The Saturday Night Joke

THE BIKER

A little girl was leaning into a lion's cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the collar of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, all under the eyes of her screaming parents.

A biker jumps off his Harley, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl and the biker brings the girl to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly. A reporter has watched the whole event.

The reporter addressing the Harley rider says, "Sir, this was the most gallant and bravest thing I've seen a man do in my whole life."

The Harley rider replies, "Why, it was nothing, really. The lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt right."

The reporter says, "Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a journalist, and tomorrow's paper will have this story on the front page.

So, what do you do for a living, and what political affiliation do you have?" The biker replies "I'm a U.S. Marine, a Republican and I voted for Trump". The journalist leaves.

The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on the front page:

** U.S. MARINE ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT & STEALS HIS LUNCH.

If Captain Biff Kristol had his way, Pastor Andrew Brunson would still be rotting away in Turkey. (Great NATO ally we have there.)

Freed American pastor Andrew Brunson met and prayed with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office Saturday, thanking him for having “really fought for us” — a day after his release from house arrest in Turkey.

Brunson, from North Carolina, arrived in the U.S. earlier Saturday after stopping in Germany on Friday.

Brunson was imprisoned in October 2016 due to his alleged ties to an outlawed group as part of a crackdown on a failed coup in Turkey against President Recep Erdogan’s government.

Vox, just like Chinese food will leave you hungry in 20 minutes.

When it first opened for business in 2014, the website Vox was hailed as the first website that would “explain” the news in an unbiased manner. Now it has been discovered that the site is heavily funded by the communist Chinese government.

The site was started by former Washington Post writer Ezra Klein. It was supposed to be the site that told the world just what was happening. Of course, all Klein’s writers are liberals. But now we find just how biased the site really may be.

These people are able to project their personal anger on a whole class of people who are (as far as she knows) innocent of any wrongdoing. So was Ted Bundy. She differs from him in degree but not in kind.

If you can rationalize blaming classes of people, anything goes. This is why we can't talk about "justice" on behalf of grievance groups. It's got to be kept at an individual level.

A small group of right-wing nationalists.

The media are frantically trying to use them to show that there is "right-wing violence", to try to distract from the real right-wing violence perpetuated by Antifa.

I guess Antifa breaking the car windows of a 74-year-old man in Portland, after the cops ceded the streets to Antifa, is not playing well in the hinterlands.

One slight problem with the claimed Proud Boys assaults in New York - the only people arrested were Antifa types, who assaulted and robbed a Trump supporter. This just shows that the NYPD is racist, of course.

144 I'd bet that the NY Proud Boys thing is exaggerated or even False Flag. DiBlasio and Cuomo were quite quick denouncing it.

The Left is wetting themselves in excitement over this alleged "right-wing violence".

We've had a number of demonstrations in Portland where the Proud Boys have legally gotten a permit to demonstrate (which Antifa never does, of course), and then Antifa then tries to attack the cops and Proud Boys, by throwing M-80's, rocks, and other things. The local left-wing media then blames the violence on the Proud Boys.

The one example of Proud Boy "violence" that they actually have on tape is that an Antifa-type tried to brain a Proud Boy twice with a collapsible baton. The Proud Boy then cold-cocked the Antifa-type.

The left edited the video to remove the attacks with the baton, leaving only the cold-cocking.

160 Shipping container has got to be one of the worst "starting points" for a build-out, period.

You'll lose a few inches on the interior sides, with insulation and sheetrock/paneling/whatever.

The "watertight" aspect of the container goes kablooey in all kinds of ways, with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, windows and doors, etc.

Bonus? It's all more difficult with a container, to effect durable, long term weatherproofing on all of those penetrations, as compared to conventional building materials n' methods.

Lastly. Every room in your house will have one dimension limited to not-quite 8 ft. wide or long.

Just buy an RV with ample slide-outs, and be done with it. Plus, a new RV comes with a warranty.

That said.... container for a bunk house or shelter at a deer lease? Great starting point, cause it lends itself to a basic, simple layout and coarse materials.

There are a few "stacked" container homes up in Houston. They LOOK great. Till you see the interior photos.... and that 8ft. dimension tells it's tale of woe.

I saw a beach house in Nicaragua that was made of two or three containers welded together, with a sort-of open center court. It was run down, and unoccupied, and rust had gotten to some of the lower outside walls. A couple of weeks with an arc welder and plasma cutter could have made it right again.

No "Se Vende" sign, and I never learned anything else about it. Right on a nice Pacific Ocean beach, just above the highwater mark, really. I may have photos, someplace.

176 Of all the repugnant, and stupid, and un-American (in the most damning sense), and depressing things of the last few years (which is saying something), the removal/defacing/destruction of historical monuments and markers I find the worst. It reflects a truly completely un-American, Third World, mob, tribal, authoritarian/ideological mindset.

The societies that have done this sort of thing, for the most part, were entering/experiencing a dark age of authoritarianism, extremism, hate, bigotry, ignorance, revenge, and other dark idiocies. The former Soviet/east-bloc countries removing most of their state-imposed symbols of oppression - images for the most part of mass murderers and tyrants - or the Iraqis, in the same boat - are a completely different story, of course.

America has ratcheted down a gigantic notch, in an area where it had nearly a unique heritage of reconciliation and maturity. Sickening.

That's just it. And once those interior walls are fully built-out.... you really don't wanna be coming behind 'em with a torch n' arc, lest you turn the whole damn thing into a horizontal roman candle.

And for half-burying one of 'em in a bank of earth?

Get REAL acquainted with Tremco or Sonnenborn commercial waterproofing products and processes. Get lots of disposable clothing, cause that stuff never comes off.

And price out the three drums of waterproofing you're gonna need, per container, (cause a thin coat won't work..think, 1/4" coat.... protection board and Styrofoam insulation.

$$$

I'd rather just build the forms, bend the rebar n' pour the concrete. So very much more flexibility in design, too.

At my range all the structures currently are made from 20-footers. RO shacks, storage. Navy has a 40-footer on the 100-yd range they often rent, packed with ...... ammo. Occasionally a crew will forget to lock it up. One can wander in, behold a lifetime's supply of 5.56 and 9mm ..... and then lock it up on the way out.

258 Speaking of statues, have an obscure question, maybe somebody with a twitter account can sent a private message to Byron York to ask: what is that statue in the photo he current uses on twitter? It's definitely an SMR soldier, presumably Red Army soldat, and a monument to the Great Patriotic War (WWII). The PPsh-41 in the statue is sort of a give-away. But I'm curious as to where that photo was taken.

Some years ago Sajak had a Sunday evening interview show on Fox News. It was an hour of pleasant, educated and witty conversation between Sajak and his guest. Of course the programming idiots for the network cancelled it after a few months.

Sajak is seriously underrated as a host and writer.

Actually he took over from the Directory and was followed by the recreated Bourbon Monarchy, that was followed by the 2nd Republic, Louise Napoleon III, and so on.

So the millions dead and overwhelming defeat seems a decent trade off from having incompetent grasping bureaucrats repeatedly drag the country to defeat through arrogance, cheapness and timidity.

When "European integration" was at its height, some French politicians asked when the English were going to change the name of the Waterloo tube station, since it was warlike and anti-European unity and all.

Some English wits responded that they would change it, right after the French changed the name of the Austerlitz metro station.

End of discussion.

299 Bander, have seen that statue. Not the only Fascist-era thing still standing - unmolested - in Rome. Every time I went through that one piazza - the one where Mussolini gave the famous, smirking address from the balcony of the building on one side - I thought of Il Duce. I think that's where the most comical version of the white-uniformed traffic cops standing on small pedestals, giving traffic directions that were completely ignored, also was.

Nothing funny about the Taliban era in America, though.

332 Berserker, I know it's SOP to mock French martial prowess, but just finished a book on Operation Torch, invasion of French North Africa in WWII.

Despite not feeling any particular hostility to Americans or America, the troops defending generally gave a very good account of themselves (we put big American flags on the British ships - carrying US troops - sent in to seize port facilities in Oran, as it was rightly expected the defenders would fight with vigor against UK forces).

The largest naval engagement of WWII in the Atlantic was the Battle of Casablanca. French naval forces made mistakes, as is normal in the fog of war, but fought fiercely, and with a bit of luck would have inflicted major damage on the US fleet there.

French had 1,300+ KIA, lost 6 ships/6 subs, inflicted over 1K KIA on US/UK forces (this was altogether, Casablanca/Algiers/Oran). One senior French commander - probably because he like many was pro-Allies - delayed sortie of the main French fleet from Toulon, which might have slaughtered one or more of the Algeria invasion fleets and made it a major Allied defeat.

Book I read didn't go in depth or explore it too much, but it certainly seems the case that all or most of the losses on both sides were avoidable - if a political arrangement had been worked out ahead of time. US counted on a mini-coup within French North African military command, which didn't really materialize.

343 Berserker, I know it's SOP to mock French martial prowess, but just finished a book on Operation Torch, invasion of French North Africa in WWII.

Winery called Kenneth Volk, east end of Santa Maria Valley, has some heirloom varietals they keep going. One is cabernet pfeffer - whose name sort of gives away the game. More black pepper than I've ever found in any zin. Pretty much screams "steak!! grilled beef!!!" at you when you open it.

Anyway, if you ever get up that way (and you should - from you that's about a 3 hour drive, max), check out Volk. Great thing about central coast - beyond Santa Barbara, most of the time ..... no crowds. SB seems to act as a filter, stops 90% of SoCal tourists. Get off the main roads, it's still like Sonoma in the 80s up there - quiet.

But since it was performed at 8 am, there's No Fucking Way ace was there watching. Unless a shelf fell and hit him in the haid.

433 Ive been checking out many container "homes". I have an acre of land I would like to build using them making 3-4 studio like apartments. While Scandinavia has been using them for buildings going on 3 decades, the US has no codes for their use making it almost impossible.

439 Vox, just like Chinese food will leave you hungry in 20 minutes.

Hmmm, I'm sure this is their very first attempt at influencing US media. Never happened before or since.

443 Regarding telemarketers, has anyone read Saki's short story "Mark"? It's far from his best, but in short it's about an author who finds himself dealing with a salesman trying to push a reference book. The salesman is so persistent, that Mark decides to turn the tables on him, trying to sell his novels.

Well, back when I worked for a newspaper (business, not reporting) I tried that approach. Though I wasn't in sales myself, I worked close enough to them that I'd heard our telemarketers' script. So I started to recite it.

It worked.

444 One more thing. I haven't given up trying to push the use of Vox as a verb. Specifically, as in "You really Voxxed that up" whenever someone gets something comically wrong.

They're like the written version of CNN.

445 417 A sentient photon doesn't experience space-time. An observer "sees" a photon in space-time; that is, time passes and distance is traveled. WTF?

Photons from the sun take 8 minutes to get to earth but could have been created thousands of years ago and finally escaping to the surface.

452 The topic for your TSNJ is apropo to today's msm. They treated Trump's speech about Generals Grant and Lee the same way. They made it look like Trump is pro-Confedaracy and ignored his build-up to Grant being the greater general by beating Lee.
