Meanwhile, Jeff Zucker, who's probably afraid his Airport-Only network may go tits-up, whines that government should probe the practices of the "monopolies" of Google and FaceBook, and I can't really disagree with him on the general claim.

106 Jesus, this is pathetic.

Ar-15 got the same result as the OP. Let's try something innocuous- "ar-15 case". Same result. MP5 case? Works fine. SKS case? No problem. Huh.

Pistol case, rifle case, shotgun case- all fail.

BUT THE GODDAMN ADWORDS ADS STILL SHOW UP FOR ALL THE PEOPLE/FIRMS SELLING ALL DIFFERENT KINDS OF GUN CASES.

Assholes.

Posted by: zombie at February 26, 2018 05:14 PM (42M22)

109 I think Twitter is the pressure point.

They've become the prime means of conversation world wide.

They should not be allowed to censor those who use the service.

Make it a pay utility or accept all comers.

And a transparent set of rules and input to those rules for banning certain types of expression.

And yes, that will mean some people will accidentally see things that will upset them.

Tough.

110 98 Here's the real proof though. Under Google's shopping search for "Cabelas." Bunch of items. Then try Searching for "Cabelas guns."
Posted by: buzzion at February 26, 2018 05:11 PM (lKs2v)

See this is the real proof, because Google's shopping says that they are compensated by the merchants, so maybe you think "Ok maybe its just because there aren't any companies that sell guns that deal with Google." But Cabela's clearly deals with Google because you can search for stuff for them under it. Hell you can even find gun accessories if you search "Cabelas Firearms." But you get ZERO if you search "Cabelas Guns"

Posted by: buzzion at February 26, 2018 05:14 PM (lKs2v)

116 My position on the politicization of everything is well yowled (I'm agin' it).

That being said, it does seem that there has been a very hard lurch in corporations being openly Leftists over the last few years and it's just accelerating since the ascension of the Golden Scalp Weasel.

joncelli, was it you who noted that at a certain point corporations become large enough to view themselves as quasi government entities? That is an astute point.

I wonder if the rise in actual NGOs and the way in which upper level management drifts between corporations, NGOS, and government agencies also gives rise to this phenomenon. It's all just this mush of ruling class mores and thus it is really not perceived that there is anything wrong with acting in such a manner.

I am going to have to ponder my stance on all of this. What do you do when facts change, after all.

Posted by: zombie at February 26, 2018 05:14 PM (42M22)

I'm still a bit confused about it myself because I remember all the Sandy Hook false flag conspiracies and back then it seemed to involve both people hired to just wail on camera, but some people were actually saying some of the parents were hired to claim they lost children when they actually didn't.

Yes, it's crazy. The people claiming that last part were actually claiming no one was killed at all. Needless to say most people treated them like they treat 9/11 Truthers.

Also I don't remember any of those videos getting pulled down. Maybe they were because I only watched a couple of them. That was enough.

I'm not sure anyone has started up with the shooting in Florida didn't happen or the parents are actually crisis actors. Probably they have but since they're shitcanning everything that refers to it, it's hard to say.

I'd go with a Crisis Actor is someone hired to promote a narrative about the shooting that aims to curtail or remove the right to bear arms. The Hogg kid would be a crisis actor.

Regardless, this time around the social media companies are working overtime to try and memory hole any reference to crisis actor.

I follow another guy on youtube who is a long haired libertarian sort who lives in Vermont and he put up a video about the shooting today and it's still up. No mention of crisis actor anywhere in the title, though.

142 Most of the big non-profit orgs have been co-opted/subsumed by the Left. The AMA, the ABA, AARP, the Red Cross; hell most of 'em including the NFL.

And since they can't get control of the NRA, they must destroy it. It's one of the last biguns that give conservatives a voice.

An interest group can wield lobbying power far above its weight, because of dispersed opposition. Take Big Sugar for example -- For over 75 years, that industry has been protected by tariffs and every time the subject comes up for renewal, the sugar lobbyists hit DC with lots of campaign contributions.

And so the American consumer, unorganized in opposition, pays billions more per year for domestic sugar. Last time I checked, world sugar prices were about 1/2 the US price.

Anybody on the MSM who has a IMDB page or is a member of the drama club or community theater is another.

Gee, I must be the last person in the world unable to see tweets. Or at least, embedded tweets. And tweet videos. And tweet pictures.

I can "sorta" see a tweet if someone posts an embedded tweet, and ll that appears to me is the tweeter's user name and date, and if I click on the date, I go to a page that shows the text of the tweet - but the text only. I cannot see any "media" like pix or videos or anything else. And it's a hasle to even see the text. For me, twitter is some obscure, hard-to-access form of mystery-communication that I strive to ignore. I can only hope that it will go out of business or become untrendy soon. Don't understand why it's so popular if it's so hard to view. I assume it's because my computer is so old (from 200. Ridiculous that a 10-year-old product is so obsolete that it can't be used for basic tasks anymore.

You know I remember clearly when Google wasn't All That. I used their usenet search before the websearch became the go-to. Before them was a host of both human-researched and bot-researched search engines.

They did a lot of product placement in movies in the 90s. Or else they got free mention.

There's nothing preventing a startup coming up with alternative search engine and associated content. Just capital and desire.

But a brand seems to get traction and everyone seems to have to use that brand (Twitter vs. Gab or Walmart vs. Kmart) usually there's good reason to use one above the other. Google was fast, gave good search results, etc., vs AltaVista et al.

I say all this to get to my point. YouTube, the Google owned video site needs to be superceded because it's using its popularity (was going to say monopoly, but it really isn't a monopoly, is it?) as the go-to video site to push certain points of view, to de-monitize conservatives and others, etc.

Besides that, YouTube doesn't pay shit when you think about it. Roughly $1 per $1,000 views of an ad on the front of your video.

Why couldn't someone create a YouTube-like site with considerably better pay rates and thus entice a whole shitload of content creators to switch platforms or to double and that's not to mention the creators who have been demonitized? Of course the hard part is getting people to pay attention, to get eyeballs. And getting venture capital, and creating the software, and infrastructure, etc.

But I posit, it's doable.

That's the other part.

It's one thing if you're talking about steel or oil. We can debate the economic impact of that monopoly and not having a competitive market.

But there's basically a handful of platforms that control almost all communication (and thus politics) and it clearly has an agenda and wants to change the culture.

Somehow I think capitalism will survive if Google, Facebook, or Amazon is broken up. I'm not sure our Republic though will last if these companies control our culture.

A smart startup company could reach out to Sargons and Rubins directly and make them aware they are a platform that will never shut up their speech and compensate them properly. Just the word of mouth alone from those guys about the movie would be great advertising.

Oops zombie, if you want a link on how to fix you not seeing embed vids or pics from twitter let me know.

if you use Firefox and Xp then Html and some other stuff doesn't work right.

There's a way around that by adding some software and changing some about:config settings.

I will post a link if you want.

No need to bother posting any of that info -- it won't help me. I use a Mac, with a very old version of the MacOS, which I can't update because it is the last version enabling me to use old/better versions of key software applications. So I'm happily stuck using an old OS. But the problem is that this old OS can only handle an older version of all the browsers -- and those version are so old that none of them can handle whatever code they now use in Twitter. I've already looked into it and been informed that there is no solution for me, other than to upgrade my OS -- which I'm not going to do.

For those with general mechanical aptitude, it's really straightforward to assemble an AR lower. Buying the receiver is still like purchasing a gun - it's the part with the serial number - but quality parts kits are fairly inexpensive, and you become familiar with how things work inside. Online videos showing the assembly process abound.

305 We seem to be in the middle of a leftist coup against consumers. First it was Enterprise car rental then all of them followed so that consumers have no choice. Now it's Delta airlines which will soon be followed by all the other airlines.

Posted by: Decaf at February 26, 2018 05:49 PM (/3+Sg)

306 In the polling for the 2016 election, (I know the polling was wrong but I also know how it was wrong by making bad assumptions about just who would show up and vote,) the group that had the highest educational level, grad degrees, were heavily behind Hillary.

For decades the left has been "nudging" students to the left and selecting faculty and grad students by political ideology. This doesn't have to be done 100% when those not doing so are selecting based on non-political criteria. Like the slight edge the house has at a casino in the end they will win and you will lose.

This taint of the grad students means that more and more those that run all organizations are more and more comfortable on the left. Add in the 8 years of Obama crony-capitalism and of course the "leadership" in the corporate world will think this is a virtue to signal, signal hard.

The long term solution is to retake the educational system. The other thing that must be done is to break the financial networks that make it possible for all these people to not fear for their position since there is always a cushy place to fall to.

I have that exact same problem! My solution: Never connect the iPhone to a computer. Sure, I can't get any mp3s onto the iPhone, but c'est la vie. Aside from that, I generally never have any reason to connect the phone to the computer anyway.

313 Only if you're gaming. Not sure about the others, but I think ATC would do that, so she'd need at least a 1050Ti or something like that (spend the extra $30 for 4Gigs of RAM).

That's still over $200. Frankly most people don't need a 1080Ti or something like that, for which prices are batshit insane right now. I wish I could have bought 10 1070Ti's when they came out and sold them today, though.

But someone who literally just internets, some i3 or i5 with integrated graphics would be *fine*, at least for a few years.

317 The net is so huge now that it's getting harder and harder to find the obscure stuff.

I worked in the search business when there was still a debate as to whether spiders (computers doing link crawls at night) or hand-curated lists of links were better.

Google blew everything away. I hit their beta search site in December 1998 and knew it was just leagues better than anything the rest of us were doing. The other search companies either went out of business or changed our business model to being portals. We were outsourcing our search with a couple of years because it didn't matter anymore.

I got into gmail beta, which is why my sons and I have actual real name gmail addresses, and it's held all of my memories for free since 2004.

I loved google. I named it Brad. I'm sorry to see how they've turned to shit.

https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/37761/tenfourfox

TenFourFox (be aware there's also hardware by this name) is a Firefox browser fork that still works on G4 and G5 powermacs.

I just upgraded a bunch of G4 mac minis with SSDs for a small newspaper that still used OS9 apps, for which you still need OSX 10.4. Sounds like your situation.

You can actually replace all those apps and move forward, but it's sometimes a lot of work.

The fastest pre-intel machines are the dual processor G5 Powermacs, which are the last machines that can run OS9 apps. I have a water-cooled G5 Powermac.

328 Today, I worked out a strategy for dealing with AMEX. I've been a 'member' for 40 years, but that's about to change, kind of.

My 'membership' is an annual fee membership, of which I have wearied anyhow, so, time to do something.

Today I applied for a 'No Fee' everyday card. Now, why would I do that? Easy...they're going to be processing statements and mailing for a card that I will never use.

Second, I will keep the current for-fee card until the end of the annual billing cycle, and cancel the account at that time, with a letter for my reason, i.e., the NRA flap.

Why not cancel now? See the 3rd paragraph. Actually, I am contemplating sending a letter, now, instructing them to close the account at the end of the membership period, and stating the reason. That's probably the more active step to take.

Not everything happens overnight.

Powermac G5's are big and heavy, but if you shop around you can get a working one for $100. 8 Gigs of RAM is cheap for them. You can still run OSX 10.4 and thus OS 9 apps.

iMac G5's are smaller and lighter and not quite as fast.

I don't know exactly what you have but it sounds like a Mini, they were cheap and popular but the G4 ones only held 1 Gb of RAM, and are hard for end users to upgrade.
