It's a hypothesis but the idea is that it's renewing due to hydrocarbon pools buried deep in the earth.
I've not researched it at length but I believe the idea goes that the earth's rotation and internal pressures convert these hydrocarbons into oil and push them up to the surface.

This is Alaska 101.
We have fewer people living here than we had 6 years ago, by a fairly large margin. Folks come in on the oil wave, and then leave when it gets tough again.
Now, we have another military build up, so some folks are back. I know that's how I got my new job (start in August), and that the cost of construction jumped about 25% in Anchorage because everything is going up north to Greely, Eielson and Clear.
A couple more years, and we will be back in the doldrums again.
Boom and bust, rinse, repeat.

When you ADD oil to an economy and as system that is already diversified and successful, then it acts like an accelerator that boosts all parts of the economy, and increases the income of everyone.
BUT if you take a shithole of a country that has a completely backwards economy and dump oil money on top of it, then the entire country just lounges around on the free and easy money and never develops any functional economy, and never diversifies it's income. And then, the instant prices fall, the place collapses.

Scott Smith, the assistant FBI director who runs the Bureau's cyber division, is leaving this month. His deputy, Howard Marshall, also left in recent weeks. Mr. Marshall has accepted a job at Accenture , a consulting firm that is expanding its cybersecurity portfolio. Mr. Smith is also expected to move to the private sector.
David Resch, executive assistant director of the FBI's criminal, cyber, response and services branch, is departing the bureau as well. Mr. Resch, who was named to his senior post by FBI Director Christopher Wray in April, supervised Mr. Smith and Mr. Marshall.
Additionally, Carl Ghattas, executive assistant director of the FBI's national security branch, has decided to leave for the private sector. And Jeffrey Tricoli, a senior FBI cyber agent who oversaw a Bureau task force addressing Russian attempts to meddle in U.S. elections, left last month for a senior vice president position at Charles Schwab Corp. , the Journal reported last week.
The FBI confirmed the departures. One U.S. official said more people are expected to leave soon, declining to provide additional names.

I had a friend whose mom told him his dead relatives were watching over him every day and to be sure not to do... stuff in private. He told me he always wondered how far back it went. Like if there were people from the 12th century watching him watch TV. Just a huge crowd of old dead people he didn't know watching him do mundane stuff in a world they couldn't conceive of.

Without knowing a lot of specifics, that sounds pretty good for us.
They talked for two hours. That's a long time.
We also learned Putin is coming here soon.
So something is afoot. Russia is about all the Iranians have in terms of international support (I think), so they're between a rock and hard place if Russia puts a leash on them.
I wonder what Putin gets out of it. A lifting of sanctions? I think Congress has to do that but I'm not sure.

There's a certain adrvanatge in growing up in a house with a nominally Christian mother and a non practicing Jewish dad. I never heard these ridiculous comments that "God is going to get you for touching yourself" or "God is angry if there's thunder." Maybe people with religious parents didn't hear those things either.

What I *do* enjoy is superstitions, and we talk about them all the time. Partly because they're dying off, which is sad, and partly because most of them are based on something valuable to do or not do. Like don't walk under a ladder, idiot. And don't throw rope off of a boat (can't get more, and it can get tangled in the propeller). They're big fun to talk about and try to figure out.

For starters, it lets Russia firmly put Syria into their corner. Iran was Syria's sponsor up until the Arab Spring broke out, and has retained some influence even since then. But if you get Iran out of the picture, then Russia goes from having to split the attention of their only solid client in the region, to being the sole benefactor. That could be a big deal (particularly considering that from 1945 until the Obama Administration, the Russians had NO military presence anywhere in the region).
That's probably not enough by itself to cut off Iran. But it would be one of the bits of incentive.

I don't think God is watching me as in the compulsive sheriff/parent in the sky. In my Theological POV God cares enough to want me to become more like His son Jesus Christ and watches me on that journey and empowers me through the HS to do that but I CERTAINLY CAN"T do it under my own power and mess up a lot.
I think superstitions are interesting, I don't regard my faith as that although some Militant atheists seem to regard it that way

I'm in the Louisiana Oilfield and I've been struggling badly the last four years. I do have one comment about Cuomo... with as much as Barackenaten screwed us over down here, I'm not sure I want Cuomo to allow fracking. I want to be able to make a living, but I don't want to go to New York State to do it. If they want to engage in BS to make themselves more dependent on us down here... hey, go ahead and do it. Texas is competition enough right now without the New Yorkers suddenly getting rational or something like that.

Although order could help, it's hard to really be clear about just how completely Venezuela has screwed up their oil reserves. In a frantic drive to increase production, they blew off the pressure in all of their best reservoirs, a very shortsighted and foolish move that ruins your long term recovery prospects. (there are ways to get the remaining oil, but they are expensive and take a lot of technical expertise)
Venezuela stopped doing even basic maintenance on its systems in about 2005. Every single piece of equipment in the county has been gradually run into the ground since then. I saw something once that said if you looked at 100 drilling rigs in the country, 95 of them would be broken down, waiting on parts, and since they can't import any more there are no parts to be had for anything.
An estimate put out by one of the major oil companies stated that, in their opinion, it would take an investment of at least $1 Billion every year for at least 10 years to get Venezuelan production back up and running at a decent level.
They thought it was the magic goose that would always lay golden eggs, and they killed it.

A lot of gas is used for electrical generation. But the best use for liquid fuels, and gas, is transportation. Coal is very well suited to electrical generation, and in modern plants is just as clean as oil or gas. Horses for courses.

The earthquakes in OK are not related to fracking, but to deep-well wastewater disposal, which has been ongoing for much longer. And the earthquakes may be annoying, but I doubt there will ever be a disastrous one.

There was a similar picture after the Virginia earthquake a few years ago (which was actually pretty strong for that area). It showed a plastic lawn chair tipped on its side with the words "NEVER FORGET".
