The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

'What I dislike is the left-wing media in America are trying to smear the bloke as a racist and that's completely not true.' Johnny Rotten

Quote II

“This is the story of Goldilocks and the two bears. The porridge is either too hot or it’s too cold. At any given moment in this city, the police are criticized for being heavy-handed and intervening too quickly, or they’re being criticized for being standoffish and not intervening quickly enough.” Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler

Quote III

“I was asked by the chair of the Allegheny County Democratic Party to resign my position due to the controversy that was taking place on social media, and I did. It’s never easy when people you have never met accuse you of things and call you names, and you’ve never met them.” Mark Salvas

Quote IV

“Focusing on performance advantage is largely irrelevant because this is a rights issue. We shouldn’t be worried about trans people taking over the Olympics. We should be worried about their fairness and human rights instead.” Rachel McKinnon

The science is settled! How often do we hear this? The next time you hear this remind them of this study.

Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital have recommended that 31 papers from a former lab director be retracted from medical journals.

The papers from the lab of Dr. Piero Anversa, who studied cardiac stem cells, “included falsified and/or fabricated data,” according to a statement to Retraction Watch and STAT from the two institutions.

Last year, the hospital agreed to a $10 million settlement with the U.S. government over allegations Anversa and two colleagues’ work had been used to fraudulently obtain federal funding. Anversa and Dr. Annarosa Leri — who have had at least one paper already retracted, and one subject to an expression of concern — had at one point sued Harvard and the Brigham unsuccessfully for alerting journals to problems in their work back in 2014. Anversa’s lab closed in 2015; Anversa, Leri, and their colleague Dr. Jan Kajstura no longer work at the hospital.

Where is the outrage? Remember when Rush Limbaugh uttered, I hope Obama fails.

Where is the Leftist outrage now, when one of their own talk about overthrow?

“The way we implement change in America is through elections. We change governments here at home in an orderly and formal way,” the actor said.

“In that orderly and formal way and lawful way, we need to overthrow the government of the United States under Donald Trump.”

Does Silicon Valley have a problem with Saudi Arabia? Some people think so.

Somewhere in the United States, someone is getting into an Uber en route to a WeWork co-working space. Their dog is with a walker whom they hired through the app Wag. They will eat a lunch delivered by DoorDash, while participating in several chat conversations on Slack. And, for all of it, they have an unlikely benefactor to thank: the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Long before the dissident Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi vanished, the kingdom has sought influence in the West — perhaps intended, in part, to make us forget what it is. A medieval theocracy that still beheads by sword, doubling as a modern nation with malls (including a planned mall offering indoor skiing), Saudi Arabia has been called “an ISIS that made it.” Remarkably, the country has avoided pariah status in the United States thanks to our thirst for oil, Riyadh’s carefully cultivated ties with Washington, its big arms purchases, and the two countries’ shared interest in counterterrorism. But lately the Saudis have been growing their circle of American enablers, pouring billions into Silicon Valley technology companies.

Next time he might use a spork. And avoid the drugs. Genius Award Winner.

Messing with the police? Remember they have guns and are Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WPMI) - Looting led to a deadly shooting overnight in Panama City, Florida.

Witness Landon Swett said a man tried to steal a police car.

"He yelled at me a little bit. He said, oh I’m looting and he opened the door to the police officer’s SUV with the lights going, got in it and shut the door,” said Swett.
That's when Swett took his family to safety. Moments later, shots were fired.

7 I knew I was going to get willowed, so y'all are getting this again:

Twilight in the Mexican desert slowly falls as the Honduran invasion force settles in for their evening meal. The people talk about the long journey behind them, and the trials still to come before they reach the United States and the free shit that awaits them when they arrive.

Gradually, a noise in the sky envelopes the encampment. The simple people, unaware and unused to to modern technology, are anxious as to the sounds portent and become nervous. Suddenly, seemingly without direction, the sound is overtop them, and small objects appear floating slowly down in the camps direction. Panic ensues, pots are dumped, and fires are kicked out as the people scatter in all directions to take cover. Their handlers had not warned them of any type of response, much less one that could come from the sky without warning.

The objects come to rest on the ground. A low, frightened keening comes from the group as the leaders approach the first of the objects. Keeping their distance, they circle around to observe fron all angles before they finally recogognize the objects as...paper?. The guide picks the first one up, unwraps it, and reads

"Regresar a tus hogares o lo que te enfrenta es más terrible de lo que puedas imaginar. Tienes dos días. De lo contrario el deber del canal espera."

The guide gathers the frightened masses, and reassures them that a message from the Mexican government has arrived, and that all is prepared for their passage.

Two days later, at dawn, Apache gunships rise from behind the horizon and begin their approach...

42 The Gimme Shelter link is interesting. Keef has every right to sing the song, but he's not Mick.

I am fascinated by the stories of musicians who over time grow to loathe each other but can't really live without each other.

Pete Townsend has come to recognize that he needs Roger Daltrey to bring his songs to market. Townsend is a genius and Daltrey has no idea what he's singing, but Daltrey gives it emotion and Townsend is reedy and flat.

Mick has the lyrics, the stage presence, the vocal chops, and the sense. Keef has nothing but an Id that's plugged into the heart of blues which somehow comes out of his fingers. And it works.

Then you get you Davies brothers...

Refusing to provide police protection to vendors harassed by Antifa, because they were serving Portland's ICE office, was a genius move, wasn't it, Ted?

Can't imagine why Antifa thinks that it can operate with impunity. Antifa now routinely attacks opponents with bear or pepper spray, and then Ted's cops boast that they made no arrests.

P.S. Ted is Portland's police commissioner, along with being mayor.

68 When does one come to the conclusion they should be the opposite sex

With teenagers (and even preteens now) it often happens because the kid is depressed or has an anxiety disorder, doesn't fit in well at school, and blames their misery on their birth sex rather than looking for the real cause. The other factor is social contagion: in a lot of high schools, it's "cool" to be trans, so kids will often "come out" after several of their friends claim to be trans. There are also a lot of trans websites where kids can pick up tips on how to lie to your parents and doctors in order to get the hormones needed to start to transition.

Unfortunately, Warren is probably the weakest of the likely Democratic Presidential candidates - she is a terrible campaigner, and she will hardly turn out the black vote.

Trump accurately noted that he didn't want to damage Warren too badly, because she was such a weak choice.

https://abc7ny.com/police-livery-driver-beat-man-walking-to-brooklyn-synagogue/4483796/

Jew being beaten by someone with a very arabic sounding name.

The reason given was the jewish guy was blocking the arab guy's car. But the jewish guy was walking. To pray at synagogue. Not in a car.

So the mere act of walking across the street, in front of an arab muslim, is provocation enough.

150 So Baldwin is saying we need to unelect Trump. I'm missing the outrageous element here. He defined "overthrow" in our context as elections. But I didn't read the whole thing.

And "our thirst for oil". Sort of like saying our "thirst for oxygen" on the biological side. Oil is the blood of modern economic activity. Period. Always has been, always will be (for as long into the future as anyone can credibly project).

So the Gulf since WWII has had *strategic* importance - vital importance. And, shockingly, we have protected those interests - with spectacular success, given the various challenges. Oh - and S.A. is an "ISIS that made it" - there's about as pure an inversion of the situation (in all aspects) as one could imagine. But glib and stupid in the typical way.

Carry on.

All of us need to be grateful we enjoy the privilege of living here.

What we're dealing with currently is as perilous as a few other situations in our history--we prevailed there and I have utter faith this will be no different.

It's an attempt to translate Psalm 42:1 into modern English. The King James version has "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, even so, panteth my soul after Thee, O my God." "As a deer longs for flowing streams" would be clearer than "as the deer pants," if it's modern English you want.

These fire ants are just something else. I had a little episode this afternoon. It's got cool enough and I wanted to do some bushhogging and get this place half way decent looking.

I need to do some tight stuff, so I decided to get the little 6' bush hog hooked up to the 3910. It had been sitting for some time under a shed, right at the end. Damn PTO shaft end had slipped out some and jobbed right in the ground.

But that wasn't the worst of it by far. There was YUGE fire ant hill all over. Damn things had build up a huge mound right over the PTO shaft.

What to do. They were gonna swarm if I disturbed it, so I got a can of ant killer spray, and then quickly picked the shaft up, pushed it back and laid it aside, then sprayed the hell out of it with the ant killer.

Then I got the hell out of there, and gave 'em 30 minutes to settle down. I then carefully back the tractor up, hooked it up, and then got it out of there.

Now, the coupler was full of dirt and I had to clean that sucker out good to get it to slide on the tractor shaft.

Then I greased the hell of it.

By using the term "trans girl", you are in effect accepting their premise that one actually can transition to the opposite sex. That is false. The most they can do is mutilate themselves into shabby simulacrums of the opposite sex.

I'm not really ragging on you, Dave. It's just so damn easy to let the Left set the terms of discourse, and we fall into the trap.

It's worse than that. They declare that one's biological sex is irrelevant to whether one is a girl or a boy.

Heck, they even declares that there are more than two biological sexes with dozens of "sex determining genes" thus creating a "spectrum" of biological sexes.

392 By the way, English isn't really all the languages in Europe, it is merely most of the Indo-european languages of Western Europe shaken together.

Hugh Cook once referred to English as a brutal Creole, but he was wrong. It isn't really a Creole. It's more of a pidgin.

Posted by: Kindltot - Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt at October 15, 2018 11:39 PM (mUa7G)

It's really neither, nor anything close. English is not any mash-up of Euro languages or some party-mix of words here and there. English is a very distinctive language with a radically different method of organization, from the very root. English is concerned more than any of the Euro languages with time and action over time. That is why we have tons of tenses in English (and the ability to easily add many more) because English took the time function out of the verb (where it is imprisoned in all the Euro languages I know of, and many others) and put it all out on its own.

That's why we don't really have verbs, per se, in English, and we don't have nouns. We just have words that can serve pretty much any function depending on how the phrase is structured around them. In English, the most important aspect is what is happening, over what time period, and when did/will it finish or continue. This is why we have tenses such as "have had", "will have had", had been xxxxxing" etc. and why English has almost totally done away with the concept of gender for words (outside of actual gender for the people the words describes). We have replaced the old idea of conjugating verbs (the only verb left with a full conjugation in English is "to be" which is the main structural word for forming tenses) for the new method of using helping verbs and structural words to fashion concise and exact descriptions of actions and the time factors involved.

English is no made-up language mix. It is not a bastard language. It is a construct far superior to all Euro languages (and all others I have any familiarity with) and, because of this it has become the language of the most successful populations in the world and, hence, the language of the world for business, entertainment, science, ... And because English has become the de facto "world language" it absorbs many words from non-English speakers when there is something that English has lacked (or that just strikes English speakers' fancies).

But make no mistake; English is very different from those other languages in the most fundamental ways. And it is far superior to them because of that. Far, far superior.

Heh. Thanks, Jim.

I understand that people like to joke about English ransacking other languages and mugging foreigners for words and such ... but many English speakers hear this stuff and don't really know how fundamentally different English is from other languages.

I had friends in Israel who spoke very good English but I started wondering about their thinking because there are many different tenses in English that all translate to the same, simple tense in Hebrew. 416 A fast solution to a troublesome fire ant mound is to dose it with a pint of gasoline. The fumes smother the entire bed fairly quickly.

*No warranties implied, do this at your own risk, void where prohibited, read the damn MSDS info first, wear appropriate protective gear, especially don't do this in CA or anywhere else that it might be illegal, I'm not a licensed exterminator nor do I pretend to be one, I fucking hate fire ants, anyone need some nice lace wigs?*

425 I understand that people like to joke about English ransacking other languages and mugging foreigners for words and such ... but many English speakers hear this stuff and don't really know how fundamentally different English is from other languages.

I had friends in Israel who spoke very good English but I started wondering about their thinking because there are many different tenses in English that all translate to the same, simple tense in Hebrew. So I started asking them about things and I found that, even though they sounded fluent in English they really didn't understand the difference between "I was going", "I had been going", "I had gone", and "I have been going". There is much more flexibility gained in the language when the time delineation is taken out of the verb conjugation (and the person, for the most part, too).

It's like the difference between semitic alphabets (without vowels) and the Greek alphabet, which introduced the independent vowels as letters (purely by mistake). All of a sudden the alphabet is truly phonetic (and able to be used far more generally, even to easily encompass many words outside of the language) than the semitic syllabic alphabets. Sure, they all had vowels, but the semitic alphabets had those vowels bound up within the written consonants. Greek allowed one to place vowels anywhere and to truly sound out words rather than have the alphabet only work on words of a certain form.

446 "This is the story of Goldilocks and the two bears. The porridge is either too hot or it's too cold. At any given moment in this city, the police are criticized for being heavy-handed and intervening too quickly, or they're being criticized for being standoffish and not intervening quickly enough." Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler

I saw that in JJ's morning report linked article. The problem with what he says is obvious - the police should do what's right, not what they might be criticized for. You could construct a reductio ad absurdum: if police stop a thug from robbing a woman then his fellow thugs will criticize the police as being "heavy handed". So no we are faced with a conundrum and maybe they should allow muggings. Then what need is there for police? one might ask.

You could also observe that Wheeler seems to think he can abstain from sympathizing with either side. But of course, he's siding with one side. The side that thinks police intervening to enforce law is "heavy handed" and that therefore they should not do it. He can't complain as if he's staying aloof from that debate. He's not - he's already weighed in.

Except the time delineation really isn't taken out of the whole verb, just out of the root. It's still in the helper verb. Romance languages (mostly) bundle it all in the verb. English substitutes a verb phrase, which is not as compact. But a lot easier in practice, since we really only have to conjugate the helper verbs.

I always thought of the 1600-1750 baroque dudes as the metalheads of the era. From a classical guitar point of view their stuff was always way more fun, like ballsy, and usually seems written for guitar like instruments to start with, lute, 5 course guitar, vihuela, etc. That later composers stuff always seems like it has to be adapted from violin, or cello. There are some lute suites, but the early stuff just has this thing to it.

Yep. Self-destructive behavior is not limited to rock musicians, not by a long shot.

Another big drain on the ranks of touring musicians is transportation accidents. Car wrecks, plane crashes. I had a childhood friend who got into music, and ended up in a Vancouver prog/psychedelic rock band called Motherhood. He and another musician were on their way to a gig, and hit, or were hit (unclear) by a train in a level crossing. Of course, kind of nuts to have a level crossing on a 70mph four lane freeway. But it was 1972...

Nah.
Spanish actually has more compound tenses than English does, formed with the auxiliary HABER (have) and ESTAR (be.) It also has more inflected (ending-change) tenses.
Likewise Portuguese.

All of the Romance languages (Latin excepted) form the perfect tenses with "to have" and the perfect participle rather than inflecting the verb.

(Latin does have a couple of compound tenses but only in the passive voice.)

488 All of the Romance languages (Latin excepted) form the perfect tenses with "to have" and the perfect participle rather than inflecting the verb.

(Latin does have a couple of compound tenses but only in the passive voice.)

It's been a long time since my classes, but I always found it difficult trying to keep straight the subtle difference between verbs which referred to an ongoing state of affairs versus verbs referring to a single instance of an action. I had a Latin teacher who was obsessed with this detail and constantly focussed on it, and how it affected the way to tenses were rendered.

For example, One might say, "When we were young, I stole your lunch money." In English, that sentence is unavoidably ambiguous. Does it mean that there was one day in the past, where in a single incident I stole your lunch money once? Or does it mean that in general, day after day for our entire youths, I constantly stole your lunch money on a daily basis, as a ongoing state of affairs? In English you can't know which meaning is intended; but in Latin (if I remember correctly) and perhaps some modern languages, depending of the verb tense used, the sentence can clearly refer to either a single incident on a ongoing series of acts. Of course, by now I've long forgotten the grammatical details of what the tenses were or how the sentences would be constructed.

The paper said that fire ants were not killed until they were subjected to -15 Celsius. They killed the mounds by driving a hole down into the mound with a soil-sampling tool, and then inserting a pointed tubular wand with crosswise drilled holes, into that hole in the mound. Wand was on a hose connected to a Dewar of liquid nitrogen, and they opened the valve, and let about 2 gallons run through, or until it flooded out onto the surface of the ground.

501 This is why progressivism will never take hold with the mainstream, and is untenable as a cultural movement:

Berkeley, CA has a "top-notch" theater called the "Berkeley Rep" which is highly regarded as a high-class place to watch plays and theater performances. Its typical audience are elderly limousine liberal white ex-hippies -- you know the type.

So, what is this season's big play at the Berkeley Rep? A new play called "Fairview," written by some young black woman first-time playwright, "discovered" in a "diversity outreach seminar" that the theater company arranges. (Translation: Affirmative Action choice for a new play.)

The "plot," if you can call it that, is beyond belief:

Act I: Middle-calls black family comes on stage, acts all middle class, says a bunch of boring middle-class dialog, has middle-class concerns.

Act II: The exact same actors wearing the exact same clothes playing the exact same characters come out on stage in the exact same set and re-enact the exact same scene -- silently. Instead of them speaking, however, the audience hears white-sounding voices coming from speakers, voices which "reveal how white people think," enunciating "racist" and "condescending" attitudes about how commendable it is that black people are becoming middle class and acting all white. It apparently is supposed to represent what the thoughts were of the white audience as it watched Act !.

Act III: The exact same scene is enacted all over again a third time, again with everything being exactly the same -- except THIS TIME all the actors are white. The purpose behind this is to reveal that the characters were white all along, but that black actors were forced to portray white people in the first scene. It is revealed that the play is a critique of 1990s sitcoms (referring to the Cosby Show in particular, I suspect), in which unwittingly racist white scriptwriters wrote racist sitcoms for white audiences in which black actors were forced to depict white-acting characters, to please the sensibilities of mainstream liberal white America.

Act IV: The entire audience of white people is herded on-stage, while one of the black actresses goes out to the back of the now-empty seats, and she faces the white people and basically unleashes a hate-fille diatribe at them about how white people are racist, and all you white people on-stage need to examine your racist attitudes and feel real guilty about your evil white racism.

The end.

Needless to say, the deeply insane rich white self-loathing progressives are loving this play. But everyone else in existence? I suspect they wouldn't attend this "performance" for all the money in the world.

The local paper write a review of it -- pretty incompetently. But it confirms most of the details, if you're curious:

Yeah. But the issue also can rise in the present tense. "You are late" refers to a single incident that is happening right now -- you didn't arrive on time -- versus "You are brave," referring to a state of being about you which is true now and always, and is not a single incident but an ongoing status. Although both sentences have "are" in them, there are actually different versions/tenses of "to be" to convey these difference types of is-ness.

I think.

Posted by: zombie at October 16, 2018 03:14 AM (c+2jX)

Well, in Spanish, and I think Margarita will back me up on this, one uses the verb "estar" which means "to be" in the incidental sense. So, the "late" statement would be formulated using estar. But bravery is an inherent and basically immutable property of the person described, so the verb "ser" would be used. Used to describe one's occupation, or nationality, etc.

In English, it's not so much the verb that conveys the endurance of the property as it is the word for the property itself. "Brave" is a fundamental and enduring property, unless otherwise modified. And "late" is a transient condition, unless otherwise modified.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at October 16, 2018 03:26 AM (iwUO9)

514 I think one of the big stumbling blocks to learning formal grammar is that they hit you with a bewildering array of names for verb tenses and grammatical constructions, without ever stepping back asking the question, "why do we want to study grammar?"

If you ponder that for a while, it becomes evident that this bewildering array of technical terms was invented in an attempt to accurately describe those situations that we as a society developed ways to talk about. In other words, grammar is analytical, not presciptive.

They're both grammatically present tense.
In English, there's no way to differentiate.

In Spanish (but not Latin) you have two different "to be" verbs which allow the distinction you are making --- ESTAR for temporary/situational being and SER for essential traits.

For example, if you say someone is (SER) crazy, it means that they are a mentally ill person. If you say that they are (ESTAR) crazy, they are acting crazy at that time. If I say you are (SER) beautiful, it means essentially so. If I say you are (ESTAR) beautiful, it means you look so right now.

Sometimes adjectives have different meanings depending on SER/ESTAR. ESTAR listo is to be ready. SER listo is to be quick-witted, sharp.

And of course there are always obnoxious exceptions, as with time of day---can't get more temporary than that!---which is expressed with SER!

I might add that in English we use verbs like "to look," "to act," etc., where Spanish would just use ESTAR.
So the distinctions can easily be made.

551 392-- Answer to ThePrimordialOrderedPair
English is a
very distinctive language with a radically different method of
organization, from the very root.
No, English is close to other Germanic languages (German, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Afrikaans, etc).

English is concerned more than any of
the Euro languages with time and action over time.
So why do other European languages have just as many tense distinctions as English?

That is why we have
tons of tenses in English (and the ability to easily add many more)
because English took the time function out of the verb (where it is
imprisoned in all the Euro languages I know of, and many others) and put
it all out on its own.

No European language "imprisons" tense distinctions in the verb. Some of them use inflection* to indicate tense to a higher degree than English (e.g. Spanish). But all European languages, as far as I know, use periphrasis** to form compound tenses (like have eaten or is running).

* What linguists call verb conjugation and noun declination.

** Verbal expressions that use a helping verb.

That's why we don't really have verbs, per se, in English, and we
don't have nouns.
English has roots that can function as either (like cook), but syntactically, there is a large difference between nouns and verbs. For instance, nouns, but not verbs, can take the definite article the.

It is true that English speakers often employ prototypical nouns as verbs. This is possible in many other European languages, and furthermore the acceptability of such a conversion depends on factors like register and context. You could conceivably use ninja as a nonce verb when speaking informally and context makes it clear what you mean (perhaps something like "enact violence on" or "do stealthily"). I wouldn't say that ninja merits being listed as a verb in a dictionary.

Even languages where you cannot use a bare noun as a verb have means for creating new verbs. Swedish allows unrestricted derivation of verbs from nouns by tacking on
the ending -a, as in googla "to google something" or rassa "to be a racist" from rasse "racist." Some of these new verbs enter the dictionary (the former), while others are jocular or not widely used (the latter). Japanese simply combines a noun with suru "do": toutyaku suru "arrive" (do arrival), kanningu suru "cheat on a test" (do cheating). English arguably does this too: you say he is doing maths and not he is mathing.

Every language in the world probably has a means for creating new verbal expressions, whether they do it like English (by "zero-derivation"), like Swedish (morphological means), or like Japanese (by combining a noun with a semantically bleached verb like do).

The same could be said for conversion in the opposite direction (verb to noun). Here, English is actually fairly complicated, as many verbs show several nominalizations, e.g. cook (profession, no overt marker of nounhood), cooker (appliance) and cooking (action). Semantic transparency, inclusion in dictionaries and situational appropriateness of such formulations depend on innumerable factors. There is nothing simple, regular or unusual (in comparison to other languages) about it.

In
English, the most important aspect is what is happening, over what time
period, and when did/will it finish or continue
Tense and aspect are important in all European languages that I know of. As other posters have pointed out, Romance languages are better than English at indicating whether an action was repeated in the past or only occurred once.

This is why we have

Other European languages have these tense/aspect distinctions, especially in western Europe.

for the new method of using helping
verbs and structural words to fashion concise and exact descriptions of
actions and the time factors involved.
It is not a "new method." Ancient Greek and Latin used periphrasis, as did Anglo-Saxon and medieval Romance, as does practically every single modern European language.

Others have already remarked that Romance languages are more explicit than English with regards to the "repeated occurrence" vs. "single occurrence" distinction.

because of this it has become the

language of the world for business, entertainment, science, ...
No, that has to do with the British Empire and the prominence of the US in modern culture and politics. The ascendancy of English has nothing to do with its grammatical structure, as you claim.

Would you argue that Arabic is "superior" because it is widely spoken and has supplanted many other languages in North Africa and the Middle East, like Coptic and Aramaic? Or would you say that this is more linked to conquests in the past and to Islam?

High school students with an hour on the bus would fit that description. School schedules are broken into bells, with HS students arriving first, in most metro and suburban areas.

The reason is school busses need to then pick up elementary students when it is not dark. And IIANM, few school system every has enough drivers or school busses to take everyone to school at the same time.

You have told us you are in a committed relationship that is long distance. And you are happy together.

But you analyze every item when apart.

I am not an expert on this thing called love, but being happy when together is a good sign. And good couples find a way to deal if you are apart. Lots of that in the military, for example. It can be done.

I may not have lived it, since I was a gadabout in the Service, but I have seen it.

Well...to respond...I am an overthinker on life in general. It's one of my worst faults. I drive my friends nuts (I'm sure your shocked) with my overanalyzation of every little detail.

In this particular situation...it's kind of a weird dichotomy. As we get closer and closer, it's not that we fight, but things can get a little more snippy, a little more real. Rather than the rainbows and sunshine of the beginning stages, the "real me" comes out more, which is usually a good thing, but sometimes not so good.

So, since we have more real moments, it makes me worry the "bad" moments will start to overshadow our whole time together, if that makes sense. So, then it's back to the previously mentioned overthinking and insecurity.

Vicious cycle, I tell ya.

573 I can see why in the cities the Dems make it. They tell everyone that the Repubs are going to take away the free stuff, and the are believed, or at least scare everyone who gets it. 574 Dear Tickled Pink,

Normally, I only offer my services for a nominal fee - as a token of respect to my chosen profession. However, in this case, I am quite moved to offer my expertise on a pro bono basis.

Your relationship obviously suffers from a lack of trust - extremely common in these matters, really. These issues, if not confronted, can lead to serious long-term consequences if not the complete dissolution of the fledgeling union. I've seen it time and time again.

Various trust exercises can be implemented - including many of the tired old cliche routines ... such as falling into waiting arms and such. My advice - of which I have a long and established history of success - is more dynamic. In your case, I would prescribe an intense session of bondage-themed sexual interactions, featuring various sadistic and masochistic actions, preferably in an undisclosed location, and most definitely without any emotional crutches such as a "safe word".

Only through such complete personal surrender will you and your partner achieve the total and immediate trust that you both so desperately crave. I look forward to hearing your results.

Skepticism is a common, if misplaced, reaction from those who lack a sufficient degree of self-confidence. Part of my mission, as a Certified Relationship Counselor, is to instill that confidence - methaphorical brick by brick. I continue to offer my services, including individual counseling sessions guaranteed to increase self-confidence. The dress code is casual - although thigh-high boots are recommended.

Her Diary:

Tonight, I thought my husband was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a nice restaurant for dinner. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late but he made no comment on it. Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed but he didn't say much. I asked him what was wrong. He said "Nothing". I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said he wasn't upset, that it had nothing to do with me and not to worry about it. One the way home, I told him that I loved him. He smiled slightly and kept driving. I can't explain his behavior. I don't know why he didn't say "I love you too". When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there quietly and watched TV. He continued to seem distant and absent. Finally, with silence all around us, I decided to go to bed. About 15 minutes later, he came to bed. But I still felt that he was distracted and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep. I cried. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.

642 When Mrs VIA met me, I was living in a 1 bedroom apartment.

Furniture was a computer desk and chair.
Bed with dresser.

Kitchen was equipped with a toaster, and a few pieces of silverware.
Coffee pot.

Steam iron, to iron uniforms on the computer desk with a towel underneath.

And I vacuumed using a shopvac.

I could field day the entire apartment in under 30 minutes, and still have a cup of coffee and a cigarette in those thirty minutes.

Posted by: rhennigantx at October 16, 2018 07:54 AM (JFO2v)

644 But...it doesn't stop me from jumping to worst case scenario, which is what I do with pretty much everything in my life.
Posted by: TickledPink at October 16, 2018 06:40 AM (TL2pK)

It's great that you know this about yourself. I tend to do this too, and it was making me an anxious mess.

Now after I look at the worst case scenario, I tell myself ok, I've done my "risk assessment" , now it's time to act and stop worrying. "Let go and let God".

And if I find myself worrying about something I've already acted on, I tell myself it's too late to worry.
