"So President Trump has said he is considering revoking the security clearances of a few former Obama admininstration officials and now the Democrats and their media allies are running around with their hair on fire because this is somehow new or unprecedented. And then it comes out that the security clearances of elected officials or government employees are routinely *not* revoked after they leave their government jobs. At this point, normal Americans are asking why, what do they need them for? The answers are not encouraging. The first is that they would need their clearances if the next administration needed to tap their expertise. Really? Successive administations don't bring in their own experts? The next answer is even better, it is because they wouldn't be able to find jobs in their fields of expertise without one. Yes, somebody actually said this. Which was precisely the reason Sarah Sanders gave for the proposed revocations. I actually think there's an unstated reason, and that is the named individuals (Clapper, Brennan, Comey, and McCabe) are actively leaking classified information to the press as a part of an ongoing effort to sabotage and undermine Donald Trump. Now *that* is unprecedented. I don't think that's ever happened in our history, that is, holdovers from one administration going to war against the next one. Naturally, the president wants it stopped. NeverTrumpers like David French and that runty little Shapiro kid need to stop kidding themselves that there isn't an all out war going on right now, and if the progressive guerillas succeed in taking down Trump, then there isn't any TruCon™ candidate they could ever imagine who could survive the next onslaught. And what a horrible thing to have to contemplate: Trump is ousted, we've pretty much lost the silent war and that the only thing standing in between us and a progressive totalitarian regime is Evan McMullin."

7/24-Hrothgar's sister-in-law is home now. She is elderly, weak, and slow to recover. Hrothgar is staying near her but has to leave to attend to his own health concerns.
7/24-Aelfheld's friend who has congestive heart failure is in rehabilitation. Aelfheld appreciates the prayers given , is grateful for continued prayers for healing and strengthening.
7/24-Lurker Phineas will start 8 weeks of targeted radiation therapy shortly. Is participant for additional hormone therapy (doesn't know if he's getting a placebo or not). Please pray for his healing and that he be able to have additional time with his grand-babies.
7/24-Kemp reports that after 3 months his grandchildren are home from NICU (Thanks be to God), but will need continuing prayers for strengthening and healing as it's "a long road." He thanks people for their prayers.
7/24-Naughty Pine got biopsy results. Doesn't have cancer, but needs prayer for healing of infection site. She thanks people for their prayers.
7/24- ***Critical situtation*** Calm Mentor lost driving job with Uber because of insurance regulation changes because he walks with a cane and lacks some strength in his arm. I went
to the bank yesterday, parked my car, and was walking across the small
parking lot to enter the building. Someone was backing out of the space
right in front of the door (normal space, not handicapped space). This
person backs out about one car length, turning so that they could then
go forward and away (from my right to left as I'm waiting and watching).

Suddenly this person stops, half pulled out, and at an angle,
and sits there. I'm waiting, because this person is directly between me
and the front door, and I don't know which way this person is going.
After about 30 seconds (it might have been 10s, but it seemed to be a
long time), the driver slowly goes forward, barely missing the car
parked alongside, and drives away.
It was an asian-looking woman.

I mentally shook my head and thought, "Well, there's another reinforcement to a number of stereotypes."

I was happily gobsmacked to see American flags flying *everywhere.* The people absolutely love America and our soldiers who fought and died there. I had tears in my eyes (and Zimmern wiped a few from his eyes).

The 142nd Artillery Brigade was one of the very few National Guard combat units to get into the fight during Desert Storm. The fired along with the rest of the Artillery in the VII Corps as we crossed the berm and headed north. A lot of their missions were in support of the 1st Brit Armored Division.

110 67. That is not the case. Just because you have TS clearance doesn't entitle you to read anything that is TS or below. You have to have a need to know. So federal employees with clearances only read what they are authorized to read. The problem is security clearances given to administration officials who do not go through background investigations, and that is virtually all political appointees. Those clearances should and have been revoked as soon as there has been a change of administration. This is the first I have heard of former officials retaining a clearance without continued background investigations. It is highly irregular and shows me that there was a lot more stuff going on in the previous administration that was illegal and a violation of security than I even imagined.

As others have pointed out, not true.

However, it does raise the interesting point that TS information is partitioned by various means (and Secret a lesser extent) to limit access to those with a 'need to know'.

Why does any retired government official have a 'need to know'? You can quibble about taking away the 'clearance', but more important is eliminating access. That should end immediately upon leaving the government. If the government needs to call on them as advisors, they can be granted access to read the materials relevant to the subject AT THAT TIME.

I don't really know how prayers for the dead fit into my theology, but it doesn't seem important at the moment. And I write because writing is a way to mourn a friend when there are no good ways to do it.

Requiem for a Friend

Charlie was a poor black guy that I've known for about 25 years now. He was a friend, but I can't really say he was a "good" friend, because at times he could be quite the bad friend. There were days when he would piss me off just as much as he would help me, and he was the kind of guy who was always angling for something, always looking for a little extra, always coming up with a scheme or two. Of course, they never worked. He would work for me on and off and do odd jobs - sometimes he'd help me fix a fence, sometimes I needed him to help dig up bushes and move them around the yards, he helped me pack up and move an entire house once or twice. Sometimes he would disappear for a while, and I'd find out he'd been in jail for driving without insurance, or something stupid like that. Then he'd get out and need some money and I'd hire him to do some work here and there, to help him out. But he always had a laugh and a smile, he always told a great story, and he was just fun to be around. Sometimes he would take stuff that wasn't his - but then he'd just give away everything that was his. He was funny that way, possessions just didn't mean much to him. Even when I would get fed up enough to tell him I didn't want him coming around asking for work any more, I'd eventually forgive him and find something for him to do when he needed it.

Over the years I helped him more than I should have, gave him more than I should have, and probably forgave him more than I should have. I can't really give a reason why, other than in spite of all of the stupid shit he could do, I liked him, meaning that I enjoyed his company, and he actually enjoyed mine. We were the oddest of odd couples - people would criticize me for using him for small jobs and keeping him around, since he had a record, and his friends and relatives would criticize him for spending time hanging around a white guy like me. But neither of us ever really cared about that stuff. For all the unlikeliness of it, we had our own kind of bond, and nobody else really needed to know why it worked.

2 nights ago he was shot dead for no real reason at all, other than he never could keep himself from getting involved with bad people. (oh, how we tried to warn him!) There was no fight; some guy who had a grudge against him just walked up to him and shot him. There's been many a time when I thought that I wouldn't miss him if he was gone, especially after he had done something particularly stupid; but I was wrong. I make no excuses for his bad behavior, such as it was, and I make no apologies for mourning him. I can only leave him to God, and of any prayer I would say, it would be this:

Pie Jesu, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem, sempiternum.

The arrangement became something of a "right of passage" for outgoing officials... they'd be able to keep their clearance and leverage it for future administrations. Seems noble enough.

The Clintons changed the dynamics of this arrangement. They leveraged their clearances to make money and take down rivals. The Bushes were to stupid (or noble if you're so inclined) to follow in the Clinton's footprints. Obama took this to the 11th degree. Weaponized does not even come close to what that turd of misery has done to the processes.

What "should" be done is a blanket policy that strips ALL outgoing administration officials of their clearance. If their thoughts on something of import are needed they can apply to get a new one. I'd wager most couldn't get one now based on their past actions.

There is really no point to that and would only clog the system. It takes so long to get a security clearance as it is. When they leave their access is stripped anyway. And if you do something wrong, the mechanism is already in place to suspend or revoke your clearance. It just has to be enforced. No need to clog the system with new bullshit laws, just enforce those already on the books.

There is really no point to that and would only clog the system. It
takes so long to get a security clearance as it is. When they leave
their access is stripped anyway. And if you do something wrong, the
mechanism is already in place to suspend or revoke your clearance. It
just has to be enforced. No need to clog the system with new bullshit
laws, just enforce those already on the books.

I'm a Yankees fan who is amazed at what the Sox have done --so far.
But I do think that both teams are due for a letdown--a long losing streak--real soon. The Sox in particular are in danger of peaking too soon.

There have been many religious leaders who have infiltrated formerly conservative denominations (Russell Moore comes to mind) who have argued for immigration because "the Mexicans are SoCons! They'll vote Republican! Swearsies!" and they try to flip members with these stupid, baseless arguments, or at least put them into a state of inaction.

Members in these denominations need to distinguish between when a leader is speaking on a theological matter, or is going outside their expertise, a la Pope Francis. I don't know if these leaders are being bribed by the CoC or not, but they should not be trusted blindly, no matter how high up on the leadership totem pole they are.

I think this read on Shapiro is wrong. He's not trying to get the left to like him. Shapiro goes to college campuses to argue with lefties all the time, even when his personal safety is threatened.

My read on Shapiro is that he's a weird mix of fairly solid conservative principles that too often get thrown overboard for personal taste reasons.

He seems to see Trump as a whirling madman that is unpredictable and distasteful and will burn the right if we pin our hopes on him simply because he is so unpredictable and doesn't act like he is solidly based on conservatism.

Shapiro does come around slowly when Trump does conservative things, but then when Trump goes against conservative orthodoxy (tariffs for example), Shapiro goes roaring back to his "I hate Trump" cheerleading.

I personally think Shapiro misses way too much of the very conservative governance Trump is actually doing. He puts WAY too much weight on the social aspect of Trump's words and personal life.

But still, I think it's unfair to say Shapiro is doing it to please the left or to get a talk show.
