Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Sean Davis, Rush Limbaugh: Republicans Can Either Confirm Kavanaugh or Lose the Senate in NovemberI don't think Republicans want to hold either chamber of Congress; many Republicans prefer being like Ben Sasse, having no power whatsoever except to burble up baby-talk homilies that he can quote in fundraising letters. Having power is scary -- you are forced to make decisions that actually have consequences, and those consequences may involve the leftwing media saying mean things about you. So it's better to be a Controlled Opposition. They don't want actual power, which is a hard thing to have; they just want position, privilege, prestige and perks. Since these dirtbags, sell-outs, and corporate shills prefer being in the minority, I say vote to keep them in power to spite them. Make them squirm. Sean Davis says that either they vote to confirm Kavanaugh, or angry and/or dispirited conservatives will sit this election out:The rubber is about to meet the road for Senate Republicans. They have a simple choice: they can vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, thereby ending the baseless and unsubstantiated Democrat- and media-fueled smear campaign against him, or they can kiss House and Senate majorities goodbye for the next decade, if not longer. In case the election of one Donald J. Trump was not enough to compel the D.C. Republican establishment swamp creatures to wipe the muck from their eyes and see what's happening with their own constituents, Republican voters have had enough of feckless do-nothings whose careers consist of little more than not doing everything they promised to do.Rush Limbaugh has a similar take: Confirm Kavanaugh or Kiss the Mid-Terms Goodbye. Like I said, I don't think that's a threat. They want their phony-baloney jobs where all they do is take ineffectual votes against liberal agenda items which are guaranteed to pass and then campaign about how hrrdcore conservative their pointless play-acting voting is. And of course they want to collect checks from tech monopolies to permit them to continue to target and blacklist conservatives. I think a more effective threat would be to announce a pre-emptive boycott and legislative offensive against any business or industry these fucking corporate shills hire themselves out to after they're voted out of office. Let their would-be employers know we intend to take our anger against these cucks out on them, and that hiring them would actually cause them to lose money, lose government contracts, and lose legislative favors. Its probably overstating things to say that, but... yeah maybe so. Its not going to energize turnout, to say the least -- why vote for Republicans in congress if they can't even pull this off? What have they really done in the last two years? Tax cuts and a ton of stalling, stonewalling, and insulting Trump.

Ace is right; but I propose the pressure point should be GOP corporate donors.
All of them--doesn't matter if they're CoC or not--just if you support the GOP, and the GOP decides to let Kavanaugh swing, then you're all poison. It's too hard for people to keep track of who voted what, when, and who they're working for in six months. And by corporate donors, I would say it's far more important to look at individual influential donors and their corporate ties than giant corporations. You're on the board of SuperMart and a huge GOP donor? That's the target. Posted by: TexasDan at September 24, 2018 05:52 PM (yL25O) 27

I don't buy the "they want to lose" arguments. The GOP may want to lose policy battles that conservatives would like them to win, but they are not interested in being in the minority. Being in the minority requires many individual politicians to lose their seats; in general, no politician wants to lose his own seat.
Posted by: asymmetricalbear at September 24, 2018 05:53 PM (Rzmvi) 32
Similarly I think the GOP establishment is terrified of actually having anything like a conservative majority on the Supreme Court. How many times have they managed to "screw it up" over the last 30 years? I'm not buying it. Better in their minds to keep the rubes fired up over killing babies than to actually, maybe, slow down the slaughter and have to deal with the cat ladies in blood-stained pants at the next sit in.

People whose seats are at risk, however, certainly want to keep their jobs. But there really aren't any vulnerable GOP members that matter for this decision. Flake is retiring. People forget, McConnell helped draft the list of judges and Kavanaugh is one that the party elders were explicitly happy with prior to beginning this process. He's the type of guy that even the squishy GOPe actually support. There is 0% chance that the Dems will like his replacement nominee any more, and the GOPe know this. They would've been happy to fold if he was some sort of conservative bomb-thrower, but Kavanaugh is just a genuinely qualified and nice guy.
Even the GOPe realizes that not confirming him is the start of total war on nominees for everything. Seems to me that the dems shot their wad early. I don't think that the GOPe will cave on Kavanaugh, and that is almost literally the first thing that I haven't expected the GOP to cave on in a long time. If Flake wants to keep any of his GOP contacts from within the party after he goes to become a talking head, he can't afford to cross McConnell on this one. the flaccid response of emasculated Republicans
IOW, don't go soft on us, you useless. I disagree with the notion that most Republicans are the problem. Most are only there to preserve their jobs, and understand that failure at this juncture is likely fatal. It's not that they're real conservatives, it's that they're not interested in having to get a real job. I don't care about their motivation, as long as the vote correctly. However, as someone said on an earlier thread, we don't really have a majority in the Senate. We have a minority, with a few preening prisspots to placate. Damn them. But why is it scary? They have a mandate from the voters and they voters are by and large rejecting the media. They don't care that their country is going to shit, as long as the SHTF after they're gone. They would've been happy to fold if he was some sort of conservative bomb-thrower, but Kavanaugh is just a genuinely qualified and nice guy.
Even the GOPe realizes that not confirming him is the start of total war on nominees for everything. ------- I think the logic they're following is that they want to push the GOP left on a nominee, so pick on the moderate nominee. If you knock him out, and get the dickless Party to agree to a compromise candidate, it'll be another Sandra Day O'Connor. There's less to be gained from knocking down the inevitable hardliner to come next. If it doesn't work, it will have been a very bad bet, particularly if it makes attacking the next nominee much harder, which I think it would. But nobody has ever gone broke (so far) betting on the GOP to cower like a kicked dog. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at September 24, 2018 06:09 PM (AzW6q) 156
If I can do this without emBarrelling, I am going to quote me from twitter last night since I'm lazy:
The lesson that I, the average voter, am being Pavlovian trained is that the GOP can be given all the power it said it needed to do things, that one can be as connected as humanly possible to the levers of power, and that will STILL not be enough for the GOP to stand up for you The last week has proven that the Dems will engage in all out scorched earth tactics and the GOP will do nothing other than lie back, take it and please sir may I have another. The GOP is ostensibly in control of the Senate. If the GOP truly is, none of this should have occurred It is blindingly apparent that the supposed experts in politics and political commentary who believe they are ever so much better than a vulgarian such as myself have no concept that this isn't a game for the Dems. This is dead serious and they mean to rule with boot on my throat Kavanaugh is connected to the levers of GOP power on a remora level. And the GOP is sitting there doing not a single solitary thing, at least in public, to fight back against the most base and vile slurs against him. This is one of their own. And they won't swing back. If the GOP will not protect Kavanaugh from such brutality, why on earth should I believe the GOP will do a damn thing to stand up for me? Why won't they fight? Why do they clamp hands over eyes and over ears and LALALALA CONSPIRACY THEORY ON THE COLD CIVIL WAR LALALALA The inevitable oh it is troubling that Kavanaugh bragged about coaching his daughters' teams has started up with the not at all subtle in the least implication that he is a child molester and that's coming from Frank Rich. That's not fever swamps. That's mainstream. What is the reaction by the GOP? Is it furious rage and righteous indignation and have you no decency? No. No, it's capitulation and silence and utter pathetic lack of rage. Again, this is one of their own. And Our Betters in the GOP and the commentary class don't seem to care There is a sense of despair and fury and rage and a feeling of helplessness building up in what used to be the GOP base that is dangerous to see and I'm seeing it as I'm part of it. Desperate hopeless people do desperate, hopeless things. It has been ever so. Anyone out there who has the ability to grab Grassley et al and shake them and scream in their faces you are pouring kerosene on napalm and you must stop this, you must stop this now needs to do so. How many retired Navy Seals and Army Green Beret types would it take to effect an armed raid on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce offices?
Specifically, I mean, while said Chamber is in the midst of one of their Board Meetings, with all members and their staff in attendance. I'm thinking that a sufficiently pacified U.S. Chamber of Commerce might just remain quiet and lay low for a few years after such a visit. Quiet as the grave, laid six feet low, they don't tend to cause much of a ruckus thereafter. One given Senator or Congressman isn't really the problem at hand. The solution, Mitch, is to mercilessly pound the Democrats with policy. Get your ass in gear. Coordinate with the House and Trump and get three pieces of legislation popular to GOP on the table -- NOW. Let's do (1) National conceal carry reciprocity, (2) something do torpedo Dems' money advantage (Union reform?), and (3) something to torpedo Dems' deep state implants throughout government (revise Civil Service Code).
Fight. Back. Escalate the war. Make clear that GOP response to these tactics will be a unified push to pass legislation Dems won't like. On the fast-track. Do it. Do it now. Do it yesterday. The Dems MUST pay a price for this. Or, just like IRS scandal, Deep State Trump Investigation, etc., etc., the Dems will correctly conclude there is nothing but upside for their outrageous behavior. Why wouldn't they? If doing X only advances the ball for your side, of COURSE they'll keep doing what works. Posted by: RichardWindsor at September 24, 2018 06:13 PM (db5dt) 181

People who are not aware of Globalism, Establishment, Deep State, Soros, Shadow Govt. (Obama, Holder, Kerry, et.al.), Jordan Peterson's Evil Trinity Teachings, Islamic Goals, EU goals, Technology Oligarchs censorship/Social Engineering activities, Media Propoganda, etc., and how they all intersect, have no idea what is going on right now. That would be most people. I do not blame them.
So for people do know what is happening, I hope they are actively doing something. Knowledge is power only if you act on it. Otherwise, it is useless. The U.S. is ground zero in this battle. Some of it is Dems vs. Republicans, yes...but it is just one piece of the puzzle. You are either in the battle right now making calls and doing your part, or you are not. The war is not in the future. It is now. By the time it gets to actual bloodshed, we have lost. We don't have the numbers to win. Especially bcz outside forces will inrervene, as they are doing now. PA has a lenghty statute of limitations for sex crimes. The clever thing was using an exception to evidence rules to allow other victims to testify about a similar pattern of behavior. Many of these other crimes were outside PA and time barred. Having more than one victim addressed he said she said and made it a kind of criminal class action

Alyssa Milano claims she was molested as a kid and then later in life and yells at... Donald Trump. Because he said Ford should have said something earlier if it was so traumatic.
Well dumb thing to say by Trump, people keep things like that to themselves a lot. What they DO NOT do is forget about it and then suddenly remember when an election year comes up. And Alyssa, if you were attacked as a girl and then later... go after the people who did it, not the president. He didn't do it. Name names, get specific, tell dates, make them pay. Don't throw a wingding at a politician, go after the people who mistreated you. Because if you don't... people get the impression you didn't mind so much and are just bringing it up to attack your perceived enemies with. I mean if producer #6 reached up your skirt when you were shooting Commando, but you kept your mouth shut so you could get another job, that kind of lessens the moral outrage a bit. The Republican Deep Establishment don't want to be a Controlled Opposition Party, much less a "real" Opposition Party, they want to be a Pseudo-Opposition Party. It's much less work, and the goodies are the same. Republicans do not deserve to be rewarded with continued power, but the Democrats are so reprehensible and insane they cannot be allowed power. So we're in a position where we have to yet again reluctantly support the very people who hate us most.

I really like ace's last suggestion. That, as conservatives, we make a point to track the cucks who the base-voters send packing from public office. And then, when they try to parley their prior careers into lobby-money or prestige-money: we declare that we will intentionally not buy those products/services. Moreover, that we will run the name jof such brands into the ground by word of mouth. Eventually, that might get the attention of GOPe swamp creatures who dream of wealth and career beyond Washington D.C. She was holding up traffic The Judge asked her "Was it your intention to take nap while in the middle of traffic?" I laughed so loudly people turned back to look at me, and my son who was sitting in the front awaiting his appearance before the judge turned back and glared at me. The worst that will happen is a bunch of rainbow-haired women in pussy hats show up at their offices and town hall meetings.
And ultimately, I think that's what it all comes down to: there's no cost for the GOP to vote to confirm, and they like him. Hell a year ago, even guys like Schumer were praising Kavanaugh for being such a great judge. If things flip, and I don't think they will, the Resistance crowd will be in full wrecking mode. There will be more insane legislation voted on and vetoed by PDT than ever seen. Well that, and he's using scientific and psychological terms to describe the significance of morality and traditional values, which is the song that young people understand. Granted his arguments are incredibly limited and sometimes weak but they resonate with the "I f'n love science" generation where true moral arguments from objective absolute standards and religion would not. Hmmm.
Some misplaced drama here, and a few other things. No GOPers are feeling any pressure to vote no on Kav. Davis' warning is not only "duh" - obvious, doesn't even need to be said - but it addresses a non-problem. Plus, the pretty dubious "they don't want to win, they prefer the minority" stuff. Dubious because they like the majority. Substantial difference being in the majority. But in the Senate, there is no conflict between staying in majority + winning elections and *not* pursuing a "conservative" agenda, or Trump's agenda. They have been doing both. And they are about to win another election. Because voters - not Soros, not space aliens, not the Franklin School, not "RINOS" - make that happen. Largely because voters are trapped - so long as there are not lots of lively primaries with real choices, GOP is a no-brainer block to having the Dems in power. Kav will be confirmed, GOP will win in November, and ..... this will tell us little about the fate of Trump's agenda/the minimal common sense agenda. As the GOP has barely changed (Corker and Flake represent possible pick-ups), Trump may have to wait til 2021 to move on some his most important items. Posted by: AlaBAMA at September 24, 2018 06:44 PM (pUDQf) --- That could work if he has the balls to make it about his colleague's alleged "concern" over victims of attacks. Asking Ford about that in such a televised forum would do more to disgrace the Dems than they could otherwise. If you make it about the Dems' overblown concern--while admitting that what may have happened to Ford is disgraceful and shouldn't have happened--you can still do the damage where it has the best effect. To point out how the Senators have made this into a fiasco--independent of Ford's story being true or not. But to put the face of Ellison's victims right there on TV would be something. Or, tell said relatives they will be thrown out if they say A SINGLE WORD anti-Trump or anti-conservative values. Grassley's problem is no longer Ford. Now it's these other accusers. None of their accusations is any "less valid" than Ford's, because Ford's is bat-shit crazy. 36 yrs stale, she can't articulate any relevant facts, everyone named denies it happened, except her, and she has all of the far-left bonafides down to the associations with liberal activists. Literally, a "she said" with nothing to back it up, and decades old to boot.
What does this have in common with the new 1st year Yale accusation or the "rape train" allegations? Everything. To a tee. Grassley gave Ford the time of day, on what grounds is he now going to deny a "fair and open hearing" of these new allegations? Grassley completely fucked himself, Trump and all of us. Ultimately all these fake accusations and lies against Kavanaugh are just an alternate form of filibuster. Each one that shows up and takes a few days demanding to have a hearing, then delaying the hearing over and over pushes the vote back. Its the same thing as a filibuster, but even more effective, since it doesn't require congressmen to actually DO anything, and it lasts even longer than a real filibuster.

Back in the pre-pill days (of my late teens) girls were scared silly of getting pregnant (although few managed to do just that).
And there were girls "saving it for marriage"---quite a few of them. There was a lesser number of guys who also wanted to wait until they got married. Most of my sexual activity in my mid and late teens was initiated by the girl--they were more mature than I was. But basically whatever they were putting out by way of foreplay I was taking--but the limits were set by them and abided by me. I didn't think I'd get married before my late 20s (as my father had done) so I was not interested in and did not engage in "heavy duty relationships". I did date a lot of different girls. When I finally did lose my virginity at age 20, the person who initiated it was the young woman. She was and had been quite sexually active beforehand. So I can believe Kavanaugh's claim to have been a virgin through high school and college. That doesn't mean that he might not have done a whole bunch of back seat wrestling with a variety of consenting young women. The early 80s were different from the late 50s and early 60's on the sexual front lines. Posted by: Comanche Voter at September 24, 2018 07:00 PM (Sda6L) 469

This comment will get willowed, but... I fear that if we as conservatives REALLY want to get our points across and start punishing libs for their hatefulness, we have to get really down, dirty and personal. You have loved ones you invite to Thanksgiving dinner every year? This year they're not invited. They can get their fucking fill from the DNC HQ. Oh they're not open T-Day? Tough shit. Or, tell said relatives they will be thrown out if they say A SINGLE WORD anti-Trump or anti-conservative values. Then back it up by actually doing it, AND humiliating them in the process, a gun in their face when they test you. Make it clear your home is NOT a 'free speech zone' unless they are EXTREMELY thoughtful and polite (which libs never are). Harsh medicine, but it's for curing (or eliminating) tough assholes. 460 Grassley's problem is no longer Ford.
His only exit ramp is to now change course on the new accusations. Unbelievable. Posted by: RichardWindsor at September 24, 2018 06:59 PM (db5dt) I'm not sure how this will play out. The more accusers, the more likely that one of them will be shown to be a liar, which casts doubt on ALL of them. Also, having a whole series of accusers come out of the woodwork starts getting ridiculous, rather like the Salem witchcraft craze, which ultimately collapsed when the accusations became outrageous and obviously false. Well to be fair, the only parts of that movie that were historically accurate were:
1. There was, in fact, a guy named William Wallace and 2. There are, in fact, two countries called 'Scotland' and 'England'. There was, in fact a Battle of Hastings and it did involve spears too. As for K asserting he was a virgin, I believe him. He is scary smart and he is probably one of those people who could see his future like a road map. He probably thought that being chaste was a safe state of being during the years he was getting his education and settling himself up to have a stellar legal career. He also has a servants heart, with his legal acumen, he could be a Senior Partner at almost any top law firm billing out at at least $1000 per hour, but, instead, he gives his abilities to serving the high courts rather than exploiting them.

Tom Trinko at American Thinker has a good take on some very good reasons why Keyser *should* have remembered the party.
--- [T]here are three options about how Ford and Keyser interacted after the alleged assault: 1. Keyser encountered Ford locked in the bathroom and very upset. 2. Keyser encountered a very upset Ford as she left. 3. Keyser discovered that Ford had left after the fact. Every one of these options involves memorable events, which would give Keyser a strong memory of the party. --- http://tinyurl.com/y8yf3g4s I think those cases are pretty sound. All the parties I was at as a young wastoid--not even as emotional as a girl--I would have remembered a buddy cutting out on me without a word.
