Cognitive Dissonance: How Does The Left Manage It?

The New Rules.jpg

Perhaps I wasn't dropped on my head enough as a child, but I simply do not understand how the willing fools of the Left square this circle.

I will be trying this at my next family gathering...it should be worth a few chuckles.

******

Barkley plays the buffoon, but I have read that he is quite intelligent and thoughtful. Whether that is true is secondary to the reality that he seems to be a good man, and has good taste in friends. My Dad's Friendship With Charles Barkley What a lovely story!
******

It's a huge waste of money, but it is pretty damned cool.

At least it doesn't take up acres and acres of roadway, like the CitiBike system in NYC.

23 The Charles Barkley story is great. A sort of "My Dinner with Andre" beginning that extended over time. Love the pics of Mr. Wang and Sir Charles together.

I only went to one Sixers game and that was when Charles was on the team. We saw this big guy lumbering up and down the court but surprisingly graceful and finessed. The crowd started chanting: 'BEEF!'. I don't know if that nickname ever stuck.

Barkley was a fixture on the club scene in the 1980s. Anyone partying at the popular places spoke of a Charles sighting. It got to be so common that no one even noticed him anymore.

37 Democrats aren't mentally ill, they're brainwashed/hypnotized slackjaws who stubbornly defend their programming. They are prejudiced and racist and unselfaware.

Now, the not being self aware is a trait they share with some of the psychiatric diagnoses; however people who are mentally ill are at the mercy of their brain chemistry. When they experience lucid and coherent moments, they are mortified by their own sickness.

Democrats are never ashamed or guilt-ridden about their communist totalitarian views. They wear them like badges of honor, because it defines their place in the Kewl Kidsz Klub.

People who are mentally ill have no place in anyone's preferred social network.

44 Perhaps I wasn't dropped on my head enough as a child, but I simply do not understand how the willing fools of the Left square this circle.

The answer is this: Broadly speaking, there are two very major different forms of human communications.

We all speak these two forms, often mixing the forms. Its sort of like being bi-lingual, there is the language of the street, language at home, and the language you think or read. They may not necessarily be the same, and the degree to how you use one or the other varies.

One form of communication traffics in words that have specific dictionary definitions, are forms of speech and when arranged in a certain manner or appended with different suffixes conveys facts, thoughts and ideas to others who also understand this form of communication. This is the realm most K strategists live.

There is another form of communication that doesn't appeal to logic but to aesthetics and emotion. The vehicle often is music or other various forms of art. But a major form is "words".

These words often are deconstructed to have near-worthless dictionary meaning. Some are just magic words like "fair", in which the only meaning it can have is highly subjective not only from person to person, but also variable in time and in context.

Words when used in this other form are not meant to convey facts, reasoning and logic, they are to trigger emotions - mostly rage.

This is why you see "food insecurity", "colonize my mind with the patriarchy", "rape culture", "toxic masculinity" and other vapid phrases. These words are not meant to be understood logically they are used to trigger emotions.

You will often see slogans, symbols and chants; they will repeat things over and over again to reinforce certain sounds with certain emotions. Our schools, social media, entertainment, etc. are all conscripted into the effort to take the difficult part of disciplined learning, reasoning and logic and replace it with lizard minded emotional triggering.

This is how mere mentioning of the word "Trump" causes anxiety, fear and dread in large segments of the population because for years the effort to associate the sound/word "Trump" with horrible things is paying off for any manipulator who wants to raise a small army of motivated myrmidons.

If you look over Governor Brown's statements at the recent Climate Confab, you will see lie after lie after lie. It never was about facts. He is further reinforcing bad events: "fire", "drought", "land-slides" to the sound/word "Carbon". So when future manipulators say "Carbon" the NPCs will have their angst emotions triggered. Then associate it with Trump and get their angst mixed with rage - now you have a Mob.

People were talking the other day about how critical thinking was no longer taught in schools. So people now focus on emotion, not fact. People lose the ability to perceive relations like cause and effect.

I added that people lose the ability to take an objective look at a system of values and realize that the values are incompatible, hence the system is incoherent.

I like calling leftists hypocrites and saying that is their core value, but maybe that is unfair. They are simply too stupid to realize that the principles they believe in are contradictory and incoherent.

They know that they can trigger your disgust and offense emotions by labeling you a "hypocrite". Once you are now emotionally captured, they can have their way with you.

They don't operate under the rules of logic and facts, only the Means to an End and the ability to trigger and manipulate emotions.

66 Behold the effects of unearned affluence coupled with the decline of Judaeo-Christian ethics virtue -- to the point where vice is now celebrated rewarded.

Now that you have brought up Christianity, consider Romans 1: The Road to Reprobation. The Journey begins with ingratitude, then rejecting the Creator to praise the Creation. As they go about comprehensively abandoning any connection with God: exchange truths for lies, then the natural function of men and women, then lastly they encourage others to follow in their delusions, they are "turned over" by God.

Since God is the creator of logic, reason and a predictable and consistent universe, the Progressive Estrangement from God also distances them noetically.

Thus we get William Anderson Scott's: "Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad". finding its basis in Scripture.

"There's no reason why the individual mandate provision can't be struck down and keep all of the good provisions of the Affordable Care Act such as coverage for people with preexisting conditions, the mandated benefits for substance abuse and mental illness treatment, and allowing young people to stay on their parent's policies until age 26," Collins said.

82 73 GOP Sen. Susan Collins of Maine predicted Friday's
decision striking down the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will be overturned
on appeal, and criticized the sweep of the decision.

Speaking Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union," Collins said the
ruling went too far, even if the individual mandate is unconstitutional.

"There's no reason why the individual mandate provision can't be
struck down and keep all of the good provisions of the Affordable Care
Act such as coverage for people with preexisting conditions, the
mandated benefits for substance abuse and mental illness treatment, and
allowing young people to stay on their parent's policies until age 26,"
Collins said.

87 Re Collins on the Texas ACA ruling:

The ACA is not severable by design! That's why Roberts had to call the penalty a tax, even though both the text and legislative history denied that it was a tax. If he called it a non-tax penalty, then it would have voided the whole thing. Which is what the Texas court did, now that the tax for not having a compliant policy is $0, by act of Congress.

To cross memes, moose out front should have told Collins that. OR she could have read the text before opening her pie hole.

Heh. I've noticed this. The left *invoke* moral principles constantly, but eventually you see they only apply them to one side. So they don't really believe in the principles as such. They believe in only one thing, achieving their end, and they're willing to lie and be inconsistent to get there. They have only that one end goal in mind.

Sort of. Roberts defended Obamacare because there was a tax penalty built into the law. Either buy Obamacare or pay a tax. And since Congress has the power to tax that made it legal to him.

So Republicans repealed the individual mandate which is where the tax existed. And as noted above because the law required the tax to pass it is not legal without it despite the fact that it is now financially unworkable.

Reading 'between the lines' of the Trump tax cut was that the IRS presented him with a 'wish list' to make their job easier. They had a situation where millions were avoiding the Obamacare penalty by not only *not* signing up but also *not* filing tax returns and the IRS needed a way to automatically calculate taxes on them. But they needed a 'top number' on property tax deductions to work from.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. It's based on a little more then reading tea leaves.

So the tweaking that Congress did was strategic? That's how my sometimes coherent brain sees it.

I talked to a CPA because I was confused about the status for 2018 filing. It seems the mandate still applies, however the penalty for not being insured does not. The mandate goes away next year though. I get an exemption this year because I didn't meet their threshold for getting extorted, which is just $12,000. So even at that meager amount, people still are expected to have coverage? I guess it would be Medicaid.

Hard as it is to believe, yep. The initial bill that passed the House did not have the mandate repeal in it. Cocaine Mitch and the Senate inserted it and then it went back to the House where Republicans passed it.

The only thing that even made the law arguable was the tax status. Once that was gone it was just a matter of someone with standing to pounce and seize and sue in a fair court.

161 So you avoid paying the mandate by under paying your taxes? Wrong. You under pay your taxes and you're charged the taxes, penalties and interest. And if you don't pay, they take everything you own, put your ass in jail and garnish future wages.

Unless you're a Clinton or Sharpton.

163 "but I simply do not understand how the willing fools of the Left square this circle."

Fen's Law: the Left doesn't really believe in the things they lecture the rest of us about.

They are shameless in their apparent hypocrisy because they dont give a rat's ass about Feminism or Islamophobia. These are just props to be used to score Virtue Points.

Any attempt to hold them to Principle is like shelling a hill the enemy never occupied.

164 The left *invoke* moral principles constantly, but eventually you see they only apply them to one side. So they don't really believe in the principles as such. They believe in only one thing, achieving their end, and they're willing to lie and be inconsistent to get there.

That is why I say that their only two [sneer] "principles" are Who/Whom and the Will To Power. Their double standards don't even rise to the level of hypocrisy, since their words are just tools for which the truth value is irrelevant.

165 The Barkley story is something that should be required reading. He has done and said a lot of dumb things. At the end of the day, you can't read that story and not believe there is a good person under it all (and who hasn't been busted while driving drunk to find the hooker who gives good head)
