This includes everyone in business, every politician, and every single media fathead on their high horses lecturing Flyover America about sexual harassment, male privilege and misogyny. They knew about it, and did nothing. I'm looking at you, Lester Holt, you slimy c████ks████ker. F████k you. You knew. And you, Jim Acosta. You knew. So you can shove a flaming yule log up your a████ sideways. And you, Matt Lauer, you knew. Of course, you were helping yourself to the goodies, too, just like your pal Scumbag Schneiderman. So f████k you, too. Oh, and Rachel Maddow, you smelly old t████t, you knew, didn't you? And you decided not to tell anyone for political reasons, right? I have genetic PTSD. My great great Grandfather fought with the First Minnesota at Gettysburg. So I'd like my reparations for risking his life. 20's and 100 dollar bills should work. Probably a new history. Had the roman empire existed in modern times it probably would have died sooner. They at least had the benefits of natural selection, as in the libs would die off way sooner due to their stupidity. In the modern world we have ways to keep them alive. They also had this fetish with crucifying traitors to the empire. In modern times they get news shows and teaching jobs at universities.

That is why it is such folly to speak about the Constitution as outmoded, why it is contemptibly stupid to cast aside rule of law for partisan benefit, why it is conceitedly juvenile to embrace change without first understanding the whys (Chesterton's fence), and why no platforming and other attacks on the First Amendment is playing with fire.
Yes, I think it is mid 19th century America, but with external forces pushing buttons, with willing accomplices in our ranks (dems, MSM, colleges, etc.).

The barbarians are us. There are certainly outside forces pushing the buttons to increase civil strife, but the willing useful idiots are the cause.

Remember, the whole spy on Trump, mole, wiretap thing has to also be viewed in context of what Hillary and MSM were saying back in the fall of 2016.
It was imperative that they corner Trump and anyone else regarding "accepting" the election results. That was a tell for what was going on. The Russia Russia Russia thing was ultimately an excuse to cover up after the fact. But it was important at that time to box Trump into accepting the election results.
If people think this is slow walking now. Imagine if Hillary had won and we were trying to get info. That's why it was important and a very large pushback occurred when Trump was saying the election was rigged. It had to be nipped in the bud at that point so NO questioning could possibly be tolerated regarding the results at this point in time.

Thanks for the interesting thoughts. I have always been interested in how history repeats, not specifically, but in generalizations, and have been trying to determine where we stand.
I've always thought that the later half of the 20th century was a major anomaly in human history. too much peace enforced by 2 "rulers" so to speak.
now that one is gone, and one has been undermined some, the rest of the world wants to settle old scores.

So we were watching the Trump rally last night and I suddenly got this feeling of great hope for the future of our country. I told hubbymayhem that if Trump has accomplished this much in less than 2 yrs with the gope against him think what more he can do. Was he already aware of the mole in his campaign?
One thing about Trump tweets, in retrospect, they don't ever seem to be off the mark or bloviation.

excuse to cover up after the fact. But it was important at that time to
box Trump into accepting the election results.
If people think
this is slow walking now. Imagine if Hillary had won and we were trying
to get info. That's why it was important and a very large pushback
occurred when Trump was saying the election was rigged. It had to be
nipped in the bud at that point so NO questioning could possibly be
tolerated regarding the results at this point in time.

I've seen a series on the end of the Roman Empire done from the viewpoint of the Barbarians, just detailing all of the stupid idiotic shit the Romans kept trying to pull on them. The late period Romans come off a whole lot like the class running California today.
One particularly big blowup happened when the Romans let a group of Goths in who had promised to help defend the border against the huns, but then immediately moved to confiscate all of their weapons and let corrupt officials sell off all the food they were supposed to be given. Rebellion was obvious, the Goths laid waste to the countryside, but then told the Eastern Emperor they'd make peace if he just stuck to the terms of the original deal. Instead, he attacked them and got wiped out along with most of the Roman forces in the east, which REALLY opened up the door to anyone who wanted to come in.
It makes me think of how Jerry Brown would have acted if he was in charge of an army. And the results he'd get.

President Trump's election has driven just about everyone mad. I've never seen anything quite like it in my life. Trump's unpredictability has somehow managed to create successful outcomes where others have failed.

3. The gay activists screamed and yelled and ran around with their hair on fire
4. The state legislature passed a modified version of the RFRA, which pretty much gutted it.
5. Pence signed it.
6. #3 did not cease
7. And now Pence's allies were mad at him, too.
So, to sum up, Pence mismanaged the situation and when push came to shove, he caved in to the howling mob. So despite his good qualities, I don't think he's got the stomach for a fight.
And right now, we need fighters.

If we don't start teaching history and citizenship in schools properly the republic as founded is likely doomed. If people don't stop helicopter parenting and teaching these kids that they are special, fragile snowflakes, sooner or later, there will be no side to join upon the split.

I've seen a series on the end of the Roman Empire done from the viewpoint of the Barbarians, just detailing all of the stupid idiotic shit the Romans kept trying to pull on them. The late period Romans come off a whole lot like the class running California today.
One particularly big blowup happened when the Romans let a group of Goths in who had promised to help defend the border against the huns, but then immediately moved to confiscate all of their weapons and let corrupt officials sell off all the food they were supposed to be given. Rebellion was obvious, the Goths laid waste to the countryside, but then told the Eastern Emperor they'd make peace if he just stuck to the terms of the original deal. Instead, he attacked them and got wiped out along with most of the Roman forces in the east, which REALLY opened up the door to anyone who wanted to come in.
It makes me think of how Jerry Brown would have acted if he was in charge of an army. And the results he'd get.
I've always been pretty sympathetic to the "barbarians," particularly the Visigoths. the Romans could be real jerks while acting incredibly pompous about their own superiority (I'm looking at you, Ammianus Marcellinus!)

They at least had the benefits of natural selection, as in the libs would die off way sooner due to their stupidity. In the modern world we have ways to keep them alive. that's why it's not really accurate to compare Rome's late stage to collapse with our position - it would only be comparable if, for the last 100 years, the US Army had been run by Mexican officers and consisted almost completely of highly trained and well armed mexican troops. That's how far gone the Romans were at the end.

Hard to be sure about us - I think China is clearly the most powerful Imperial State in existence today, and at the moment they are actually doing a very good job of it. (which make them very dangerous) What I think is most worrisome is how many Americans, mostly on the left, are looking at China and saying "wow, they're doing good, we should be like them!"
Empires at their peak are very impressive and powerful - but they cannot abide the existence of Free Men.

ok, so we're not QUIET there, but I think you could make a compelling argument that we are approaching that point, or as someone above said, if you place us, small 'c' conservatives in the role of the barbarians. we have a significant percentage of the population that doesn't work and/or is distracted by celebrities and such.
but I do hope that whoever said it above is right and PDJT is the shift that moved us off that arc of history.
but this discussion has now made me REALLY want to go back and reexamine my knowledge of roman history. thanks guys.

Goldsworthy is excellent. I keep meaning to pull the trigger on Heather's book.
In my humble opinion, the Empire in the West was already dead when it "collapsed." It was a long, drawn out process and it began with Caesar declaring himself emperor nearly 500 years before the end....

That was an epic rant of GirillaPundit but absolutely correct. When a primate has greater reasoning abilities than our oh-so-smart betters then a realignment is due if not long overdue.
Trump's election win has actually started that realignment, showing that the average person out there is not going to take it any more.

The collapse of the Roman Empire defies any simple explanation, really. Multiple systematic issues combined with some really bad decisions and just plain bad luck at certain critical junctures. Richard Fernandez theory of societal "reserves" is a really good way of looking at things, I think.

The New Republic article is unclear about the cortisol theory, that low cortisol makes one susceptible to PTSD. The scientist says that people with PTSD produce less cortisol, and this seemed to be passed on to their children. But it doesn't say if they had less cortisol *before* suffering from PTSD. Maybe genetically determined cortisol production was the cause of the PTSD, and thus the reason the kids produce less is not because their parents' PTSD resulted in altering the parents' genes after the trauma.

OK, the diaper thing is ridiculous, but I will say, I actually do think it's important to (barring situations of safety) not just randomly scoop a kid up with no warning. Littles (like 2yos) have no privacy and no control over their environment. They are at the mercy of all the big people around them. So I do make a point of putting my hands out, then waiting until my kid raises his arms before I pick him up. (Again, barring cases of safety) The message is that he doesn't always have to just go along with whatever a bigger person wants to do to him. (Yes, yes, there are many times when he does. Such as diaper changes.)

I gave it a read and thought his argument was pretty lucid. Interesting "back of the napkin" calculation on the probability of major insurrection/war in the U.S.
Of course, when my Lefty relatives trot-out the "who needs an AR-15" argument, I always reply every law-abiding citizen since Democrat politicians have repeatedly proved that they will left their cities burn when their constituents start rioting. That tends to shut up the Lefties.
