses, it is a familiar flavor profile I guess you could say. Mcilhenny has a long history with military rations, it used to be if you wrote them they would send out a "cookbook" for making things with C-rations or somesuch. They did put a small glass bottle of Tabasco in the MRE rations for a long time. They still do, though no longer a bottle, it's a small pouch like fast food restaurant ketchup is supplied. I have dozens of the older hot sauce bottles, who could discard such a wonderful article of civilization? I like Franks hot sauce, keep Shriraca sauce around however the fuck its spelled.

Heat for heat's sake alone is stupid. I like the hot flavor, not battery acid I'm gonna die heat. One thing I noticed, Chili Powder goes bad pretty fast, and it's hard to find the good stuff. The supermarket stuff sucks, even when its fresh. Blech

There's nothing outright wrong with it, but I can't think of a food that I'd put it on that wouldn't be better with another condiment. Plus yeah, the cobranding was just nuts for a while.

Sriracha isn't bad, it just... makes bad decisions.

Yes, a little goes a LONG way.

Unlike Dave's Habanero sauce which is as weak as tobasco - maybe even more so.

A few drops of Insanity Sauce is like a half bottle of Tobasco or the Habanero.

One thing that's weird, I inherited a jar of Mexican oregano from my mom. It was pretty old, Spice Island or McCormick iirc probably from 1970s but the flavor was strong, and fantastic in chili. Light green fine powder, almost like flour. So I run out eventually, and go to buy more. WTF is this shit? Tastes nowhere near as good, and all that's available is just flakes or leaves, not ground.

504 I made a lovely batch of Man soap this afternoon. Tallow, lard, coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, castor oil, some nice pine, spruce and fir needle oils, a little green oxide for color and a couple of teaspoons of fine ground coffee for scrubbiness.

Damn, I make some nice stuff.

It traced up nicely and poured like a dream. I'll cut it in two days and use it in four weeks. All good things take time.

Let's just hope we don't run out of the last batch before this one gets ready.

I cringe with that heavy front leg when he throws, it's just bad habits that may be too late to correct. He is also made of glass, and terrible under pressure and when he gets hit. 538 I've long thought that about lots of spices - go weak or bad pretty quickly when already ground. Somebody noted exceptions - whole clove, cinnamon, bay leaves, a few others.

Should probably get a spice grinder, do them as I need them. Have a 25-yr old Krups coffee grinder I could use, but much easier to not have to clean it out all the time (many spices do not improve your coffee).

Though it would be extravagant, by my fanatically cost-efficient, cheap-ass, OCD standards to have 2 essentially similar contraptions.

548 538, that is what many do. Use a coffee grinder just for spices. And the Indian trick is to "toast" them over low heat in a pan until you get the smell, and then grind them.

btw, the funny thing about mace vs nutmeg is that they are so similar, they even come from the same plant/seed. But only nutmeg has a state named after it.

593 Quint, just replacing the 3/16 (as I recall) punch from a standard set - broke the end off the original trying to remove the extractor pin from a CZ-83. I gather I could fix that - forget the term, level it off - but was lazy, and it helped me get to the minimum $ amount for the discount.

Don't recall which punches I use on the 1911 - and I also am due for a detail strip. Use lead bullets, so lube/powder fouling is very heavy.

Also working myself up to do my own detail strip (at least the slide) on my XD. It's not recommended, but apparently not too bad if you're moderately gun-wise and careful. Thinking of getting roll-pin punches, and even starter punches and roll-pin holders, too. Will need some of that for building ARs out.

I like that - Wilson mags first diagnostic step for a troublesome 1911. Perfect.

I can detail a 1911 well and also got pretty good with a Browning HI Power, which can be a bear. But good call on making sure you have the pins you need in case. More than once I was better at taking a weapon down that getting it back together lol.

That wilson trick is legit. So often a mag or weak spring is the cause of FTF's etc.

Argon will work, but so will nitrogen, or the dreaded CO2. I'd plump for CO2, because it's heavier than air.

Incidentally, reaction with oxygen compounds (triplet oxygen [the usual stuff] - singlet oxygen [an excited state formed by UV irradiation] and especially ozone [also produced by UV irradiation] is why rubber, plastics, etc. decompose so quickly here in SoCal. cycloaddition reactions with olefins (compounds containing C=C double
bonds), which then cleave.

I've heard that, too, but never tried it. Sam Rubin at Berkeley was killed during WWII doing chemical warfare work on phosgene when the wind shifted. He'd begun work on using 14-C as a tracer in biological reactions, work that Calvin took up, and for which he subsequently received the Nobel Prize. Calvin used to send Rubin's widow flowers (IIRC) on the anniversary of Rubin's death.

Interesting about the oxygen variants and decay of man-made stuff. I think direct exposure to strong sunlight must also play a part, so I minimize that - including for me. Phenotype does not love sun exposure.

That's why I switch my Nissan to 4wd even when the streets are just wet, let alone snowy or icy. Gas mileage is actually not much worse, at least not noticeably. But it's far more grippy and dependable.

Except I need new tires.

Of course. Unless you're a liberal, of course.

To be scrupulously fair, you could say that straws and grocery bags might be buried in landfill, and hence less subject to such degradation. But we've all seen plastic items left out in sunlight that in fairly short order crumble into pieces for the reasons cited above.

yeah, I actually got it easy compared to others. I got a cousin that pays probably twice that in the north jersey "hip" town he's in. Another cousin in the rich man's area of jersey is probably paying an easy 20-25K a year in taxes. Still, its all criminal.

Kind of related, Japanese planners setting up the strategy against our perfectly anticipated invasion of Kyushu (Op Olympic) were quite concerned that no Japanese actions be seen as anything justifying US introduction of chemical weapons. We hadn't used any up to that point, of course, but the Japanese - rather astutely, given American casualty-fatigue, and the existence of proponents of chem warfare in the US system - seemed quite focused on this. All according to post-war interrogations and documents.

Kind of funny when you consider Mac would have used as many nukes as Groves could get him in connection with the Kyushu operation (some wanted 15, seems only 3 or 4 would have been available by Nov. 1 '45).

It is, somewhat (AW ca. 40 - I just looked it up, whereas that of air is 0.81 * 28 + 0.2*32). But it's a lot less available than CO2. A scrap of dry ice in a blender is pretty easily managed, but where do you get argon, which is of no particular benefit? All you need is something that isn't oxygen.

In the southwestern US, you can take a white shirt that's been stained and hang it out for a day to "bleach" it back to white. UV rays are pretty good at breaking stuff down.

Ozone is super-reactive, almost like elemental fluorine. Singlet oxygen is less reactive, but still pretty hot. Triplet oxygen is still less reactive with olefins (mostly through beta oxidation), but still does the job.

The reactivity profiles of the three are the convolution of each one's partial pressure with its reactivity.

Not a problem. Chemists work with stuff like that all the time - with appropriate precautions, of course. This is why we don't like klutzes in the laboratory, though.
