Jeff Sessions Resigns as AG, At President's Request

BREAKING.

With additional Senators coming into office, and fewer NeverTrump cucks, Trump calculates that he will be able to get a replacement AG through.

Okay, I don't want to be That Guy, but I guess we're finally done with the "Stealth Jeff" and Q Anon stuff about Jeff Sessions being a double-secret super-agent carrying out Trump's labyrinthine schemes?

We're done with that now, right?

Can we accept that most of the time the world is much as the world appears? That there's not always some Super Secret wheels-within-wheels scheme?

Correct: Christopher R. Taylor sums up my thoughts:

Kinda sad in one way. Sessions was an early Trump supporter and I think he's a good guy. He's clearly on the side of law and order and was getting some good stuff done. But he clearly was not the right temperament for the job and obviously trusted his fellow Justice Dep't people far more than they deserved.

His failure to act over and over when it was clear as a leader he should (such as when they were stonewalling congress on documents, defying direct orders from the president, etc) made it obvious the man was not fit for the position at this time.

If we had a good DOJ that had not spent the last 24 years being infected by hard left radicals, he probably would have been the perfect choice. But he either refused or could not see how many people were in his department who were far more interested in leftist power than justice and law.

And so he needed to go.

A sharp observer I know said, "The Democrats looked for Jeff Sessions' pressure point, his sense of himself as a Gentleman of Honor and Amity, and they used that against him and squeezed it until he was empty of everything except compliance."

He didn't know What Time It Is. He still believed in the old rules. He didn't notice his opponents had discarded those years ago in favor of sheer Will to Power.

Even Pithier:

313 Trump needs a war time consigliere

-- A Quiet Man

That sums it up.

"Tom, you're out."

239 LMAO... That Q-anon nonsense is hilarious from a "watching shit grow in a petri dish" sort of way.

Sessions is being canned so Trump can remove Rosenstein. Alberto Gonzales wrote a public memo that wasn't challenged while he was serving Bush. It, basically, said that internal succession withing the DOJ was handled by the DOJ. So, Trump had no way to remove Rosenstein without all kinds of employee union lawsuits etc. So, first you remove Sessions, then replace him with someone who has no problem showing Rosenstein the door. Likely that guy that lost in Kansas last night.

The other issue, which Sessions seems to be conceding is that had Trump fired Sessions, the Vacancy Reform Act doesn't provide wording on firing someone...only death in office and resignation. So, at least, Sessions isn't going to cause further problems.

He moved quick for a reason. I full expect IG Horowitz to come out any day and say that after consultation with Wray, Rosenstein, and Coats, he can't release the un-redacted FISA application. Trump can't release that on his own, because the minute he does, the Newly Dem House starts an Obstruction of Justice impeachment movement. So, he needs someone in the DOJ slot that assures all the requests of Congress is fufilled over the next month before dems take over the committees.

This is about to turn into one hell of a show. Let's see how the stall is applied.

Many of that group question the base concept of Q as some inner contact, but have still formed their own groups ... some with 100K views at times ... so even if they are doing reality TV style role playing ... I think "party on". (but lose some of the blind faith, for those that have too much of that?)

others gave up on Q, but kept their "followers" ... so, whatever ... I'm for all the grass roots real activists we can muster ... under the big tent (is that still a term?)

Cruz is the best pick for the job of AG.

In my opinion, that's a significant part of why Beto got so close yesterday. What? 3 points? Really???

If I were a Texan, I'd have surely voted for Mr. Cruz. But I wouldn't have sent him a dime of money.

I hope Trump offers, and Cruz accepts AG. Gov Abbot will appoint a solid conservative to the Senate seat who will not have the lack of charisma and sad baggage of Cruz.

Then, if Cruz does a serviceable job as AG, when the Ginsburg SCOTUS seat comes open: The Don ought nominate Cruz.
This would also resolved the unfortunate dilemma of having to decide whether Cruz (who is in not a natural born U.S. citizen but was born in Canada) is eligible to server as POTUS.

He was a decent AG, the problem was that he wasn't the AG we need now. In normal times he'd be wonderful.

But we have a DOJ that is riddled with traitors and leftists appointed over the decades who are now in power and are using their position to protect political allies and destroy political enemies. For them, the job is about social justice, not actual justice.

Sessions ignored leaks, did nothing about DOJ employees openly defying the president's orders, did nothing about abuse of power, did nothing to deal with the clear violations of procedure and rules by people handling the Clinton email server case, did nothing to punish people for defying congressional oversight orders to turn over paperwork, did nothing to deal with DOJ employees using redaction powers to simply cover up things that made them look bad, biased, or incompetent, on and on.

He wasn't lousy at the job, he was lousy at being the head of a department and understanding that many of the people under him are actively hostile toward him, the president, and the very concepts of justice and liberty its self.

UK and Australia are the ones. The CIA was using them on our soil to run their Op. Additionally, they were using field ops to try and get various Trump team members on record in some fashion so they could float that documentation back to the States and solidify their "counter intelligence" op. Even Madeline Albright was part of the game by trying to Carter Page to sit on a panel at Oxford dealing with something totally out of his expertise so a friendly reporter (to MI6) could print a blurb for the CIA to siphon and feed back the information.

Mark Steyn, of all people, actually nailed the process in his piece. If you can find it, read it...he's dead on.

And he should recuse the way Holder or Rosie or Mueller do ... the more directly involved he is (which he is not) ... the more he should stay put and run the show. Right now the ones most conflicted are the ones covering up the Hillary crimes and running the coup ... Sessions enabled that, as I see it.

The most obvious clue on Sessions ... Trump himself, saying he had no AG ... that was not some sneaky shell game ... his AG laid down on demand, for the mob. Rosenstein basically ordered it, then ran the show, putting the most conflicted mobster in charge of the NoOversight eternal special Coup.

436 Sessions' most important job, one that he should have realized in the first hundred days of the Trump administration, was to clean up the Justice Department. The amount of corruption and malfeasance was historic. So, no matter what one thought one's duty going in, that needed to be reprioritized as a trustworthy, functional DoJ is the first thing the nation needs before it tries to do any second thing.

And that was Sessions' biggest failure after his recusal from his job. He seemed slow, late, and deferential to a dysfunctional institution to a fault.

So disappointing. I was a Sessions supporter for decades, yet his legacy will end with a huge thud.

I don't think it's like constitutionally required, since it's a Senate-confirmed position, but yeah -- the AG should most definitely be a lawyer.

The AG oversees an army of lawyers engaged in all kinds of legal cases at all times. They need to know what is going on around them or they will be highly ineffective.

Tyler's got some kind of infection theyre battling right now, mostly due to his poor nutrition and refusal to take feeds...He's got a feeding tube inserted now (an 'up the nose' one), so he's getting the stuff he needs for now, but only while he's hospitalized. When he gets stronger he'll be moved to the inpatient feeding therapy (if I can get it covered), which will be a whole new kind of hell for him, so I would really appreciate any thoughts and prayers anyone can spare right now. Really thought we were thru the worst of This last winter but we seem to be almost back at square one. Sorry to jump on the Sessions news .

I'm a longtime 'lurker' on AOS...read it religiously, but only jump in to add to the conversation very rarely. I've hesitated to add my name to the prayer list because I've never been good at asking for any kind of help, I always feel like others have it much worse than I do....but right now I'll take any help i can get. I'll try to keep this as concise as I can, feel free to edit as necessary.
>
> I have a 14 year old son who is autistic and non-verbal. Last fall, he got very ill, and after being rushed to Children's Hospital LA with what they told me was "probably leukemia", they discovered that what he actually had was flesh eating bacteria - started on his backside, and had migrated into his insides. After a 6 hour emergency surgery, which included removal of a large portion of his little butt and a big chunk of his bladder...16 days unconscious on a ventilator...2 more surgeries including a colostomy...and 2 months in the hospital, we brought him home. He was unable to walk for weeks, and they inserted a feeding tube through which he now has to be fed...autistic kids are notoriously bad eaters, and his poor nutrition habits contributed to the bacteria ravaging him so completely - his body just couldn't fight it. So flash forward a year, he's through the worst of it, but still will literally eat nothing but mcdonalds French fries. Which is fine since he gets his nutrition thru his tummy tube...except for the past 4-5 months, he all but refuses to let me feed him. He's 14 and almost my size and if he doesn't want to do something, it's not getting done. His health is starting to suffer again, his doctor is at a loss, and the only option we've been given is the possibility of "inpatient feeding therapy". Insurance doesn't cover it and we have a $950,000 bill from CHLA staring at us already. When he first got sick, his team at school set up a gofundme acct, which I'm going to include here, even tho it makes me sick to do...any and all prayers/assistance would be appreciated from the bottom of our hearts. www.gofundme.com/pullingfortyler

505 >>I genuinely want to know too. No dig on Jack

I'm not surprised. Trump has made it clear for months he wanted to make a change and unless he was playing some 4th dimensional head fake, which he wasn't, Sessions was done.

I do not agree that Sessions didn't have to recuse himself, he was a potential target of the investigation and there is no way he could oversee his own investigation. And if he had fought it it would have caused a shitstorm as big as the collusion issue if not bigger.

But I can understand why Trump felt he was being abandoned. It was a no-win situation for both of them. But no, I don't think he was sleeping for the last two years and he's actually accomplished quite a bit in areas like immigration, MS-13, human trafficking, etc. He just lost Trump's confidence because of the recusal.

Probably best to bring someone new in with a clean slate. I'm not at all convinced anything different is going to happen.

Mueller's coercive threats themselves are probably "actionable"? And in any case, he and his angry Dems should be immediately removed for multiple obvious conflicts of interest. A long list of Hillary crimes and various FBI perjurers and conspiracy participants need prosecution, not early retirement.

662 Shit's moving fast and I've been tied up, so forgive me if I need to catch up.

First, what the fuck gives with the people of Montana? I'm hereby revoking your Big Country Hardscrabble USA Loving Conservative persona and handing you your Ben & Jerry's frequent buyer card.

Trump truly does adopt the Godfather rules for business in the press conference. We can drop the attacks and work together or if you want war, we can go to war. I love the directness.

His handling of Acosta was next to perfect. He should have threatened him personally for roughing up his microphone girl.

Session's replacement needs to be rabid attack dog on a frayed leash. This replacement needs to have a core team that he brings with him and immediately freezes all the top career DOJ people out of the action. I want them to run on fear and intimidation, not only targeting democrats but their families and friends.

It's important that this new group in the DOJ learn from the Wisconsin prosecutors who dealt with Scott Walker. No business should be conducted during the day. All targets need their doors busted in in the early morning hours, their children rousted from their sleep, their wives tossed to the floor and handcuffed.

Time to quit being nice.

665 Since Nunes is head of the House Intelligence Committee until next year, I hope Whitaker looks at the de-classifying requests to see if Rosenstein's claim that releasing them would be an obstruction of justice. If not, Trump should de-classify.

668 Like many appointments, no expertise in a particular area is required to be a cabinet secretary or Deputy.

Thus not being a lawyer is actually a recommendation for Walker as AG.

And NO. Rosenstein isn't AG. He's back to being just the Deputy as Trump put in a temp for AG until a Nomination is made and approved.

Posted by: josephistan at November 07, 2018 03:41 PM (7HtZB)

681 Well hello horde! Surprised this didn't earn a flaming skull, but it was also sort of expected, the red text is nice and now it is time for PDT to survey the landscape and find a fighter worthy of this job.

No tears for Jeff Sessions, his decision to recuse himself was terrible and should have been addressed long before he went to committee, not much of a surprise that his "peers" would bring forth his meetings with Russians as a point of contention.

Lastly, 5 years ago today, I stood in front of my battalion and with all the dignity and composure I could muster said goodbye to my life under arms and in uniform, 30 years went by much faster than I could have ever imagined, especially since I am only 29. Today, I was finally hired to do what I do best, training Marines to think more and bleed less in combat. Very excited that in 2 short weeks, I will draft scenarios to test young men (and some women) before they deploy for real, to places that are not nice and the people will smile while dousing the ground around them in gasoline. Trump supported James in the primary, but didn't visit in the last few weeks. I am guessing that in post-election review, this will be Trump's biggest single regret. Still, Trump got 9 of 11 over the line.

The problem is Cruz. That convention stunt still lives in many minds. I know it lives in mine. Good God people learn to not doing something like that by the time they're in their late teens. 720 No, I'm not dropping Stealth Jeff yet.He was very effective as AG. He took direct control of immigration courts, and the entire asylum hoax would have been settled within about a year with the Supreme Court shutting down the any-leftwing-judge-can-overrule-you-technique.Sessions was also effective on other immigration issues, as well as working with EPA on getting rid of the sue and settle nonsense.
He has a team of prosecutors investigating the FBI/CIA/DOJ who went after Trump. This isn't QAnon, but it's located directly in Sessions's correspondence with Congress.

This firing takes recusal away as an issue, and Mueller can be directly controlled. There is a persuasive article in Politico arguing that Trump has already been subpoenaed.

There was a book that came out describing how corrupt everyone in Washington is. The only one who didn't appear in the book was Jeff Sessions.

721 He's pretty much done here in Alabama. The senate seat that's up in 2020 will hopefully go to a Freedom Caucus Congressman, Mo Brooks, who was sandbagged by Cocaine Mitch in the primaries. Roy Moore is done and Luther Strange is done as well . Brooks would be good for the nation and good for Alabama . BTW the D that snuck in in the special election is reviled in the State .

722 "Can we accept that most of the time the world is much as the world appears? That there's not always some Super Secret wheels-within-wheels scheme?"

The thing is, that when "the world as it appears" is a world gone completely mad, the idea that somewhere, somehow, the agents of sanity are "out there somewhere, looking out for us, because this is supposed to be America" is pretty seductive.

723 Late again to the thread but I have to say that I totally disagree with the Cruz/convention argument.

The left is determined to turn Texas blue. They have stated it over and over. Tons of money was spent to get Beto over the line. Money can buy love (unlike that Beatles' song of yesteryear) and it certainly can buy votes. It did.
