He won the 1963 Heisman Trophy and was then drafted as the 129th overall pick of the 1964 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He began playing professional football in 1968 after serving a four-year military commitment in the #USNavy as a supply officer, ultimately attaining the rank of lieutenant.
He did not try to get out of his commitment to the US Navy. Not many like him in the nfl now a days

Years ago at a pool party I attended, there were about 50 adults surrounding the pool chatting and maybe 5 or 6 little kids in the shallow end. I sort of had my eye on the kids and two of the little guys slowly drifted into the deep end and simply, quickly and quietly, went under. No fuss, splashing or yelling. I started to head toward them but one of the mothers beat me to them and dove it to retrieve them both.
No real harm done to either of them but it scared the hell out of everyone.
The kids were under in an instant and did it quietly. You could stand right next to it and never realize what was happening.

When you want/need customer service, don't curse at the agent.
One would *think* that this is obvious, but today a former *customer* called asking/yelling/complaining about an older long term care policy. But he didn't make that clear to the receptionist, who transferred the "gentleman" to an auto/home CSR, who he began to berate and curse. She tried valiantly to ascertain what he needed, and finally understood that it was about his LTCi plan. She told him that he needed to talk to me, but that she wouldn't transfer him until he'd calmed down.
He continued to curse at her, so she hung up, and then buzzed me with a heads' up.
Sure enough, this rocket surgeon called back, and demanded to talk with me. I had already decided how to handle him. He immediately started in, insulting the CSR. I told him that I didn't appreciate his cursing my colleague, and that I would give him the phone number he needed and then I expected never to hear from him again.
At which point he very deliberately said "f*ck you" and hung up.
Without getting the information he needed.
Genius!
I have decided that if he calls back, he will be subject to my (just made up and completely arbitrary) $100 consulting fee, payable in cash, in advance.
Hope he calls.....

That's illogical. Fries are the only deep-fried item of greasy goodness on the list. The rest are a variations on bread+meat. I'd lose the tacos, as much as I like them, because pizza and burgers can fill the gap. Ain't no replacement for nice greasy French Fries.

Last I checked (1985-now) there have been 39 mayors jailed.
36 are Democrats.
BTW, Obama's FBI pulled some of the same political hanky-panky with Charlotte's mayor Patrick Cannon.
They knew in July of 2013 that Cannon was going to be indicted, but held up until after the election in November.
Why? If Cannon was busted, the Republican would be a shoo-in. By waiting until Cannon was in office, it would allow the Dem City Council to select a replacement.
Loretta Lynch's fingerprints are all over that matter.

We had this discussion last night. To be a hero, one has to spontaneously go and put oneself in some degree of risk to save another person, even if that risk is nominally part of the job. (FDNY, q.v.)
These truckers were basically deputized by the highway patrol, and the cops cleared traffic on the blocked freeway so they could take up positions under the bridge. Public-spirited? Sure, and the would-be swan diver should be grateful they were there. Heroes? No. they were never under any sort of risk, and were only moderately inconvenienced, and they got a great story to tell the hawt waitress at the Pilot.

I'm done with the whole thing now. The last show I did was last Mother's Day weekend. A friend and I split the cost of a space at a local RenFaire. We got screwed on the space we got since about half of it was unusable for one reason or another. It was in a crappy spot and the entire weekend was hotter than the hinges of Hell. Thank heavens for summer garb; otherwise I would have died because there was no shade to speak of. Sales sucked because it was the second weekend of this particular RenFaire, and a slimy snake had put on a RenFaire the weekend just prior to the first weekend of ours, so what few attendees there were were RenFaired out and had already spent their money. I decided that was the very last show I was ever going to do. Any more, my friend takes some of my stuff to fill out her table, and a couple of times pieces have actually sold.
Any more, I think it's the professional show promoters who do major advertising who are successful. Those are the shows with a couple hundred venders. And the vendors at those shows pretty much mass produce their items. The day of the profitable high school, church, and shopping mall shows are over. Those have been taken over by the Watkins people and their like.

So, when that investigation was recently reopened, he got some extra scrutiny. And it seems to have paid off!

The NYT piece directly refutes that. They focused on him because of a familial DNA hit. Now, those familial DNA tests can turn up a lot of people who are distantly related and could be the guy. So, the cops then start trying to rule people in and out. Like where he lived at the time, his familiarity with police procedures, etc. But the thing that put him on their radar for further investigation was the DNA.

It also gives someone all the more incentive to never, ever send your DNA to a place like that. Which makes a pretty strong case for never sending your DNA to one of those outfits for testing, because you never know who else will be seeing it.
Hypothetical: you are an adopted child. You send in DNA sample to try to learn more about your genetic background. Unbeknownst to you, you have a twin brother who has been a serial killer for 13 years in an adjacent State. Suddenly the cops are at your door. How do you convince them that you were never near any of the sites of the murders after 13 years?

I don't know when it happened, nor why, but some time ago I just started hating on French fries. If I was having a burger at a non-fast food place, like a diner or a bar, I'd order mashed potatoes. Still do that to this day. Maybe it's that part-Irish side of my Mom trying to assert itself. But whatever the reason, I now loathe French fries. I think of French fries as the answer to the question: How do you ruin a perfectly good baked potato?

The big players in commercial DNA testing - including 23andMe and AncestryDNA - extract genetic profiles from the saliva that customers send to the company in a tube by mail. It would not be easy for law enforcement to upload a profile to one of those sites. Over the past few years, numerous smaller genealogical websites have emerged, however, giving customers more avenues to upload a DNA profile and search for relatives.
I wonder how hard it would be for the cops to get around those restrictions. Heat destroys DNA. So, get some spit, cook the DNA out of it, plug in some of the DNA they had collected, send it in.
I have no idea, just speculating, but I'm guessing it could be done. If not in my wild-ass guessing way, then in some other more grounded in science way.
The problem with restricting themselves to the smaller databases is there aren't so many people in them to compare against. If they really wanted to use that method, they should be sending in samples to all of them
Or maybe, they just have to talk to the feds, since some of them have probably copied all those databases already anyway.

I just did a search on Amazon, and there are all kind of products, but most of them sound pussy. Described with words like "safe", "organic", etc.
There was one, a spray called "Halt" that might be effective. It's banned in CA, so it probably works. They also won't do a 2-day delivery. Says it has to be ground shipped because of FAA regs. Probably worried about the cans bursting in flight and messing everyone up.

I live about 50 miles out. We used to go to Chicago on occasion and enjoy the "Big City". I haven't gone into it in about 3 years now. Red light cameras, parking is impossible, the Metra Train is so damn uncomfortable.
Wife was still talking about going there until about a year and a half ago. A few more shootings, car jackings, etc kinda killed it for her.

The simple, broad-brush way is to calculate the entire government budget and debt (fed, state, regional, county, local, HOA, NGO, etc.) and divide up among the adult population. There you have the per-person cost for living in a First World country.
I bet that the 80/20 rule is in play here. Out of the population, 20% pay for the other 80% to enjoy a thin and deteriorating veneer of civilization.
