Comics Diamond and Silk Branded "Unsafe for the Community" and Banned from FaceBook; Told There Is No Appeal from This Decision

On Twitter, Diamond and Silk announced they'd been banned. Below is what they wrote, with the text stripped out and no tweets embedded.

.@DiamondandSilk have been corresponding since September 7, 2017, with @facebook (owned by Mark Zuckerberg), about their bias censorship and discrimination against D&S brand page. Finally after several emails, chats, phone calls, appeals, beating around the bush, lies, and......

....... giving us the run around, Facebook gave us another bogus reason why Millions of people who have liked and/or followed our page no longer receives notification and why our page, post and video reach was reduced by a very large percentage. Here is the reply from..........

....Facebook. Thu, Apr 5, 2018 at 3:40 PM: "The Policy team has came to the conclusion that your content and your brand has been determined unsafe to the community." Yep, this was FB conclusion after 6 Months, 29 days, 5 hrs, 40 minutes and 43 seconds. Oh and guess what else...

...Facebook said: "This decision is final and it is not appeal-able in any way." (Note: This is the exact wording that FB emailed to us.)

So our questions to Facebook (Mark Zuckerberg) are:
1. What is unsafe about two Blk-women supporting the @POTUS @realDonaldTrump?
2.....

.....Our FB page has been created since December 2014, when exactly did the content and the brand become unsafe to the community?
3. When you say "community" are you referring to the Millions who liked and followed our page?
4. What content on our page was in violation?
5....

.....If our content and brand was so unsafe to the community, why is the option for us to boost our content and spend money with FB to enhance our brand page still available? Maybe FB should give us a refund since FB censored our reach.

.....Lastly, didn't FB violate their own policy when FB stopped sending notifications to the Millions of people who liked and followed our brand page?

This is deliberate bias censorship and discrimination. These tactics are unacceptable and we want answers!

~Diamond and Silk

After pleading their case on Fox and Friends this morning, this unappeable Social Justice Warrior decision is actually being reconsidered by FaceBook, FaceBook now says.

Facebook is reconsidering classifying videos produced by Diamond and Silk, two of President Donald Trump's most ardent supporters, as "unsafe to the community" after the dynamic duo went on Fox News' morning show asking why the embattled social media giant had labeled them as such.

In a statement to Fox News, a Facebook spokesperson said: "We are aware of this issue. We are reaching out to the creators of Diamond & Silk to try and resolve this matter."

I wonder if FaceBook is reconsidering this due to their appearance before Congress this week.

The left has decided that it is the End of History, and that all those who dissent with the identity politics left (with its officially approved and mandated racisms, sexisms, and genderisms) are to be eradicated, at least from the public square.

At least that much -- at first that much.

And meanwhile, the right's ahem intellectual leadership class whines only about their own prospects of working as token conservatives for the leftist machine.

Now it's accepted by everyone that speech can be unsafe.

7 It is interesting to see the coordinated push to silence dissent across all media platforms. Even the Cambridge Analytics bs and the Sinclair media stuff, while sickening, was only pushed now (as opposed to when the left does the same thing) as it gave the ruling class an excuse to move against dissent.

Facebooks entire business model since 2005 or whenever they launched has been to compile, bundle, and sell user information to advertisers and analytical firms. Campaigns since at least the '08 election have bought data from facebook to mine it. I don't know why this is shocking to anyone.

I mean, when McCain was out there saying "people are being radicalized on the internet!!! We need to stop this!!!" did anyone really think he was talking about Islamic terrorists?

Because we all know how this looks in reality -- Facebook hires hundreds of millennials and tells them to get rid of all "unsafe" "dangerous" and "hateful" content on line. So the first place those FB censors go is to anything right wing'ish they can find.

80 D&S posted it this weekend...the "unsafe to community". Yes, thought is unsafe to community. Differing opinions...unsafe to community.

I'm sure Facebook, like Twitter, has their group of people who make these decisions, and they are all in the same mold of SJWs. This time, however, there was a pushback on a large scale, and the person who makes these decisions all the time did not expect that.

I think Jack Dorsey of Twitter made it clear that they want the country to only have one party and be like CA. He linked the article himself.

Yet, these are private companies and have the right to do these things under our current laws, as far as I know. But they are oligarchies and should have been split up years ago. Then there is the harvesting of people's info.

I don't know why I'm posting all this. It's nothing you guys don't know. But there has been a lack of pushback on it, just like with illegal immigration, and so here we are. *zips it*

When you dig down far enough, you will find that a LOT of Facebook and Twitter employees are not from the US.

They are foreigners, from completely different cultures.... cultures where there is no Freedom of Speech.

84 Facebook is evil, blah blah blah. Facebook got hacked by the Russians with $150K in ads to throw the election, blah blah blah. Zuckerberg is a lefty. Blah, etc.

I mean, I get that corporate bias is bad, especially in a medium with a reach as broad as Facebook's, but that's not really what it's about.

FB keeps me in contact with high school and college friends I'm curious about but not that vested in. I get to keep tabs on quite a few girls I've been naked with, you never know what might come around again. I get to argue politics with the very few people who argue in good faith and ignore the others.

My old fishing buddies are there talking about fishing. Some have moved on to wildlife photography, others have gone deeper into the offshore game. I play scrabble with people from random parts of my background.

This kind of thing is SOP for anywhere there is an echo-chamber regarding political opinion. Which is everywhere.

To Facebook ... this is just common sense.

Its a damn tricky thing - trying to formulate rules to differentiate between "acceptable" and "dangerous" political speech. Trickier yet to come up with rules that will be uniformly applied.

I obviously don't get out much, which is why I need your help understanding this weirdness. In reading about Williamson, some writers (conservatives mind you) expressed views about "Trumpers"/"The Alt-right" subverting or ignoring their evangelical Christian beliefs to support Trump who is an immoral jerk (forgive my loose paraphrase) and how this is awful and a betrayal of conservative principles. WTF?!! I am a solid Gen X. I have been eligible to vote in about 7 presidential elections. If my "evangelical Christian principles" dictated my voting I would never have anyone to vote for. Lets see, my first election was between Perot, Bush (Sr.), and Clinton. Now I voted for Perot so I can say I stuck to my principles then but come on. Our choices since then have not been good. Not only that but what happened to Christianity being about forgiveness and not perfection? Did someone spike the pundits drinking water? How is it that only now I am a hypocrite? This is one of the craziest claims I have come across. Since when has any politician passed an evangelical Christian purity test?

But, if NRO wants to ban gay jokes at NRO, that is a bit different than firing someone who told gay jokes somewhere else.

With Clinton they knew they were getting an anti-Christian administration, so they went with the only alternative. As a wise person said, nobody elected Trump to be Pastor-in-Chief. We elected him to be President.

195 One little detail that the right wing press keeps leaving out re: Williamson: he was not fired because he's anti-abortion. He was fired, per The Atlantic, for advocating capital punishment for women who have abortions.

One can argue that he didn't really mean it, or one can argue that he was indeed really fired just for being anti-abortion although that's a tough sell to maintain that The Atlantic wouldn't have already known or at least assumed that. But that little detail is rather important and yet it curiously gets left out of the RW coverage.

256 Simple way to deal with Facebook and their ilk...legislation that does the following...

Internet merchants/sites may use any data they've collected on you within their site. Internet merchants/sites may not sell or share ANY data collected with you with any other party (and that includes allowing your data to be used outside their own domains in ANY way) without your express, explicit approval each time - and an estimate as to the value of the data shared.

Any violations of this will be punished by a $100K fine the first time. Any additional violations will be punished by a $1M fine and 10 years in jail for the responsible party at the company responsible (CTO, project lead, etc)

So, if you go look at socks on Amazon, Amazon can give you adds for socks on the Amazon site. Facebook cannot give you an ad for socks on their site....without your approval.

If Facebook detects that you like a tv show, they can give you an ad for Netflix or whoever for the show - but they can't sell your information to Netflix....without your approval.

This will kill the Facebook model...which should be illegal anyway. It will cause some grief to Amazon/Walmart/etc...but nothing serious.

And it will dramatically improve data security.

Yeah, I get the frustration that leads people to think WE NEED A LAW but that instinct is what leads to what we have now to begin with. This kneejerk "get the government to fix it" thing is the problem not the solution. We need to get back to when people distrusted the federal government like they would flaming hornets. It's funny, how, in a way, Harvey was one of the early canaries in this whole take down escapade. It keeps morphing, but the kernel is the same, create an internet flame out and take down someone you disagree with.

When the little guy does it to the big guy , its all hell yeah! But once the precedent is set, you can see the the big fish are now trying to use it on little fish,to consolidate their power.

I think in the end, things like Facebook and Twitter should be treated like a public utility, broken up into smaller component groups and strictly monitored for the fairness of the offering of the service. Just like a phone company, you can't deny usage based on the fact that you don't like what the user is saying on the platform.

On the other side of the coin. I pay $0 a month for Facebook, so I am not part of the business trx. If they tried to charge me a dime, I would quit it.

365 > If you give government control over speech ... they'll control speech.

It's not necessary to give government control over speech to put a stop to Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter's antics.

All that'd necessary would be to roll back the DMCA and go back to the old "common carrier" model that existed (and worked well) in common law for hundreds of years.

It applied to both entities that moved physical goods (e.g., trucking companies) and entities that moved data (e.g., newspapers).

Basically, you had two choices: transport the goods (or data) for anyone who showed up with the money (a "common carrier"), or transport goods (or data) only for selected customers.

Examples of the two models in old-school communications would be the telephone company and a newspaper.

The phone company had to provide service to anyone with the money, and exerted no control over the content. They were a "common carrier". By choosing that status, they were also immune to any lawsuits or criminal charges that might arise from their customers communicating. Two customers exchange illegal gambling data over the phone, commit slander with it, or even use the phone to plan a murder? The phone company wasn't responsible.

The newspaper, on the other hand, did NOT allow just anyone to communicate. Instead, it picked and chose what articles it decided to run. It was therefore not a common carrier, which meant it was NOT immune to lawsuits for libel, copyright violation, etc.

Notice how the rights and responsibilities in those two models line up:

Phone company: no right to choose what was transmitted, no responsibility for what was transmitted.

Newspaper: full rights to choose what was transmitted, full responsibility for what was transmitted.

The current setup that the social media sites have gives them full rights to control what's transmitted but no responsibility for what's transmitted. That's wrong, and is greatly at odds with how things have historically worked.

Tell YouTube and Facebook "Either stop censoring WrongThink or you'll have to take responsibility for all the copyright violations on your service." See how that grabs them.

What I said was I don't consider this the same kind of social media. Hell, meeting some friends for drinks can be defined as social media if you look at it in the broadest sense.

Facebook's business model is built on collecting and sharing your data for cash. Billions of dollars of cash. They aren't there to facilitate your conversations. If ace is selling our data for a living then that explains why he is building Ikea shelves instead of living in a gated compound with a 9 digit bank account.

If you are good with the arrangement then use it and if you aren't then don't. My only problem with facebook is that they seem to have fooled about 90% of their "customers" into thinking they were some gentle giant instead of what they really are which is a harvester of personal information.

400 So here's a thing:

The "safe harbor" for online services that keeps them protected from libel/slander and other liability is based on their just being common carriers.

If they curate their users, tweet makers, video creators etc., beyond moderating things that are illegal, and especially if there is a viewpoint applied to that curation, then don't they become PUBLISHERS? That's what got Backpage in hot water, so why wouldn't Facebook, Twitter, Youtube be subject to loss of safe harbor protections from this?

Someone ought to bring a declaratory judgment case.

Didja see this comment from retiring GOP Rep. Charlie Dent?

"It's exhausting," centrist Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.), who announced his retirement last fall, told The Hill. "What we've gotten out of the administration is all this disruption, and it's very destabilizing."

Trump's a boat rocking, swamp drainer and they don't like it.

406 So what would Justice look like here? By the left's rules, merely getting their account back in a working monetized faction is not enough. Justice would require everyone knowing the names of those responsible and having their lives ruined. I'm all for that. We didn't write the rules.
