Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Congratulate the Soon-To-Be #3 Oil Producer in the World: TexasHmm, #3 oil producer with a lot of land and a strong economy...? Why, you'd think such a small-s state could almost be its own capital-S independent State. The future charter state of New America will pass Iran in oil production, and will be second only to Russia and Saudi Arabia. Sexton points out that if another accounting of total US oil production is credited as right, the US is already the number 2 producer. Already. By the way: The anti-fracking agitprop designed to stop America from becoming the world's biggest oil producer is of course funded by Russia, "interfering" in our domestic politics and influencing elections, trying to get candidates elected who would outlaw fracking. Why doesn't CNN ever talk about that, he asked rhetorically. I guess sometimes Russian Interference in Our Precious Democracy is a good thing. As long as it's in service of Russia's actual allies in the US, the socialist/Democrat left.Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

I've seen somewhere that the USA's proven reserves are bigger than almost everyone else combined because of fracking technology. Also a good time to bring up oil as an abiotic substance.
It's a hypothesis but the idea is that it's renewing due to hydrocarbon pools buried deep in the earth. I've not researched it at length but I believe the idea goes that the earth's rotation and internal pressures convert these hydrocarbons into oil and push them up to the surface. I read a thing years ago about how oil wealth can be a curse. You'd think it's great to have free money underground, but it fucks up places.
Who has oil? Nigeria, Venezuela, Russia, the Gulf states, Iran. The oil trade makes them lazy and corrupt and it doesn't matter what you do it matters who you're connected to. Things go downhill and you get Venezuela. Posted by: Bandersnatch Part of the problem is IQ. The average IQ in Venezuela is mid 80s. Now, we have another military build up, so some folks are back. I know that's how I got my new job (start in August), and that the cost of construction jumped about 25% in Anchorage because everything is going up north to Greely, Eielson and Clear. 20 years ago Chevron was basing exploration decisions on $17 oil (it was below that at the time). That is about $27 in current dollars.
Many operations shut down as OPEC drove the price down to $10, but at current $69, there should be a lot of producers pumping it out, not to mention all the offshore sites that just refuse to allow drilling. just guess, that maybe $42/brl would dampen Russia/Iran/Saudi interest in funding any wars, as they strive to produce butter more than guns. Posted by: Sherry Grainger at July 19, 2018 07:25 PM (kXoT0) Every society in history before the modern era had two classes: A hereditary nobility with special rights and privileges, and the peasantry who were completely dominated by the nobility. It was capitalism that created a middle class who could own property and businesses, and attain a good deal of independence. They could run their own lives without a need for rulers. The U.S. Constitution codified a limited government of, by, and for the people. The so-called Progressives want to turn the clock back, eliminate the middle class, and return to the feudal system where the "masses" are utterly dependent on a government ruled by the hereditary nobility. When you ADD oil to an economy and as system that is already diversified and successful, then it acts like an accelerator that boosts all parts of the economy, and increases the income of everyone. BUT if you take a shithole of a country that has a completely backwards economy and dump oil money on top of it, then the entire country just lounges around on the free and easy money and never develops any functional economy, and never diversifies it's income. And then, the instant prices fall, the place collapses. Posted by: Tom Servo at July 19, 2018 07:55 PM (V2Yro) 300

His deputy, Howard Marshall, also left in recent weeks. Mr. Marshall has accepted a job at Accenture , a consulting firm that is expanding its cybersecurity portfolio. Mr. Smith is also expected to move to the private sector. David Resch, executive assistant director of the FBI's criminal, cyber, response and services branch, is departing the bureau as well. Mr. Resch, who was named to his senior post by FBI Director Christopher Wray in April, supervised Mr. Smith and Mr. Marshall. Additionally, Carl Ghattas, executive assistant director of the FBI's national security branch, has decided to leave for the private sector. And Jeffrey Tricoli, a senior FBI cyber agent who oversaw a Bureau task force addressing Russian attempts to meddle in U.S. elections, left last month for a senior vice president position at Charles Schwab Corp. , the Journal reported last week. The FBI confirmed the departures. One U.S. official said more people are expected to leave soon, declining to provide additional names. wsj Posted by: artisanal 'ette at July 19, 2018 07:58 PM (fceHP) Posted by: bluebell at July 19, 2018 07:58 PM (JJZzu) 312

We also learned Putin is coming here soon. So something is afoot. Russia is about all the Iranians have in terms of international support (I think), so they're between a rock and hard place if Russia puts a leash on them. I wonder what Putin gets out of it. @329 I wonder what Putin gets out of it. A lifting of sanctions? I think Congress has to do that but I'm not sure.
-------------------------------- For starters, it lets Russia firmly put Syria into their corner. Iran was Syria's sponsor up until the Arab Spring broke out, and has retained some influence even since then. But if you get Iran out of the picture, then Russia goes from having to split the attention of their only solid client in the region, to being the sole benefactor. That could be a big deal (particularly considering that from 1945 until the Obama Administration, the Russians had NO military presence anywhere in the region). That's probably not enough by itself to cut off Iran. But it would be one of the bits of incentive. Posted by: junior at July 19, 2018 08:38 PM (2fhsS) 466

But we have the oil and gas and it is accessible. I'm in the Louisiana Oilfield and I've been struggling badly the last four years. I do have one comment about Cuomo... with as much as Barackenaten screwed us over down here, I'm not sure I want Cuomo to allow fracking. I want to be able to make a living, but I don't want to go to New York State to do it. If they want to engage in BS to make themselves more dependent on us down here... hey, go ahead and do it. "If we sent 10 oil drilling companies from Texas with some Marines (to make sure nobody/Maduro could steal all their stuff). Venezuelans could eat again."
Although order could help, it's hard to really be clear about just how completely Venezuela has screwed up their oil reserves. In a frantic drive to increase production, they blew off the pressure in all of their best reservoirs, a very shortsighted and foolish move that ruins your long term recovery prospects. (there are ways to get the remaining oil, but they are expensive and take a lot of technical expertise) Venezuela stopped doing even basic maintenance on its systems in about 2005. Every single piece of equipment in the county has been gradually run into the ground since then. I saw something once that said if you looked at 100 drilling rigs in the country, 95 of them would be broken down, waiting on parts, and since they can't import any more there are no parts to be had for anything. An estimate put out by one of the major oil companies stated that, in their opinion, it would take an investment of at least $1 Billion every year for at least 10 years to get Venezuelan production back up and running at a decent level. They thought it was the magic goose that would always lay golden eggs, and they killed it. Posted by: Tom Servo at July 19, 2018 08:52 PM (V2Yro) 507

Attach model UFO to top of column, with blinking LED lamps on it. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at July 19, 2018 09:26 PM (bNb8V) 565

Yup. Buffett owns rail tank car leasing companies and probably much of the railroads themselves.
Berkshire Hathaway owns the Union Pacific, which absorbed the Southern Pacific, Missouri Pacific and Western Pacific railroads. Which gives them control of a large part of the western US. Posted by: Fox2! at July 19, 2018 09:42 PM (2qipQ) 568

Been living in Texas for 47 years and wouldn't trade it for anywhere! No state income tax, lots of freedom, my neighbors are cows and deer, current gas price is $2.49 gal and oh yea, there's a well about 100 yards from my house that is just about done fracking. Drill baby drill!
