Some House Republicans Are Conspiring to Make Open Borders the Law in America

Fred Bauer has the details.

The Democrats are seeking a discharge petition which would force a floor vote on some DACA plan without Ryan's approval. They need 25 Republicans to join them to do this; already they have seventeen.

Here's what makes this poison pill especially poisonous: The plan is to make this a "Queen of the Hill" vote, which apparently means that they will offer some number of bills (four is the number mentioned), and whichever bill gets the most votes -- not even a majority of the House! -- becomes the House bill.

Now, it doesn't take a genius to realize that the Democrats will all vote for the Democrat version, which is Open Borders, and that Republicans will probably split between several possibilities varying in leniency for illegal immigrants.

So House Republicans are -- if you can believe this; I know they've never done this before -- setting up a new production of Failure Theater, where they'll later claim they were against the Democrat Open Borders version of the DACA bill but, goshdarnit!, the structural mechanism they used for voting guaranteed that that version would become the House bill.

Like they did with the Iran deal. Like they did with the debt ceiling.

Once the Open Borders bill passes the House, it's up to the Senate to stop it -- and with a one-vote Senate majority, which includes Open Borders Senators like Graham and McCain -- do you trust the Senate to block this?

It's enraging.

It's time to tell them to stop this obvious sham vote. If they want to vote for Open Borders, they should do so openly, not create some backdoor bullshit where they vote to make it impossible to stop the Open Borders bill and then pretend to vote against it, when they know their vote is merely cosmetic.

We've seen this game before, and we will not stand for it any longer.

Do Open Borders Liberal Republicans want more Trump? Because this is how they'll guarantee they'll get a lot more Trump.

BTW: Now that I think about it, part of the reason I'm so afraid of this is that I completely do not trust Trump to veto a bill that has passed the House and Senate. Hell, I'm not even sure I trust him to read it.

So I have to note that I don't trust that guy, either.

But I'm especially angry at Republican congressmen who continue to run the Failure Theater con on the Deplorable Rubes and continue to think they can get away with it with no consequences.

There must be consequences. You can't betray your voters every damn year and keep your office.

63 Of course Trump can veto any bill - but that's where the most traiterous part of this effort comes into play. It's not about passing any bill, its not about "solving" any problems - right now, Trump has the Dem's backed into a corner on this, and Dem's hate the idea of going into an election with Trump saying "hey, YOU guys killed all the DACA negotiations, not us!!!"

If they can get Trump to veto a bill, then that all turns around, and that's what this is about - it's about giving the Democrats a campaign issue that they think they can use to win house seats this fall. That is all that they really want.

And that is all that these turncoat GOP members voting for this thing want.

99 There are ways this could end up being a good thing.

First - anything unacceptable to Trump stands no chance of becoming law, and Trump's veto would *not* hurt him (public, when strapped down and fed tendentious questions, loves little cute puppies - but doesn't generally think about or GAF about this "issue"). And not the slightest chance of veto over-ride.

Second - along the way to a doomed bill, or law dropped on the president's desk, there could be VOTES ON ACTUAL BIG ISSUES. Imagine that. Something that has become quite rare since 2009.

Both in the House, and especially in the Senate, the amendments to such a bill write themselves -

* hard language conditioning distribution of appropriated $ to "sanctuary" jurisdictions on certification by DHS/DOJ of full cooperation WRT federal immigration law

* legislative fix of the current mess (Trump: "weak immigration laws!") in the way asylum cases are processed; related fixes of other procedural quirks that have resulted in massive illegal influxes the last few years

* appropriations for full border security infrastructure and staffing (forget whether this would fly on such a bill, technically, but maybe)

Point being: no bill becomes law, but in the process, red state incumbent Dem senators, and House Dem competitive-district reps, *finally* have to walk the plank on these issues. In the months before the election. With a popular and mouthy president beating the bejeesus out of them on specifically these votes.

Re-introduce politics to politics. This could be a vehicle for that.

Bauer makes it sound like pro democrat republicans are making a deal with the democrats to get a pro immigration bill on the floor in the belief that the pro immigration members have the votes to get it passed. Once passed those same pro immigration members of congress don't care if they get voted out of office in November. Their work is done and they can move on to paid lobbying.

294 Away a bit but a few apparent misunderstandings afoot here.

Congress did not have any clear plank-walking immigration votes since Trump was elected, that I can recall. That's the point of having them - lots of them - now.

Trump couched his support for any DACA deal in terms of a package, wherein he got other things he wanted. His list was far too modest, actually, but it was not just DACA, not even close.

There's a reason that, up to 2009, Congress (esp. the Senate) had lots and lots of votes, many times repeats on the same basic issues: politics. It's how people used to be defined, forced to stake out their positions on things voters cared about, raise money, generate positive ads, generate negative ads, etc.

And DACA cannot be used to "win" any seats for Dems that aren't as hopelessly blue as NYC or Santa Monica. Not a "wedge" issue for most Americans, not a priority or even that popular among the most, everywhere. If anything, DACA could be a negative for a Dem in a competitive district, in most cases.

328 TheJamesMadison: "I guess they're playing to their own constituents in their own districts, as well as donors."

The thing is, across pretty much every demographic and in just about every district, amnesty is a four-letter word. The MFM and the politicians act like they must consider amnesty because "for the people", but time and time again under every administration for either party, the public hates amnesty.

So the demographic they represent is 99.9% Chamber of Commerce. Congress is bought and sold. Their constituents aren't citizens; their constituents are open border globalist hypocrites who want to drive labor wages to the lowest common denominator possible.

Trump is the only - the only - candidate independent of purchasing which is why he remains the only true threat to Washington as long as he maintains his populism. If Trump folds, this nation is pretty much f*cked because government industry and the CoC will buy everything just as always. Elections really won't have any true consequences.

The last two chicken Caesar wraps I've had from Paisano's have been soggy. They must have a new wrap guy.

349 Merkel is no longer reliable for the defense of her own citizens.

Maybe it is good she said that; too many Europeans who see what is happening think we will be their salvation. Again. I think it has made them too complacent.

130 Bimbo

Once, while driving through Vegas, saw a big truck labelled "Bimbo". Then was disappointed to realize it was a Mexican brand name.

352 337 Some states have a rule that the appointment must be from the party the senator ran in.

Is that true in AZ, desert morons?
Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at May 11, 2018 04:39 PM (AzW6q)

Just checked the language. McCain cant screw us over by changing party affiliation. One less thing to worry about.

C. For a vacancy in the office of United States senator, the governor shall appoint a person to fill the vacancy. That appointee shall be of the same political party as the person vacating the office and shall serve until the person elected at the next general election is qualified and assumes office. If the person vacating the office changed political party affiliations after taking office, the person who is appointed to fill the vacancy shall be of the same political party that the vacating officeholder was when the vacating officeholder was elected or appointed to that office.[/]

353 I'm in the camp that his final FU to America is change his party affiliation right before he dies so the Governor must appoint a Democrat.

Then whatever Republican the Governor wants to appoint will briefly change his affiliation to the Democratic Party.

Turnabout being fair play and all.

I seriously read that as "put it in". Once I read about the son I knew I was reading something incorrectly and had the topic totally wrong.

367 Problem is, Ace, that when there is a choice in a primary, you and too many conservative voices run away from the "punish the bastards" to the "well, it's better than Roy Moore, so despite this GOPe guy being exactly the type to support this immigration/budget scam, we have to be adults and vote for him". Sorry. Can't have it both ways. Either we keep re-electing these guys and swallow the s#*t they shove down our throats, or we punish them and let the Demos screw things up for two years. I am not suggesting there is any clear, easy answer, but I have already begun to hear the GOPe election year refrain "you have no other choice than to support our crap candidate".

Posted by: DZouave at May 11, 2018 06:16 PM (9/QQm)

368 Well, this is certainly the one thing that could stem the rising Republican poll numbers --- pass amnesty right before election season begins. Genius!

I guess it is a final FU in memoriam of John McCain's passing. Just like Teddy got to vote for his precious national healthcare on his death bed, the Pubbies are going to bend over the voters so McCain can have one last go at sticking something up their ass.

Good times...

369 And here I am listening to radio reports that Syrian nationals are getting apprehended on the border.

But no matter: Congress and countless elected officials simply hate those who elected them. So their goal is to dissolve the people and elect another as the American people have forfeited the confidence of the government (h/t, Brecht).
