McConnell Blocks Grandstanding Flake's Unconstitutional Bill to Make Mueller Unfirable

Flake really wants that nomination of the KOP (Kristol Ops Party).

Legislation protecting special counsel Robert Mueller from being fired was blocked in the Senate on Wednesday.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) asked for consent to bring the legislation, which has stalled after being passed in the Judiciary Committee in April, to the Senate floor for a vote.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) blocked his request.

Under the Senate's rules, a senator can come to the Senate floor and ask for consent to get a vote or pass a bill. Any one senator can block their request.

McConnell didn't explain his move from the floor but it came hours after he told reporters that he believed that Mueller should be able to finish his investigation and that he didn't believe the special counsel was in danger of being fired.

"There's been no indication ... that Mueller investigation will not be allowed to finish and it should be allowed to finish. We know how the president feels about the Mueller investigation but he's never said he wants to shut it down," McConnell told reporters during a press conference.

Someone needs to invent a robot that will just follow these guys around patting them on the back and cooing, "You're so brave and special," so that they will stop making spectacles of themselves.

A federal court is compelling former secretary of state Hillary Clinton to respond to further questions -- under oath - about her notorious emails.

U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan issued the ruling Wednesday in response to a lawsuit from Judicial Watch, the conservative research and investigative group that has long had its sights on both of the Clintons.

The judiciary most definitely can be limited by the legislature, though.

Article III, Section 2: "In all cases affecting ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, and those in which a state shall be party, the Supreme Court shall have original jurisdiction. In all the other cases before mentioned, the Supreme Court shall have appellate jurisdiction, both as to law and fact, with such exceptions, and under such regulations as the Congress shall make."

So if Congress decided tomorrow that the Supreme court should never have appellate jurisdiction they can decide that. Congress also can do away with all Federal courts other than SCOTUS if they wanted.

And SCOTUS only has original jurisdiction to the limited case types listed above.

99 The Saga Has Returns:

The elections are over, the landscape blasted and smoldering from the carpet bombing of leaflets, the intense massed fire of television ads, the crackle of twitter-fire. Isolated pockets of firing still go on but the main results are in. Trump surveys all from the back of Bigly the Elephant, his orange visage set.

"Time to get moving, big guy. We still gotta find that little furry guy."

Bigly shakes his ears and ambles off.

***************

In a Chinese restaurant in Maryland Fu Manchu yells at Brad "You got wax in your ears? I said wash dishes faster!" Fu then turns to his phone and yells into it. "You stupid NeverTrumper! You got caught being bought! Why you get caught?"

'Hey," Cap'n Bill says, "it wasn't my fault, Egg started blabbering about how he needed to pay off his campaign debt and was complaining to everyone how I wouldn't give him some money. You know what he's like."

"Hey!" Egg protests, "None of that is true, you got drunk and were trying to chat up S.E. Cupp and OW! You hit me!"

Cap'n Bill swings the belaying pin in a gentle motion "Hush you! What was that? Send Egg over to report to you? On it - oh by the way, we're going to need a little more of the ready - the Coast Guard made me get the Sea Cuck out of the water, said it was an environmental danger and I owe for the drydock fees...hello? Hello? Lost the connection. You better get going Egg."

"Is he going to be mean to me?" Egg asks.

"Nah, he's cool. Until we meet again - no, good-bye would be more accurate."

*****************

Outside a police station in Los Angeles, Caitlin is ready with her microphone and arguing with Mandy.

"I don't care if he is on Tater Tot's show all the time, this guy is a creep! He looks like his hands do things when he isn't watching! I know he's like their favorite 'cause he bashes Trump, but couldn't they get someone cute without an "ick" factor going on? What do you mean "they can't get anyone but losers to go on the air?" I'm on the air! What? I'm on the air? Like right now?"

Caitlin puts on a big bright smile and says "Hi! This is Caitlin and I'm supposed to get a few words from Creepy Porn Lawyer guy when he gets bailed out - Mandy, I don't care he is a creep! Oh wait, there he is! Hey, Mr. Creepy Porn Lawyer guy! CNN here!"

Avanetti walks over "A camera and a microphone, it's been two hours - I was having withdrawals."

"So why'd you hit that woman?"

"I never struck a woman, I'd never hit a lady."

"But she has bruises..."

Avanetti interrupts her "A dame, I'll let hit me first before I pop her one..."

"A dame....?"

"But a broad, well I'll hit second, and third, and fourth, and how much it takes. Some broads never learn the easy way." He looks Caitlin over "Hey, you interested in some modeling and dancing gigs? I know some guys at these gentlemen's clubs...AAAHHHH MY EYES!"

Caitlin empties her pepper spray in his face yelling "ICK! ICK! ICK! Stay away from me you creep!" before running off.

**********************

Leaving the electoral battlefield, Trump passes the GOP forces and the dead and wounded. As they go by he spots a familiar figure.

"It's the furry guy! Hey, fella, I've been looking for you, I got this deal you may like."

The Ewok shakes his Golden Hobo Cull and says "Jub-Jub-Jubjub."

"I don't know that lingo, but come on we'll discuss it." Bigly snares the Ewok with his trunk, the Ewok protesting.

"Still don't understand anything you say, but the boy might. Anyway, this deal is going to be magnificent, yuge even You'll love it.

106 34 Why is there suddenly so much meddling in the clearly defined powers of the executive branch? Seems that up until recently, congress and the courts were more than willing to offshore their own responsibilities to the executive and the administrative agencies he controls.

That is Classic Government.

Those anointed to an office or station read the requirements of that office or station, immediately delegate it out and seek to control and manage a completely separate office or station.

That is why the US Constitution enumerates things that the Government is supposed to do: maintain roads, provide justice, immigration, protect Rights etc. and those who asked for the job refuse to do those things, in favor of doing all of things that they are prohibited from doing.

Just human nature.

We stare decisis doesn't mean anything if they no longer have jurisdiction to hear most cases anymore.

Stare Decisis just means "the decision will stand," ie: in common law, courts defer to previous decisions (in the US, SCOTUS can overrule old SCOTUS decisions, in english common law, that was not the case for like centuries -- once a decision was made, it stood forever.)

But that assumes that the court has jurisdiction over the controversy at hand.

Congress can decide the extent of the Federal Courts jurisdiction.

156 A federal court is compelling former secretary of state Hillary Clinton to respond to further questions -- under oath - about her notorious emails.

U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan issued the ruling Wednesday in response to a lawsuit from Judicial Watch, the conservative research and investigative group that has long had its sights on both of the Clintons.

162 So if Congress decided tomorrow that the Supreme court should never have appellate jurisdiction they can decide that. Congress also can do away with all Federal courts other than SCOTUS if they wanted.

A more straightforward approach, one hinted at by Justice Thomas recently, is to limit the jurisdiction of the Federal courts to the bounds of their districts. No more Hawaii Judges ruling on who gets in through SFO or IAB.

163 @6 Wow. I didn't think Mitch would oppose this at all.
------------------

McConnell has indicated that he wants it to finish. But carving out special exceptions for Mueller is ridiculous, and just feeds into the Dems' paranoid ravings about how Trump is going to upend the Constitution.

Additionally, as McConnell noted, Trump has never suggested that he would fire Mueller.
Trump's unhappy about the investigation. But since the investigation exists purely to try and find evidence of something that would make him look bad, that's understandable. And being unhappy about the investigation doesn't mean that he's going to end prematurely, especially given that Mueller has stated he's pretty much done at this point.

210 This is clearly a coordinated nationwide effort - the ACLU of Pennsylvania* has just the other day filed suit to invalidate the Commonwealth's Absentee Ballot receipt deadline and sought to impound late arriving absentee ballots. A lawyer for a Democrat Candidate's campaign for State Senate (who lost on election day by 100 votes) seemed to have been aware of the suit before it dropped when working on the canvassing and adjudicating timely absentee ballots received.
We don't have early voting here, so the play seemed to have been for Democrats to work on getting their voters to vote via absentee to bank votes even though the law says that absentee votes are only legitimate if the voter will be outside of the municipality in which his voting district is situate for the duration of time that the polls are open. They clearly think that the absentees received after the deadline should break for the Democrats, which is why they're pushing this.

You have to understand the demographics to understand how Arizona works. It's, basically, a retirement community. Democrat candidates use scare tactics like Paul Ryan pushing a lady in a wheelchair off a cliff. And, also, retirement aged people are addicted to the three main networks to get their news. So, propaganda day in and day out. Also, every primary there are a wealth of Conservatives who cross each other out based on the way it's set up. The GOP Inc. only ever runs one single candidate. In the primary, they match the Conservative rhetoric of their competition. That's how McSally beat Kelli Ward.

When a regular election comes around, the Republican now has a problem. People are paying attention more...and the Democrat has myriad sound bites of contradicting positions of the Republican. The media jumps right on that. Old people don't like that shit.

"Journalists" are self selecting. Since that is the case you only have to decide you are one. Writing anything is not necessary.
The only thing that makes these people 'official' is money spent to create an 'official' organization that calls itself the press, or the media.
If they want to be official and approved by we the people, they should create government offices and buy elections, like the Democrats do.

It does seem odd and incongruous that the government gets involved with cultural stuff the way it does. It's cute if they have some kids over for an easter egg hunt or halloween, but it was a bit weird to discover that it's semi-traditional to invite victorious sports teams over to the WH. That's outside the sphere of what they should be concerned with.

As Mark STeyn said, religion doesn't exist to validate your lifestyle choices. He was attempting to tell the congregant (visitor?) what is the expected and appropriate behavior. It would likewise be fine if he told a woman dressed like a streetwalker to go home and put on appropriate clothes.

Seems like a judgement call by the pastor that his parishioners agreed with.

Also seems like lil' miss thing wanted to provoke a response so that he could be offended and become a national story. Just a guess...

You know, hate the sin, love the sinner etc. Nobody that I know of was ever unkind to him. As part of our security team though I was asked by the pastor to request he use the family restroom (it's a one stall small restroom built for one with a changing table) He had made some of the girls very uncomfortable using the ladies room. So I and another member kindly and respectfully asked this one simple thing. He of course went crazy, screaming etc. F-bomb this etc. He was looking for a reason to be a "victim". We respected him, but it was a one way street. We then escorted him from the building.

The story is that after the Vikings discovered Greenland and Iceland, they named the big crappier one "Greenland" so people would move there but the nicer, less cold one "Iceland" so they could have it to themselves.

Dunno how much truth there is to that, but it's what I've always heard. The actual climate/weather patterns Back Then were different from now, though. Actual climate change (I.e. grape vineyards way north of what's possible now) since then, and the Little Ice Age.

Mildly interesting.

492 "Someone needs to invent a robot that will just follow these guys around patting them on the back and cooing, 'You're so brave and special,' so that they will stop making spectacles of themselves."

Great idea. I've often thought of carrying around a comic-book style word balloon that says, "Okay, we notice you. Enough." This would be for people who seem to be craving other people's attention.

494 As part of our security team though I was asked by the pastor to request he use the family restroom (it's a one stall small restroom built for one with a changing table)

The family restroom is a reasonable accommodation IMO. I mean, actual privacy, so that's preferable in my book.

I like multi-culti churches because I find that the worship experience seems to be enhanced by different backgrounds and cultures. I also love the feeling of breaking down barriers at the foot of the cross. Every tongue, every nation, every tribe, and every people group. Love it. There's nothing more monotone than a bunch of 70 year old white people doing church. JMO

497 Ah, thanks for the additional detail.

Establishing expectations and standards.
Consequences when they are not met.
An antiquated concept among our Lefty cultural warriors. Good for the pastor.

We had the same thing happen at our church. See my post above. What floored me is that people went above and beyond to be welcoming to this guy. In fact I am sure some left the church over it. The only thing asked of his was to use the family restroom and he went ape shit. Tolerance and respect is not a two way street with most of these folks.

Yes. It's coming. Maybe not on the heels of this incident, but it's damned well coming.

Destruction of the churches is a foundational plank in the totalitarian platform and the Democrats will have their way eventually.
