My second wife was the female version of that guy, without the 30.06. I managed the divorce quietly and from a distance. Two time zones. The IRS was okay with their settlement because we didn't have that much.

Back in my oilfield days, one of my favorite guys to work with was "Doc", a black guy who had played outside linebacker for the 49'ers for a year before his knee tore up. Doc had biceps the size of my thighs, he was a good guy to have as a friend. We went to an all you can eat crab leg buffet in Carthage, Texas once (the town that Bernie was from) with a more ordinary sized guy, Fred. Fred was nice, and naive. We all had our first plates, and Fred said "well aren't we going?" and me and Doc laughed and said "boy, we was just limbering up" and we sat there for about 3 hours, me and doc scarfing up plates of crab legs whenever they brought new ones out with Fred watching us going "don't you guys ever quit???"
and finally the Chinese lady who ran the place (there's always a chinese lady that runs these places) came out and said "That Enough! You Got to Go!!!" and we said "but your sign said all you can eat for $10!!!" and she said "Yeah! Dat all you can eat for $10, you Go now!!!" and well we figured it was about time, so we did. and all the way home Fred was just talking to himself, "I can't believe you guys."

And then you would just let these automated scoops chug around slowly by themselves, eating all the plastic and slowly eliminating out.
but that's only if you seriously wanted to deal with the problem.

And furthermore, why shouldn't they? Quite brilliant, really. Africans mostly cannot use liquid or gaseous cooking fuels, because they don't have the proper appliances to burn them. But they all can manage burning charcoal, or shit (literally shit). Briquets made of waste plastic would be a cleaner burning fuel than either charcoal or dung, and have more heat value. Just keep PVC out of the mix, because, phosgene.

His radio show was one of the most underappreciated shows ever in the history of radio and perhaps all of radio and television included. I used to call in all the time and talk to him. I got a Bathroom Sessions bathrobe from 2008ish that I still use today. I can't believe moar people didn't listen and call in. He absolutely loved talking to his callers from across the country (or touch Indians as he called it).
I miss that show. It was fun times in a crazy effed up world.

I've actually eaten in places where they cook with dung. In most of Tibet, it's the only fuel available and they stack it in huge towers in the summer so they'll have a supply in the winter.
I don't know what effect it has on the food if the food already tastes like shit.

I think these devices are based upon a false premise: that there are huge patches of ocean where plastic waste is so thick that one piece touches others on all sides. I don't think it works that way. Want to prove me wrong? Put me on a ship, and let's visit these "huge floating islands" of trash. At least I might get some deep-sea fishing in.

What usually happens is that a someone gets an job offer to do engineering, programming, whatever, and pays a huge bribe and a fee to various people who get them some sort of passage to the US.
They show up, planning to pay off the money invested by the promised salary quickly and send money home to the family that now is short of a wage earner.
Instead they wind up as a dishwasher, a framer, a waiter, or whatever, at a minimum wage job that pretty much only pays the interest on that huge loan they had to raise to pay off the "contractors" and they may have to pay for their rent, their food and whatever on top of that to the contractor, so they go into debt and go deeper. And the families back home suffer too.
And if they have legal papers the "contractor" holds there papers so they don't get away.
This is the sort of abuse the Migrant and Seasonal Protection Act was supposed to end. But that only affects agricultural workers, not industrial serfs.

One year, she signed up for a trip with several of her Sun City friends to go to Lake Louis and Banff and several other sites. Well the 2nd day of the tour, she tripped coming off the bus, and went head first onto the pavement, and sprained her ankle, and broke her elbow, and gave herself a concussion - she was right at 80 years old. BUT with all that, she picked herself up, and forced her way through the rest of the week long trip, and by God she had paid for that trip and she wasn't going to let a couple measly broken bones mess that up for her.
She was hard to get along with, but she was one tough old broad. I kind of take after her, I think.

Yes. You have to remember it's not really the president or even the media, to a great extent. It's just pack mentality.
Get them out with a group of people that support the President and have drinks and do something fun and just talk about the President in a positive light amongst yourselves.
They are weak-willed. In order to fit in and keep doing the fun stuff with the group, they will have to play along. Invite them out to do something again and again with the same group of friends and eventually they will want to identify more with real-life people having fun than to identify with either Facebook friends or the weird people that can't tell a bull from a cow that just sit around looking trendy and drinking overpriced coffee.
You have to re-normalize them.
Unless they just don't mean that much to you. In that case, study and identify their weak points in preperation for the burning times.

I may have seen brief excerpts from his show. The other trouble with TV, and with video in general, is that it is TOO DAMNED SLOW of a way to impart information. I can read text on-screen waaay faster than some talking head on TV can bleat it at me, and I can also comprehend it better. And go back, and re-read, if something is unclear.
And it only gets worse when you factor in all the non-information, disinformation, and simple abuse that constitutes most ads these days.

TV with the sound off is only half as stupid, so there's that.
I work in the oilpatch, and it is appallingly common to go to the other end of the shack, and whoever is working there fucking always has the TV on. And it is a terrible distraction. If the TV sound is off, I can ignore it. If the sound is on, it's like a car wreck, I have to look. I will play music while I work, but usually blues or big band swing.
I have come to truly hate TV as a destructive force in our culture. Before, I was just bored with it. Last time I turned on my own TV, and watched an over-the-air broadcast was 9/11. And a few years later, I felled the antenna pole, and left the mute TV on the credenza. Then, later, I parted it out. Had some good tubes and transformers in it, you know.

I have these long podcasts with Russ Roberts or Jordan Peterson EG. They talk about topics that are asperational or important to my future life satisfaction. Politics is crude and petty comparatively.
