The Media Is Totally Not the Enemy of the People And Anyone Saying They Are Is The Enemy Of the People

NYT Op Ed: They laughed at Hitler, too -- before he was elected Chancellor of the Republican Party.

Reporter asks Michigan Senate candidate John James -- who could, maybe, win -- for an interview, then leaves this on his voicemail:

"Man, if he beats her [Democrat Debbie Stabenow]... Jesus! F*cking John James. Whew! That would suck! I don't think it's going to happen though."

The reporter was fired for her lack of professionalism, but I'm sure the nominally right-leaning Cuck Commandos will start white knighting for her. They always defend liberals' free speech rights. Liberals, and their fellow cucks. (Note there may be some slight overlap between those two categories.)

Conservatives' speech rights, on the other hand? Then you get the Muh Private Businesses Can Do Whatever They Want speeches.

Oh, and this is pretty amusing:

Democrats are like disco fanatics butt hurt after that scam was blown up by punk rock.
Posted by: Donnie Rotten

There's this sort of historical mass-mis-remembering, where people say that punk rock was a "reaction" to disco and eventually crushed it.

But actually, disco and punk emerged almost exactly simultaneously in the mid-'70s, not as a reaction to each other. At first ('76), punk was mostly a reaction to stadium-rock and prog-rock -- not a reaction to disco. it was only about two years later, ca. 1978, when disco really peaked as a mass movement, that the punks turned their wrath toward disco and made every song a "disco sucks!" song.

But even that didn't stop disco's momentum. It get going, healthy and popular, until the early '80s, when it mainly just faded away naturally as a no-longer-relevant genre. Electronic dance music (which itself was really just the evolution of disco) and hip-hop killed it eventually, not punk.

The media used to have a stick here: negative coverage. Sure, you could get us to cover you by being outrageous or offensive, but you wouldn't want that kind of coverage. That kind of coverage could destroy your career.

Lee 60%

Collier 67%

Clay 52.3%

Okaloosa 51.6%

Hernando 53.15%

All pretty much red counties if I'm not mistaken, with a combined population of almost 2 million. Could cut quite a bit into the SE coast's nuttiness with those percentages.

Lee has the biggest population of all of them - almost 750,000.

Madalyn is extremely lucky and is continuing to fight. She has already
gone through open heart surgery, has 2 broken legs (needing multiple
surgeries to try to fix), a displaced pelvis, a broken cheek bone, a
broken wrist, a broken arm, cuts in her kidney and spleen and many other
cuts/bruises. It was noticed there is a small amount of bleeding in
the brain which is going to make the stay in the hospital a little
longer. Unfortunately she won't be able to stay in the hospital too
long because she needs to get back to doing what she loves...riding
horses, dancing, singing, gymnastics and putting a smile on everyone's
face.

She was originally taken to the hospital and prior to

It's not the same, if she wants to be an editorialist, fine, but that's not her role

It would be like catching a referee at work saying he really hopes the team he's officiating loses. can't have that person working anymore.

=============

I think the problem is that one side has so much power over the other.

That's equalizing (has been for decades now), but the fact that the Left carries so much more cultural power over the right (and is losing it) creates a poisonous culture on the left that they force on the rest of the country.

I'm okay with a highly partisan media bickering all the time, even those that sort of try to hide it. It's the power imbalance, and the ongoing correction to that, that seems to be the source of a lot of the issues with the modern day press.

370 good people

I've been slowly going through Lincoln's writings and speeches, and everyone is "bad", that is, flawed, in important ways. Lincoln was continually saying really racist things... and then concluding with amazingly good and righteous stuff like:

I hold that he [the "Negro"] is as much entitled to these as the white man... in the right to eat the bread, without the leave of anybody else, which his own hand earns, he is my equal and the equal of Judge Douglas, and the equal of every living man.

The difference between Lincoln's and Douglas and the other Democrats was that Lincoln held to what we consider today to be conservative values. Lincoln's conservative values allowed him to rise above his flaws, where his contemporaries lacking those values fell below their flaws.

382 So here's my anecdotal tale of voting this morning. In the 30 years I've lived here (in VA-4), I've NEVER had such a problem parking. We were lined up through the church hallway. After handing over my license to the two women who would check me in, another precinct worker came over and took their stack of blank ballots. Seems they were for VA-7, Dave Brat's district! Apparently the mechanized vote reader spit out the VA-7 ballot, which alerted the monitors!

Comparing notes with three friends who vote in different polling places, the story was the same: long lines.

Heller in NV (or McSally in AZ) would need to lose, and then Democrats would have needed to run the table on every D seat in a Trump state.

One thing that might be a winning issue in the future would be "common sense healthcare reform".

My proposal for how? Junk the quasi-cartel approach of standard health insurance completely, make all non-emergency care follow the same standards as vision and dental, where providers are still in competition, and prices behave largely as they ought to. Also pass laws that providers must publish price lists.

Come up with something separate for emergency care.

509 A neutral balanced unbiased press was a key component of the balance of power of democracy.

Bullshit. Never existed.

The "key component" is the multiplicity of views among different newspapers, and that no longer exists. Fox is not terribly different from the Daily News.

It's the single view among all the press that is different, the total dominance of a far-left perspective (and not just left-center) that is different, and very dangerous.

Same problem as exists in academia.

what has been true is that it was balanced between the mostly dual positions.

How does a party lose the popular vote and win seats in a legislative race? There is no electoral college involved.

Posted by: Jen the original at November 06, 2018 03:44 PM

-----------------

In each race you don't. They are talking about national popular vote, which is them bitching about the irrelevant.(As usual)
Now suppose the repubs win 218 races and the dems 217. Now further suppose that the dems win their seats with an average of 99% of the votes in each district and the repubs win with only 51%. The dems would obviously have a LOT more votes nationally and still lose the house.

The question is does his coat tails bump Murphy. Prolly not cause Murph's gonna Murph.

The Dem really botched it when asked how many toll gantries would he put up and he said I don't know. And when asked about what would happen to his toll only on trucks is found to be illegal would he take the gantries down orrrrrrrrrr..... expand the tolls to cars and daily commuters.

Dead silence on air.

No, it wasn't.

Still, I doubt it happens, but holy Jebus, how awesome would it be?

If so, then I agree it means an honest red wave, which I hadn't predicted. I figured that with dems defending in red states, and with the economy, Trump, and he shitshow in Congress, tat they were vulnerable,

Posted by: Donna&&&&&&V. at November 06, 2018 04:22 PM (d6Ksn)

676 @608 Also, thanks to "top two" primaries in California and Washington, you now have primaries where two D's run against each other.

The D's are guaranteed 100% of the vote in those districts, no matter who wins.
-------------------

And we occasionally get instances in which two Republicans run for a heavily Dem district. It's not often, but it's a source of amusement here in California.

678 On the subject of exit polls...

We're coming up on a critical time, when the networks are starting to leak the early exit poll results to their anchors and key pundits so that they hopefully don't look like idiots.

This same thing happened two years ago, but the exit polling was so fucked up that they thought they were winning, and they became even more insufferable in their projections.

Right around the 5:00pm EST see if you can detect any change in the demeanor or an attempt to back peddle a little on their earlier statements.

Remember that the exit polls are normally shit, so either way, stay optimistic.

IIRC Florida and Georgia both have pure electronic vote machines that generate NO hard record and have a volatile memory that CANNOT be interrogated later to track specific votes, bugs that flip the vote to another, etc.
