A former East Bay college philosophy professor who was charged with four counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon, causing great bodily injury, has taken a deal resulting in three years of probation for an attack at a Berkeley protest last year, court records reveal. ... According to Alameda County Superior Court records, Clanton entered a "no contest" plea Wednesday to one misdemeanor battery charge. The felony charges against him were dismissed, and an allegation that he had caused serious bodily injury was stricken. A misdemeanor charge that Clanton wore a mask during the commission of the crime also was dropped. ... Police said, previously, that Clanton attacked at least three people with a metal U-lock during the April 15 rally in and around Civic Center Park. Court papers later revealed that Clanton struck at least seven people in the head, according to authorities. One person received a head laceration that required five staples to fix. Another was uninjured but had a piece of a helmet broken off. A third was struck across the neck and back, police wrote.The police found a ton of evidence which inarguably proved he was the assailant -- and yet California prosecutors decided to gently slap (tap?) him on the wrist. Video of the one videotaped assault below. It happens in the first 30 seconds.

I'm not a law-talking guy but I don't see how SYG would apply in that case. Hitting someone in the head with a club is a felony assault that could easily end in death. After you're struck, even in duty to retreat states, the deadly assault has already taken place. I don't believe you're required to attempt to flee AFTER the assault.
That said, if THEY flee, the law varies. Here in WA, you're allowed to fire on a person who committed a felony and is attempting to escape. Though, I would not personally test the law at that time.

Deprive them of their anonymity. There was a youtube video some time back where (somewhere in the South) cops were making Antifa remove their masks, or turning them away from the protest location. (Enforcing an old anti-KKK law. #Irony) They turned back like the cowards they are.
Unmasking or broadcasting identities in advance would emasculate these people very quickly.
Figuring out how to do that is tricky, but the Berkeley police posting the identities of a couple dozen of these criminals is a good start!

When it first came out he was a Perfessor, the school tried to claim he never even worked there. Some people had screenshots showing he was on their faculty. The school backpedaled a bit and said he's not working here any more.
