I think if one really wants to know how various races are going, look at the reporting.
I believe the cities tend to report earlier than outlying areas. If the R is even with the D or close, good chance the R is going to win, because rural areas trend conservative. I think D's depend on running up insurmountable leads in the big cities in order to make it impossible for rural areas to make up the gap. My two cents.
