Less than a week after Stefan Halper was outed as the FBI informant who infiltrated the Trump campaign, public records reveal that the 73-year-old Oxford University professor and former U.S. government official was paid handsomely by the Obama administration starting in 2012 for various research projects. A longtime CIA and FBI asset who once reportedly ran a spy-operation on the Jimmy Carter administration, Halper was enlisted by the FBI to spy on several Trump campaign aides during the 2016 U.S. election. Meanwhile, a search of public records reveals that between 2012 and 2018, Halper received a total of $1,058,161 from the Department of Defense. ![]() Perhaps he can use that money for gastric bypass surgery. Hannity had Victoria Toensing on (Joe DiGenova's wife, they're in practice together) and she was talking about the setup of Papadopolous. They were trying to get several Trump aides to bite, but they didn't, and it was Papadopolous who fell for it. They get him to London, make him think he's a big shot, and have in an unfamiliar setting where he won't realize things are amiss. They used a honey trap on him it, turned out. Had some hot blonde get all friendly with him in that London bar and make sure he got all tanked up. She was the one who made sure he, in drunken stupor, got to chatting with the Australian ambassador. So, lesson, my fellow babies. "We demand that Amazon stop powering a government surveillance infrastructure that poses a grave threat to customers and communities across the country," officials from the ACLU, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Freedom of the Press Foundation, and Human Rights Watch wrote in a letter. "Amazon should not be in the business of providing surveillance systems like Rekognition to the government."
++++ Perhaps someone should remind the retards at the ACLU what "ACLU" actually stands for. Something about civil liberties, I believe. Amazon, is not the government. As a private company, they can't infringe our civil liberties. If the ACLU wants to make demands of anyone, they should figure out a way to direct those demands at a government, if they can figure out how said government is infringing on anyone's civil liberties with this software. Amazon should tell the ACLU to go piss up a rope. Posted by: Anon Y. Mous at May 23, 2018 10:18 PM (pvjTE) 47

Sounds like Starbucks' new super-liberal "come and stay forever... and ever... and ever..." policy is already providing all sorts of wonderful new situations and experiences for the employees, to say the least. https://tinyurl.com/yafywc6n (link to Fox News) Quote from the article: Someone claiming to be an employee who works at a store in the loop in Chicago said they hate the new policy because the store bathrooms have turned into a hub for drug activity. "We haven't been allowed to change our bathroom codes since April. So almost all the junkies and homeless people know the code now. For some time my working assumption has been the Clintons have billions salted away in off-shore accounts and Swiss Banks.
Then I started thinking of the movie Goodfellas. Whenever Henry or the others made a score they always had to kick some up to Paulie, who in turn probably had to kick some up to whomever. How much have the Clintons had to kick up the real bosses? Also in the movie, the restaurant guy who brought in Paulie as a 'partner' for protection... ended up being gutted... "Fuck You, Pay Me." Seattle has tried the bike share thing a couple of times and in different ways. If you didn't bring your own, you also had to rent a bike helmet.
The current iteration has most of the bikes stripped for parts and dumped around town in vacant lots. This is a city built on seriously steep hills where while it doesn't rain all the time, rains enough through the winter to be slippery as hell. The current $12 Million per mile bike lanes will cure all ills though. The city used to not use a salt mix for freezing temps because it might run off the streets into the Sound which is of course, salt water. Posted by: Winston at May 23, 2018 11:23 PM (wgCUV) 293

Re electric buses:
"On a sunny morning in spring 2015, BYD rolled out its first five buses for an Earth Day ceremony outside the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority headquarters. Then the buses were quietly sent back to the factory. Internal Metro reports show the buses required an "extensive campaign of retrofits, modifications and upgrades to correct irregularities." More problems arose when they returned months later to carry paying passengers for the first time, daily Metro logs show. White smoke issued from the rear wheel of #1005. Bus #1004 wouldn't start its second run of the day and on its next run needed a jump-start. Bus #1001 limped back to the depot when its battery dropped to 15% charge after just 68 miles, failing to complete its route. Then, logs show, #1005 stalled on the road. That was the first 10 days. In the following months, transit logs show the buses repeatedly stalled on city hills, including a downtown incline a little more than a mile from BYD's Los Angeles headquarters. Once, the driver radioed that the bus was unsafe, rolling backward. Though Metro was promised a range of 155 miles per charge, Metro records show the buses never went farther than 133 miles, and were forced back to the garage to recharge in as little as 78 miles. Factoring in breakdowns and other service interruptions, Metro reports show drivers realized no better than an average of 59 miles between charges. Most months, according to Metro records, the buses managed fewer than 400 miles between road calls, requiring emergency service or a return to the garage 10 times worse than the rest of the fleet. Villaraigosa sidestepped questions at a BYD function last fall about whether the company delivered on its promises and focused instead on what he called "the revolution." I was talking with my boss a couple of weeks ago about electric cars (we make high power electronic components along with our light bulbs), he was of the opinion that they were the wave of the future (our company just installed a charging station).
I told him that the biggest impediment to electric vehicles is our battery technology. When we can create a battery to power an electric car at 70-80 MPH for 350+ miles and recharge from 25% to full in 15 minutes electric cars for the US market will make sense. Until then, they are just toys for rich people (cause they cost too damn much to be simple commuter cars). Posted by: GGE of the Moron Horde, NC Chapter at May 23, 2018 11:42 PM (vbvxt) 363

The point of the free market is that if this becomes an impediment a rival should rise up and serve the under represented population. Then the original one sees that it is not in their best interest to continue to make business decisions based on politics instead of or actually against monetary gain. This actually worked with the NFL, who I would like to see go the way of the Dodo. And I 'liked' the NFL. I think the very biggest impediment is the unpredictability of battery life. So the battery is rated for X miles. If, after a number of charging cycles, craps out at X-5 miles, people are going to be pissed. And yet that is at this point an ineluctable feature of all currently (sorry) available batteries: their lifetimes diminish over time, sometimes unpredictably. Posted by: qdpsteve at May 23, 2018 11:49 PM (eMKNe) If we lived in a world quite without fossil fuels, we would probably make synfuels. But failing that, we might have electric cars, but the batteries would all be of a standard design (or maybe several such), and hot-swappable. And there would be battery-exchange stations all over the place. You'd just drive in, they'd measure the remaining energy in your battery, credit you for that, and swap in a fully-charged one. In and out in three minutes, and the depleted batteries could be slow-charged in a dedicated facility. I looked up a review of a Honda Clarity (one of the cars I've seen filling up there). Mikey NTH. Yeah or just aircraft in general. Do you have a desire to sniff glue and all that? What scale? What era? What is your favorite plane? Always remember this is a hobby. Posted by: Anna Puma (HQCaR) at May 23, 2018 11:41 PM (4vdiJ) Alright!Actually, I just got back into it after about a thirty year hiatus.* Scale I like is 1/48. My era is WWII. My favorites bounce between the F4F Wildcat, P-40 Warhawk, and P-38 Lightning. My builds have been an SBD Dauntless from the Wasp CV-7. A P-36 Hawk from the Pursuit Group at Pearl Harbor. USS Bogue CVE-9 one of the waterline models that I darn near went blind building. A P-40 Warhawk also from the Pursuit Group at Pearl Harbor. Painting tips, construction tips, and places to scream about the iniquity of model designers (are you freakin' kidding me? The 20 mm guns on a ten inch long escort carrier come in two parts? And the island in five+?) is what I am looking for. I am on FacePlant and I have posted pictures of my builds as I am building. Usually it is a long season of painting, then a long season of subsidiary builds, then a brief flourish when it all comes together. Which is a bit anti-climactic. Anyway, finding a fellow Horde community with models is just too sweet. We need a weekend model thread.*That last one was about 30 years ago, and it was a 1955 Ford Victoria. I cut the roof of to make it a Sunliner, a convertible. My mom graduated from Michigan State in 1955 and she bought that car in light blue and white. She also bought an Alcort Super Sailfish boat. I have the boat in the garage, I am just starting some work on the front deck. Long story, I made the model to look like her car (she loved that car). Posted by: GGE of the Moron Horde, NC Chapter at May 24, 2018 12:07 AM (vbvxt) Increasing the efficiency of use of a low efficiency fuel doesn't help much because there's no free lunch, thermodynamically. All of these chemical compounds are basically a source of electrons at low electrochemical potential relative to oxygen. When the compound is already partially oxidized - as ethanol is - you've already lost a lot of thermodynamic driving force, but not the weight, the volume, or the expense. (As an extreme example of the principle, consider a proposal to use CO2 as a fuel.) Liquid hydrogen would be a perfect fuel if it weren't such a bear to handle and transport. Changing batteries like stage coaches and the Pony Express changed horses?
Posted by: Zettai Roshia-no Botto at May 24, 2018 12:10 AM (e9G8E) Last weekend I watched a Formula-E race on TV. Formula-E is like Formula1 except the cars are electric. As the race proceeded, they showed each car's remaining charge and I wondered what they would do in the pits to recharge the batteries. Well, sure enough, when the carts pitted the drivers would jump out of the old car and jump into a new fully charged car and drive off. Is Formula-E some sort of booster event to show how awesome electric cars are? Take 2 cars for each driver for a 40 minute race. That is efficient. Also skip the Hasegawa kit for issues like non-perforated dive flaps and the bomb fairing is incorrect. Find the Accurate Miniatures kits that cover the SBD-1 to SBD-5. No opinions on any of the current P-38 kits out there. *Not all HobbyBoss kits are good. And when paying $30 to $40 a kit it really is inexcusable. Their F6F Hellcat line has an oversized cockpit that can seat Michael Moore plus it is missing the machine gun barrels. Their P-61A first production had no top turret and they made the top too curved to be accurate. Their P-61B has the top turret which they then made oversized. If 50% of the Personal Vehicles in the U.S. were rechargeable, battery powered cars and trucks.
The collapse of the present electrical grid would be a Hollywood Disaster Film come to life. Utilities can barely keep pace with the demands of air conditioning on hot, humid days. Remember the California Brownouts? Yeah, thank of that on a National Scale, but turned up to "11". And all of those "recharging" utilities will be burning natural gas, coal, or isotopes. Today's computer controlled, Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle technology, already produces total net output levels far below a pure electric vehicle. Said "net" output" taking into account the fossil fueled powerplants that furnish the recharge. Tesla vehicles generate far more actual pollution, than does a PZEV Honda or Nissan. Not to mention the filthy, dirty, stinkin' rotten water contaminating fact of life which is mining for Lithuium, Cobalt and other minerals essential to the 'lectric limo. Effectively the problem boils down to how to produce or otherwise access electrons at sufficiently low electrochemical potential to release useful amounts of energy when transferred to the terminal electron acceptor (oxygen, in this case). And that's expensive, whether thermodynamically or temporally (the time necessary to collect enough solar energy to generate a useful amount of stored energy). "And cultural appropriation isn't a thing? What rock do you live under? I suggest you educate yourself on the differences between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation"
Maybe it's time to stop trying to force ourselves to "appreciate" inferior cultures. It's time to break ourselves loose from an obsession with what we perceive to be exotic. Just tell them to bugger off. That way we will satisfy the white anti-appropriationists and the minority ones who are looking for opportunities to be offended. Late to the thread, which has apparently died. RIP, thread.
Anyway I work all weekend but I do have Memorial Day off. A rarity. I usually work holidays. I read the NFL thread below. My NFL watching has been in decline for a while. Nothing really to pin point as to how or why, its just declined. The uber wokiness, anti Americanism hasn't helped of course but its more than that. I'd rather watch golf. Really. I do play as often as possible so that might have something to do with it. The NFLPA is run by an Obamabot so expect a push back, which I support. Go all in dummies. Used to watch lots of racing but even thats declined a bit. Indy 500, Monte Carlo, and the 600 mile race in Charlotte is this weekend too. Not sure how much I'll watch. I'm working. "Found this retweeted on Ben Shapiro's feed:
"Standing for the National Anthem is meaningless if it is mandated, and such a mandate undermines the essential liberty of free speech." sorry Little Ben ... the only thing the NFL is mandating is that their players don't openly "flip the bird" to their customers. It is not mandated of the crowd, and even the players can opt out by staying off the field. (though the customers will still notice) Shapiro is smart at times, but has that Trump derangement syndrome. It is the NFL mandating their players not disrespect the fans. That respects the fans' belief in liberty (and their choice to not attend games where players display hate for their country). The "mandate" does nothing to undermine the liberty of free speech, you little twit. There are all sorts of rules for players that deal with mandates on their actions so they don't harm the NFL's "character". Their huge salaries are part of that agreement, though they still have plenty of criminals on the field. And recall when Dallas players wanted a little insignia to respect the officers slain by the BLM "activist", an NFL mandate refused to allow it. Where were the free speech claims then? We even have Ms Mosby, of Freddy Grey fame taking punches while trying to explain how a 17 year old with four previous car theft arrests in six months can run down and kill an officer using a fifth stolen vehicle at 2:00 pm on a school day.
