I've got an idea. If I were a comedian, and I'd have to be a really big draw to get away with this, I'd demand that my audience sign a contract before I'd perform there. Roughly:

A large part of what constitutes humor are the cultural touchstones of a generation when it's young. I remember thinking Steve Martin was absolutely hysterical when I was in college. My uncle came in once while I was watching it, watched for a moment, and then asked me "what's funny?".

Things go in cycles. They always have. Gen X were better than their flower-humping Boomer parents. Full Throttle was a lot of fun. I'm not sure if it would run on my current rig, though. Unfortunately, the only two Monkey Island games that I played were the third and fourth ones. And the fourth one was not so good (I've heard complaints about the third one, as well, but I can't compare it to the first two).
And, of course, there's Grim Fandango! I was hoping that Manny and Glottis would get a cameo in Coco. But since I didn't hear anything about it, I'm guessing they didn't.

Barely dodged the millenial label myself. This stuff was very much ramping up on campuses after 2000 or so. It was slow to pick up steam to reach where we are at, but the change was very, very noticeable at the time. We attributed it to a temporary PC mania at first, combined with those a couple of years younger than us being sanctimonious pricks. It only got worse from there. I suspect a key unappreciated element of it in the US were the constant draft scares from 2002 to late 2006 (gee, I wonder what happened in late 2006....)
Gen Z is arguably doing better. Fewer lunatics, although those they have are much more severe, reflecting the broader split in our culture. A lot of them grew up watching the stupidity of the last decade and want no part of it.

We may yet see a Victornia-era style backlash. People talk about how puritanical the Victorians were, while ignoring the reasons *why* they were like that. The Victorians ended up like that because they had to deal with the results of the opposite approach toward sexual mores. For instance, Queen Victoria ascended to the throne because while her uncle William IV had eight surviving children (out of ten), NONE of them were legitimate. This left an impression on British culture at the time.
So as things get more and more out of kilter, we may yet see a move to restore a semblance of older strictures and mores. We're unlikely to roll-back same sex marriage (that genie's likely not going back in the bottle any time soon due to the legal ramifications). But just about everything else could be overthrown in a hurry.

Actually, that's not true.
Only the war protesting anti-draft boomers graduated and infiltrated the institutions.
The other Boomers went to vietnam, came back and started businesses (those that didn't succomb to agent orange or ptsd). Raised families like always but did allow the '50's commies in education to take over the system and thus their children became anti government socialists by the '80's.
people who are younger always want to blame the boomers for everything because we can't blame the so called greater generation because they endured the depression and fought the war.
I say hooey to that as it was the 'greater generation' who paid the least into social security and got the most out and who went along with LBJ's war on poverty (poverty won) and the war on drugs (drugs won) and who took advantage of medicare and medicaid and didn't put as much in as they got out.
I call them the greedy generation and it makes sense they were brought up during the lean times of the depression and when the money started flowing because of the war they were gleefully taking advantage at every opportunity from that point on. They were not going to be starved and wearing threadbare clothes ever again. Some have said that the war in the Pacific with Japan was manipulated into happening sooner so as to engage the country with both antagonists. (we didn't declare war on Germany until after Pearl Harbor and Germany's declaration against us)
The older generation is always too stupid, too greedy, too tight fisted, too whatever to the younger generation.
Read some greeks and you'll find they despaired of the young knowing their place also.

I love that movie. There actually was a long period during which TCM refused to show it and then they started showing it again but edited out the blackface bit. Over the last few years with the atmosphere of film preservation being what it is, TCM made the programming decision to not edit or censor their movies in any way.
Speaking of Bing Crosby, I just finished reading a two volume biography about him. Amazing that he's largely forgotten among modern audiences relative to Sinatra.
Crosby had more number one hits than the Beatles and Elvis combined. He has the number one and number three best selling songs of all time, White Christmas and Silent Night, respectively. He was nominated for two best actor Oscars, winning in 1945. He was the number one box office draw for five straight years from 1946-1950.
