Jordan Peterson Files $1.5 Million Defamation Lawsuit Against Wilfrid Laurier, The Canadian University That Called Him an Incompetent Nazi While Intimidating Lindsey Shephard

Yes. Finally.

Let the "Nazis" start suing their enemies into the poor-house. Just like they did in WW2 (obviously).

University of Toronto Professor Jordan Peterson has launched a $1.5-million defamation suit against Wilfrid Laurier University, two of its professors and a former gender and equity manager for suggesting he was “analogous to Adolf Hitler.”

The statement of claim, prepared by lawyer Howard Levitt and filed Monday, says Peterson was falsely labelled as incompetent, sexist, misogynist, dangerous and racist in a now infamous disciplinary meeting with Wilfrid Laurier University teaching assistant Lindsay Shepherd.

...

"So I think this is a warning, let's say, to other careless administrators and professors who allow their ideological presuppositions to get the best of them to be a bit more careful with what they say and do," he said.

34 Yeah this isn't so much people getting "carried away" its a specific and systematic effort to reduce every single person who isn't sufficiently leftist to a nazi monster racist hater in the public eye. This isn't like the past where they'd claim someone was just wrong or mistaken, or had a different viewpoint they disagreed with.

See, all those losers and freaks and human detritus that used to hang out by the bus stop and coffee shops that called people fascists for requiring shoes in their store and nazis for calling the police on their graffiti?

They're in charge of schools, newspapers, movies, even businesses. They took over while we weren't paying attention. So now they use the same idiotic rhetoric... but have the power behind them to make it stick and hurt.

It was mostly an introduction to classical ways of thinking for those who hadn't been exposed to that sort of thing. Hell, it wasn't even particularly masculine. I think it truly exposes the intellectual bankruptcy of leftist dogma that any level of independent thinking, even non-political, is verboten.

I suspect it's because he's "inside the walls" in Academia, and in closed pseudo-religious systems (which is what Academia is, now) "BURN THE HERETIC!!!" always gets people more excited than any other endeavor. Perhaps they are correct to see him as a huge threat, because his very existence inside the walls challenges their own claims to Supreme Moral Authority.

they couldn't care less about what people like us say, because to them we are just Barbarians and are to be ignored. So they hate us, but they don't spend this kind of emotional energy on us. The Heretic, though - BURN HIM!!! BURN!!!!

Fascism and Totalitarianism is the Nature of Man. Its just What We Do. History shows that - at least my limited reading of it does. My study of Human Nature shows it.

The more ambitious the Man, the more he'll use any means available to manipulate, coerce, and control those around him.

Google tells me a toonie weighs 6.92 grams.

1.5 million / 2 * 6.92 grams = 5190kg = 11,442lbs.

The curb weight of a 2018 Mustang GT is 3,705lbs.

So the sack of toonies would weigh as much as 3.09 Mustang GTs.

In China corruption is simply how things get done, have always gotten done, and always will get done. They don't have any concept of government or business without bribes, kickbacks, extortion, and theft. The only time it gets punished is when someone who is even more crooked wants to get a rival or competitor out of the way.

That's why they build bridges with sections packed with garbage, their pollution is so horrendous, their buildings literally fall over, their waterways are poison, their foods are filled with carcinogens, etc. It doesn't even matter what laws are passed, they are completely ignored for the right price.

118 Fascism and Totalitarianism is the Nature of Man. Its just What We Do. History shows that - at least my limited reading of it does. My study of Human Nature shows it.

The more ambitious the Man, the more he'll use any means available to manipulate, coerce, and control those around him.

You want to limit Man's ability to do that shit ? Limit his means, and/or his free time. Whatever you do ... don't build him an apparatus to use. You know ... like a big damn government."

I agree with you completely on that! It was the idea of our founders to try and build a government that was effective, but limited. We've just been too damn good at getting around all of the limitations that were there, and have got no one to blame but ourselves.

There's a reason this is an eternal conundrum that can never be solved, except for short periods of time. The only way to "limit his means" involves the use of compulsive systems that are exactly what we don't want, except without those, man is no longer limited, and he will immediately set about to building them.

God looks down at us, and sometimes he laughs, and sometimes he cries.

Trump has said everybody illegally crossing will be prosecuted, and he's still saying that. If we do it any other way, then we're creating incentives for these kids to be used and abused, which is what the left claims they don't want.

Even if that same speech was directed against a non-public figure in America, it still wouldn't make it as defamation. You are allowed to state your opinion about things in America. If I say of you that I have heard the way you speak to women (assuming that's true), and that it seems to me you have a disrespectful attitude when talking to them, and therefore you are a sexist - that's not defamation. It's stupid, but it is opinion, so allowed.

On the other hand, if I claim I saw you kicking a dog, that's a factual assertion. Assuming it's untrue, it's defamation.

145 A railgun is a beautiful anti-ship and shore installation weapon, it delivers incredible power for not a lot of cost. That's ideal for a fixed, large target

The problem is, that's all its good for. It is basically impossible to use to hit things over the horizon, it has to be aimed by turning the ship (a huge step back in development), and it isn't any use against anything significantly mobile.

So neat idea for some applications (hitting big space ships, for instance) but very limited in the real world. Its like the carbon rod bombardment idea (used in GI Joe): neat concept but really not very useful in 99.9% of situations.

162 Honestly, while every principled fiber of my being harbors contempt for them, it's difficult not to admire people who have worked up a scam that costs *nothing*, does *nothing* material, and yet brings in hundreds of millions of dollars. I mean, they are even less engaged than the Clinton Foundation.

What happened to The Center Science in the Public Interest? Remember, those were the guys that would put out reports on how something people liked was actually bad for you like clockwork, about every two or three months. Wheat will kill you. Apples give you cancer. Feeding children causes them to get leprosy. Every few months, another absurd claim that the news guys could not wait to rush to proclaim as the voice of God.

They kind of disappeared, where did they go? Did everyone just finally figure out they were totally contradictory and full of crap?

163 I dunno how Canadian defamation laws work, but he'll
have a hard time proving damage. If anything, the event might have
increased his visibility and audience since controversy sells.

In the US, this probably wouldn't work but if Canada has the
motherland's defamation laws which are *much* looser than in the US, he
probably has a shot. He'd be a slam dunk winner in the UK if he didn't
have all the wrong opinions.

1.5 million / 2 * 6.92 grams = 5190kg = 11,442lbs.

This.

There is no poverty in the U.S. Sure, people have less than others, but anyone who has a cell phone, a microwave, a color TV, cable, designer sneaks, etc. is NOT poor. Something like > 95% of households have color TVs (I looked it up once, but don't remember exactly). Being envious of what others have does not in itself mean you're poor.

Poor means you lack food, clothing, shelter. If you have those, you're not poor. I've traveled extensively in the Third World, and THERE you see real, no-shit poverty.
