All Hands to the Lido Deck, All Hands to the Lido Deck
🚢 🚢 🚢

This is a tweet-heavy post so I put them under the jump to keep the CPU demand of the front page lower.

Bill Kristol retweeted this:

Note this is just snark; it's not a denial by Kristol. It's an implied denial, without any actual denial.

Now, as I've said, I don't really think it's sinister that the anti-Trump Kristol would get the anti-Trump dossier. But why is he being so... sneaky about it, as usual?

The wicked fleeth when no man pursueth, as the Bible says. There's no harm in just admitting he read the "Steele" dossier ("Steele" in quotes because I doubt he actually wrote most of it). Unless... he feels a bit of guilt about something else.

Like his magazine's apparent phobia about mentioning "Fusion GPS", maybe? Maybe he feels that there is some... how would you put it.. possible kompromat weighing on him?

Jordan Shachtel dug up this July 23, 2016 tweet from Kristol, noting that he's "read up" on the alleged "Putin-Trump" collusion.

Again: why not just say yes or no? Why is everything about this alleged brave warrior this gutless sneaky-shit?

You'd have to have a heart of stone not to laugh at these two tweets. Despite the Beltway Swabbies desperately trying to re-brand themselves as Centrist Slate, and hoping to ingratiate themselves with the leftist media they hope to soon join, the leftist political/media class keeps kicking them to the curb like they were Kevin D. Williamson peddling an anti-abortion column.

Attempt to find polite common ground: Rejected.

Attempt to find polite common ground: Rejected.

Oh, dear, guys: They may hate you slightly less than they hate the Deplorables, but they hate you too.

One day you'll wake up to that reality.

I know you want to join their club: But they're not going to let you, fellas.

No matter how much you signal that you're not like those other, deplorable conservatives, you're still (I can't believe I'm saying this) too conservative for them.

They have thousands of lifelong liberals to hire and befriend. Why would they pick some desperate Johnny-Come-Latelies?

47 Posted on the last thread I knew I'd get nooded:

For those thinking about leaving the RC, this sounds like a test. I'm an agnostic on my best day, but I've read a thing or two about a thing or two on Christianity and this sounds like you're having your faith tested. Maybe not as dramatic as taking your kid to the mountain top for a sacrifice, but you get the idea.

Don't lose your faith over this. Do what you gotta do, but don't lose your faith.

The Church has always had problems like this, too. Back in the 1990s I wrote a history paper on a local parish and they let me go into the Catholic archives to do my research. I found a letter from a priest who was in a rehab in Canada because of his drinking. Really heartbreaking stuff. This was around the time of the Great War. I found another account of a local priest who got into an automobile accident in the 1920s. He was drunk and there was a known prostitute in his car. The account didn't come out and say it, but it was a very touchy situation as you can imagine.

All of that happened one hundred years ago. The RC is like any other human institution in that it's fallible because it's made up of humans. The Church will survive this. It's survived very bad things before.

71 I guess the question is does Kristol truly believe in the dossier, or does he hate what Trump stands for because it makes his pseudo-conservative views from The Weekly Standard just so much stale bread?

I think that part of these guys really believe that Trump is this twisted figure, sympathetic to Putin and the supporting Russian Oligarchs, and has an angle to make money on this.

But the evidence to the contrary are the MANY public actions that the Trump Administration has done that are quite decidedly hostile to Putin and Russia.

And in public, what is Trump supposed to do with Putin? Spit on him? Slap him?
Trump, as the American President still finds it incumbent on him to make a kind of peace rather than foment war with Russia.
Hillary Clinton, in all her argle-bargle and conflicting jaundiced double talk, has actually been quite friendly to Russia (as was Obama), yet, here we are.

The Uranium One case has not penetrated the thick and cloudy cerebral cortex of most of the American people, and probably never will. It is a piece of news that is not going to be promoted by the mainstream milksops.

So in the end, McRaven, Bill Kristol, George Will, Jeff Flake and the rest of the nevertrumpers, are out there because of....."muh principles!" (tm) and trying their best to persuade us stupid rubes they are right and we can't believe our own lying eyes.

In all fairness, Ace, there IS a market in the media world for the "respected Republican consultant" or "well-known conservative" who will bash Trump or the Freedom Caucus or the Tea Party or any anti-Left entity perceived to be serious.

Now, the market is not unlimited. You have to squeeze these mini-McCains into a full schedule of left-wing nuts craving a megaphone.

And in most cases there's a sell-by date. I mean, you can keep calling someone like Ann Navarro a "republican" all you want but, after a couple of years of her parroting the Left, the label loses its punch even with the idiots.

But still, there's a market, especially for a rich man like Kristol who craves attention more than anything else.

I have seen absolutely no one make a good case for why he should be allowed to keep it.

I heard that! As a one-time IRS employee with some minimal clearance, should I be able to go back to the office and look up taxpayer files so I can converse with a supervisor about handling them? Yeah, I don't think any of you would agree. Don't hold the job, don't get or retain the clearance.

Spirochetes. I like that word. It's a fine word.

It implies 'For Unnatural Coital Knowledge'. An acronym I'm relatively unfamiliar with.

They aren't just arguing semantics - the Definition of Reasonable Doubt is the most crucial distinction of this entire trial. Conviction or Acquittal hangs on that one thing more than on anything else.

Grant shows up looking like he's been sleeping in his uniform since the war started and proceeds to kick ass and get results.

288 103 MANAFORT JURY ASKS JUDGE TO REDEFINE `REASONABLE DOUBT'

The lefts heads are exploding on twitter, lol.
Posted by: wrg500 Manatee bounty hunter at August 16, 2018 05:27 PM (Bdeb0)

I sat on a capital case court martial and for me reasonable doubt meant "is there another explanation for the for the outcome of the crime involving the defendant that could be believed or did the prosecution nail down the explanation that the defendant indeed did all of the elements of the charges."

Mueller did not prove the elements of mea culpa or mens rea.

Did Manafort do these things he is charged with?

Is it possible Gates did this stuff on his own?

Was everything done with Manafort's intent (malice aforthought)?

Is the prosecution of Manafort justice or is it the prosecutors vendetta? (Does Mueller want justice or does he want a conviction?)

Is Mueller impartial towards getting justice or is he trying to get something with a conviction?

In the court martial we found the defendant Not Guilty of 1st Degree, but Guilty of second degree and assault and battery. Because the prosecution did not prove the case for first degree as defined by law.

Throughout the presentation of evidence I kept my mind open to the diametrically opposed outcomes. In the deliberation the jury opened the box to find the state of Schrodinger's cat.

We worked to give the defendant the benefit of the doubt, but in the deliberation the only doubt we could find was the prosecution's case for first degree as opposed to second degree.

People who continue to bitch and moan how long this is taking don't seem to grasp the size of this conspiracy. Every time one layer is peeled back two more are exposed.

I keep saying this but this is by far the biggest political scandal in US history.

Posted by: JackStraw at August 16, 2018 05:28 PM (/tuJf)

Jack-

This is big but it still finite. There's going to be a point where the people involved in whatever bureaucracy were doing their bureaucratic jobs of folding spindling and mutilating paperwork.

It's the gatekeepers and generators of the paperwork that understand what they were doing was wrong and self serving that will be looking at some kind of judgement. And among those there will be some who will try to make it right (like Lisa Page), some will be missed because they are smaller fish when the net tries to catch the bigger fish.

A lot of these folks have known and worked with each other for years. They are husbands and wives, brothers and sister, parents and children.

The connections are good for keeping the secret until the secret is out. Then the connections lead to suspicion, and suspicion to investigation.

And investigation to conviction in Jeff Session's Law and Order DOJ.

Also these crimes are connected to the crime of conspiracy, which has no statute of limitations.
