Sources: NeverTrump Magazines Took Cash from Big Tech to Suppress Stories About Bias and Censorship of Conservatives, Trump Supporters

Now, is this true? Well, Emerald Robinson works for OAN and I assume she wouldn't risk her career with a false claim.

But would her sources maybe float an idea they suspect is true but can't prove is true in hopes that the floated not-really-a-story-but-a-suspicion will attract journalistic attention which will result in proof?

I know that sort of thing happens.

As for the "major newspaper," well, they haven't written a story on it yet, but given the circumstances -- and given this newspaper's liberal/pro-NT biases -- there might be a reason they're suppressing a valid story.

Let's not forget how NBC News deliberately suppressed proof that Avenatti and Swetnick were lying.

That sort of thing happens too. Especially in today's not-even-pretending-not-to-be-pure-propgandists-any-longer media.

I've watched certain pips squeaking since last week and I've wondered about why.

Here's my little conspiracy theory: Certain NeverTrumpers have been howling in NPC Unison that it's "antisemitic" to say bad things about George Soros because they're trying to create the notion that publishing this story would itself be an "antisemitic" incitement against Jews.

They're doing propagandistic pre-innoculation, trying to set up a Narrative that will blockade the actual story from coming out.

#MuhPrivateBusinesses can do whatever they want to do, including bribing "journalists" from writing about their abusive practices, I guess.

I do think it's interesting that the Weekly Standard and most of its writers have declared that discussing George Soros' pernicious influence in politics is inherently and dangerously antisemitic -- and yet the Weekly Standard used to decry Soros' left-wing political influence as if it were just a fact one was permitted to comment upon.

What's changed? Why did noting that Soros was a major left-wing donor who was very pro-socialist and anti-border, anti-sovereignty go from perfectly respectable to Vicious Antisemitism Which is Too Dangerous to Even mention just in the past few months?

And let's not forget: We've known for months that NeverTrump was now being funded by Democrats.

Even the NYT reported on that.

Since Donald J. Trump began dominating American politics more than two years ago, Democrats concerned about his policies and behavior have taken solace in a group of influential Republicans who have consistently assailed the president as anathema to the values of their party, and the country more broadly.

In the past year, however, influential liberal donors and operatives have gone from cheering these so-called Never Trump Republicans to quietly working with --and even funding -- them. Through invitation-only emails and private, off-the-record meetings, they have formed a loose network of cross-partisan alliances aimed at helping neutralize President Trump, and preventing others from capitalizing on weaknesses in the political system that they say he has exploited.

While this network has mostly eschewed electoral politics

If they've mostly eschewed electoral politics, who have they been funding, then?

Electoral politics of course refers to elections and elected officials. If they've avoided funding that previously, who have they been funding?

Politically-influential NeverTrumpers who are not running for office?

Hm, sound like anyone you know?

..some involved see the potential for it to help form an ideological --and possibly financial ---platform to back candidates, including a centrist challenge to Mr. Trump in 2020, possibly from within the G.O.P. or even a third party.

The network —--composed of overlapping groups led by Democrats such as the donor Rachel Pritzker and several veteran Obama administration operatives, as well as leading Never Trump Republicans like Evan McMullin, Mindy Finn and William Kristol -- aims to chart a middle path between a Republican base falling in line behind Mr. Trump and a liberal resistance trying to pull the Democratic Party left.

...

Yet they are arguably more united than past efforts by their concern over threats to democracy they contend are embodied by a single politician: Mr. Trump.

It’s an amorphous, somewhat secretive effort, partly because some participants fear Mr. Trump and his allies would brand Never Trump Republicans as pawns of Democrats. Meeting locations, agendas and attendees are mostly kept quiet, while political intelligence is privately shared between participants on opposite sides of the political spectrum.

But some of the collaboration is becoming more overt.

Over the last couple of months, network members filed amicus briefs accusing Mr. Trump of overstepping his authority on matters ranging from immigration to his administration's efforts to block a merger between AT&T and Time Warner.

Well, hm, that seems to involve the media and tech.

...

The Niskanen Center hosts a semimonthly invitation-only gathering of Trump critics called the Meeting of the Concerned, which attendees are asked to keep confidential. While it is attended primarily by a rotating cast of Never Trump Republicans -- including the pundit Mr. Kristol and the former Representative Mickey Edwards -- meetings sometimes include a Democrat or two presenting research or analysis on relevant issues. Attendees have included Ian Bassin, a former Obama White House lawyer who founded a watchdog group, Protect Democracy, that has sued the Trump administration and that has brought on staff members and advisers --including Mr. Taylor =- from conservative or Republican backgrounds.

...

The discussions at Patriots and Pragmatists meetings are intended to focus on big picture topics related to democracy, rather than elections or political funding. Nonetheless, some see the coalition as having the potential to bring the same kind of financial firepower to an anti-Trump centrist movement as the Democracy Alliance brought to the left. Its efforts were described by a dozen people familiar with the group, who spoke anonymously to describe private discussions.

Speaking of the Democracy Alliance -- George Soros is a major funder of just that.

Are we still allowed to mention that? I don't know, the rules change so quickly these days.

BTW: I know a NeverTrumper who does political ops. I don't know this NeverTrumper well enough that he (or she) would disclose anything consequential to me, but I do know this person's friend, who this person would disclose stuff to.

And the word I get from this NeverTrumper's friend is: Yes, of course, the Democrats are now funding the political operations of the NeverTrumpers -- who else would? they've divorced themselves from mainstream Republicanism and therefore any other clients -- and this is an overt thing they don't even bother trying to keep a secret.

It occurs to me that if you bribed judges or bureaucrats, that is to say professionals who in theory depend on objectivity, you would go to prison. So why is bribing journalists acceptable professional ethics?

Could it be that modern journalism doesn't have standards and ethics, so isn't actually a profession?

It isn't. Press freedom is very important in free societies. Like hate speech is still free speech, crappy press still has to be free.

But, if he insists on saying it, he should say "OLD media". That would be true in many ways (e.g., WaPo, NYT, CNN) and doesn't attack those telling truth. Not such broad brushstrokes.

Someone tell him please. It also cushions him from attacks.

Plus, it would make them insane to be called "old". Old is an Insult in America society.

Everyone who already suspected them of this has left them.

They're being paid merely to existing as an attack wing of the Democrat party. To act the part of the "conservative" on the show, except of course they offer only criticism of conservatives.

Why it is that Democrats feel the need to spend money on this is beyond me, but I don't get how there is any credibility there to be destroyed in the first place.

Even Breitbart and Ace keep linking to the goings on of the NeverTrump movement. Apparently because they're so influential and intellectual?

Here's the thing, they have zero influence on the President. The Trump Administration has mostly done the opposite of whatever George Bush would do, with the exception of tax cuts. Certain aggregators still discuss what happens at TWS and NR anyways. Why? The Federalist has only so much content, and original reporting is time consuming. Not to mention it typically requires money that grassroots sites don't have.

How to fix it? Maybe we should pay a lot more attention to Sundance and Sailer. For all their flaws, they often have decent insights into actual news, and come up with intelligent commentary.

Or, we could start making our own news. Imagine that.

George Bush lost the midterms because of a disastrous war in Iraq and a -stupid- plan to privatize Social Security. The corruption scandals engulfing multiple Republicans certainly didn't help.

What's so hard to understand? And then Rush Limbaugh and right-wing hate radio got on the air, and made a lot of nice, sleepy Americans unhappy. And then, suddenly, in 1994, the angry white male voter came to the polls and said "out with those ass wipes!"

I can tell you, Cokey Roberts was mightily upset, and her parents from beyond the grave (and her brother who was one of the biggest lobbyists in Washington) made her say how bad it was. (father was Hale Boggs, onetime bigwig Majority leader in Congress, then fell out of the sky in bad airplane)

Sounds likely. Billyboy's ship has sailed and no one would believe his 'reversal'. Jonah G, for example has claimed many times that his stance is purely principled, and has cost him much money.

Maybe not so much though?

I think it's the people who maybe have to pay others' salaries, like magazine owners/boards, and owners of political spin outfits, and maybe some of the jagoffs on Twitter maybe get paid $20 or so dollar a post to propagandize.

A lot of people, like Jonah, not only have salaries but also get paid by "think tanks." So he doesn't have to take a bribe.

For another, as I say in the headline, the Giselle Donnelly phenomenon represents the institutionalization of the transgender revolution.

Think of it: a 65 year old man who has spent his life as a national security hawk working among conservative elites, as a fixture in one of the two most powerful right-of-center think tanks in Washington, now says he's a woman, and presents himself as such. Those same elites--- represented by Brooks and Pletka --- embrace his transition uncritically. This signals to the rest of official conservative Washington that this is not only okay, but expected of them. If you are a social or religious conservative who objects to what kinkster hawk Donnelly has done, you are now officially at odds with the leadership of the conservative Inner Ring. You will find yourself marginalized --- not openly, not at first, but it's going to happen, and happen faster than you think.

Trying to engineer election fraud in this environment has a serious risk of sparking really bad consequences against the beneficiaries. And by that I do not mean Tweets.

The Left is playing with really bad fire if they try to do that. I used to think that it was out of ignorance. Sadly, the realist in me now speaks up and suggests they will do it anyway because they want power that bad.

362 one of the steps of Satan deceiving Eve was "Omit a word"

The fake news media (which is actually most of it, but that is not the point) ... in reporting what Trump said, revealed that they are indeed liars and fakes.

Trump says fake news is an enemy of the people.
MFM "reports" (lies) and says Trump claims the Media is the enemy of the people.

When the media pretends to be fair and balanced but is really taking orders from the DNC, coordinating their own Narrative, and even changing the words (or just omitting vital context) ... then they are not News, they are fakes, twisting facts to turn them into lies.

Satan said they would be like God, "Thou shalt not surely die" ... but Adam and Eve did die spiritually, they lost the direct connection to God. Our media also thinks they can be like God, if they can get us to eat from their poisoned tree of PC knowledge.

They were never really interested in winning. Winning would require making policy choices. They were happy to serve as the foil of D legislation. 390 One of the biggest problems in the current Media landscape is Conservative media.

Still, daily, Conservative Media spends its time rebutting the Democrat Narrative of the Moment (TM). On principle, I don't read/watch NYT, WaPo, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, NBC, ABC, CBS, etc., etc. I don't click on their links at news aggregation sites either.

But amazingly, I'm completely current on their current Narrative Drives because Conservative media covers them ad nauseum, and has made a cottage industry out of debunking and defending Progressive smears.

I guess this is something that must be done, but still waiting for a Conservative news entity to figure out that we don't need to play the Dems' games.

Fundamental Unserved: Top 25 issues important to voters. Instead, it's Caravan or Mueller or Stormy Daniels or Transgender or Race Baiting or whatever, either promoting these stories or defending against them. Coverage from both sides have this in common: We talk about Progressive Narratives. Big problem, and I don't know the solution.

397 Actually he trump presidency seems like a mix of the Reagan presidency and the Nixon presidency.

Posted by: SH at October 30, 2018 06:15 PM (F4kQO)

398 The Never Trump intellectual crowd has no momentum and no popular following these days. Consider the trajectory of their would-be leader Kristol, who appears to be indulging in a personal fantasy by putting himself forward as a candidate, as his rapport with GOP voters includes trying to run Evan McMullin in Utah to throw the 2016 election to Hillary Clinton. When that stunt failed, Kristol personally insulted the pro-Trump writer Michael Anton for his influential essay "The Flight 93 election." Then Kristol's commentator gig with Fox was not renewed, and he was soon accusing Tucker Carlson of "ethno-nationalism" and "racism." Overshadowing all of these breaks was Kristol's personal history of being the conservative's answer to Bob Shrum, a political "pro" who was always very wrong about politics

Hah! Again, how did I miss this?

Xxxxxxxxxx

Okay, I believe this. I was surprised he would do a logo considering his Kardashian connection. Also, his stance has really cost him in celeb circles.

Rush said he was our nut now...maybe he is, maybe he isn't. We may only have custody a few weeks a year.

Other blacks who have spoken out, who are much more sane and tough than Kanye, have been shut down. So, that he would be is not a surprise. Also, his marriage and kids should take precedence.

415 Interesting about trying to chart a course between the Trump Right and the screamers on the Left.

These oligarchs DO NOT want socialism in this country. Not the type being promoted by Bernie or Occasional-Cortex. That type of socialism means these tycoons lose everything.

The problem here is that they think they can cobble together a win from the center. There is no center left now. Not enough of one to win a presidential election (it was never big enough to do that). It's actually smaller than ever. Nobody is going to fall for this let's talk in calm tones while sitting in front of a background of swirling pastel colors while we talk about another free trade agreement or the inside baseball about India's next election and what that means for the BRIC countries.

++++++++++

Hahhahhhhahhah.... (breathes deeply)...Bahahahahahhah.

Come on, dude. The NYT deserves the "prestigious" moniker to the same extent Obama was deserving of the Nobel Peace Price. NYT is the ringleader of the NPC movement. It's completely pointless to read Krugman or to follow Haberman's rantings of the day. Here, let me summarize every NYT article in the past, present and future:

"President Trump (or the GOP) did/proposed "X"
Yada
Yada
Yada
Orange Man bad. Conservatives are stupid, evil, homophobic, misogynistic, racist Nazis (*)."

* Yada Yadas may or may not be true, accurate or complete or consistent with positions we espoused when the same thing was proposed by a Progressive or by one of our reporters or columnists.

That they still get to be good conservatives that oppose the Democrats ? The only thing these fools have going for them is to become full on Democrats. Otherwise, whenever the Democrats regain something, somewhere, or if they just outlast Trump until 2024, they're done.

Narcissism, arrogance, I don't know, but it's staggering how these fools cannot see the plain reality right in front of their faces.
